just to clarify, stoutland weighs less than emboar, so you save like a full second every time you send out a pokemon by using stoutland! pretty cool stuff
1 more reason to like stoutland
Can you give an estimate for how many times you’d pull out the starters for a run? I’m unfamiliar with the run but am really interested in how much time this saves.
Put that in the video then
@@lildmckayerytime you battle. Wouldn't that be a lot? Unless you're like Werster who used Excadrill for his BW2 runs
@@xyannail4678 It's a speedrun, you should really only being doing mandatory fights. But the question is, how many are there in Black and White
“for some reason?” lol its a good animation it brings oomph to sprites
Not scientifically accurate though. Weight doesn't make you fall a different rates.
Could've just made the animation the same length with more oomph/bang at the bottom 🤷♂️
@@chrissingleton8875 That is the animation. They all fall at relatively the same rates, it just adds more and longer oomph, camera shake and dust particles. Don't know what you mean, since you described the same thing OP said in the video.
@@chrissingleton8875 isn’t that… exactly what’s happening? The heavier Pokémon creating dust clouds when landing, wasting more time, but the fall it self is the same still.
@@chrissingleton8875 bro it’s a kids game relax there’s no reason for you to tweaj
@@chrissingleton8875 actually it does seem pretty accurate. they don’t fall at different rates. what actually happens is the landing recovery takes longer. this is shown as the dust clouds pop out after the pokémon land and then there’s the pause that makes the animation take longer. it’s almost as if they add more oomph/bang at the bottom 😱
Not to mention Tackle was buffed to 50 base power in gen 5. STAB tackle is SO good early game with Lillipup
Also Return is an all round great move because you’re using a singular Pokémon
I didnt realise how scary trainers' Herdiers were with Take Down, 80 base power (iirc), x STAB = 120 base power
Especially considering your pokemon at that point don't usually have something that powerful, but yours are fully evolved by the time you start seeing trainers with Stoutland, so Stoutland isn't as scary
And was given 100% acc. instead of the normal 95% (70%) acc. But I gotta be honest, I decided that I'd use blitzle my first time and uh. Immediately ditched it for scolipede when I encountered venipede
@@matthewlacey4198 Isn't take down 90 base power?
Currently doing a nuzlocke (black2, but still applies), and the lillipup line also has surprisingly high stats. You get return and the silks carg very early. Stab silk scarf return hits ridiculously hard for such an early game setup. My stoutland has been carrying the nuzlocke since I caught it back in flocessy ranch
The Lillipup line is definitely a great mon for a Nuzlocke. Intimidate automatically makes a Pokemon worth considering in a Nuzlocke. It helps shore up Stoutlands decent bulk, as well as providing some pivot utility even if Stoutland can't contribute directly in a matchup.
STAB Work Up + Tackle/Take Down is absurdly powerful in the early game, and like you said, its damage scales well thanks to STAB Return/Silk Scarf, Crunch for Ghosts, and the Elemental Fangs from the move relearner for additional coverage. It's just a very splashable Pokemon in general.
I know this is 2 weeks later, but it also helps that Stoutland can learn Surf. Helps round out the move set so you can deal with rock types and Golurk.
Same principle as why zigzagoon is so good early game in emerald. Silk scarf stab headbutt is goated
It will carry u to the endgame and if it dies (first of all, shame on you) you should give it the biggest goodbye the world has witnessed
Also it only got better in newer gens, being one of the fastest and bulkiest mons utilising Sand Rush, having all the usual utility moves normal types usually have.
Everytime I see a Lillipup in a game, I almost always catch it. Those dogs are extremely versatile in my playthroughs. Especially considering Stoutland's wide movepool and access to unorthodox moves like Rain Dance and Thunder.
big bonus if its Pokébody is Sand Rush, giving you immunity to sandstorm damage.
@@basilmahyoub3607you mean Ability?
If I'm not using one in a playthrough, I just catch 5 with the pickup ability and collect a ton of free items until i replace them with a team member.
@@basilmahyoub3607 this is legit the first time I see someone call abilities "pokebody". I know that's basically the TCG equivalent of abilities but never have I heard anyone refer to specifically video game abilities as pokebody.
Also, Fire, Ice and Thunder Fang
Finally someone who appreciates Lillipup. Its just a cute and innocent good boy.
Same. Normally a cat person, but I caught one of those fellas when I first played it when I was smaller (and the game just released) and just rolled with him till the end
Emolga is good too, acrobatics sweeps everything
@@SMCwasTaken yes, they are underrated pokemon, because there is always "something better"
@@spangly20 is there a pika clone better than Emolga?
