Another way to know if the system has not been scanned before: switch to system map immediately after honking. If number of bodies displayed is not on par with the number detected by Discovery Scanner, or if only main star(s) are displayed while you’d be supposed to have more content then there’s definitely a FSS job to be done.
Played the game for probably 500+ hours now and I had no idea that bodies turning up immediately on the radar, means that they've been scanned and handed in to universal cartographics somewhere. This has become my go to game to play while I listen to podcasts, audio books and albums, and while that is really enjoyable, I do feel like it's meant I've not paid close enough attention to some aspects as I probably should have aha, these are great videos, learning new things!
My dude, I appreciate you so much! I just got the game a few days ago and between mining, dog fighting and transporting cargo I realized that what I like the most about this game is just exploring the universe, entering planets and sight seeing for a little bit, the problem was: I didn't understand anything about it. These two videos have helped me so much and I appreciate that a lot. Fly dangerous, commander. o7
Welcome to the galaxy, CMDR! Exploration in Elite is a special experience. My "Out There" series is a weekly showcase of some cool places to explore in the galaxy. Each location is listed in the video description and on screen during the episode. I wish you well on your new journey! o7!
I am slowly getting back into the swing of things. My asp is 350 jumps from the bubble. My advanced docking computer is broken. Apparently since I played last there was a module added to the game which would let me fix a module but I don’t have that so… thanks to your videos I am now back in the swing of jumping scooping and scanning. I retook the basic flight tutorials and really want to try to land on a planet. I have decided to try to get back to the bubble and update my stuff before heading back out.Wish me luck commander. Tell my wife I love her.
An interesting approach might be to talk about different exploration ‘protocols’ for different aims… For example, are you just trying to cover distance to reach a target? Then follow procedure A. Are you searching for biologicals/geologicals? Then follow Procedure B. Looking to make money? Procedure C, looking for screen shots? Then D….etc. For me personally, setting aims and choosing a ‘protocol’ is useful… Right now I’m out exploring with my carrier. Heading toward a ‘base camp’ system… lots of different protocols in play. As always credit to you for the well put together content Mr. Exorcist.
Thanks for these, been about 3 years since I played. looks like quite a bit has already changed. Hoping to get back into it once the Powerplay stuff comes out.
I’ve been playing for about a year now, been seriously exploring for a few months. Still learned something from this video. I had no idea you could turn the plant in the system map.
Thank you! I'm glad you picked something up from the video. It took me forever to figure out the atmosphere rotation thing. The map can be really complex at times.
The number 1 thing I tell people in my Squadron when they ask WHY I explore the galaxy in Elite Dangerous is this: All the things in this game are either transitory or temporary.. EXCEPT being the 1st person to discover/map/first footfall a new system/planet/moon. Being the 1st person to discover something is permanent.
Awesome vid... I found out the hard way that 'Elite' status in any of the fields just means that you have completed 'basic-training' and are 'Now' ready to begin the game. I'm learning things already in your beginner series as an Elite pilot lol... I would guess about 75% of the stuff on that right screen I have no idea what it means..... Tidally-locked?? huh? metallic vs metal rich... what? EDO is such an underappreciated simulator.
Hi Commander, I've been to ED since the beginning in 2014, so nothing new for me in here. But I have to tell you that you've had explained all features very well. This should give some newbies a hand for exploration to dive into the unseen. For me it tooks about 6 months to get back to the bubble on my longest journey, which can be documented on EDSM for later rewies.
Ex, these are amazing. I'm not much of an explorer, I think the only thing I've done is the Colonia Highway and the occasional Guardian site. But this is really giving me juuuust the start of that itch to get out there. I can really sense your passion for this in your guides. Keep up the great work! o7
Really good guide Ex. My tip would definitely be to use the FSS image guide as well, get to know exactly where everything is in the scanner. Going to send this to a new player we work with as think he'll find that really useful and also inspiring. Can't wait for part three now.
Played a bit in the past and thinking of jumping back into ED. Never done much exploring just a bit of mining but debating if i should get odyssey before heading out?
I am still trying to outfit my ASPx and I have already ran into that disheartening distances just from missions getting sent to stations 645k ls from the initial entry into the system 😂
I have two Anaconda builds. THIS is the current build I'm using in Odyssey: s.orbis.zone/k9vo After the console transfer, I'll share my original/engineered Guardian build as well. o7!
Hello thank you for the video. I saw in other videos they fire probes to map the planets is that unique to odisey and how and what you need to do? Is this after you use the advanced scanner and then you travel to a planet of interest? I only have horizons. Do you have a guide for it?
So i noticed in civilization systems if you find a sample complete one then sell it it makes 1 million credits. Do i have to go further out to make more cash on biological samples?
Different biologics make different amounts of money. Plus, you get HUGE bonuses for being the first person to scan a biologic on a planet surface. Definitely get out of the Bubble to scan flowers for the best payout. Also try using EDDiscovery and EDObservatory third-party tools to help you find the best payouts.
@@CMDRExorcist i did better today made 165 million on 5 samples, with two planets being myself the first to set foot on. Some 500 plus light years from civilization, near a nebula sheron system i think and a couple of star systems down south and back towards civilization. Next time i am going further.
I’m on XBox with Horizons and had been waiting to go on lengthy exploration trips when space legs was available with Odyssey. Now that I will not have chance to walk on worlds, given your past experience with Horizons, do you feel that it is worthwhile to explore in Horizons? Or does Odyssey bring more enjoyment to exploration that Horizon can not match since exploration in Horizons is not the more complete experience?

This series is so exactly perfect for what i was looking for. Fantastic work my man
Hope you're still out there exploring, CMDR! o7

The basketball super saiyan gets me every time. Love that guy.
Good lord this is an epic piece of tutorial, really appreciate for making something as awesome as this!!

Nice primer for the more complex stuff to come. Thanks Ex ;)
This is a magnificent aid. Your enthusiasm comes through and you've pitched the content at just the right level. Cheers Exorcist. 😊
This video series is a great recap for me. I played years ago and stopped at Sag A. Coming back, I definitely needed this. Thank you.
This is so helpful! Seeya out in the black!

@@CMDRExorcist I was swearing at mine in VR last night for that reason.

Hey man. Just dropping by to thank you for the crash-course on exploring! This has helped me to grasp what the hell I was even doing while exploring.
So awesome to hear! Thanks for the feedback! Best of luck out there! o7
Great pace - great voice - and yes - beneficial. Appreciate your work on these videos. Thank you. o7

Agreed! Elite status is just the tutorial. :)

Awesome vudeo CMDR. Got some nee things that I have never used when Im out there. Cant wait to use them and for the next video!
Fleet academy professor. 👍
fantastic informative video mate
Love your guides, great videos.
Thank you, CMDR! I'm working on more to be released soon!

I want to endorse your diction, overall sound quality, and editing. It was comfortable for a foreigner to listen at 1.75x speed. Excellent work, dude!

Yep. But some of those cargo runs are very lucrative!
Cool series! I'm out in a Phantom now. Can you post your Anaconda build?
I have two Anaconda builds. THIS is the current build I'm using in Odyssey: s.orbis.zone/k9vo

Why does some music play when you arrive at some systems?
Because music plays when you reach your destination system.

The scanning probes were introduced in Horizons. It's called the "Deep Surface Scanner".

Yes. There's still plenty of cool stuff to see in Horizons!
