Malaysia Night Market Street Food

- Welcome to our Malaysia series! This video is all about making delicious street food discoveries wandering around the night market. There's nothing better than letting all five of your senses loose in pursuit of experiencing something new. Malaysian food is greatly influenced by Chinese, Indian, Indonesian, and Thai cuisine. All these different types of food make eating in Malaysia quite a unique experience for your taste buds. In general, food is quite spicy here so beware, even if locals say it just has 'a little spice.' It's all relative! If you're a spice wuss like me, try asking for 'no spice' to make sure you can handle it... ;)
Watch the rest of our series for more videos about Malaysia and its delicious food. 🇲🇾

🇲🇾Do you like exploring night markets? I'd love to hear one of the best foods you've ever tried at one! 👇
I have not tried night markets, but they are right on target. More night markets!
I love them! Especially when it's so freaking hot during the day and everyone sort of perks up at night and it creates this amazing energy. Not to mention the food...!
Have never been to one. Does the US even have them?
scott a I did some light digging on the and found cities with large or vibrant Asian communities have them. But, in the US many cities have large indoor market halls, like Philadelphia and Baltimore that where the markets have been around for over 100 years, or like DC’s new-ish Union Market with pop-up stalls mixed with more permanent vendors and cooked food stalls. Portland has had its food truck parks too. Many cities have large pop-up farmers markets where there are not only produce and foods to cook, but stalls that prepare foods.
I like the night market idea as well as these traditional markets.
Nice night market all over Malaysia... Welcome...
😁😁😀😀
Amazing how you manage to make me feel that I'm really at the night market. Love the opening drone shots in opening.
Looking forward to Malaysia series.
I'm glad it translates! I just wish smell-o-vision were a thing ;) Can't wait to share more from Malaysia 😁
This is such an intense Mark Weins foodie episode I'm a little overwhelm, but in a good way :) love it, the presentation, editing and music. And the tasty food too. Great one. Safe travels guys, James and Kim
That's high praise! Thanks a lot, you guys! 'Overwhelming in a good way' is actually a great way to describe the night market experience. A feast for the senses for sure :)
The food looked great-liked the look of the fried fish looked very well cooked
Excited for your Malaysia series! We visited last year and absolutely loved it. The mee goreng looked especially good and curry flavor sounds good with the heat
Thank you! :) I'm such a spice wuss but Malaysian food pushes my limits in the best way. Whereabouts in Malaysia did you guys go?
Eileen Aldis Haha consider it as a workout to build your spice tolerance! We were in Penang, Langkawi and briefly in KL
So many different foods and you sure to enjoy them all..........keep them coming.
We did enjoy them! More videos coming, including more about food in Malaysia :)
Came across your video, and fell in love with the opening shot! Glad you had a great time in Kota Kinabalu! :)
Thank you! That's so great to hear :)
Another great video Eileen. Can’t wait to visit!
Thanks, Adam! It's such a cool country and the food scene is grrrrreat! Do mean visit someday or do you already have plans?!
I am addicted to your videos! Thanks for visiting our country!
That's amazing to hear! Thanks so much ❤️
What a beautiful video with awesome, compelling content!
Thanks so much!
Actually, Kota Kinabalu street food is much better than any street food in KL...because you know, you have a lot choices of fresh seafoods there it's so heaven!
Ghoskull War #overproud
Love your positive attitude and lively vibes 🥰
the USA in the nasi goreng stands for U = Udang (shrimp) S = Sotong (cuttlefish) and A = ayam (chicken)
Thanks for spelling that out! :)
Didn't know that. Wow
Wow terima kasih dengan penerangan tu. I use to make fun of the name. Just can’t find the connection between Nasi Goreng and US
Fahmi Fadzil surprisingly a lot of Malaysian don’t know the origin. Hence we have a sausage and sunny side up egg version of this in some hotels and restaurant. Heheheheheh.
asalnyer gitu tpi skrg byk serve dgn daging masak merah dgn telur mata
Nite markets are special! So colorful….Great smelling food everywhere…..Lotsa hungry people!
Your food videos make me hungry! I love your account of each choice…..Everything seems so tasty!
You show me popular culture and real food for common folk….Love seeing what people eat! .....Not sure about the chicken feet!
