- The Bloodhound LSR car nearly reached the 500mph milestone today, hitting 491mph (790km/h).
It was the sixth run down the desert for the car, which is being pushed faster each time by driver and current World Land Speed Record owner Andy Green.
The team is gathering vital data from each run to prepare the car for its World Land Speed Record attempt next year, when it hopes to break the current record of 763mph.
Andy said: “The aim of today was to measure the slowdown, from 500 down to 200, to measure the aerodynamic drag. We've got all that data, and now it’s time to crunch the numbers."

I didn't expect that much play on the steering wheel, especially at that speed.
at 500mph a fraction of a second is 200 meters off line...big input for small movement at these speeds.
If you watch the Thrust SSC video on the Bloodhound channel, it's explained in detail.
Love the footage of the dug in camera! Brilliant! Go, Bloodhound, go! :)
That was very cool! Watch that clip in slo-mo and you can really see the rear deltas getting hammered by the front wheel wake.
@@MX304 Like a shot blast laser! No doubt they're working on it.
Was thinking, imagine having a piss on the side of a road and that went past haha
1:33 The dug in camera did not let you down, the car made the exactly the same sound that you would hear if you asked a 5 year old kid what a jet powered car would sound like at 500 MPH. In fact I already know what it is going to look like at 1000 MPH, I just played the video back a 2X speed! :-)
Ha ha, just did that myself and looks twice as awesome! 👍👍
Awesome sound isn't it?!
About to do just that.👌
That was even better at a 2x speed. Not often you get to say that on here
Just need to add the rocket then ... that's got to bring chaos to the airstream
Blimey, that's nearly as fast as my ex wife used to drive chasing her next boyfriend.
Tricky Dicky 😂
Thank you guys for your most informative feedback, its been fantastic!! I'm a member of the Royal Air Force Officers Club, Johannesburg. Many of our members have been keenly following your brilliant footage - it's been great. V best of luck with the next runs, especially look forward to Bloodhound breaking the sound barrier!
That dug-in camera is awesome! Really shows the speed.
Even more so once they start doing supersonic runs
This is absolutely magical! I have been an avid fan of these speed records ever since I had the top-trumps version back in the 80's. It gives me goosebumps every time I see a run. I'll be supporting you all the way!
Mapantz1 Couldn't agree more!
Been following this from the beginning. A very young Dr Ben Evans (computer fluid dynamics guru at Swansea Uni) gave a guest lecture in our department in 2010. Almost a whole decade on I am just so very happy that this incredible project is finally on its way. Go for it!
Nice to see Andy wearing his poppy!
GO TEAM GB!!
"i've had a word with Andy about that" ...you're a very naughty boy! ...amazing additional camera angle, thanks for the update, wait patiently now everyday for more news...
No American pilots?
@@felinebline7154 There is just one driver and he is British; Andy 'Dead Dog' Green.
blog.maseratiraleigh.com/supersonic-story-dead-dog-andy-green/
@@felinebline7154 Why would there be? This is a 100% British team. The LSR has always been very national in its competition.
@@felinebline7154 those american pilots can't fit into the cockpit
Matt Hatter Andy is quite a tall chap, so there are probably quite a few Americans that would fit. When Craig Breedlove first met Andy at Black Rock he said something about him being a big guy and Andy replied "That's alright, we've got a big car" referring to Thrust SSC.
top work guys, following with interest, you're gonna smash it . 1000mph here we come:)
Fantastic shot from the ground-level camera! Love it! Onwards and upwards, Team Bloodhound !!
Hey you hit trending! Good job, this kinda stuff deserves to be on there.
I've been watching you guys since the beginning years ago Good luck Godspeed You're looking cracking. From New Mexico USA
So happy to see this project back up and running again. Road to 1000mph starts once again!!
Brilliant camera angles and sounds on this new run! All the best for the next one!
Love that additional camera! Seeing the car go by was amazing--can tell there is major speed going on compared to previous videos. Thanks for showing footage from that aspect. Not even mentioned is that this kind of speed for just testing is higher than only a couple people in the world have ever gone. Also like the camera in the cockpit. While everything is being taken into consideration for Andy's safety, it's obvious they any mishap at these speeds and future higher speeds will result in disaster. Thanks for making sure the highest priority is his safety every inch of the way
Keep calm & carry on bringing it home 👍🇬🇧🏆. Good luck guys. Great work.
