    Thanks I-Wei Huang! I was looking for a new stylus and have other Wacom products so this was a natural choice, but your mod has turned a good stylus into the best stylus out there. It was really fiddly to get the plastic in the tip before it set, but after 10 tries I got there and I'm very happy. Great art and great mod, thanks for posting mate.

    @Nashoki I just tried my friend's jot touch4. It has different pressure curves than wacom, so you have to push harder. And I also noticed that when you barely touch the glass, that it will make full pressure dots or short strokes. When you draw with your finger it makes full pressure lines, which is what I think it's doing when the pen is touching the screen but no pressure is applied. I tried it for just a few minutes and that strange behavior drove me nuts. One out of ten lines would end in a big blob. It's a deal breaker for me, hopefully it's just an app issue that can be fixed in the future.

      I thought about doing this for a long time, and I finally ordered the tips from Hex3. Haven't done the full mod yet, but even just poking the teflon tip through the rubber nib without trimming it or doing any stability tricks was a large and instant improvement in pen control and sensitivity. I use an ipad4 and yet still had the same low pressure issues that you mention you had with the iPad air. This has given the pen a second, and much improve life. Thanks !

    It's pretty new, but I was wondering if you plan to try out the Wacom Intuos Creative Stylus 2, and, if so, would you make a review on it as well? It's supposed to be a big upgrade and maybe they've fixed the problems the first one has had with the iPad Air and Mini (also has the a small tip). Your reviews and mods are EXTREMELY helpful for potential buyers like me who are skeptical and can't afford to try out many different kinds of digital art tools. You show exactly what needs to be seen to help make a decision, not to mention your artwork is amazing! Thanks so much for doing these kinds of reviews!

    • @crabfu
      @crabfu  10 років тому +1

      theNameisLife Thanks! I'm very curious about the creative stylus 2 as well! I wish Wacom sponsored me to do reviews, but they don't, so I'll have to consider if it's worth buying. I've tried a few fine tip stylus, and none of them are accurate enough, I'd much prefer the bigger tip that is accurate, then a fine tip that isn't. So I am skeptical, I hope that wacom figured it out better than others.

    • @theNameisLife
      @theNameisLife 10 років тому

      I-Wei Huang Thanks for the response! Looks as if you were right to be skeptical about it. Not to bombard you with questions, but do you prefer the set up you have with the iPad Air to the Galaxy Note 10 for the sketching ability alone now that you have a better stylus? It just seems like the Galaxy Note tablet is more of a package deal (besides the art apps) with the Wacom built into it and all. Even though I do favor Apple tech, I'm just kinda at that point in life where I kinda just question every choice I've ever made. Thanks again, you've been a great help!

    • @crabfu
      @crabfu  10 років тому

      I use this ipad air, and occasionally use it to draw with the wacom creative stylus, because I like the ios and hardware better. But I also have other drawing tablets for more serious art on, so this combination works for me. But, if you want a cheap drawing tablet alone, I think Note would be better, it's more accurate, and even with less pressure sensitivity, it's better to draw with than the wacom/ipad. Hope that helps.

    Thanks for the video - great mods and solutions. Just recently got an ipad mini retina and I was considering this pen. One question, are you also using a screen protector like a Zagg cover? I'm considering getting a screen protector but if it inhibits performance then maybe I'll just skip it.

    Thanks for the great tip man! I have a few questions.
    1. Have you tried this in comparison with the creative stylus 2? what is your verdict? Modded Stylus 1 or Stylus 2? If so how do they compare in terms of pressure sensitivity?
    2. Do you experience a cursor offset when holding the pen in a certain angle as with this video?

    Thank you. Great review and tips (so to speak). I've been debating whether to get the Surface Pro 3, - I also work in 3D, but I still have a (loud, old) desktop PC for that.... The Samsung tablets have gotten almost as pricey as the iPad, and my short tests with them haven't convinced me. I only just learned about the Wacom iPad Stylus, so I have to rethink how I want to work. You're saying that the Wacom Ipad stylus is better than options like the Samsung? Have you tried the Surface Pro 3? I'm curious about your workflow.

    you're very creative with the glove. Would you recommend using a drawing tab instead of an iPad due to the whole "palm rejection" issue?