They are very special. I love the frenetic energy and the sights, sounds, smells and, of course, tastes ❤️
Love Ur contents, explaination, edits, and damn the music/song soo good... Genius!
Thank you!! So glad you enjoyed it! :)
Another beautiful video that makes me feel that I'm there with you. I'd LOVE to visit a market where everything is as fresh as this night market! And, of course, no video is complete without the yummy faces:)!
haha too true. I want to do a compilation video where it's just Marc's 'crazy eyes' 😂 The food scene in Malaysia is unique with all the different influences. Let's just say this won't be the only video about food in Malaysia in this series... 😁
Yes! Please do a Marc compilation! He's got a very expressive face!
Very entertaining and luv ur quirky views and perspective of things..
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it :)
Gosh, I just loved the night markets in Kuala Lumpur! Your enthusiasm is contagious!
Eeee thanks haha! You must've tried some awesome stuff in KL :)
That was a great video! Thanks
I'm glad you enjoyed it! Thank you :)
Love the night markets. Looks like they have an awesome variety of food. The Mango drink, Pineapple drink and all the yummy treats are making my mouth water. Thanks for sharing.
There's a lot of variety for sure. It's so nice to cool down with a drink after the spicy food too 🔥
Hey. I just found out about your video and it is amazing. I want to thank you for filming the Sinsuran night market.
Ur vid on malaysian desserts, those desserts freshly made by my mom which happened to be the vendor.
Cheers 😊
Eileen Aldis
Wow! It's a cool video. I like the food in Malaysia night markets even though I haven't been there yet but I pretty sure that I will visit there. The night market is pretty different than the Taiwanese night market. It's full of tropical style. Have you guys tried the local food which is called curry laksa? My Malaysian friends cooked that for me and she told me that is one of the delicious food that people should try in Malaysia. Enjoy your journey in Malaysia and as always I am looking forward to watching you guys new video.
Lucky you that your friends cooked for you! There are lots of different influences to Malaysian food which makes it unique. We have more videos to come, including with more food. Thanks for the curry laksa recommendation :)
in malaysia, actually there many types of laksa depend on which region or state you are. curry laksa for example is a specialty of the Baba Nyonya people (the 1st chinese settlement in the malay peninsular) state of Malacca. the most popular is laksa penang or asam laksa which is originated from the north state of peninsular malaysia. it taste sour and spicy differents from curry laksa which the gravy is thicker and rich with coconut milk. the noodles used is also different depend on which state you are (there are 14 state in malaysia). besides that there also laksa johor which used spaghetti as main ingredient, laksam popular in east cost of peninsular malaysia, laksa sarawak originated from state of sarawak which is totally different from others. hope your friend let you try all the laksas...
Curry laksa is luxury food in the hotel but only street food here (Malaysia).
Haha..your depiction of the pasar malam (night market) was intense! And a visual feast to the eyes. The night market there has more wow factors than those here in peninsula Malaysia. Never thought someone could come up with such an eye-catching depiction of the humble night market. Keep up the good work guys!
That means a lot to hear! Thank you! The night market is definitely a feast for all the senses :)
come to ipoh perak malaysia..we have many food in here..the place so nice and beutyful..😊
Your drone shots are amazing !!
Thank you! So cool to see things from the sky :)
Your personality is so bubbly and lovely. Makes me happy :)

The fruit juice got to me...looks yummy!!!
I love your vlog. Because you show the real malaysian culture.
A very dangerous country for western people she is very lucky she wasn't killed.
@@mic01 why is that?
@@muhdfaris5924 Islam
mic01 lol are u sure Malaysia is a very dangerous country for western people because of Islam? Have u heard any westerners get killed or bombed here in Malaysia? Just a fact for you, Malaysia keep gaining a lot of tourists especially the westerners, so cheers from the Malaysian Muslim.
@@mic01 so tell me why so many vlog from Western prefer to visit malaysia if they already know Malaysia is very dangerous country because 60% of population in Malaysia is muslim? or you so mad you cant visit to Malaysia because you got "Israel" on your passport. Sorry we cant accept true terrorist in our country 😂🤣
I love images!! Very very nice:)
Thank you! So glad to hear that! :)
Very very good video
glad u guys enjoying your stay here in kk.
