- The NEW Sam's Channel is kicked off with a review for Disney's Mary Poppins Returns; a soft reboot/remake of sorts to the 1964 classic starring Julie Andrews and Dick Van Dyke. Sit back and enjoy as we discuss this long-awaited sequel from the house of mouse.
Starring: Emily Blunt, Lin Manuel Miranda, Ben Whishaw, Emily Mortimer, Colin Firth, Meryl Streep and Angela Lansbury.

Disney's latest slate of live-action remakes has been under some fire since the trailer to Jon Faverau's The Lion King remake has had fans gearing up for another shot-for-shot redo. Could Poppins be the last hope to salvage excitement for their upcoming films? Probably not. It's Disney, after all.
@SamuelGavin
Absolutely loving the new style! You’ve come very far Sam and I’m excited to see more soon.
That feeling of unbridled heart and joy I haven't felt in a while was what I got when I watched Sam Raimi's Oz the Great and Poweful many years ago.
In fact, part of me wonders why they didn't tap Raimi or Chris Columbus to direct this, as they are, in my opinion, among the best at delivering that feeling of heart.
I mostly enjoy the new, more nuanced style of film criticism that this video showcases, but I admittedly miss the old theme song, which gave your videos some extra flavor and made them feel a bit more energetic. Maybe you really want to keep the new music, a decision which I would respect, but that’s my only piece of criticism so far.
I don't intend to use the same track for every video, so there's nothing saying the old theme won't be used again in the future! Thanks for the kind words.
Been so fun to share thoughts on this film
So good to hear your voice and prose again, Sam!
Wow, this was great. Your editing has really clearly improved and I like how much more control over your pace you have. Been a big fan for a while, and it’s great to see you back!
Cheers for such kind words, dude. But you say you've been a big fan like we don't know each other - you're my favourite, Parth! ;P
Great job! One suggestion and one question for you.
Have you considered using multiple pieces of background music throughout the video? It might help liven it up a bit more, but that's just my opinion, since the video's still great.
Any plans to review How to Train Your Dragon 3?
Welcome back!
Great to have you back, Mr. Gavin!
Yay, Sam is back. I look forward to the new channel.
Welcome back Sam. You´ve been missed.
I ADORE the new look. Especially the VHS intro! Can't wait for more!!
Great work, Sam. It's awesome to have you back.
This was a great return, for both Mary Poppins and Sam's Channel!
Great to have you back Sam.
Love the new look to the channel and your review. I certainly liked your new intro for being subtle but effective. Welcome back, Sam! Can't wait for more reviews and content in the future!
Glad your back! Hope this channel will be just a successful
Awesome to see you back in action, great video!
LOVE the new style. Has a chill, yet still very much Sam feel. I’d recommend cutting down the title intro by 5 seconds.
Glad to see you are back.
Welcome back Sam! Great review as always.
Love the new look to it but still maintains your wit and intellect. Glad to have you back.
Do you plan on reviewing films that came out 2017-2018 or just maybe mention them in other film reviews?
Probably both, but I meant what I said in the transitional video on the old channel; I'd love an excuse to discuss The Old Man and the Gun.
@@SamsChannelOfficial I can't wait to hear you talk about Spiderverse.
Welcome back Sam
I was really impressed with the new film!
(Great video but your intro music was a bit off and too long.)
Love the original Mary Poppins so much, easily the best live action Disney Movie imo. Was surprised by how much I liked Returns, admittedly due to incredibly low expectations. Was a fan of most of the songs but was disappointed with the concept. Jane and Michael forgetting their childhood was perfectly explained when the film suggested adults forget their childhood and that children often imagine the magical acts depicted, only for the end to ruin that with Mary Poppins flying to a clock to turn back time...
The film making was very lacklustre in general but I was a fan of the 2D animation scenes.
Incredible video Sam great start too your new channel
Now, this is the UA-cam I been missing!
Good to see you back Sam! I like that you are going for something new here, though I do have to say that I miss the old background music. The background music here feels more relaxed and classy, but it lacks the high energy of the older theme.
Wow great to hear from you again.
Nice to see that you're reviewing movies again Sam. Keep up the good.
"There's really is no way to go but up!"
You son of a bitch lol
Brilliant review, can't wait for more!
Great review
subbing
Totally agree great review
I just realized were not going to get your really cool big bold yellow text thumbnails anymore.
I love the new look for the video.
Thanks, mate! I can start work on that podcast now ;)
I just hate Disney remake in general! If it’s not broken don’t fix it which in this case this movies is nothing like the 1950 Mary Poppin !This is even worse than the Nutcracker and the four realms.
God I've missed this guy
Awwww,No Emoji faces anymore. :(
Bring back the score
I can see a really good reviewer in this video somewhere, but the editing makes the video feel like a power point presentation and you take 9 minutes to say basically "this is a remake[boot], this is the plot, bit too long, pretty good" when really it could have taken maybe 2 or 3 mintues. I do like your narration style and I've seen your old channel before and there was some good stuff on there. But please work on adding some more flair to your style. Either add more humour or go more in depth with the film, it's like being pulled both ways by YMS and Channel Criswell.
