I’ve always loved epiphone because they looked out for the “little guy” but the head stock alwwaaayyssss kept me saving for my gibbons, but now that they changed the head stock; what an absolute game changer. I almost shed a tear when it caught me off guard at my local music shop. Well done Epiphone. Well done Ray.

so you would pay 1000+ dollars more for a gibson just because the epiphone head stock was missing the top corners???talk about snobbery

The price a person decides is fair for a guitar has largely depended on brand loyalty and marketing/image, for many years. It's my belief those ideals are changing more recently with the massive influx of excellent quality imports and sub-models. You just dont need to spend 2k+ to get a good electric guitar anymore.

When I started playing guitar again a few hrs ago (after about a 20 year gap from when I was a kid), I can't express how much epiphone really helped. To be able to get my hands on a Ebony Les Paul custom pro used for a few hundred bucks was huge in keeping my appetite wet to continue to learn and play, because it looked felt and sounded so darn good compared to when I was younger and you basically got a crap piece of plywood in that price bracket. Since then I have been lucky enough to have several Epi's including the bonamassa sig gold top, their limited 1960 V1 a 1969 mij genesis and most recently their new 1959 Les Paul (which is insanely good!!) Really appreciate the vid man, great licks and great points! Rock on 🤘

I've just bought a Gibson Les Paul 60s Standard after having Epiphones for several years. The Gibson are not worth the money over the Epiphones, they are slightly better, the pickups have a bit more clarity, but the are no way worth 4x the price. That silver burst is stunning, they need to bring that to the UK and i'm getting one!

Depends on your circumstances. If you are jamming in the garage, gigging in local bars, or don't have the best quality amps, 110% Epiphone is the smarter choice. FAR more bang for your buck. You won't notice the tone difference between Epi and Gibson in a noisy bar with shit acoustics and a cheap PA.
Gibson, for my money anyway, will always be a studio guitar. It's a precision instrument for a precision environment. In a studio setting, tone is king and small changes in tone have massive impact. THAT is where Gibson shines.
It's all about getting the right tool for the job you're doing.

Just bought the "Black Back Tuxedo" version of this guitar and I'm pleased with it. You actually get more for your money IMHO with these than some of the other Epiphone LP's in the same price range. Triple ply binding on the body and head stock....bound neck...Tone Pros bridge and saddles....Graphtech nut ...ebony fretboard....mahogany body and neck. I spent about an hour polishing the frets and setting it up. Plays really nice now. I agree about the pickups...they aren't great but they aren't terrible either. I have a Seymour Duncan Pearly Gates bridge and a '59 neck set that I pulled out of another "project" guitar awhile back. They will probably find their way into this guitar at some point. I think these are definitely worth the asking price....show them a little love....and they will scratch that Les Paul itch without draining your bank account.

Curious to see, and not trying to persuade you to do ANOTHER "cheapest gibson vs most expensive epi" vid like everyone else, but would be curious to see you run the Gibson Tribute against even this guitar on the heavy side. Everyone else is more classic rock to clean-ish sounding, but knowing you, you'd find a way to make it a true heavy showdown lol.

How well do they stay in tune? I’m looking to buy one to use live, but I gotta make sure it won’t go out of tune mid song

I just bought a standard 50s les Paul in gold and I’m blown away with how much guitar you get for $600. Feels better than any Gibson I’ve played and don’t regret it for one second

I also just got the 50s goldtop a few weeks ago. Amazing guitar. Epiphone has turned things around so much in the last year. I also have a Gibson LP classic from 2003 and it holds its own against it.

I came for the chug and rock out, but stayed and listened more than once due to the beautiful, soulful slow tune @7:07. 🙂👍

How do you like the set necks on the LP? You’ve mentioned in previous videos that you prefer a bolt-on, as do I. It’s hard to find an LP with a bolt on unless you go with the really low end Epiphones. I’m curious how you feel about it as I’d definitely like to get a LP sometime in the near future.

Epiphone pickups suck but the les pauls are so good if you get a good one! Polish them frets and swap the electronics and you'll have a work horse that will last forever! I love mine :)

hey man I have been watching you channel lately and I'm thorn atm. Can you help? I was about to go get a gold top standard epiphone for 600$ canadian but then I saw on musicians friend, there is a silverburst just like this one with 9% discount on it.. So the silver burst would come at 1270$... It is a lot more but it's new and in silverburst. My goal was to get this to get a similar one to Adam Jones. Anyway, which one would advise to get? Is the custom worth it over the standard?

Do an experiment, take it to a really good tech and have them give the frets a good once over, round the edges, level and crown, drop a bone or tusq nut and a pickup swap and see how your bang for buck comparison is after that! Fret work makes or breaks a guitar and Id be super keen to see how your opinion changes after some TLC!

I have this same guitar and I filed and polished the frets and sanded the fretboard from 400-1,000 grit then oiled it well. I also adjusted the truss-rod and the action. No joke, it took a pretty good guitar that already sounded great to the next level, it plays like a dream.

And a proper setup with string height and the bridge. Strings must be on the saddles not in the back part of the bridge like they are with a stock epi

I think Epiphone is doing a pretty good job with their signature guitars. Owed a jerry cantrell both prophecy and wino and now have an Adam jones. Love the AJ 🤘🏼

Thanks, Yea, I'm buying one and I'm going to tamper with. Played pro for 20 years and then got deep into live entertainment production and got away from it. In my semi retirement days I want to get back into it. I have amps all over the house. Old tube amps. I have a PA and lighting system adequate for small street festival and larger clubs. I always wanted a tremolo but was more of a humbucker guy so thanks to Dusenburg I'll be trowing a les trem and locking tuners on on it.

serious question how many times did you have to retune it to record that song. i own one and love it but that tuning stability....

Just bought one. Immediately swapped out the pups and bridge (Stew-Mac roller) and was real happy until at rehearsal during some leads, the high E string went over the edge of the fret board and kept getting stuck under a tiny gap between the 5th fret and the fret board! The fret work on mine leaves a lot to be desired. There's gaps on more than just the 5th fret though not as bad. But all the way up and down the neck, you can feel the sharp edges of the frets which haven't been well finished into the board / neck. Nope, it ain't a Gibson by a long shot. I've already modded the electronics, so there's no sending this one back. May need a total refret which on something like this axe may cost up to $500....

Dude you got that at the Wilmington GC? Holy shit.. that’s the guitar center I’ve always gone to. I haven’t gone since summer last year maybe, I gotta there again because I can’t find that silverbusrt one anywhere online, even Epiphone’s website. Wonder if they’ll start releasing them more later this year.