    • @crabfu
      @crabfu  8 років тому +2

      No, I like drawing on the screen, I have a hard time drawing with wacom (not cintiq) tablets. I could paint, but never got used to drawing like that, but that's just me. I now have the iPad Pro and Apple Pencil, which works like a charm. You can set it to not draw with fingers and only with the pencil, so no need for palm rejection by covering up the palm.

    Apologies for asking so many questions but I've read around that some people have problems with scratches from the teflon tips, have you encountered any? If not, do you mind if i ask what your usual habit before drawing on your ipad is? (i'm guessing you clean everything down before drawing to get rid of dirt and grime to avoid it scratching your screen)
    How often do you replace your tip?

    • @crabfu
      @crabfu  10 років тому

      I don't have any scratches, haven't changed the tip, and I don't clean the screen before drawing usually. However, I do maintain it clean in the smart cover, I just can't stand a dirty screen as a tablet, even when not drawing. I would think that the chances of scratching the screen is higher with the rubber tip than the Teflon, it's trapped dirt than has the potential to scratch, not the tip themselves. Of course use any stylus at your own risk.

    +I-Wei Huang Hello, sorry if this'll be a little bit dumb but I just wanted to ask an artist about it. I have an iPad Air and I'm actually looking forward to get a stylus for it because i want to become a digital artist, and so far, the more video i watch, the harder it becomes to chose. So far, theres 2 specific stylus I'm curious about 1.: Jot Touch 4, 2.: Wacom Intuos Creative Stylus 2. As far as I know, the pixelpoint styluses, are not so good because if you draw in a different angle the drawing area will move a bit away, (like a few mms, and it wouldn't be so good if someone wants to be accurate). For the Jot Touch 4, well, because there's only a few video available on the internet about it, I don't know that much, but ppl, claim that the precision disk makes everything easyer, but i heard that the pressure sensitivity is not that good with it. So i just wanted to ask your oppinion about it, and which stylus do you recommend? Thanks in advance for your answare :D

    • @crabfu
      @crabfu  8 років тому

      +Screave I tried Creative stylus 2, and didn't like it. Lines were too wiggly, not accurate. I had an older jot touch, and it's ok, but yeah the pressure isn't great. So in short, I haven't tried everything out there, but Creative Stylus 1 seemed to work best for me, but you'll have to live with a thick nib, or do the mod in the video. I don't know of any solution that gets you fine point and pressure that works great. iPad Pro with Pencil is a much better choice ( I did a review video of that) but of course you can't just get the apple pencil to work with any ipad, it needs to be the ipad pro because of the digitizer hardware built in.

    • @Screave
      @Screave 8 років тому

      +I-Wei Huang for the jot touch, what do you mean in "isn't great"? Since I'm just about to get my very first stylust i dont want to regret my purchase, and I want to get the best response with the least modification, if possible. I'm actually checking out an other stylus, the Bamboo Fineline 2, so i don't know, maybe this thing still needs to wait a bit more

      @crabfu  10 років тому +2

      I like wacom better than the old jot touch. I have not tried new jot touch with pixelpoint, but have tried jot script with pixelpoint. I found pixelpoint to be way too wiggly and not accurate enough for me, so prefers wacom, even with much bigger nib. Hopefully pixelpoint can be improved via software updates, but it just isn't useful for me right now.

    • @crabfu
      @crabfu  10 років тому

      I only have the original Note 10.1 to compare it to, but I think s-pen is more accurate, since it's hardware designed for fine tip. The pressure levels feels better on the wacom creative stylus though, but that's subjective. Overall, I prefer this wacom/ipad, but it's mostly because of the tablet and os. If you are looking for a better drawing experience, I'm not sure if you'll find it with this vs note 10.1.

    is it mean that jot touch 4 may be better than intuos stylus?

