If u never had the emotional safety modelled by your parents growing up..u ve rejected and surpressed your emotions and your mind has grown to associate emotions with pain and fear as u ve been conditioned to avoid them..so when as an adult you experience them (coz emotions never go away) u do get overwhelmed and engulfed by them which means u cant be in control or be responsible for them as they ambush you like an avalanch by a way of neuroception. U need to have a disclaimer here that what u teach doesnt apply to those who suffer from emotional dysregulation due to their adverse childhood experiences.

We not only create our emotions but also our physical symptoms. Negative emotions cause stress on a cellular level. It's a step further and for some people to far off but you might ponder this 😊
Having two people in this discussion really helps to clarify what is being discussed. My parents criticize, compare and judge everything and everyone, but most of the time it's very insidious and it was okay because they said they loved me, supported and praised me as long as I stayed compliant. No wonder I stayed with my ex for so long, I thought how he acted was love. This really has helped me balance loving my inner child and not allowing it to wallow in the sad story it was told growing up.
You nailed it in one, trying to control an outcome to feel safe , wanting guarantee that a relationship will work out, not be painful, judged or criticized.
I do believe that I create my emotions. Other people might have had some contributions; in the end of the day I still create my emotions and I can control it by turning on or off. Thank you for your insight.

This is helpful, thanks! When I think emotions are bad, I want to either think I'm a bad person or blame another. When I accept my emotions and understand why I'm feeling that way, I either learn that it's a subconscious trigger or possibly someone is trying to not honor my boundaries. I can either feel through the emotion without over thinking it or reassert my boundaries. Trying to describe to myself why I'm not bad is like opening a can of worms, I'm just learning that.
On the issue of being vulnerable, I think it means being honest. And if two people are honest with each other, it's likely they will see some things differently. Differences are good but they can also be awkward.
I want to believe that I create my emotions, therefore I can decide to stop hurting myself, BUT, my inner child is making a tantrum, she doesn't believe it, at all, 😉. Thanks for your great videos. It's
In modern society, it is everyone's job/responsibility to treat all as having emotional fragility because of unknown/unspoken traumas of their past. It seems to not be the responsibility of the fragile person to deal with their past, rather the responsibility of everyone else to treat others as if they were fragile.

Hi David and Alex another great teaching Alex you was so intercepting in this teaching great team work. Yes I was experiencing this exactly the other day the self talk started and it went own for a whole 2 days and then I could not sleep concerning a relationship. I knew it was my inner child Black Beauty so the next day I begin my parenting skills you taught me David I begin to talk to Black Beauty I ask her what was wrong with her she said Mommie I am scared and worry we will be hurt by this situation and I begin to talk to here and I told I love her don't be afraid everything will be ok and work out in our favor and for her to calm down she listens and everything is find now David I knew it was her creating a😊red light feelings and self talk you have taught me so much David ❤ Thank you!

I understand it all. Yet going through it right now. I know that I create my emotions with my thoughts. Now thin is I am being ghosted by a man I've been very close with... it is hard to create a positive thought about it, as being ghosted I have difficulties understanding. Constantly with the why did this person decided to vanish? I know it is there free will and they don't owe me anything.... How do you create a positive feeling about somebody suddenly act as if you never existed. Rationally I feel good enough, I know they just choose to not connect anymore with me for whatever reason. Yet I have difficulties to just act as if nothing happened. I am vasciliating between, sadness and anger,
Hey Nathalie, I came across this comment and wanted to say that it's never about not feeling the anger and sadness etc, you are allowed those feelings! The healthy way is just to not wallow in them and create more pain by contributing to them with bad thoughts. Because you are the only one responsible for what you think and how you want to perceive your situations. I don't know whether this will reach you or not, but I do hope this will help someone who relates to your comment :)

I feel distrust and as you say my thoughts go automatically in all directions. I now know I’ll have to communicate to understand what has really happened… Very hard to not have thoughts when many ‘clues’ lead to negative thinking! I’ll take your comment as a sign of the universe 😊 I need to listen to this video again and I’ll need to communicate with my BF later today about what happened and my thoughts… this without being emotionally active. I think this would be a healthy approach, to tell him about your struggle (if you feel safe to do so). I agree that we create our emotions but how do we let go after a loss? I lost a pet and think about her a lot. I lost some relationships in the past that caused me to cause myself great suffering. What if for whatever reason (OCD, maybe) we just don’t seem to be able to stop ruminating. I get i cause my own suffering - how do I stop? For now, I just avoid relationships because dealing with me dealing with the loss is too much.
