Greg is a self-taught survivalist from Canal Flats, British Colombia, who, since he was a boy, has read nearly every book on the topic. When he is not out in the wilderness, he is a professional dry-waller. He started his first bow drill fire when he was thirteen and spent the next forty years learning bushcraft and studying plants and edibles. He has even developed some of his own survival techniques and is a skilled hunter with both a bow and a slingshot.

Yes… I love watching Greg but I was getting a bit frustrated with him, saying he hopes Amos doesn’t lose it, or he hopes he keeps trying… while he could be trying at the same efforts. I don’t know, have had mixed emotions in this challenge. Not sure if things are off with Greg during this challenge. Hope to see a turn around by the end. Gotta fight to survive…

That's what I like about these challenges, as much as everything is *astoundingly beautiful* scenery, the experience is still wearying, getting good nutrition and rest and they don't shy away from showing that. And these are two all around good dudes! Man, after 5 days with a rumbling stomach I would become a nuclear level prick, I daresay. Something to be learned watching this! Good stuff, thanks for putting this together, I cannot imagine the effort on all levels to do this.
Finally a normal response. Who cares if people think this is just “for show”. It is but these guys rough it regardless of whatever supplies they bring. At least Greg never cried on camera like Joe whatever his name is from Alone 🤦🏻♂️

I love your videos and even though you haven't done well fishing lesson for everyone to learn. No matter how good you are everyone needs help sometimes. We as humans think of ourselves as indestructible and independent but nature demands order.

Good going guys. I was stationed at the Air Force radar station at Holberg twice during my career in the Air Force. We used to go out to Grant Bay, Raft Cove many years ago hunting for Japanese glass fishing floats. In them days it was many hours of bush walking to get to the ocean. Brings back many good memories.

I love your videos Greg. Don’t get to bummed out about catching fish. The great thing is, you both can share knowledge and advice about these things. Amos knows fishing and primitive hunting weapons, you know trapping, fire starting and foraging very well. Sharing knowledge and thriving is what its all about. 🤙🏼
You're right on trapping, but, as I said earlier, for some reason (maybe certain things are "protected" in BC or wherever he & Amos are?) He's not setting up snare or other traps for smaller "game" like say squirrel or rabbit?
Even those if caught could take the place of an uncaught fish?
Even those duck if not protected would be tasty if caught, cleaned & cooked?
Difference is that Amos don't give up. Greg just gives up and says "we not catching any fish" and then Amos catches one because he kept trying.
Greg also casts wrong, and doesn't seem interested in learning the right way, which would give more distance and more fish. Which in turn brings the confidence to keep trying.
@@eventsotherthingswithchris9019 you have to have a trapping license in B.C and you also have to be a resident to get it, and you can only hunt duck with birdshot between Oct 8, 2022, to Jan 20, 2023 this season

Hey professional bush guys. Get a set of kayak wheels, hook them on the yak, then use it to transport you gear. If you had two sets of wheels, (which I know isn’t practical) but bear with me, lol. Then each of you would have a rolling cart for your gear. Love the channel, you guys make a great team, just funning! Greg has a great sense of humor, Amos’s energy (and fishing ability) great attitude, make for a great challenge. Thanks guys for all that goes into sharing your adventures

On the hammock: throw out the Daisy chains. They stretch like crazy!
Purchase some treehuggers (the long ones ) from dutchwear with chinch buckles.
Keep the angle between the tree and the treehuggers about 30°
You should be having a better lay and sleep.

This trip is brutal. Don't feel bad Greg, you are a great fisherman. Remember when you beat out Zach? When this is over you need to take a bushcraft free vacation somewhere without any bugs.We really love watching.
I have to wonder if their hands stink and are tainting the lures or something. Maybe Greg just pets the dog more than Amos and the scent is getting on his tackle? Last I checked fish don't eat dog, and salmon have a good set of nostrils on them.
Greg your challenge is hard, but one thing Finn didn't agree to go he is a pup that even on your ADVENTURES he needs your love and care. Just throw the stick and keep on doing YOUR THING. I see you sitting around and Amos gettin it done. 🙏😏

I think Greg is feeling his age a little more on this 30 day challenge. More tired, a little grumpy. I think he underestimated how much Zack built and did on the last one. But it probably didn't help that he was sick the whole first week. But he's still a legend in my book!
Greg ovens is a god when it comes to bushcraft and survivalism and we all agree that him and Zac has pushed alot of us to really embrace the nature that we've been trying to for awhile and the same goes for making content, just humble people living life! props to you greg!

Its the perfect example of the psychological phenomenon of
Bystander effect...
because Amos is there, just being there with a line in the water- Greg does not feel the pressure he would if he were All Alone. So he doesn't fish. But he does get fures,fires, tea, berries and all the other stuff.
Same Bystander effect goes for their mishaps with the food and coffee- A dog provides some measures of warning and safety, so careless/forgetfulness caught up with that bag from the camp stove being left out like fear and caution had left the camp...
Wonder if that cold/ flu they shared had any brain fog residual affects like co-vid us said to do sometimes 🤔.

Okay. Great tip from Me: If the Fish is close to the sore ,just get te line and pull it backwards on to the sore as fast as you can 😉. It works. Now i see why you always loose your fish 😉.
I've never heard of no see ems before but in England we have something called the biting midge which I presume are the same things. They are torture and if you have hobbies like me gold panning and fishing it's almost impossible to be next to water in the evening without some sort of protection even if you are used to them. I've got a midge net that goes over my head which really works well and it stays in my pocket. Also there's a moisturizer spray which works until you sweat called Avon skin so soft. It wasn't designed for biting insects buy is now sold as it. You can even get one for mosquitoes now. Both the net and the spray are really cheap and you can buy online if anyone wants to give them a try.❤️💛💚 Ps I really think you should of made a net with paracord and wood at the beach. It's not fun and games when you need to land that fish to survive so best not taking any chances with no net. Most of the fish lost is at the waters edge and it makes sense having a net in there to pull the fish into.

Personal locator beacon. Check it out. Some have a satellite phone option. Pretty valuable tool when your in the bush or on the water. Worth every penny when it’s your last option.

Hard to say from home. But salmon is very hard to catch. Amos keeps trying the whole day payed off. I think that's why he is catching because of persistance. You are lucky he is with you 😁

Technically, any fish can become hard to catch.
Some involves how "buggy" it is & if the fish are gulping those insects down; if so, they may not bite @ whatever you have.
Some it seems could maybe see you on the shoreline & avoid you but jump all over the place to make it seem like they're playing mind games with you, there's other reasons too.
