Establishing a reputation for quality and superior driver experience is the goal. Once the factory is complete and operational, we will be able to judge the results. Tesla has never sold more than 30k Model S in a year. People like SUVs and Lucid's rolls out in '24.

No, "we" don't "have a real contender to Tesla". We have another company with an engineer in charge, with certain innovation in design, with useful long term experience, and with potential to do well. We have a contender to companies building about 40,000 units in 2024/24..... That'll be Porsche, Mercedes. If Lucid took half that number from Tesla even next year, it would only be 1% (Or less) of their total production. Tesla will be out of sight for some time.
I am 44 and wish I had studied engineering in university but instead I studied business , learned so much from you Peter fascinating tech. The future is exciting, have my order in for a pure .
All over car have 400V batterie, because it's a classic electrical motor voltage. From 400V to 900V, it's like going from 110VAC to 220VAC (around 1946 in France) What next ? 900VAC multi phase motor ? I did learn some cool Lucid specific tech towards the end (how they step up the voltage in their cell modules and the plastic injection molding for the structural battery pack that also allows for end cooling and cell bondage). At some point the folks at Munro would have torn this apart, so why not do it yourself and share the knowledge firsthand :)

Thanks for airing this video. As I have something to add here. Electrical issue: 18650 and 21700 share a like architecture in thermally and electrically. Both has a welded tab at the anode-tab junction and not the tab-case junction which opens up a fire hazard issue, should tab-case junction are bumped open circuited by extreme inertial shock, subsequently the release of an internal spark next to heated chemicals. The Panasonic solution? apply a preload on the tap-case junction by an elastomer, it helps passing preload stress from - anode-elastomer-tab-casing. On the other hand 46800 has replaced 1) welded tab and 2) preloaded elastomer by 3) annealed copper flaps and 4) preloaded bristle contacts. Pay attention to the flaps. The annealed anode flaps cannot hold its initial shape and will be deformed under constant inertial shocks, shocks coupled via the bristle contacts, one by one disconnected from the adjacent contact until the last contact left. The next inertial shock will finally bump the cell open circuited, to induce a spark next to heated chemicals. Thermal issue: 18650 and 21700 cells had to dissipate heat laterally because cylinder wall has a lower thermal resistance compare to cylinder base. Yet Lucid chose to pass heat through cylinder base. Lucid chose out of a common misunderstanding share by Tesla. Misunderstanding? True: (A) The thermal resistance in axial direction through metal is less than in an radial direction through laminations chemicals and insulation. False: (B) it is wise to chose cylinder base to pass heat in/out of the cell. Why false? (C) There is a air gap in between (anode roll) and (cylinder base). This gap is practically a thermal insulator. That affect Lucid’s pack architecture. (D) the air gap is bridged by a wafer of bristle contacts for 46800 cells, as stated in (C) above, annealed flaps and open circuit issues. Granted open circuit is non issue but the bristle contact is as good as air gap in thermal conduction. Can lead to overheated chemical and possible fire and explosion. Remedy for 46800 tab less architecture? Employ induction heated soldering to bridge the anode-case junction. Result : open circuit proof with excellent heat transfer axially. Remedy for 18650 and 22700? Slightly extend anode copper beyond the insulation, employ induction heated soldering to bridge the anode-case junction. Result : open circuit proof with excellent heat transfer, actually.
@@rsw7231 none of all above. I am a former intellectual property developer and a hardware product developer of RF circuits, system and antenna of communication equipment. I gain enough mechanical knowledge necessary to defend my RF design from being killed by the ornamental and mechanical team’s ignorances on electrical issues. I also learn their problem to offer them my mechanical proposal solutions, hoping to avoid one more display only model off the production line.

Wonderful information. Huge information dump. The cooling is a win. The molded modules are genius. The bus system is excellent. But what really blew me away was the drive unit cutaway. The differential is _Inside_ the rotor! I am speechless. Still trying to work out how many hollow shafts it has. Amazing next-level engineering. Peter, please give us more! Believe it or not, the QUANTITY of so called little batteries is why I will not buy an electric car. All it takes is for one little battery to malfunction for problems to start happening ranging from loss of performance at a minimum to thermal runaway worse case. If you do buy an EV with Li batteries, please please please install some form of an alarm. Do not believe the hype.
@@danwagner4760 isn’t that the equivalent of having corrosion in your fuel from either your fuel tank or your fuel pump? Your engine’s gonna be destroyed if you have those contaminated in your fuel. I think we should let these EVs in the market and see if it works or not. This push for EVs is almost like the push of diesels in the early 2000s. Time will ultimately tell whether they are here to replace ICE entirely, or be a companion like diesel nowadays.