I love watching the videos you post. Go Bloodhound and i hope you achieve your goal. Best of luck and keep them coming.
This is the ultimate rush. Incredible. Bring it on !
I read a while back that this project had fallen apart due to lack of funding or something like that. Good to see that its still active and improving, amazing work.
Many congratulations on progress so far. Looking forward to future updates.
So pleased to be watching this project come to fruition.
Fantastic work and video's, thank you!!
Im here for it all !
Videos keep getting better and better.
I’m enjoying your daily updates. I grew up in the days of Craig Breedlove and Art Arfons and this project is enthralling. Thanks!
Great to see the car running and real progress being made! Keep up the hard work team.
Great camera shot. It's asking a lot but several of them dotted down the track would show us speed growth plus deceleration with a chute flapping about. That was by far the best footage you have captured so far.
Awesome good luck with future runs!
This is awesome guys...Keep up the great work!!
Wow incredible shots particularly the dug in camera. I remember Thrust SSC and a fabulous two part documentary that covered Thrust when Richard Noble drove and Thrust SSC with Andy Green driving. Richard Noble's book "Thrust" is a terrific read.
Nice to see lots of footage of the car at speed. This is a well-balanced video; speed and explanation. And it was a good idea of another commenter to run it at twice normal speed to see what a 1000mph run will look like.
glad to see the project moving forward
Superb! Love the footage from the dug in cam. I’ve got used to F1 cars going past fixed cams. Bloodhound LSR is next level. Volume has to be set to 11. Keep up the brilliant British engineering chaps.
Nigel Harris the rocket engine is Norwegian engineering.
@@user-ky6vw5up9m Yes, Nammo are producing the hybrid rocket engine. That's not on the car right now. It's all on the RR jet at the moment.
Nigel Harris and of course good engineering includes good procurement . let’s see what happens. Regards
Brilliant camera footage guys, shocked how massive the steering inputs are to keep the beast straight....... best of British 🇬🇧
This is amazing! Super exciting to see
Getting very exciting. Looking forward to the next episode
Amazing. Again looks so stable.
That camera angle of him cruising by was awesome!!
Good luck for the record guys! You can do it and everyone's rooting for you here in the UK. Go bloodhound! Go bloodhound!
"i've had a word with Andy about that"
Yeah wtf Andy get your shit together.. 500 he said, not 491, 495 or 499, 500 damnit!
His spoon was causing too much drag.
Maybe a redesign of the wheel delta area? That could ruin a proper timed run next year otherwise. I'm sure you guys have long since had that planned of course. Really enjoying these updates so thanks everyone.
Simply Epic. Keep going guys!
True speed demons and pioneers breaking into new frontiers for mankind. Enjoy watching you guys pushing the limits of machinery. Bloodhound SSC will be an absolute marvel when it is finally ready. God be with you all through this incredible journey.
The locals say" WTF, the jets are getting lower". British know-how is still as good as ever. Go for it Guys.
Sand Cam gives a fantastic view.
That low angle shot is NUTS!!! Very cool!
Supporter Phil Austin here in Portugal. Great video and update. That's a lot of debris being thrown up. It's no wonder there's some damage being caused. It must be like driving through a sand blaster.
Fab video, best yet IMO. Very informative.
When human beings are at their best 🥰 this is awesome!!
This is superb. Brilliant footage both from the drone on launch and from the buried action camera. Magnificent. They both give a brilliant sense of the power and speed of Bloodhound.
A bit alarming to see Andy have to take his eyes off the course by such a margin at one point during the on-board footage but I am guessing that it was after engine throttle back so the action was a little less frenetic at that point?
I have to thank everyone for putting out this series of remarkable and thoroughly enjoyable videos. Please keep it up.👍👍
Finaly, some fantastic camera footage, you can really see how fast the car is at 500mph,loved it!
Really pleased to see the progress being made out in SA at the moment...following updates regularly. I've long said that this should have been backed by the government and receiving public funding from way back - showcasing the UK's engineering and technical prowess, inspiring future generations, there is so much to be gained from groundbreaking projects such as this.
