You obviously didn't forget to paint the flames, that's obviously the black fire of Khorne that burns within the Brass Forges where his War Machines are made
@@TheLichsLaboratory My personal technique relate to this and I call it the 50/50 to 25/75 split and works especially well for marines/chaos marines due to most units using a similar build pattern. Basically, you have two broad categories: the 'generic' parts, which is what most of your army uses, those being your base legionnaires or basic marine infantry parts and the 'fancy' or 'iconic' parts, which are bitz you sourced from either other kits, third party or something. -You want most models in your army to have about 25 to 50% of their parts be from the fancier bitz, usually using more/less of the more unique parts depending how much yo want the model to stand out, but you always use at least a tiny bit of the more unique parts even if its just a single pad or backpack. -An easy way to spread parts is being ruthlessly efficient. If you are building a veteran or chosen with a gun across his chest? Don't even bother using a fancy body or converting the chest, instead apply the fancy bitz elsewhere, like helmet/backpack/pauldron. Save the bodies for HQ and/or models whose pose exposes more of the body itself. In turn, on these models you can use more plain helmets or backpacks here and there because the kitbashing % is used elsewhere. Obviously its not a hard and fast rule but it help save juicier parts. Then break the rules once in a while just for fun! -Once you are done using this technique, each model in the army will be unique BUT there will be enough recurring elements/parts to unify the entire army into a cohesive visual whole. For chaos, this creates a very disparate and, well, chaotic army but one where nobody really feels out of place.
Nurgle frens and Khorne frens are those weird but strong friendships where a rage-filled nutcase and a chill stoner are united by shared interests, like being the last two guys left at the party (Terra) and crashing parties (Vraks) or just being the more…… practical of the four cult legions, literally just being reforged by their god into more durable/berserk warriors instead of being mutated into birds or being coked out on Terran. I loved in the Siege of Terra how there were feral kill-squads of mixed legion makeup, I choose to believe that some of those DG and WE became bros and Vraks was a “HEY BUDDY!” moment.

The Cleaved showing up to the Khornate crusade: "Who invited my man blud? Bro thinks he's on the team." Honestly though I like the idea that the Cleaved might have some affinity for Khorne on top of their main Nurglish alignment. The whole existence of Chaos Undivided forces shows there's no reason you can't vibe with more than one Chaos God at a time, and Khorne and Nurgle aren't directly opposed to each other. The fact that their "thing" is their weird blood is something you could also relate back to the Blood God, at least partially.

I wasn't too sure about the whole 'sponging' technique, but after watching each model's paint job come out looking so unique i think i'm going to have to give it a try. The Sanguine Sons and Brazen Guard models were easily my favorite conversions, the Brazen Guard looks better than most of the current 40k chaos range, great work dude! Also, more of the knights? 👀Yes please!

My biggest mistakes usually stick out after publishing which help me not repeat those mistakes in the future
Nice, just when I was hungry for another 2 hour video to put on the background as I draw, I get another Lich's laboratory video. The marines you made with the dudes that more or less have one sentence of lore to their name is honestly the best of the bunch since its more creative than the standard Khorne warbands of red. The Brazen guard being the best of the bunch in my eyes, makes me want to draw a Brazen guard of my own now.
Only about halfway through watching the video right now, but if you ever want to do more Khornate kitbashing, I'd recommend looking into the Khorne Daemonkin warbands. There's some neat stuff there, both in regards to color schemes (only one of them doesn't have a known color scheme) and lore. The Wrath are my personal favorite of the bunch, I enjoy their color scheme and the fact that their lore is "They have mass cannibalism events after battles and decorate themselves with bones and skins." They're emulating a Bloodthirster with all this.
Having now watched the full video: God DAMN these're some great kitbashes. Love how the Sanguine Son turned out in particular, I've a fondness for the Greater Possessed models.
Khorne may not be their primary god, they’re only chaos undivided, but I have a feeling this may give me good ideas for my homebrew Chaos Space Marines, the Fury Watch. They’re fallen blood angels so as I mentioned on your community post about this video, Khorne is always breathing down their necks because of the rage and the thirst letting him poke their souls.
@@TheLichsLaboratory The big idea that inspired me to make them is that they will firmly be chaos undivided but I'll make a bunch of khorne berserkers to basically be the result of their corrupted death company! Their leader is their former chief librarian now a sorcerer, just trying his best to keep everyone from losing their heads to the geneflaws and flinging themselves into the embrace of khorne only, though he does still give him heed.