Already subscribe your guys ! Travel again to malaysia. I love your food travel and your laugh make me laugh too.. That so funny.. :D thank you visiting malaysia. Come to Kuala Lumpur next time.
The fruits look like artichoke is "Buah Nona". Very sweet inside.
What attracted the most about your video is those musics. You should put up each songs title under your video please. Love from 🇲🇾
Nasi Goreng (Fried Rice) U stand for Udang (Prawn) S for Sotong (Squid) and A for Ayam (Chicken)
Thanks so much for clarifying that!
Welcome to my home town..
You are doing good work and you are beautiful and your laugh is so good ❤
Thank you very much :)
So nice
Wahh nice editing just like documentary
Glad you enjoyed it!
Nasi goreng USA means Udang(prawn) Sotong(squid) and Ayam(chicken)
If you watch Harry Potter, your laugh are similar to Dolores Umbridge xd. Btw good video you just earned a sub ;)
great video
2:07 - When i go to night market, that ‘ayam panggang madu’ (honey grilled chicken) was the first thing im looking for. Actually that not satay/satë. Satay not grilled with honey like that. And satay served with onion, sliced of cucumber and peanut sauce.
6:35 - Originally served with Udang, Sotong, Ayam (shrim, squid, chicken) for who didnt eat beef. But some people want it only with beef and dont know how the menu automatically turn into beef when ask for nasi goreng USA.
7:44 - its called Buah Nona or Nona fruit or in english is sugar apple.
Night market aka pasar malam is truly malaysia.. Really want to visit kk night market after watching those yummy seafood😋
Nice video guys! 👍
Thank you! It's a great market :)
The mystery round green fruit, is Custard Apple, very tasty, though I prefer it’s relative Sour Sop, which is delicious, especially as a drink.
Yum! I'd like to try that as a drink :)
I love all ur video 😍😍😍😍
Thank you so much! ❤️
Tq sister...from kk sabah malaysia..don't worry..malaysia good hahahah

Awesome! We love KK! We made a video around the city I hope you'll enjoy: bit.ly/exploringmalaysia. More videos from Kota Kinabalu coming soon too :)
i think you should go to the peninsular malaysia..there a lot of food with different type of taste..trust me...
I suggest Penang,Johor,Kelantan,Kedah,Negeri Sembilan,Perak..and of course Kuala Lumpur..
Have you even been to borneo urself ? Just asking since u look like u never get out of ur room ..
Nice
I am from kota kinabalu...yohooooo...
I am flying to Kk soon Because of u
Nice vids 👍🏻
Thank you! :)
Nasi goreng (fried rice) USA is Udang=prawns, Sayur=vegetables, Ayam=chicken
Nice video 👍
Thank you!
7:49 .. Buah Nona.. that's very rare fruit to find sold at market. It has a very short eatable duration... You pluck it from the tree in the morning, you must eat before night .. so kind of hard to sell, you cant harvest it before its ready. I have the tree at the back of my home so have no problem enjoying it regularly.
i can totally relate about the sound of ice cus malaysia is so hot
Just came to watch u r smile
Thanks Adam :)
Next again, go to semenanjung malaysa
More spice more deliciouse for malaysian .
Bbq chicken that you called satay, that's 'ayam madu' means honey chicken. That why it's sweet. Satay it's different from that and don't have bone.
That my home town kk😘😻🇲🇾
2:08 bila kau terbeli fd tp tercerah sgt...muka jadi kelabu asap 😂
安安❤吃好吃滿😄💙💜💙💓❤💞💞
💖😁
Nice video.... i also from Kota Kinabalu Vlogger
That's awesome! Hello! It's nice to e-meet you :) We made other videos in KK that are here if you'd like to see them: bit.ly/malaysiaplaylist. More coming soon!
😊
Aw! Will you be coming to Kuala Lumpur?
Ikan bakar. My favourite
ahh the grilled fish, yes?
@@EileenAldis yes.. fresh fish grilled. Sting ray, squid, prwans, crab. Yummy
sabah..pasar malam lama..
nasi goreng usa means, usa is for udang sotong ayam literally mean prawn squid chicken.
Thanks for sharing that!
aku pusing satu malaysia tak jumpa lg nasik goreng USA yg adanya udang sotong dan ayam..yg biasa aku jumpa nasi goreng serta daging (beef steak) dan telor mata kerbau...ini dikatakan USA sbb spt org amerika makan.
