    Have you ever wondered what it would be like to drive a bad, high-milage example of a rare car, and then drive a perfect, low-milage example of the same car back to back? Well, thats exactly what I've done here. Today, I find out if my Car Trek Maserati Coupe GT is better than a nearly perfect example of the final hurrah for this platform, the Maserati GranSport.

    You hit the nail on the head, Elliott! Tyler's looks like it is owned by a banker or Italian stock broker whereas yours epitomizes the flashy gregarious 'look at me' statement that appeals to a young man with a dream-car poster mounted to his wall. Both have their place but only one evokes excitement and motivation to work harder to make it big. Thanks for sharing--to you and Tyler.

    If there's one thing I've learned from Car Trek it's that Ed, Freddie, and Tyler are insane... But the *second* thing I'd say I've learned is that the "perfect" car is the one you _want_ to drive, regardless of whether it has a perfect interior, decent mileage, or y'know... doors. I'm surprised you have started looking for cheap aftermarket replacements for help fix the minor issues it has.

    • @ElliottAlvis
      @ElliottAlvis  2 роки тому +5

      You've got a good point. Unfortunately, the aftermarket is extremely limited because they made so few of the cars in the first place. So there just aren't really any 'cheaper' alternatives.

    • @TheRealAlpha2
      @TheRealAlpha2 2 роки тому +3

      @@ElliottAlvis that's too bad... Though that suddenly reminds me how I'm watching another channel where this dude in Japan makes custom bike fairings out of cardboard mocks ups and fiber glass. So something non mechanical like a rear shelf or steering collar cover, you could probably DIY a replacement instead. Might not be pretty but it's an idea.

    Elliott, you “stir my soul!” (to quote one of your lines in this video…) You did a great job with all the comparisons. Both cars look like a blast to drive! But I especially loved the “3rd Maserati…” and it’s sweet little driver… lol

    Great video! I’ve had my Gran Sport since 2007 -> it’s a 2006. Stock GS horsepower is 396, up from 385. I have aftermarket rear Tubi exhaust and the Larini decats….and she screams.
    Secondly, the only item that is “Ferrari” is the block, everything else is Maserati. Ferrari helped designed and they built the engine.
    Thirdly, car has a top speed of over 180 mph, 0-62 in 4.8 seconds…not bad for a normally aspirated, heavy GT car.
    People want perfection and that is not what this car is about….it’s about passion and history. This is a very understated car - and for the most part, a lot of people do not understand this car or Italian cars for that matter. If you want perfection - buy a “yawn” Mercedes/Audi/BMW or Porsche…a dime a dozen.
    Kindly,
    Stephen

    As an owner of GranSport Spyder I can confirm that F1 transmissions can last up 60000 miles. Some folks even do more. You should know how to drive them. That hype over manuals is a "flavour of the month". They are still produced to support demand: Evora, Z coupe from Nissan, etc. but you won't find F1 transmission for the bargain price like in Masi. 4.2 engine is also bulletproof. Happy driving to everyone!

    The GranSport is shiny, but it's not as willing to tell its story, probably because it sat in a garage most of its life. The GT might have had some horrible things done to it, but it has character, and character does a lot for the emotional attachment to a car. Plus, as you said, it's already been bumped around and dinged up, so you don't have to worry about preserving its perfect paint job. You can drive it and have fun without that layer of anxiety! Also, it just sounds so much more rowdy, and therefore better.
    Glad to see another video, Elliott! I really enjoy your car reviews, and it seems like a less expensive way to get a video out than trying to improve the fleet over every episode. Thank you, and I hope you have a great weekend!

    I think you should turn your channel into a flip series. Sell the Maserati, Volvo and BMW, use that money to buy a car that is under valued and needs a little love. Something you can make some money with. Flip that car and trade into something a little nicer that needs the same thing. I love that concept on YT. Not many are doing it and that would interest me. Alex at LSC has a E39 he is working (slowly) and i love it. I think this would bring the views. You have the garage, the skills, and if you sell the fleet, some seed money.

    Your interior would be way nicer than Sweet T Hoover's if someone hadn't ripped it apart, that's for sure. When I think Maserati grand tourer, I think fine, supple Italian leather and some beautiful wood. That was most certainly a fantastic place to be before a prior owner decided to do, whatever that was

      I agree. GT cars needs lots of leather, and mine certainly fits that description lol

    I'd still tend to lean more towards bargain exotics. I'm more than confident that I'd have no regrets in the end, driving something that's 1/2 to 3/4 the car of the super high priced one for a small fraction of the price.

    Driving your beater is like when I had a beater 4 x 4 pickup that I paid $700 cdn for. I was loading some lumber with a buddy and he bashed into the side of the bed. "oh sorry, oh wow, I didn't mean to do that" I looked at him, looked at the scratch, and banged another 2 x 4 into the same spot. WHO CARES? lol...
    There's something to be said about beaters........door dings? pshaw.....bird crap? blah blah blah....stone chip? yeah whatever dude lol.....

    I just can't get past the yellow headlights - I know it's like that on purpose, but it reminds me of a car thats been left in the sun for 30 years and the Perspex clear coat has gone all yellow and crusty - or some Japanese ricer from the 90's where everyone was putting yellow transfers over their headlights. Having said that the wheels on the other car look even worse than the headlights on Elliott's car - but then there is the awful mechano wing on Elliott's car... Oh well beauty is in the eye of the beholder and all that... Anyway they are both lovely cars that have just had some questionable choices made and nothing that can't be fixed so I'd be happy with either of them :-)

    The Ferrari engine bugs me because the internals are not Ferrari. Just like the people that say Alfa Romeos are also Ferrari engines. Even the 4 cylinder ones. Which they used to be, but aren't anymore. I've literally heard that the 4C was a Ferrari 458 engine, cut in half. That's not true! And the V6 was a V8 with 2 cylinders cut off. Yes, that used to be true...but isn't anymore. This is for the new Maseratis I'm talking about.

    The answer to the title question is YES. The reason is because it's the cartrek car for me. Bad car, unfortunate previous owner, interesting but ultimately forgettable story. The other is a great car you actually might enjoy driving and retain some kind of value lol. Its possible to jazz up the banker edition as well if you were inclined.
    Hoovies car sounds so much nicer to. Less like a broken Honda....