Talking weird color schemes with the Blood Storm, I've seen some of the more Oldhammer types paint Khorne Rhinos with red version of the Woodland Camo scheme. Frogskin camo in Khorne colors would be crazy to see.
Painting trim after sponging the plates is peak technique. Having to base paint (with a brush) to cover the trim color THEN sponge the plates is bad mojo. Or maybe this Shaaneshi player likes the pain of painting trim by hand. :)
I think that the Angels Apocrypha have a lot of potential. Instead of these bloodthirsty berserkers, they strike me as duelists that value honor and discipline over blind rage. I love the idea of a chaos warband that leans into the lesser known aspects of Khorn.
Its kind of wild to see how many warbands are name dropped in lore that just have nothing going on for them. Though at this point you could probably run all of these guys in a killteam and get away with it, or most heretical of all, run every space marine you've painted in one of these batch paints in one enormous conglomerate army.
I like the concept of the Goremonger paint job because I doubt Khorne followers would put much effort into their armor and making sure it's in tip-top shape
1:49:12 Angels Apocrypha also sound like a khorne/slaanesh mix, I think the more dueling oriented rapier-like swords and long hair is very reminiscent of emp's children, and one of their unnamed characters managing to land a hit on a named space marine protagonist probably means they are good duelists; flanking is also not really something berzerkers do intentionally so that could speak to them being more of a hybrid of the two even though the gods hate eachother (I think that dynamic could be really cool in a story as they struggle to skirt the line between both) I do really like the black as both gods and their respective marines do use black, but maybe a mix of brass and gold could be cool (brass with gold trim maybe) I really like the look of it though it turned out great, and stealth khorne sounds really cool too, blood storm as glam metal and then to slaanesh is also cool but we need more unholy concoctions of khornesh
That's a pretty fair point actually! Maybe AA leans towards Khorne and Slaanesh' shared love of dueling but still leans Undivided. A lot of potential ways to interpret it!
@@TheLichsLaboratory I was thinking of like stippling a metallic gold and silver then putting a red contrast paint over it... I wonder how it would go. I like the Stipple effect, it actually looks like how chaos marines looked in the dawn of war games.
Love the sponging effect you pulled off on the WE, it looks really good. I am now curious to see how far it is possible to push this on a marine (in terms of how fine it is possible to make the texture and such)
I imagine a finer sponge would get an even smaller grain but the best best best option may just be a tiny brush tip and a few spare decades of time lol 😂
@TheLichsLaboratory it's mostly the space that I'm concerned with tbh, but I did see the bits being sold on etsy, and I might buy a few just to test them out. Thanks!
All of them are great. though for me the Sanguine Son and the Bloodstorm models are the ones that leap out to me. I like the Thunder Baron too, though I personally would have paired Power Fist and Power Sword/Daemon Sword for extra OTT excess (as they seem to be a faction that is very much about the bling, and swords are traditionally seen as 'noble' weapons).
Very true! But like, I'm running out of power swords?? I have chain weapons for days but I have less than 3 power swords around here for some reason 😂😭
One quick point on an otherwise solid video. Soul drinkers books, the first omnibus shown and redemption contain the same stories, redemption was a more modern reprint of the series, annihilation is the modern reprint of the second omnibus. So it’s 6 stories over two books. Daenyathos and the newest novella weren’t included.
Man I do love a more conservative Nurgle aesthetic. Genuinely love the Heresy DG scheme and the Cleaved model here was smashing. They sound like a super interesting warband too!