Nope. USA fried rice stand for Udang Sotong Ayam. So if you ordered one without any shrimps or cuttlefish then it is not USA fried rice. 😉
tahun2 90an memang masak udang sotong ayam. mungkn kos nk masak semua tu dah mahal sekarang
di utara nasi goreng USA ada udang, sotong, ayam,. sesetengah tempat hidang dgn daging masah merah
maryam amirah yurp. Kt kl, dpt daging merah
@@hyuuganatsume2621 xpernah lagi aku tgk usa ada udang sotong semua..aku duk terengganu.. Belajar dekat pahang.. Srlalu gk g kelantan.. Usa daging + telur je..
You forgot to mention malay (varieties of signature dishes in each states), arabs, pakistani, western, and lately japanese and korean dishes that enrich malaysian dishes.. 😊
Did u try local fruit durian? I guess..first try would be a terrible pungent odor..but after trying 3 od 4 time..you ll be in love wth it..im sure..
Yes, we did try durian! I actually liked it the first time even though everyone said I wouldn't haha. We tried a lot of locals foods and those videos are here if you want to see (and watch our reaction to trying durian the first time haha): bit.ly/malaysiaplaylist :)
I am new one here.this girl is cool blogger
Thanks for the nice compliment!
There is reason why the fried rice been called Nasi Goreng U S A. U S A stand for Udang (Prawn) Sotong (Squid) Ayam (Chicken). It supposed to been served with this 3 ingredients.
Revolusi makanan tu.....sebab seafood xleh campur dgn makanan darat....sebabtu tukar daging +telur.....yg masih kekalkan tradisi usa tu majnanya die xconcern,.....
I'm a fellow spice wuss LOL but so much of that stuff looks oh so tempting. Well maybe except for the fishies with the beady eyes staring at you LOL. How did the seaweed taste? Ahh yes I know what you're talking about with the crispy crackly sound of ice stirring and can opening!
Guess who's not going to bed anytime soon? :) Your fault again ! hehehe. This night owl will be awake for three more hours at least :)
Funky music choice here too..like it!
haha hope you got your sleep eventually, Scott! I'm a night owl too :) I didn't taste the seaweed here because he recommended boiling it with spices and I had nowhere to do that. But I enjoyed admiring it and asking him questions. So pretty and different. I'm glad you can relate to that sound of a cold drink being cracked open. Probably years of those awesome Coke commercials have created a Pavlovian response in me 😂
the fruit is called 'buah nona' or in english, sugar apple.
Thanks for telling us! Sugar apple has to be the cutest name ever.
Fruit is called Atis in the Philippines or Sugar-apple
Sugar apple is such a nice name!
imagine how much you can get with 10 CAD.
7.49 that is custard apple or sugar apple.
👍👍👍🥰🥰
Malaysian people love to eat spicy
i am hungry now
Haha I get it!
If you don't ask her to marry...I will! 😀 Lol
😂😁
😃
7:48 that is a custard apple.
Actually Nasi Goreng USA is not United state of America but *Udang=shrimp, Sotong=squid Ayam=chicken* . In English we called it as Fried Rice Shrimp, squid and chicken.
Thanks for sharing what the letters mean :)
Those prices are crazy
Yeah, the value is incredible! Such delicious food for comparatively low cost 💰
this is cheap mate
Matthew McCurdy yes no reason to be hunger
Nothing is cheap in Canada except McDonald cheese burger lol
Matthew McCurdy when you are making money in canada then yes the price is crazly cheap. when you are working in malaysia is going to be a different story
Yooo... that's my country
Awesome! Whereabouts in Malaysia are you from? More videos coming...! :)
@@EileenAldis im selangor. Also i suggest you trying out "sambal"... its really good 😉😉
Yeahh KK
this is like....5 minutes from my house..the food..is okay
Really? What's your favourite thing to buy there?
That's not satay...that's chicken BBQ...satay is with spice....and dipped in spicy peanut sauce
nasi goreng U.S.A mean U..udang(shrimp)..S...sotong(squid)....A....ayam(chicken)....
Brilliant I didnt know that for centuries .Thank you.
Nasi goreng USA =udang sotong ayam (USA)😂
haha thanks for clarifying! 😆