    • @crabfu
      @crabfu  10 років тому

      No I just tried my friend's jot touch 4, and it's got strange pressure issues with procreate. On low levels it sometimes make full pressure marks, so you end up with big blobs at the end of your lines in 1/10 times for me. Hopefully it can be fixed via app update, but currently it's no where near the feel of the wacom for me. It also feels like you need to press very hard to get levels, so the pressure curve seems off.

  • @chenalvision
    @chenalvision 10 років тому +1

    Hi, thanks for sharing this mod. I may have to do it unless Apple or Wacom releases a fix soon.
    Any idea how this mod is able to fix the problem?

    • @crabfu
      @crabfu  10 років тому +1

      I don't fully understand the cause, something to do with everything being thinner on the air/retina mini. You can see the link above to my blog, where there is a link to Wacom's European forums talking about the problem. One solution that Wacom mentioned, is to have the rubber nib even softer, so that at the low level pressures, that it will registers as a stroke. But you can't get a softer nib because they don't make one (they only make a firmer nib), and it would be too fragile to have a thinner rubber tip anyway I think. The teflon tip has no give, so that you don't have to push down at all to register as a stroke, therefore fixing the problem of the light pressure. It also has a second benefit of being able to see through, so although it's not as good as a real fine tip digitizer stylus, it's better than a big thick nib.

    • @chenalvision
      @chenalvision 10 років тому

      Thanks for your answer, so the iPad senses the tip of the stylus while the stylus sends pressure data simultaneously to the app. So with the Intuos Creative Stylus, the newer iPads can't sense the tip at lighter touch for some reason and when it does the pressure level is already midway through the 2048 levels. Is that correct?
      I've ordered a pair of the teflon tips you suggested, I'm gonna try my Styrofoam gel I have at hand, hope it works. I feel uneasy with sticky stuff in the hole XD Does your first method do that? Or does the shapelock stay in the rubber tip?
      Also I see in your other video you used SBP on Samsung devices, do you recommend it on iPad? Hope to see your review Paper by 53 as well. Cheers.

    • @crabfu
      @crabfu  10 років тому

      I think that you are mostly right.... but it's not that you won't get 1/2 or the pressure curve, it's more like you're not getting the bottom 5% levels. You probably won't notice unless you have a really light hand like me. And even with the problem, it's still feels like an amazing stylus, because you're only loosing that very low end, the rest feels great. But if you rely on really light hand lines like me, it makes a pretty big difference.
      I do use Sketchbook Pro quite a bit, in fact it is my favorite program on the PC. if you look at my other videos, there is a baby sketch done using ipad air/this stylus with stock nibs and sketchbook pro. However, there is a slight lag with this stylus and sketchbook, hopefully could be improved in app updates. I was able to do that sketch even with the lag and without being able to use low end levels effectively, it just didn't feel as easy as I'd preferred. Procreate, however, has no lag and works great, and has everything that I need for basic sketching. I did try Paper 53 and some other wacom supported apps as well, but was not as impressed as I was with Procreate.
      And also, you don't need to shapelock to use the teflon tip. Just poke through your nib, and it will stay in the stylus loosely. I just use shapelock to make it a snug fit, but is not needed to use the tip. I'm not sure that I'd use styrofoam gel on the tip. I don't know what that stuff is, but gel means that it will stay gooey and does not sound like a good idea to hold a small piece of metal in place.

      I-Wei Huang I did the mod yesterday and just want to share some info you may or may not already know.
      The mod worked for me, without the Shapelock like you said, I might want to find something to stuff inside the nib as it does feel a bit loose.
      I was a bit disappointed at first, because I still couldn't get a consistent line with the lightest strokes, sometimes it works like magic, but the next minute no input again.
      Then I found out that I get better results when I hold my iPad with my other hand, than when I lay it flat on a surface. I thought it may have something to do with the accelerometer but after some Googling, turns out with the other hand holding, or even just touching the iPad, dramatically improves the conductivity, according to this website (www.beststylus.com/).
      So for those people having similar issues, you may want to try holding your iPad while sketching...

      ankur rai I tried 2, and it wasn't accurate enough.... lines would end up wiggly and hard to get any detail. I'm not sure if apps have improved it since they first came out, but I returned mine because the original one worked much better.