I think my ideal Nurgle marine is pretty much just a regular marine with a headswap and super grungy, maybe an organ or two hanging out. Maybe I'll do a Nurgle focused video like this down the line and figure out what I like lol 😂 But thanks for watching man, I appreciate having you here 😁
I considered releasing these in individual vids but most of my existing and new audience like a single big video. I have segmented these vids out into UA-cam Shorts before but their performance was pretty lukewarm, but I still may do it for more outreach
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH IM ON FIRE AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAthanks man, hope you enjoy it 😎
Side note, 1:22:19, there is a GBA FE romhack called Call Of The Armor that has an armor mage main character. Unfortunately, not every character is an armor knight. :(
Maybe I am wrong but I thought Skulltakers had, a black chest and a white helmet well in the Khorne Daemonkin codex I thought that was them shame I tossed that Codex.. Oh and FINALLY THE CLEAVED! Edit: The Warband I am thinking of is called The Wrath. My old KDK paint scheme :) Edit 2: for Skulltakers: I find inks mixed with metallic show the flakes more then acrylic. Since Ink it self is translucent
Well I really like the look of the Angels Apocrypha. Also the power rapier looks good: don't forget Everything is Marine scale so a rapier is going to be freaking huge and as a thrusting weapon with a 5 ton marine behind it needs to be chonky
If you have another one of those backpack trophies that you used on the skulltakers you should consider using it as the actual head of a deathgaurd character, the exposed skull face could work really well if painted up as some I lost my nose levels putrid syphilis flesh tone, and the impaling spike is very reminiscent of the old metal deathgaurd mini's helmets. So for your white and red idea for the Red Heralds(a Khornite war-band Imperial Heralds/pre Lorgar wordbearers?) what about priming in grey stippling on a white then sponging on blood for the blood god, then filling the panels back in with a white? Heck if you can find the best undercoat for blood for the blood god you could do a standard world eater that way then go in with the metallic trim. Your Sanguine son looks amazing, love the use of the age of smegmar arm, I could easily see letting all of the skulls or any severed heads if you had used a different backpack also have the glowing green eyes... also that guy with a jump pack would be terrifying as a raptor captain or jump pack lord. As far as your thunder baron goes, I think a gold and burgundy would work really well if you wanted to go just a touch more red on the armor, also maybe if you had doted all the eye sockets on his trophy racks white and then gone over them with that blue that could have tied the top third of the model in a little better. Also dumb non wysiwig idea but what about putting a giant thunder hammer or AoS stormcast hammer being held in the powerfist? As for the brasen gaurd what about getting a beastman head(maybe one of the older more statically posed ones) and just painting it metallic? Or maybe some 3D printed Chorf heads could work. I could really see some dark eldar weapons for the angels apocrypha, they have that lighter faster more vicious thing going, and if you clipped one of their swords off just past the hand guard and then attached it on top of the chain sword motor it should have a good length for what you wanted here.
A lot of good points bro. Will definitely have to steal of these ideas for some potential bashes in the future. I do like the idea of AA being Night Lords with stolen Deldar wargear lol
But hindsight also has that time period where I back didn't hurt constantly and I didnt feel like a massive disappointment so I think I could tank through covid for that 🤔
Okay... Okayokayokay... Love them!! - ya just hooked another Subscriber... (Totally agree about the Red/Black - Black/Red Stripes for the Blood-Stormer)

Took three sittings but I got through another banger of a video! Fantastic work man!! 👏
Always appreciated man! Thank you for the support 🙏
The Cleaved are great, awesome bunch of guys here.
Glad you like the batch, man. Thanks for watching 😁
25:00 very good idea to choose that head
I knew SOMEONE in this batch had to use this dope ass head 😅
Nice, just when I was hungry for another 2 hour video to put on the background as I draw, I get another Lich's laboratory video. The marines you made with the dudes that more or less have one sentence of lore to their name is honestly the best of the bunch since its more creative than the standard Khorne warbands of red. The Brazen guard being the best of the bunch in my eyes, makes me want to draw a Brazen guard of my own now.
Thanks man, and go for it! I'd love for someone to push the Hashut/chorf aesthetic a little further
That Angels Apocrypha model is cool. I love the exposed arm. Also, it took me 4 attempts to spell "Apocrypha".
Your honesty is appreciated, friend 🙏
Damn i loved this book!! Fleshing it out for me, that's amazing! Keep up the good job, man!
Yes sir 😁
I think if I ever do a god-focused event like this again, I'd like to cover the other three, but I'll definitely keep this in mind for the future! 👍
@@TheLichsLaboratory Fair enough! There's definitely good stuff out there to do this with other warbands, for sure.
My faves in this vid: Skull Takers, Thunder Barons, Brazen Guard and Blood Storm
My fave: you 😳👉👈
Khorne may not be their primary god, they’re only chaos undivided, but I have a feeling this may give me good ideas for my homebrew Chaos Space Marines, the Fury Watch. They’re fallen blood angels so as I mentioned on your community post about this video, Khorne is always breathing down their necks because of the rage and the thirst letting him poke their souls.
Sounds like you could easily slide into the Sanguine Sons territory lol
@@TheLichsLaboratory The big idea that inspired me to make them is that they will firmly be chaos undivided but I'll make a bunch of khorne berserkers to basically be the result of their corrupted death company! Their leader is their former chief librarian now a sorcerer, just trying his best to keep everyone from losing their heads to the geneflaws and flinging themselves into the embrace of khorne only, though he does still give him heed.
