It’s funny, he criticizes the look of the Lucid but it’s absolutely stunning in person. A real head turner. Meanwhile, the Model S is a $73k car that has all the presence of a Camry.
I have my Lucid air for just over 7 months now believe me it’s an brilliant car the amount of attention I get with this car is unbelievable😅
Also some clarifying points: The Pure starts at $69,990 now adays. Pure luxe which is mentioned in the video is an upcharge if you would rather have vegan leather than regular leather which is standard. Pure Luxe changes all the materials inside. This is their entry level trim with the smallest battery and lowest performance numbers. All other trims come with a better sound system and massaging seats. They have cars that compete with the Model S Plaid and one car that beats the plaid in a drag race. Styling looks much better with the stealth package which blacks out all the trim pieces (all the silver pieces). The worst thing about the car is the software but everything else has been a major step up compared to my Plaid. Handling is night and day with the Plaid. Stability and road plantedness is night and day. Materials are a huge jump up. Performance (outside of a straight line) is much better. Interior space is much better. Range is much better. I guess I will give charging to my Plaid. I can go on but the Plaid and this car (in the right trim) are night and day differences with the Plaid really only having a few advantages. Thats coming from someone who has owned both.
We have a 2021 Model S Plaid (replaced our 2015 P90D) and a 2022 Lucid Air Dream Edition Performance. Absolutely agree. The Air trounces the Plaid in almost every respect. Even though the Plaid can deliver a quicker straight-line launch, the way Its front end goes loose while the Air stays planted erases the difference for all practical (and safety) purposes. The Air had infuriating software gremlins until the introduction of UX 2.0 in October 2022, but the steady stream of updates has resolved almost all the issues. At this point, I actually prefer the total control suite (the mix of tactile, manual controls and screen-based controls) of the Air to the Plaid. Also, by 10,000 miles our Plaid had developed squeaks and groans in the rear quarters. With almost 30,000 miles on the Air now, it remains rock solid.
We won't be buying another Tesla. When the Gravity Dream Edition orders open up, we're going to be at the head of the line to get one to replace our 2018 Honda Odyssey.

I assume you are talking about the Sapphire which competes with the Plaid on a performance basis only. The Lucid Air Sapphire costs $249,000, compared to $81.5K for the Plaid. You could get 3 Plaids for the price of one Sapphire!
@@michaelkim3432 Yes, I was referencing the Sapphire but you are still a little off here. You mention performance but you don't get a performance vehicle with the plaid, you get a straight line bullet but nothing else about the car is about performance. Shit to even make it track feasible, you would want to buy the 20k track pack. On the surface, it handles much worse, its brakes are much worse and overheat easily, it has worse range (less times around the track), is much less stable at high speeds. All those performance advantage still hold true in even the mid tiers of the Lucid. Not to mention all the non-performance related advantages of the Lucid. Not to mention, you are wrong about the starting price of the Plaid. The starting price is $88k. Add the track pack and now you are at $110k. Lucids top trim (minus the sapphire) is around that price. I am a Tesla fan through and through. I had a MYLR then a MYP then the MSP and now the Lucid. I looooooooove the software on the cars and truly believe that they have built an EV that is the most mainstream ready EV out. However, for people who care about performance EVs, the Plaid is extremely overrated because it can accelerate as quickly as it can. If performance was only based on straight line acceleration then I would agree with you wholeheartedly. But once you take in all the factors, the Plaid is really not a performance vehicle.
I might be in the minority but I really like the look of the Air. It just needs a few tweaks and I suspect that as Casa Grande builds more cars that build quality will improve.

As someone who owns both a model S plaid and an air GT I can say the overall driving dynamics and range is better in the lucid however, the speed and software is significantly better in the Tesla. Both are a great options.

I know you’re mainly a Tesla UA-camr and I like your humor so I’m giving you a pass but you missed a lot. It looks like you just winged it and didn’t do much research on the Air. As a Tesla & Lucid owner I can say with absolute certainty that Lucid makes a way better built vehicle and their customer service is head and shoulders above Tesla’s.