As an Electronics Engineer I appreciated the highlights but in reality I see this as a car truly design with engineering passion for efficiency first. Go work for a successful small business. Work hard and be an ideal employee. While there learn how the business works (customer service, product, marketing, HR, cash management, taxes). College trained me to be a corporate drone. My PT gig at a deli during college taught me how business works. Those deli lessons helped me build a manufacturing business years later. Never stop learning. Avoid personal debt. Always keep saving. Get rich slowly.

The Panasonic solution? apply a preload on the tap-case junction by an elastomer, it helps passing preload stress from - anode-elastomer-tab-casing.
On the other hand 46800 has replaced 1) welded tab and 2) preloaded elastomer by 3) annealed copper flaps and 4) preloaded bristle contacts. Pay attention to the flaps. The annealed anode flaps cannot hold its initial shape and will be deformed under constant inertial shocks, shocks coupled via the bristle contacts, one by one disconnected from the adjacent contact until the last contact left. The next inertial shock will finally bump the cell open circuited, to induce a spark next to heated chemicals.
Thermal issue:
18650 and 21700 cells had to dissipate heat laterally because cylinder wall has a lower thermal resistance compare to cylinder base. Yet Lucid chose to pass heat through cylinder base. Lucid chose out of a common misunderstanding share by Tesla.
Misunderstanding?
True:
(A) The thermal resistance in axial direction through metal is less than in an radial direction through laminations chemicals and insulation.
False:
(B) it is wise to chose cylinder base to pass heat in/out of the cell.
Why false?
(C) There is a air gap in between (anode roll) and (cylinder base). This gap is practically a thermal insulator. That affect Lucid’s pack architecture.
(D) the air gap is bridged by a wafer of bristle contacts for 46800 cells, as stated in (C) above, annealed flaps and open circuit issues. Granted open circuit is non issue but the bristle contact is as good as air gap in thermal conduction. Can lead to overheated chemical and possible fire and explosion.
Remedy for 46800 tab less architecture?
Employ induction heated soldering to bridge the anode-case junction. Result : open circuit proof with excellent heat transfer axially.
Remedy for 18650 and 22700?
Slightly extend anode copper beyond the insulation, employ induction heated soldering to bridge the anode-case junction. Result : open circuit proof with excellent heat transfer, actually.

I gain enough mechanical knowledge necessary to defend my RF design from being killed by the ornamental and mechanical team’s ignorances on electrical issues. I also learn their problem to offer them my mechanical proposal solutions, hoping to avoid one more display only model off the production line.

Believe it or not, the QUANTITY of so called little batteries is why I will not buy an electric car. All it takes is for one little battery to malfunction for problems to start happening ranging from loss of performance at a minimum to thermal runaway worse case. If you do buy an EV with Li batteries, please please please install some form of an alarm. Do not believe the hype.
@@danwagner4760 isn’t that the equivalent of having corrosion in your fuel from either your fuel tank or your fuel pump? Your engine’s gonna be destroyed if you have those contaminated in your fuel.
I think we should let these EVs in the market and see if it works or not. This push for EVs is almost like the push of diesels in the early 2000s. Time will ultimately tell whether they are here to replace ICE entirely, or be a companion like diesel nowadays.

As an Electronics Engineer I appreciated the highlights but in reality I see this as a car truly design with engineering passion for efficiency first. To own a business- Small businesses make many people financially independent. Go work for a successful small business. Work hard and be an ideal employee. While there learn how the business works (customer service, product, marketing, HR, cash management, taxes). College trained me to be a corporate drone. My PT gig at a deli during college taught me how business works. Those deli lessons helped me build a manufacturing business years later.
Never stop learning. Avoid personal debt. Always keep saving. Get rich slowly.
