    I've been searching for this ever since middle school when a friend shared her snack with me! I am (28 years old) Korean also, but no matter who I asked, they had no idea what I was talking about. "A thin crispy, hollow roll with sticky cinnamon syrup on the inside... No, not chewy hotteok. Maybe it was a stale, weird hotteok." I've long since thought it was a figment of my imagination... You have proved that it was REAL! Thank you, you've been inspiring me to explore my Korean heritage cuisine for years, I shouldn't be surprised that you helped me with this!! Thanks again, Unni :)

      You might be able to use a tava or cast iron fry pan. It will could end up like sweet flat bread without the puffy look. That's hard to get without an oven.

      And I am Indian... So the procedure was really easy... Pretty much similar to "paratha" But at last it looked like "kachodi"

    How interesting!..my husband is from central Saudi Arabia..an area called Qaseem..they have a type of sweets *just* like this..crispy outside..hollow inside with a caramel like syrup made of sugar, cinnamon and ground dried black lemon..they call it Kulaija and it's delicious!..it's amazing to find all the culinary similarities between cultures! thanks for sharing!

    I made this today maangchi....it was awsome !! It had just the right amount of sweetness. My husband also enjoyed it. I am one of them who just watches your videos, but since you said we have to try this....I gave it a try plus I like crunchy stuff and cinnamon filling with sesame was good :D Glad I tried it...thank you very much maangchi :)

      +mjid souad We have the standard is 240ml for 1 cup. But if you want to transfer 1 cup to gram, it depends on what ingredients that you use.

    Maangchi I am one of your followers who does cook and I have to tell you that I have learned so much from you in regard to technique. I love love love the way you go about cooking. I use your technique for double frying chicken to make some of the best chicken strips I have ever had, and the best part is that you introduced me to potato starch, so my sister who is gluten intolerant can have my delicious chicken strips. I am always so excited to see when you post a new video and I have watched so many of your old ones, even if it is something I would personally never try to make, it always feels like I learn something useful in every one of them. I am a fan! Thanks for bringing your sensibility to us via UA-cam and for demystifying Korean cooking which makes me more adventurous when I visit a Korean restaurant. I appreciate you!!

    I actually had this on a whim and it was labelled as "air bread" at a korean bakery , the inside filling was a little dry but still sweet and nutty from the sesame seeds, the dough also had black sesame seeds kneaded into it. Texture wise, it's nice if you like crunchy /chewy things. VERY good compliment to tea or coffee imo. Will try making these soon!

    @Maangchi Sometimes when I compare your measuring cup it seems bigger than the one I own. Does the cup used in your video is 240ml?
    Because I know there are various different measuring cup (US Customary/Legal, Korean/Japan, Canada, Metric (US, Australia, New Zealand) or International)

    I can't get enough of your videos. For me, doesn't matter what nationality anyone is, learning recipes from other cultures fosters world unity and I always feel like I'm in the kitchen with my mom, grandma or aunts learning a secret family recipe! ;) You are entertaining and a wonderful teacher!!

    Maangchi, my mom has been making this since I was a kid but without any fillings, with lots of sesame seeds and she deep fry it . I ate it often as a kid. Delicious.

    다갈색과 카라멜색이 섞인 빵과 그 반죽을 다듬는 막대의 소리와 영상 전체의 색감들이 참 좋네요.
    이번 영상은 귀여움으로 시작해서 귀엽게 끝난 거 같아요!ㅎㅎ애기들 소꿉놀이 보는 기분이네요.
    빵도 더 작은 계란만한 크기로 만들어보면 엄청 귀여울듯ㅎㅎ
    곧 크리스마스가 다가오는데 기억에 남는 성탄절관련 제빵이나 음식영상도 보고 싶어요ㅎㅎ

    Hi Maangchi ! Just found your You-Tube channel and I wish my late wife were here to enjoy it with me. It's been nearly 4 years since she passed and I miss her Korean food so much.
