- Recovering from a disastrous medical emergency, Greg finally reaches Vancouver Island and hits a BIG SALMON run, catching and cooking some huge juicy fish! His adventure leaves him weary, so he STEALTH camps in a parking lot, hoping to avoid law enforcement and security while he gets some much needed sleep.
Greg is a self-taught survivalist from Canal Flats, British Colombia, who, since he was a boy, has read nearly every book on the topic. When he is not out in the wilderness, he is a professional dry-waller. He started his first bow drill fire when he was thirteen and spent the next forty years learning bushcraft and studying plants and edibles. He has even developed some of his own survival techniques and is a skilled hunter with both a bow and a slingshot.

As a BC Flyfisherman, fresh and salt water, that fish 'minnow' you caught was a Staghorn Sculpin....also I would suggest getting rid of that 'Mooching Rod' and get an appropriate 9,'6" to10',6" foot long Salmon and Steelhead 'River casting Rod' and make sure it's got a cork handle, also with funky way you cast, you'd never master an appropriate 'Casting Reel' like a Shimano!
I guess just stick to that monster 'Spinning Reel' but you'll never get the control out of it as you would with a Casting Reel and good-luck if you hook on a 40lb. Chinook with that setup you got.....lol.....anyway, have fun Greg.

Glad you got one . I'm heading down to Hatteras in north Carolina outer banks. The flounder season finally opened up so we are going gigging. I have been catching the hell out of them down there but had to throw back 25 inch flounders. I would of had to catch a few more for the smoker . Firing up the smoker for one to hell with that.

Nice fish Greg ! some times it's tuff to catch one forsure. But you can eat good tonight - also motels can be dicey. The same thing happened to me once. Now I go in with a magnifying glass and really give it the white glove going over.