@@SMCwasTaken I think that Mimikyu, but he is like a weird cousin of the pika clones, for not having the electric type. But I think it is at the level of Emolga.
"Weird mechanic"
"For some reason"
It's pretty obvious why they added it, and not at all weird.
It's not pretty obvious why they added it, and very weird.
See I can be a douchebag just like you!😊
Back in middle school, I asked one of my friends to take my game to his house so he could get me to the Victini encounter because I didn't have internet at home. He got me to the encounter but he took my Oshawott so I pretty much treated Stoutland as my starter and it actually worked out pretty well.
So he stole your oshawott?
@@therealchaosguy Basically, so I had to choose Victini or to start over
@@jokersruby287 Top ten anime betrayal.

I ditch my starter for Swaddle, i only need a friend.
Mad respect. Leavanny is my favorite bug type :)
@@HydrainaNot the biggest fan of Leavany, but it's prevos are so good. Swaddle easily stands out as the best base regional bug.
Im the same but with Roggenrola
He can also learn Surf, Cut and Strength. On top of that his base attack and special are pretty ok
The Lillipup line is probably my favourite dog Pokémon bc of how absurdly versatile and tanky it is. Plus, like, just look at them 😍
I hate it.
@@denjeezyou hate dogs
@@georgetheanimator I hate Lilipup it's all I ever got in Pokemon Go.
@@denjeez Heh, Pokemon Go you say? You have zero clue how actually great this good doggo is. Especially for my heart, it fulfills one big part 🐶❤ (Hey I have to assert my dominance here no matter how crazy I sound lmao. I never thought other people like this line too)
Lillipup was always the best in that gen. It's why every gym leader had it
I concur on this. During a nuzlocked run, Cilan wiped out everyone on my team but my Lilipup- and the thing he used to one shot most of my team WAS a rabid Lilipup. Those pups are *monsters*.
reminds me of the time me and my friends discovered back in gen 3 that zigzagoon learns headbutt at lvl 9 so we ditched the starters in the early game
me and the boys going to ditch any other pokemon to catch bidoofs
@@guilherme-mu2eh huh?
Early game headbutt is cool until you realise it's the strongest move linoone learns if you don't count take down (because it sucks). Couple that with mediocre stats and you have a Pokémon that starts off strong and falls off as you progress, unlike the starters *wink wink*

when i was younger, on my friends first playthrough of pokemon white the first wild pokemon he encountered was a shiny lillipup... bro had the most pristine run of the game of all time
im never speedrunning my favorite game if i can't use samurott
Well you can for fun but it wont be optimal
bro putting my starter in the pc feels like treason to me idk
@@Hamboig3r I released my starter in the new games
Samurott is the only starter I pick for gen 5 for a few reasons:
I hate pure grass types
Tired of fire/fighting types (plus I am not dealing with arm thrust for 20 levels)
The water types in gen 5 aren't the greatest in comparison to the starter. Meanwhile there are good alternatives to fire and grass.
One of the very few times I actually pick the water starter
@@bananakakyoin7452 person said 8 year old game is one of the new games… damn
Lillipup was my first caught Pokémon in Unova. Ah good times. I can’t wait for BW Remakes.
we are probably quite far away with how they have been remaking games
@@MelonSkywalker Why? Which games will be released before gen 5 remakes?
Also i would kill for a legends kyurem game
No. I dont want remakes. Especially after the gen 4 ones.
Just play BW2, it's as good as Gen 5 (and Pokémon in general) will ever get lmao
Careful what you wish for
The fact that Speed runners use a Normal type in a game with a Fighting Elite 4 Member is hilarious. Imagine, being one of the 4 strongest trainers in the region, and this 10 year old speed demon blazes into your room, ignores everything you say, And just tosses a pokemon weak to your pokemon out, and proceeds to murder your mons with it
Assuming nothing else changed you'd most likely still switch into exadrill after Driftveil City.
The normal type may not have the same glorious reputation as dragon and fairy types, but it certainly has some good mons.
Between the high base stat monsters like Touros, Snorlax, Ursaring, Slaking, ect.
And surprise heavy hitters like guts boost + facade + silk scarf which is easiest on Swellow in Hoenn, but even just guts boost helps Raticate step up.
And setup mons like bellydrum linoone or work-up lilipup.
Once you start stacking modifiers it doesn't take much for a mediocre attack stat to become dangerous. Just stab + item + 2 other things like ability, setup, or niche move case, and even a neutral normal type move can start oneshoting even pseudolegendaries.