@@TheLichsLaboratory ALSO i loved the Thunder Barons! (because its an awesome final result, not just because im also a Fire Emblem nerd! xD)
"jerking the bit off" hahaha perfect description of what was happening on screen. That Thunder Baron cape does look great. Awesome video!
Talking weird color schemes with the Blood Storm, I've seen some of the more Oldhammer types paint Khorne Rhinos with red version of the Woodland Camo scheme. Frogskin camo in Khorne colors would be crazy to see.
Interesting! We really dont see a lot of camo in armies these days unless it's painted on a stealth unit or if that's their dedicated scheme
Painting trim after sponging the plates is peak technique. Having to base paint (with a brush) to cover the trim color THEN sponge the plates is bad mojo. Or maybe this Shaaneshi player likes the pain of painting trim by hand. :)
IT HURTS SO GOOD 😎
I think that the Angels Apocrypha have a lot of potential. Instead of these bloodthirsty berserkers, they strike me as duelists that value honor and discipline over blind rage. I love the idea of a chaos warband that leans into the lesser known aspects of Khorn.
Definitely! More discipline and reservation as opposed to bloodlust and battle rage
Man I've only watched the first mini so far, but I really need to try sponging, that looks SO good.
Mate it's so easy. You'll have the tech down in 10 minutes max, I guarantee it
@TheLichsLaboratory thanks for believing in me! Do you still thin the paints as much?
Its kind of wild to see how many warbands are name dropped in lore that just have nothing going on for them. Though at this point you could probably run all of these guys in a killteam and get away with it, or most heretical of all, run every space marine you've painted in one of these batch paints in one enormous conglomerate army.
I have genuinely considered this 😂 Just name the whole thing Chaos Undivided or some shit. Would give me an excuse to paint up some vehicles at least
@TheLichsLaboratory at that point you paint up the Knights of Gold Chaptermaster. The world must see what sort of eyemelting sight that would be.
Just found my new background painting channel for my upcoming week off work 👍🏽
I'm honored to accompany you, amigo 🙏
casually dropping a 2+ hour video full of chaos glory - awesome !
Praise the Dark Gods! 🙌
You can show us the mixture for Space Marine Juice all you want, but we know you’re really getting it from stolen geneseed glands.
I'm actually milking it straight from the marine 😳
im a simple man, i see a lich in his lab and i like
Instructions unclear, misplaced Lich outside lab, Lich ran off and got lost. Left some food out for him but it's been a week and I'm worried
I like the concept of the Goremonger paint job because I doubt Khorne followers would put much effort into their armor and making sure it's in tip-top shape
Goremongers maintenance routine
1) Put on the armor
2) ????
3) Why are you not killing people??
Thunder Baron looks incredible cool, serious drip.
Thanks! I cant stoop oogling it lmao 😁
Thunder Barons look so good I would love to see how you would do the higher ranked members and make them even more opulent
Even MORE heads. And TWO wagon wheels, god dammit 😂
Hell yeah I needed this. I actually made a legionaires kill team last week from old chaos marines and need to figure out how to paint em.
and jfc that thunder baron had so much drip
Good timing on my part then 😂
@@TheLichsLaboratory I was thinking of like stippling a metallic gold and silver then putting a red contrast paint over it...
Damn that dragon warrior looks really damn good, and it's making me want to get a 3d printer.
If you can't afford one or don't want to maintain it, I've seen Scylla Legion bits printed and sold on Etsy as well!
@TheLichsLaboratory it's mostly the space that I'm concerned with tbh, but I did see the bits being sold on etsy, and I might buy a few just to test them out. Thanks!
Oh shit syclla legion, got a squad of those guys acting as my chosen in my AL warband. Really cool to see them here.
Honestly a really nice kit. I'll definitely be looking more at Dakkadakka kits in the future
Now THIS is truly awesome!
I dunno man, Crossfire is objectively more awesome than this. It has a theme song 😂
I like this the idea of warbands aligned with specific gods but not the OG legion has always been intresting to me
There's definitely a lot of untapped potential there
these . are . sick! - you have totally given me ideas for my own warbands!
that Goremonger is absolutely exquisite.
Another banger to be sure. Ironically I think the Red Heralds are my favorite. Very different look for World Eaters but I like the more reserved pose.
