- Many Malaysians were appalled by the selling price of the new Mazda 3 range. Starting from RM140k for the low spec, and then RM150k for the mid spec and tops out at RM160k for the highest spec. Means the cheapest empty spec Mazda 3 is more expensive than the highest spec Corolla and Civic. Let's dive in and see if it's worth while.

Your's is the best review of the Mazda 3 period. I'm from South Africa and I have been searching for a proper review of a Mazda 3 hatch that has the same engine spec offered in my country but with more content in it. This has been a blast to watch from the get go. The spirited driving you displayed, I wished it wouldn't end. I love it. Then the detail you went through on this car is the type I've been wanting to hear. Thank you for that.
People in my country are sleeping on this magnificent machine in favor of the so called premium brands. If they could look closely at the details like the doors of the big brands then I think their focus would shift. The Audi Q2 for instance is just pain Tupperware plastics on the doors and is 2/3 the price of this car spec for spec. By the way we do get Bose sound as standard on the top spec this side of the world.

Great review! I thought the same too that this car's design has some Italian "flavours" compiled with intelligent Kodo design languange. Awesome red colour that dances, and immaculate interior. Hats off to Bobby who can use his experience with european cars to points out lil flaws of the car. Again, great review Bobby!

Just the paint job alone is the Testament of premiumness that no car makers in this segment is doing. Now the specs and interior is another story plus the driving dynamics. I have no concern about the pricing when you can get the best out of it. Yes, you're right this car isn't competing with the mainstream C-segment car but with the European premium brands

Test drove this fine machine over the weekend. It was easy to get comfortable in and find the perfect driving position. Touch points were lovely. Amazingly spec-ed to the brim. Plenty of low-down torque for an NA. Excellent NVH. Surprisingly comfortable next to the CX-5. Brilliant driving dynamics. I would get this in a heartbeat.
Hi bobby, with a budget around RM170k would you recommend to get a high plus Mazda 3 or 2.0 Mazda 6 instead?
the spirit of mazda 3 is amazing, i drive a 323 familia sedan, even that old mazda 3 model has direct satisfying handling and steering feel, not much power but it was low to the ground and turns super well for an fwd car, i would buy one back for the memories and daily it, currently have mazda 3 2006 and mazda 3 2011 and they all have their own characteristics, but one thing never missing is the handling

I bought this Mazda 3 hatchback 2.0 on Nov 2021, same color. So far, I like the design and handling. Everything you said about the handling is true. I like it. It feels like dating with awek jepun...kikiki

30:50 about the seat, there was a case in CX-7 in Indonesia that the damage to the motor, it cannot be fixed but to purchase a whole seat (1 pc) for 15 million rupiahs...in Indonesia people like Mazda for the fun to drive (Jinba Itai) but the negative side is the cost maintenance is way highed that other Jepun car, and also sometime the parts must be in waiting (not ready stock in workshop). But Mazda through Eurocars Indonesia dealership has truly uplifted the Mazda brand in here. Cheers.

You actually can shout up the vents, you need to put them on the most right/left position till you feel it clicks. That's it :)

Very good review bobby. Well to be honest im agreed with you. Without a no doubt, mazda's car are fun to drive. I recently did drove my sister's 6. The 1.5 variant thru a menora to penang and yeah its handle very well. And build quality i would say on par with my golf R line. Even the 1.5 engine give a decent power for overtaking. Just im still not sure about those ass tho. But the front end look so sharp and even my mother said the golf look so boring when park side by side with the 3 lol. Its seems my mom would be a car journalist too hahaha. Anyways keep it up with more car reviews bro. Im looking forward for that. 🤙💪

@@xyumomo I would say the best part is the user experience, from exterior to interior fitted with all the leather and soft touch material, you could really feel the sincerity from Mazda.. Put it aside of the good part, if would to mention something i dislike(somehow it doesn’t affect much), maybe you will feel more from the road when come to bad road condition, but I believe even with softer suspension, we might still slightly feel those from the road haha
Rate 9/10 cause there are always spaces of improvements 🤣

1 thing that i really wish for Mazda 3 to come with, is the adaptive cruise control with stop and go feature (Like X50 or new Civic). Still this Mazda 3 is in my list of purchase options

Hi Bobby. Thanks for this great review. Got a question. In driving this car in Sport "Manual" mode, will the car downshift on corners automatically as it does in sport "Auto" mode? No need to downshift yourself?
on my experience, it will not downshift as quickly as in automatic mode.. but if you it reaches the limits it will

Actually you can shut off the vent by toggle/pushing the fin to the left till you hear a click.
By the way u can close the vents by moving the slides to the end
Isn’t it that the horizontal bar consists of two seating adjustments? The front end does the inclination angle while the rear end does the seat height?