I enjoyed this content quite a lot. I like how you referred to the door... Triggers? as being soemthing you didnt need to think about.
My biggest peeve with electric cars from all manufacturers - whether its Lexus or Mercedes or Tesla - is thatnyok spend a lot of time thinking and a lot less time actually *doing*. Lucid has done a lot of good preventing that.
Your criticisms were deserved and well-placed. Lucid has done a lot of growing over the last year and with their engineering-first philosophy I think they can do very well. Think, "classic Mercedes".

It has serious old man energy, tech wise its probably the best. Look at their channel where they explain the battery, motor and inverter. I think a cayman 718 "killer" from lucid would sell very well.
FYI regarding the wheel design. Those are aero covers and can be removed to expose the better looking design. But yeah, the aero covers make the wheels look drab

That was probably the camera shaking. We have an Air Dream Edition, and there is no steering wheel vibration. There is no way a reviewer would not have noticed and commented on a wheel shaking as much as those shots appeared to convey.

I like the Air but one thing it seems only Tesla has done is integrate and make pretty much invisible the charge port door for a nice clean exterior look. No one else (besides Rivian) seems to know how to do this.

The Lucid Air looks like the EV car that Buick wanted to be. Definitely has the old man vibes in the styling. Also, pricing has really hurt them. The cars (up until recent discounts) have been too expensive, yet they still manage to lose thousands on each vehicle sold. We'll see if they can actually get to scaling up production with the Gravity. Might need some more money from the Saudi's first tho.

The frunk in Pure is not automatic rather is manual with 92k price tag. Ridiculous!!
Actually the automatic frunk and soft close doors and some other features are part of a package that you can add to the Air, I just checked their website and it’s $77k for that one. This guys pricing info in the video is way off. $100k gets you the next trim up and fully loaded with massaging seats.

Yeah I just leased one a week ago, and our trim was way higher end than the one he tested (Touring trim, fully loaded with all options) and that had a $100k sticker price. So when he said the car he was testing was $100k, I knew he was phoning it in. Total misinformation.

Lucid should survive because they have billions invested from Saudi investors. The one that’s a goner is Fisker. Last I heard they were selling the Ocean model for half off retail price. 😢
Yeah, Lucid, Tesla, and Rivian will all be around for a while. There is a small possibility that one of them could get bought out by Apple or some other large company, but in terms of worrying if your car will continue to get updates and access to service, those are safe brands to consider when picking an EV.
Saw one of these on the road today for the first time, it just looks like an electric dodge charger at first glance. How do they expect to compete at those prices?

My 13 y/o son who is super into cars convinced me to get (we leased, much better deal) a Lucid after joining me in test drives of all the top luxury EVs. Main reason was how it looked.🤷♂️I think you just have to see it in person, they look so sleek and the animated lighting is a nice touch.
Gjee this car sure does look nice but without that bottomless Saudi money how long can they stay afloat? The cars seem to be built well and have very impressive range but risky prospects.

Tesla used to be as expensive when they 1st came out. Rivian is 🆕️ as well. They're 🆕️ auto makers, so they have to start high until manufacturing is recoupé.

Lucid has better looks than tesla
Every time I see Lucid Air on the road they remind me one of those Buick Roadmasters. I toyed with the idea of Air and even had a deposit in, tbut with the production delays we ended up getting Model 3. That was couple years ago and in retrospect I am glad that I did not beta test the Air.

I agree that the red is the least flattering color, although it does look a lot better in the stealth trim option. I’d say if you want an exciting color on an expensive luxury car, wrap it. That way you don’t instantly kill the resale value due to uncommon aesthetic taste.

I don't know, I may own a Model 3, but I'm interested in what everyone's doing in the EV space. I can't believe how far we've come in 15 years and sure, Tesla did push the frontier the furthest, but they wouldn't be under such pressure to deliver if there was no competition.