@@jasonreed7522 Normal? More like abnormal... haha, I'm so funny 😐
When I caught a lilipup I thought I wanted to name it but I changed my mind, but the game didn't let me back out so I named it lilipup. Fast forward to the end of the game and a stoutland named lilipup is soloing most encounters I got into
That's interesting, on my first nuzlocke, that first Lillipup I've named Ashton is a hard survivor, and didn't died yet. Even out lived my starter.
Such a good boi. Considerate enough to save our time.
Speed runners: *ditches their starters in order to save a split second each battle*
Me: *choosing Snivy every time* I just think he's neat.
same lmao
Based Jevil
Ok
SAME! Snivy is my favorite starter! Just love this little snek 😩🙏💙
oshawott supremacy
First off, how is that no one before buster noticed that heavy mon have an extra animation to show their weight? I thought this was common knowledge. So it's not about optimization of the fights, it's about frame time. Man the speedrunning community is just...fascinating.
Everyone already knew but still thought emboar was the best until stoutland strats were found
At that point, is better to hack the game to remove animations entirely 😂
@@claudiolentini5067 That… That’s not… What?
a lot of the times it's about frames lmao
@@claudiolentini5067 that, my good sir, is cheating
It's literally what i did in my first ever let's play of black and white. When I saw Lillipup I thought "F snivy this needs to be my starter"
Speedrunning is nucking futs.
I'm not surprised. Lillipup hits like a truck. Tackle is much better in this game and it gets STAB, then it gets Bite early as well. Solid start and it remains really good throughout the rest of the game.
Emolga is good too, acrobatics sweeps everything
You also have a chance to get Intimidate, which adds a bit of time but the benefit is worth it
That’s crazy, when I initially played Pokémon Black I picked tepig and also caught an lilipup. My other Pokémon’s were weak but Scoutland cleared every elite 4 member and the champion. He’s really a good pick. Plus intimidate is awesome.
The pokemon's cries are nostalgic 100%
Lillipup is even really good in playthroughs. Even if you wont speedrun just try it out, it kicks ass.
Hearing that speedrunners used to sweep the game with Emboar does not surprise me in the slightest. I love my flaming bacon behemoth.
“On a dark dessert highway”
Stoutland is a beast, I used him in almost every playthrough.
I always loved this thing casually. It's cool to seem em be good at top level. A top level anyway
Stoutland has always had a strong presence in vgc lol
I stand by switching the starter out for lillipup...cause one time in Pokemon white I thought what would happen if I used a different pokemon I think this was in 2011...and in 2020 I played through white 2 and chose to use lillipup hence why Stoutland became one of my fave pokemon...I will always stand by that pokemon line ✌️
The dog is the goat in b2w2. Yes it's super versatile but also brainless return + silk scarf spam is really powerful
Being a big Tepig fan, hearing from someone who knows their stuff say Tepig is optimal compared to the other two starters makes me extremely happy.
Fighting type punches through Team Plasma fights reliably + Flame Charge go brr
Emboar my beloved
Also learns work up too. Big save on burgh esp his dwebble
Im so glad im not the only emboar fan
I enjoyed its versatility in my original playthrough. Flare Blitz + Head Smash + Wild Charge + Take Down lol
also the ability run away can really help cause of those long caves this game have
I usually ignore the deaignated route 1 normal types but I really like the Lillipup line, also yeah work up is really frickin good
I think I never fully evolved any of the starter Pokémon during the story playthrough because I didn't like em, usually picked tepig and swapped it asap for darmanitan and always got galvantula
The Lillipup line as a whole is extremely good for what a route 1 mon usually is. Normally the best you get before gen 5 on a first route is a Starly and while Staraptor is a pretty good pokemon, it has poor matchups across all but 2 gyms in sinnoh. Stoutland is like Staraptor but without any of the weaknesses.
Especially with it's high TM movepool. Staraptor ain't got nothing on Stoutland.
@joshuakorynta3385 but also simple bibarel Is surprisingly good. Like REALLY good with swords dance defense curl then rollout.
My boy Stoutland (and its evolution line) deserves the love. 😄
I would’ve assumed speed runners turn animations off but I guess there’s probably different types of speed runs to do in Pokémon
Has it been implemented into an official run yet?
yee, current US any% WR uses stoutland
@@ackoladeTVoes Werster use it?
the normal ass animals are always the most fun pokemon, I never understand it
Shiny hunting starter snivy makes these sounds all too painfully familiar.
I remember as a kid, I did do a run where I used lillipup as a starter cause I liked it so much
Me who just picked Oshawatt because they’re so cute…
"for some weird reason" come on man, cause it was cool as fuck.