Japanese design and engineering at its best All the others are too focused on making money. I find Mazda is focused on building what they feel is the best car they can make. As they grow as a company they will continue to improve. Very underrated motor company. If Mazda had Toyota’s budget for a year I’d love to see what they could come up with.

Looking at it from rear 3 quarter view, it would have been nice if the rear door handle were hidden at where the quarter window is. Cleans up the side even more.

If you come from turbo engines definitely won't feel it's fast

the focus has better suspension definitely. so it is the choice for me if the roads are rough. the mazda 3 has a organic rwd feel to the way it steers while the ford focus feels very much like how a golf drives (because vw stole ford's engineers) ... great but still distinctly fwd

test drove both just bought the 2022 mazda 3 2.0g sp 165hp love it its more refined the cabin feels more premium sound system is the best in class cabin quiter and the infortainment thou not as advance feel classy the car is easy to understand great and fun to drive better handaling then the civic but civic is faster but not as nice and the instrument dials thou more advance feels to cartoonish and dont actully provide anymore usable info then the mazda so a more classic monotone graphic of mazda just feels more expensive honda has to much graphics honda is faster with better fuel economy but cvt is really the downside in the powertrain and have wireless apple car play the mazda 3 still uses wire and no touch screen so it depends on what you want honda is easy to tuned thou with very little money you can make it really fast mazda is harder to mod.

Suspension feels more comfortable and absorption in speed rather than going slow? That’s the characteristic of the E90 ! Mazda still holds on to the driver centric philosophy but BMW had move to mass market appeal. Kudos Mazda.

I really wonder if there is another different 8 speakers setup, considering Bobby comments.

Nope. Because that would already be a pre reg car, and it should depreciate slightly more than that. But the hard thing now is to get a used new MAzda 3 because it is already priced out of mainstream, and buyers will likely only be enthusiasts and they won't sell their cars so soon.

Worst comfort out of the three especially for rear passengers when driving legally. But best comfort when you're driving illegally at mountain roads. 😂

Hmmm.. Yes, they do expect it to be low volume and hence higher margins but then again, maybe you'd want to check the tax structure before commenting..
Our excise tax ties with the engine capacity. For the same price to be had with a 2.5, you'd hv to lose a lot of the other features.
@@annuarrahman4199 2.5 barely make anymore power the asean spec mazda 3 makes 165hp the 2.5 makes 184 that like 19 more hp the torque maybe a bit better but rather have the bose sound system then the 2.5

Can one successfully pair an Android phone with the sound system of this Mazda 3? I read with iPhone no issue but it is not clear where Android phones are concerned. Also a bit disappointed that Mazda has completely done away with providing even one CD slot. Yes, perhaps CDs are going out of fashion but I still have tons of CDs to play!

Btw, Mazda is focus on the look while Toyota is focus on fuel efficiency. Honda is focus on space room
I personally think Mazda is more fuel efficient with its skyactiv engine (high compression yields higher efficiency), toyota is still using the same old engine right? Correct me if I'm wrong

I think Toyota not really that great on FC anyhow. Neither any great on FC but if I were to choose, maybe Honda slightly edge on FC.

Thats actually a hill climb. Not a regular street road. Also due to the large availability of highways and freeways everywhere, you dont have the excessive traffic scenario as seen in other Asian countries despite the fact that this country has more cars than most of its neighbors.

Because to get that you have to get a whole package of extra stuff. And to be offered the chance to get that package, you have to get the most expensive trim of the car, and none other.

Comparing this car to the car u hate most, the hyundai elantra.. how the drivability compare?? Since, it price 2/3 of this car priced??
The elantra handles well but typical FWD characteristics. This one has RWD characteristics. So for my amateur driving skills, i dare to push the elantra harder than this one where i keep having the false perception of the tail might step out. I would say give me 1 day for each car i can drove the elantra faster, but give them to me for 1 month i think i can extract more out of the mazda. But that's just for my level. I'm sure experts like ys khong, tom goh sure will be able to immedoately get more out of this than i do