Boris Johnson's failed Garden Bridge ate up £53m, £43m of which was from public funds. I would far rather have seen that £43m diverted to Bloodhound - imagine where we'd be with it now? And at least we'd have something to show for the money...
Thank you and good luck to all at Bloodhound LSR for continued progress in these tests...onwards and upwards to a successful record attempt next year. You're making us proud every day!
Your halfway there!
I can't believe those bicycle wheels at the back held up.
Oh yeah, this was interesting af! so I subbed. Looking forward to seeing more! 👌🏼👍🏻
Smashing video!! The shot just before the run shows just how "Right" the car is for the job, in my opinion. Well done chaps!
Excellent video guys. The camera in the sand provided brilliant footage, as did the drone shot at the start. Keep it up!!
Congrats!
Absolutely loving this play by play testing guys. Dont have the technical ability to understand the daily issue’s you face but that sound is enough to make the hairs on your neck stand up.
Fantastic keep the videos going
The camera angle on the floor is just awesome!!
Great news to hear this beast is charging as she should!! Great job by the team!
Excellent video guys!
Heck of a joy ride. With that equipment, amazing to reach the speed of 500mph
Great to see it finally pushing towards its goal.
Koenigsegg: does 295 mph
.
Buggatti : Hold my beer; goes 304 mph
Bloodhound

Hold my Nitro Methane; strolls at 500mph.
Incredible work
Great footage with the camera 🇬🇧🇬🇧
Well done guys! Keep it up! 👍
Good luck to the whole team! Fantastic technological achievement!
Finally a manager/leader to get things done! If he fails to reach 500 again, he gets a written warning. And it WILL go in his permanent record.
that is just an amazing sound
Getting close to sound barrier time!! Well done.
You had one job Andy, one job 😝
But seriously, the steering inputs at those speeds are terrifying!
Congrats on the 500 mph well done top team awesome 🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧
The best video yet! Awesome shots! What a noise at 1:38 YESSS!
Well done. New LSR looks achievable in 2020, but it's somewhat terrifying to think that the "maximum design speed" of 1000mph is more than twice what we're seeing here!!!
That on track camera view was awesome!!!👍
Calm, understated and utterly professional. All part of growing up and being British.
Cyclemike plenty of Brits are the opposite of those qualities.
Ian McGreevy. Sad but true. Thankfully there are still lots of inspirational ones around.
Cyclemike well said
Well done to the Bloodhound LSR team. Proud moment for collaboration between England and South Africa on such an amazing feat. Goes to show that despite the Webb Ellis trophy belonging to South Africa for the next 4 years at least, it is still possible for the two countries to come together to do something truly mind blowing.
Amazing project!
That camera fly by was amazing, the speed is unreal and that is less than half the speed it’s aiming for!! Incredible.
Fantastic shot from the sand cam well done again guys fantastic run.👍🇬🇧🍺🤘
Go Boys Go!. Nice work.
The shot from that dug in camera is epic👍👍👍
Really good run and camera did a good job! You are at a place where it appears you have a lot of track space this is a real plus and it appears to be quite flat, Good Luck!!
Very best of luck to all the team!! Donald Campbell would be proud of you!!
Nothing important ever happens without a Honda generator! Great video, great progress!
Fantastic!! When you do supersonic runs please please do that excellent camera angle!! was AWSUM!
And please add a few more cameras, facing in both directions.
I would never be late for work if I had that car ☺️.....Fabulous piece of engineering keep breaking records guys 👍
1:33 Very cool shot!
Outland I thought so too but then put playback at x2! Will be amazing when they go flat out
Sure was!!
I lived to see the sound barrier broken. Apparently I was the only guy that responded the way I did. This time I'll try not to go quite as nuts. We create our own luck with diligence and hard work, From what I see that makes all of you incredibly lucky.
Bloody brilliant.
The dug-in camera footage made me think of the Roadrunner cartoon.
Beep Beep !!!
Got to love that sound as it blew past the camera.
Godspeed my good fellows.
0530 Blighty. Yet again rushing in from work to see the latest news/updates, already feeling the emotion....1k won't be long now I'll hazard. Best wishes
Incredible
790kmh = 491mph
