Rikki was a married woman Donald Fagan had a bit of a crush on - the wife of one of his teachers - Rikki Ducornet.. He gave her his phone number at a party they both attended. She never called. The guitar work was from Jeff "Skunk" Baxter right before he left to join The Doobie Brothers.
They admitted taking the beginning riff from Song For My Father by Horace Silver, so it's part jazz for sure. Be sure to listen to the rest of the song so you can hear Jeff Baxter's killer guitar solo. Fagen eventually revealed Rikki was Rikki Ducornet, his college crush and an award winning writer. He gave her his number even though she was married
Lots of folks think that song is about Homer. However in the first 2 lines they clearly say this is a story you thought you knew, but you are wrong. The tune is really about a person that will only find "his home" when he is dead. However he does not want to be the hand that causes it, so he waits and welcomes it when it comes. Much, much deeper than the original Homer, and very typical lyrics for steely Dan to have other secret meanings.
Steely Dan lyrics are cool, smart, sometimes snarky but ,for the most part, are open to interpretation. Don't assume that they are always sexual in nature because the vast majority of them are not . TO add to your lit to check out I offer these amazing songs ...King of the World, Third World Man, Any Major Dude, Pretzel Logic, Jack Of Speed, Your Gold Teeth 2, Black Friday, Home at Last, Bodhisattva, Glamour Profession, Night by Night, Cave of Altamira, Don;t Take me Alive. Thanks for your reactions!
For one of the most iconic drum grooves of all time check out their song 'Home At Last'. Mr Bernard Purdie with the "Purdie shuffle". The whole song is a vibe.
You were on the meaning of the song early in this one. Of course when released to the public no one one new who Rikki was. I found in my yrs. following Steely Dan that the record label's choice of songs or maybe it was Steely Dan's choice wasn't ( my opinion only ) their best songs on their albums. Not that I didn't enjoy them, I enjoyed everything they did., it's just I found other songs on their albums even more pleasurable to listen to then the ones the public heard on radio. Even Fm radio didn't play many of other songs on their albums with the exception of " My Old School", "Dirty Works", Pretzel Logic" and maybe one or two more but not often. As always I found your reaction interesting and enjoyable. ✌️ If your interested with talented musicians of the 70's check out Johnny and Edgar Winter - " Tobacco Road" live video.
A timeless classic.🤎 Please also react to Boz Scaggs. I think youd like his soulful and jazz-pop music. He was pretty big back in the day and right up there with Steely Dan, Bobby Caldwell and other super talented and soulfully unique musicians.👌
"Our little wild time had just begun" "I have a friend in town, he's heard your name, We can go out driving on Slow Hand Row" "You tell yourself you're not my kind, But you don't even know your mind" Look up suggestions to what "Slow Hand Row" means.

I keep requesting HOME AT LAST !

It's hard to call, but probably my favorite.
Oops, what happened?
Yeah where's the rest of it?
Totally killer song.
where's the 2nd half of the song?
You need to do Hey nineteen by Steely Dan next, you will love it.

The opening piano was borrowed from Horace Silver’s “Song for my Father”.
Well, first of all, Rikki is not a "he." Love The Dan! Peace.

Please react to -My Old School
This was their biggest hit I believe but to me every song was a hit by steely Dan
Jim Gordon on drums
You’re getting into some serious music with this one here
Oh No, what went wrong?
You cut off before the solo?!?
I would consider this to be jazz pop
It's classified as ROCK but some call it Jazz-Rock-Fusion.
Why do I get on UA-cam everyday hoping tat you do another Steely Dan reaction?????
Video ended at 4:51.
please re-load reaction if possible, thanks
You know the reaction cuts off before the song is over?
You accidentally the upload my dude.
YOU CUT OFF THE SECOND HALF OF THE SONG!!
Looks like you lost the number to this song😂. I hope you can fix it.😊
Is this song not about copyrighting....if you write a song and address it back to yourself by letter you can claim ownership of it????
Thumbs down for me. The second half of the song is missing. Try again.
This isn't one of their "pervy" songs. It's pretty straightforward.
"Our little wild time had just begun"
"I have a friend in town, he's heard your name, We can go out driving on Slow Hand Row"
"You tell yourself you're not my kind, But you don't even know your mind"
Look up suggestions to what "Slow Hand Row" means.
Wtf?
I honestly always mix this up with a Phil Collins song.
Huh? Maybe you're thinking of Don't Lose My Number, which is lame compared to Rikki.
This song now sounds like it's sung by Linda Belcher to me. Too much Bob's Burgers.