Lillipup is very adorable too, I always use one (Also because it can be my surf mon)
My play was unusually good when i caught a Lilipup and used him as a main until i stopped playing at the first route
Getting rid of your starter is also a nice way to increase the difficulty.
Starter Pokémon usually have higher stats than everything else in the game, except for a few exceptions and legendaries. They were designed for players to destroy everything in their path effortlessly, so getting rid of them helps balance it out.
Not the point lol
@@sptflcrw8583
I know.
Not the point lol
The waffle house has found its’ new host
Dang those cries are nostalgic
its the best for speedrun but i cant ditch my boy sam
i always would pick a random starter and then my first catch would be lillipup and then id have an over powered stoutland 😂
So your telling me when I did this as a teen when the game came out it was actually optimal. My poor Oshawatt never had a chance.😂
Not going to lie, I was just thinking this before I saw your post. You beat me to the punch! Good video.
That’s a really cool detail if you’re not trying to rush through the game or speed run it.
I got an adamant lilipup, decided that was my starter and it was a monster even before it evolved.
I actually did this as a child on my B&W playthrough. Didn't know it was a real strat.
I'm not ditching my Snivy.
"For some reason..." eh? Really helps when considering Low Kick, Grass Knot, Sky Drop, Heat Crash, Heavy Slam, etc.
Not really
Funny how a little detail they added for effect like this makes a vast difference in speedruns.
I used a Stoutland for a Nuzlocke after my starter died and he became my ace. Interesting to see he can be used for other things.
"for some reason" lmfao
The electric gym is harder then those 2
Lillipup also can have pickup, which is always a good item to have in the early game of a normal playthrough
What's funny is that when I was young I went through most of the game with Lillipup with snivy just hanging around in my party for BW2
I remember playing this game good times.
Agreed. I got Tepig when I played the game, but instead ditched it for Riolu.
i'm guessing that they need to catch one with pickup since getting a stoutland with intimidate would also lead to an animation enerytime it enters the field
Speedrunners finding a way to be 1 second faster than others
The heavy mechanics was really cool to watch
Good thing this doesn’t happen with Cosmoem
Smart! Stoutland is an excellent late game all-rounder too and became one of my favorite Pokémon (I used it in final fights in three different games too)
I'm glad to know that Lillipup is the best starter in the game because a small fraction of players use it for a very specific play style.
awwwe they sound so adorbs
Its interesting to think it took 7 years or something for people to think does this animation take longer and is emboar truly optimal
Man pt1 and pt2 was the best games of my childhood
Hearing these gave me so much nostalgia
That's fine. I hope nobody will start fatshaming Emboar though. He can't do anything about it, he just has a slow metabolism.
Lillipup can also have the ability pickup which can be really good at the start of the game for speed runners.
I’m a sonic fan so when I saw the anime and saw that Sandshrew and Sandslash can roll up into a ball like a spindash, instantly fell in love plus the design was just so good, I always named mine Knuckles due to the shiny form.
Speedrunners live in an entirely different world and I do not mean that as a compliment
Yeah you meant it as a synonym to a compliment, a flattering remark. Glad you love speed runners they're pretty cool. 😊
Lilipup also has a brutally strong movie in Tackle which was buffed. With STAB it’s a heavy hitting move for the beginning of the game.
I will never give up snivy. My homie is literally so smug and I love it 😂
Imagine having a wailord or a mudsdale
It still makes the heavy effect
Speed runners: Ditch your starter and get a Lillipup!
Me, an intellectual: Nah, I'mma stick with my Golett.
I basically did this my first playthrough on accident lmao. I loved my Stoutland
I wish Mienfoo was an early game mon. Mienshao is basically my Gen 5 ace and Mienfoo can easily hold its own until its late evolution.
When I play Pokémon black and white I would play it with some relatives and we breeded the starter Pokémon so we could trade them and each have our own copy of a starter pokemon
also when you get the first Evolution, they learn "Intimidate" meaning you have a small safety net to set up against the first enemy pokemon
Intimidate mean that the extra second save from the animation is wasted by it.
@@trandaiphuc5342 true, but you can't really stop it for a while as i believe it's garenteed
stoutland is one of my favorite pokemon. such a good boy
Lillipup is actually my favorite Pokémon so I was delighted upon finding this out!
Heheh I must have been kinda smart when the game came out because when I noticed the drop animation was making the start of the fights go longer. I knew that something was needing to be done to speed the fights up. That adorable puppy was the head of my team all the way
Also if you want one to have vital spirits so it'll become intimidate later. You can dedicate all the other slots to five other little baby pups that I pick up especially if you wanted addiction to free items😂
These games are honestly so amazing
