A woman I dated in the late 90s was really into the grunge music scene. I introduced her to Steely Dan and she was instantly hooked. No one really sounded like them and their music continues to capture new generations.
I was 18 in ‘73 when Can’t Buy a Thrill dropped. I’d heard Do It Again on pirate radio in London and got the album. Been a Danhead ever since, and so has everyone I turned on to them. Perfection.
Honestly I've listened to this song a bazillion times and I never concentrated on the lyrics either. And this was the first album I listened to on my newly purchased Technics turntable ... in the 70's
Nice to see someone appreciate Steely Dan like I do. Music is a bridge to companionship and camaraderie. Their music travels time. As always nice reaction. ✌️
Your my new favorite music guy. Glad I found you. Aja is a great album, if you want to hear the coolest groove on that record listen to Home At Last, and pick up on Bernard Purdie's smooth shuffle on the drums. My favorite song on that album.
There is a live version of Josie by the boys on the David Letterman Show. Stellar Walter Becker solo. Well worth checking out to see the live Steely Dan in action.
Babylon Sisters, Rikki Don’t Lose that Number (solid hit, a most popular song), Black Friday, Deacon Blues, Your Gold Teeth……..you’ll see plenty more suggestions!
Always loved the rhythm section and guitar on this but never appreciated the song itself until hearing an acoustic duo doing it in a small bar at a local ski resort. So much to listen to on their songs that the writing can get overlooked… glad you got it. Josie must’ve been some home girl
Steely Dan really applied the funk to this tune that closes the "Aja" album. This album is the gift that keeps on giving since it found its way under my Christmas tree in 1977. Nothing approaching a dud track in its seven songs. You Got it!
Another SD nugget. But they all are. Jesus, every time I hear another of their "oldies" it's like hearing the song anew. These guys and the musicians they surround themselves with are incomparable.
Is very early where I’m at, and this song makes you get on your feet and dance hahah …hopefully I don’t get kick out. Great reaction to a fantastic song
Well the only tune that even comes close to being bad, and it isn't really bad, just no vocals. The song is "East St. Louis Toodle Lou". Its about a club over on the east side of St. Louis that was famous, Mike McDonald, who did a lot of backup singing for them is from St. Louis. The club was "the Blue Note".
Hey dude, fix that blasted cold. Glad to see you are sticking with "The Dan". The years roll by and I can always count on whatever album I put on by Steely Dan, I will still always be happy. Just in case you didn't know, Fagan also cut 3 solo albums that are in the vain of Steely Dan, and well worth the listen. 🎸🎸
We all had a 'Josie' in our lives - or you just didn't have a fun youth! The Alpha Lady from the old 'hood who loved to party down whenever she made it back to town. The track that precedes this on the album is I GOT THE NEWS, which I always presumed was also about this 'Josie' character (...slow down, I'll tell you when - I may never walk again...) LOL.
I’ve watched almost every SD first time listeners that appear on my home page and then follow up of others they have watched. I don’t know any of them who didn’t love their music and stay in the rabbit hole! Like we all say, it’s their music and not any specific genre!
Another great Steely Dan pick!👍 Surprised you haven't played their biggest charting hit yet, Rikki, Don't Loose That Number. Give it a listen. Thanks.😊
as with a lot of bands when asked your favorite song it changes with the day . this one is my favorite more often than any other one by Steely Dan . on another note - have you looked up how they got their name yet ?
Best SD song???? I can't even keep my top 5 straight. I hear this and forgot how good it is and say that has to be top 5. Then I look at my top 5 and say what do I take out, The Royal Scam nope, Babylon Sisters nope, Black Cow nope. Oh well, how about top 6.
Funk meets punk meets jazz with bad-ass results. Another Steely Dan classic. Wait, they all are!

This song is straight fire. Pure perfection.
Love Steely Dan! Another great one. Thanks! ☮️💙😎
Another funky masterpiece from Steely Dan! Loved your hip little dance when the main riff resumes. Lol! Great reaction!
Honestly I've listened to this song a bazillion times and I never concentrated on the lyrics either. And this was the first album I listened to on my newly purchased Technics turntable ... in the 70's
Larry Carlton on guitar, Chuck Rainey on bass, Timothy B. Schmit backing vocals. Say no more.
Chuck killed on the bass
Only the heavy hitters, man!
Nice to see someone appreciate Steely Dan like I do. Music is a bridge to companionship and camaraderie. Their music travels time. As always nice reaction. ✌️
"Lay down the law and break it."
I love that line!
I love your reactions to Steely Dan! I was a teen during a lot of their songs, and in those years this music hits you right between the eyes!
WHAT an era.
We were so damn lucky.
Just think this,in 20years time,Gen zee will look back to today and say”aaah, the good old days”
😳
Definitely one of the Great Dance songs.
The great Jim Keltner on drums. SD always has a rock solid rhythm section, they love their drummers!
I've been waiting for you to get to Josie!
Credit where credit is due - another great guitar solo by underrated Walter Becker.
DUDE glad you loved this but you gotta check out “I Got the News” and “Home at Last” also, same album. You’ll love them!

Perfect reaction. I'm a music first, lyrics 2nd kind.

Love the guitar riff
I love when I find a new funny cool reactor and I can go back and see all the good songs they've reacted to
Another SD nugget. But they all are. Jesus, every time I hear another of their "oldies" it's like hearing the song anew. These guys and the musicians they surround themselves with are incomparable.
Another belter from "The Extraordinary Men Of The Groove". Give Green Earrings a listen.
Night By Night!
Is very early where I’m at, and this song makes you get on your feet and dance hahah …hopefully I don’t get kick out. Great reaction to a fantastic song
There's no such thing as a bad SD song! Would love to watch your reaction to "Time Out Of Mind"! Thanks for another great reaction! ✌💙✌

Don’t worry about lyrics yet just dig it and vibe . Been listening to it for decades still get lost in this pocket or that .

Everyone wants a gal like Josie in their life...!
Another great Steely Dan pick!👍 Surprised you haven't played their biggest charting hit yet, Rikki, Don't Loose That Number. Give it a listen. Thanks.😊
I can't recommend HOME AT LAST ENOUGH !!
Excellent tune!!!
Knew you'd love this one! Rarely reacted to...
GREEN EARRINGS by SD, off Royal Scam.
as with a lot of bands when asked your favorite song it changes with the day . this one is my favorite more often than any other one by Steely Dan . on another note - have you looked up how they got their name yet ?
Do Teahouse on the Tracks next bruv,it’s a really groovy jazz/soul jam with angels for backing singers.
Thank me later.
🔥
Time out of Mind
Yes! Time out of mind is in my top 3 or 5. He also needs to do Pretzel Logic
The story behind this song he would love!
Steely Dan dance videos. LOL
Guitar lead (solo, outro) by Walter Becker.
Peg is the next song you need to do by them
FM (No Static At All) - same timeframe but not on the Aja album.
Yes, he did that one....one of my faves.
Green Earrings

You still have to check Hey Nineteen!
❣❣❣
Hydrate man!
Gotta hit Donald Fagen The Night Fly
So your bag is the 1977 Steely Dan.
they have a song called "black friday" maybe do a reaction on black friday with that song. it's got a great groove and is more of a funk/rock song
Maybe you need to find a version that shows the lyrics?
Take care of that cold..you've had it a bit too long.
Please stop using that old box set compilation for your SD source and use the latest individual album remasters. That box set is speed defective.
Rikki Don't Lose That Number