Very good! The Thunder Baron is awesome
🤟🏼⚡💀
Much appreciated! 😁
BRO‼️ The algorithm totally yanked you from my feed‼️ I feel like I haven’t seen my buddy in forever, & you just popped up❗️ lol 🤙🧐
Hello friendo! 🙌 UA-cam's subscription page and notifications are so borked so I dont blame you lol
Holy fuck that brazen guard scheme is dope
Isn't it?? Cult of Paint really came through for them lol
@@TheLichsLaboratory i absolutely love the look of recess shading, it makes models stand out so much.
Maybe I'll do a Nurgle focused video like this down the line and figure out what I like lol 😂
But thanks for watching man, I appreciate having you here 😁
Love these vids, the using grey knights bits advice a few video was so good for my blackshield project for hh
Glad to help! 😁
The pose on the sanguine son Is sick as hell
The Greater Possessed sculpt is doing all the heavy lifting on that model, honestly. It's just plain awesome 😅
Always dig your videos man. Keep it up!
Much appreciated chief! 👍
Awwwwww yeah 2 hours of Lich bashing. This Sunday just got lit.
Time to crack out those paints and get comfy bro 😎
Now that's some good minis. Thunder Barons definietly top it for me.
Good choice amigo 😎👍
I hope you re-upload segments for more views - your content is awesome as always.
I considered releasing these in individual vids but most of my existing and new audience like a single big video. I have segmented these vids out into UA-cam Shorts before but their performance was pretty lukewarm, but I still may do it for more outreach
Boom! This is fire, thank you!
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH IM ON FIRE AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAthanks man, hope you enjoy it 😎
lucky how a chaos astartes vid drops right when im about to start a chaos astartes army
Luck? No. I've simply been stalking you and observing your every action. It was pretty easy from there 😎👍
HOLY SHIT, IT’S REAL. Thank you very much for this, Lich.
Side note, 1:22:19, there is a GBA FE romhack called Call Of The Armor that has an armor mage main character.
Unfortunately, not every character is an armor knight. :(
I live to serve my audience 🙏
Maybe I am wrong but I thought Skulltakers had, a black chest and a white helmet well in the Khorne Daemonkin codex I thought that was them shame I tossed that Codex..
Oh and FINALLY THE CLEAVED!
Edit: The Warband I am thinking of is called The Wrath. My old KDK paint scheme :)
Edit 2: for Skulltakers: I find inks mixed with metallic show the flakes more then acrylic. Since Ink it self is translucent
Gave me a momentary heart attack, like "oh shit did I paint the wrong warband??" 😅
Well I really like the look of the Angels Apocrypha. Also the power rapier looks good: don't forget Everything is Marine scale so a rapier is going to be freaking huge and as a thrusting weapon with a 5 ton marine behind it needs to be chonky
That is a fair point. Being hit my an Astartes rapier is probably like being stabbed by a parking lot bollard 😂
Good dark angel head for the skull taker but there were no primaris or mkX helmets during the siege of Vraks. :)
True, I considered using a Mk7 head but I figured "eh this is already on a spike and I'm running out of Mk7s" 😂
@@TheLichsLaboratory steal away, I'd have to be a real dick to be all you should blah blah blah and then get pissed at you for doing it.
Hindsight may have been 2020 at 59:44, but that's where covid dwells too, so probably best not to go back. Another excellent set of minis yo.
But hindsight also has that time period where I back didn't hurt constantly and I didnt feel like a massive disappointment so I think I could tank through covid for that 🤔
The brazen guard look exquisite
Okay...
Okayokayokay...
Love them!! - ya just hooked another Subscriber...
(Totally agree about the Red/Black - Black/Red Stripes for the Blood-Stormer)
Glad you enjoyed the vid, friend 😁
I REALLY want to see some Night Lords stuff from you
Night Lords would be a pretty fun project 😁
Unofficial day 2 of asking for marines from The Last Wall Protocol.
In all seriousness, great work 👍
Jesus Christ, an entire Last Wall Protocol project would be gargantuan 😱
...but the idea intrigues me 🤔
@ Multipart series perhaps? I would be here for it all day long
We need more warbands who are dedicated to hating one specific chapter/planet/organisation. Like we got The Punishers who are for some reason hellbent on destroying the Dark Hunters chapter.
Stupidly specific factions are one of my favorite types lol
The sponging gives a nice texture to the armor. Now i whant to try it in some chaos sm (i do not own a single one 😅)
It's time to get some Chaos models. Praise the Dark Gods! 🙌