    Question. How does this not scratch the screen? is it a felt tip or.....?

    • @crabfu
      @crabfu  10 років тому +1

      ZeeGauntlet It is Teflon tip, not soft like felt. It is a super hard material, but smooth and glides on the surface. In theory, unless you have particles stuck between the stylus and glass, it shouldn't scratch the screen - this goes for all stylus (rubber, foam, or fine tip stylus), you need to keep the screen extremely clean.

    Will a screen protector cause the pen to loose sensitivity?

    • @crabfu
      @crabfu  10 років тому

      I don't use screen protectors, but others have said that it works ok. You won't loose sensitivity, that's on the pen and not the screen, but it will be a bit more draggy.

    Hey, you said that it works really fine with the Ipad 4, right? but the ipad 4 have the same retina display that the ipad air does, or am i wrong?
    Well, it worked? i have a ipad 4 and i'm really looking foward to buy one of these! :)

    • @crabfu
      @crabfu  10 років тому +1

      The newer air and mini retina are very thin and hardware changed. If you follow the link above, you can see in more detail, and see official wacom response. However, most people probably won't notice or care, the sensitivity issue is only on the very low end, so you'll only noticed if you have a very light hand.

    Which is your appreciation of the Wacom cretive styles vs the adonis jot pro? (i am curios because jot pro uses disc as a default).

    • @crabfu
      @crabfu  10 років тому

      I like the wacom better, even with the default thick nib, because the pressure levels feels smoother. With the Teflon tip mod, it's better then the jot rubber disc.

      @maxfxgr 10 років тому

      I-Wei Huang Cheers for the video mate. Are we talkin about the Jot touch 4? Or the older Jot touch? I just ordered Jot touch 4 and everyone is praising its accuracy + pressure levels? I am screwed? :D

    • @crabfu
      @crabfu  10 років тому

      I've used the original jot touch and I also tried my friend's jot touch 4 months ago, which had pressure issues, where it would do full pressure by mistake sometimes. But that seems like it could be fixed by app updates, so I'm not sure if it's better now.

      Thank you mate, your insight was as helpful . I will test it out myself i guess once it arrives. I asked a coleague who is using it and they have released a new SDK 2months ago solving some 'pressure-lag' as he mentions. Well i ll have to see for myself. Anyhow, keep up the good work with your videos !!!

    • @crabfu

      I am not a fan of the pixelpoint tech, the lines get wiggly, especially slow diagonal lines. Fine point isn't useful when accuracy is poor, I much rather have a thick but accurate nib.

      I like Wacom Creative Stylus much better than Jot pro. As far as ipads, that's up to you on size. You might want to consider Galaxy Note (comes in 8",10",12"), if you can go wtih Android, it has a digitizer so the stylus is more accurate.

    • @crabfu
      @crabfu  10 років тому

      Cintiq 13 is not portable computer, so Cintiq Companion is a better comparison. I've done a review on the Companion, it is by far the best art tablet that I've tried. However, it is not as small and portable as ipad/wacom

    • @martin32694
      @martin32694 10 років тому

      It's too pricy for me( a student), i only have 1500usd budget and i do feel fine only drawing on desk with my mac. So is it better to get citiq 13?

    • @crabfu
      @crabfu  10 років тому

      yes, I think if you are looking to just do art, don't need it to be portable, and have a computer capable of running art programs already, then the cintiq is the best option in my book. You'll have much more programs that you can use for the mac, like sketchbook, painter, photoshop etc. They are much more flexible and powerful than the apps on the ipad. The cintiq is much more accurate and the pressure levels feel great. They are just expensive, and except for the companion they are not portable and requires a computer.
