    "when all you gotta keep is strong move along" man this might be the biggest nostalgia trip yet. and yes, tony wedgwood pronounces it in-NAI-ka, so that is the correct pronunciation

      I mean he also pronounced lewa as "lua" in the 4 minute retrospective so..

    • @Pyovali
      @Pyovali 2 роки тому +6

      I think it depends on the language. It doesn't make any sense to pronounce it like _In-NAI-ka_ in any other language except English. I think that's where the alternative pronounciation comes from.

    • @PlasticToa
      @PlasticToa 2 роки тому +1

      I feel like I tend to use the In-NAI-ka pronunciation to refer to the in canon toa team and use In-NEE-ka when referring to the build style they used.

    • @Luka1180
      @Luka1180 2 роки тому +2

      I believe canonically it’s ee-nee-kah or ih-nee-kah. I have a good argument for this, too. You can’t trust everything in the spoken or visual media. I mean, he also says loo-wah. Early on in BIONICLE almost all official pronunciations followed a sorta Polynesian style, and later everything became way more anglicised and inconsistent. But it seems that Matoran should honestly follow a more Polynesian-style phonology as it did early on. Also, words like Lewa are literally pronounced the way the official pronunciations are in their respective languages. Lewa is Hawaiian btw (yeah, that’s a non-Māori word), and they say leh-wah or lay-wah and never lee-wah or loo-wah.

    Fun fact: The Inika's weapons are intended to be throwbacks to the Toa Mata/Nuva. Jaller's fire sword, Hahli's hook/harpoon, Matoro's broadsword, Nuparu's claws and drill/saw thing, Kongu's axe/bow thing, and Hewkii's sort of hook/axe thing. They're not all a great representation (Hewkii and Kongu), but the attempt is definitely there. It created a really cool progression in the Bionicle Heroes video game where your starter weapon was the base Mata weapon, and the final weapons were the Inika's weapons. They were properly colored and everything, so the heritage was much more visible.
    Also fun fact, they're all guns lol

  • @zeratul____1228

    I love how over equipped Nuparu is, which considering how he was an inventor it makes sense. Like he has his claws for close range combat and digging, his hands free Zamor launcher mounted on his shoulder like a predator, and his weapon not only has a laser sight but its also a two hander which we can take as meaning it has more power than the others. Along with all of this he can fly with his mask power meaning he can dominate air combat.
    Like this dude prepared for war, and he went out to fuckin win it.

      I never had any of the Inika set, but I think Nuparu is the all around best looking one of the bunch, better weapons, claws look awesome, and his mask was the best looking, and his armour and colour scheme too.

    YES! These guys are my favorite! Hands down the best Toa team in all of bionicle. I genuinely think they are the most overqualified toa in the story. I’ve loved these guys since they were matoran they truly are the best toa because unlike any of the other teams they knew how to work together as a team and they learned from the mistakes of the toa Metru and the toa Nuva. Jaller is in my opinion the best leader and one of the best toa he’s used to leading others into battle ever since he was a matoran fighting rahi and chose to listen to his fellow toa and never allowed himself to lose control something the other toa of fire always struggled with (also he’s my favorite). Hewkii and Hali two champion kohlii players and gifted athletes, Kongu another great leader and military strategist like Jaller, Nuparu who was a master engineer and brilliant thinker, and Matoro oh Matoro. The one who felt like he never fit in who was forced to be an outcast because of all the secrets he knew and not to mention all the things and tests the mask of life and his time as a toa mahri would put him through. Not to mention they were fighting an enemy that easily wiped out their hero’s they looked up to and were in a deadly race against the clock with a dying universe. They are the best!
    Sorry about the rant I just really love these guys.

      I loved these characters ever since they were Matoran and the MNOG and Bohrok animations allowed them to show their chops and let the Matoran be heroes too. (And of course, Jaller in Mask of Light.) I only wish Macku had been allowed to join! I mean the Toa Mangai had like eleven Toa, including four Toa of ice; two water Toa would have been fine... (I know the actual reason is Lego wanting to keep it to six sets, but still...)

    Those marbled pieces on Hahli and Kongu really sell the vibe and the motion of storms and wind, like Hahli is like white crashing waves or like a bright, stormy night with shimmering streetlights, and Kongu is like the wind sweeping across him so fiercely it just looks silver and white.

    Hewkii was my pick for the Voya Nui Online Game. So unique of a design. I loved his color scheme, mask, and the differences from the previous stone sets. I always had him grapple onto Kardas with the chain to fight him.
    The Inika in general were a really good group, but I loved the individual minutiae that separated the characters (how they held their weapons, melded color schemes, the different torso shapes, the unconventional armor colors). It really set them apart from previous sets and paved the way for what was to eventually become Hero Factory and G2.

    Finally, my favourite Toa are getting reviewed! I personally am not a fan of the rubber masks, I know that they are supposed to lookd and feel weird, but so are the Hordika, and I don1t like them either. However, I love the build. It's very simple, but looks very good. And the weapons are very cool too! Could be a bit more diverse, specially with the zamor launchers, but they look different enough to look good. As you said, they look very organic, they really feel like they are humanoid individuals. The melding pieces look gorgeous, specially on Hahli, with that seafoam look they give her. Speaking of her, the coolest thing about them is just that: We know them. They are not some characters we were strangers to until now, they are the same little guys we followed since 2001! Matoro, Jaller, Hewkii, we all know them, and know how they were never just matoran, they always were special. Brave, smart, wise, strong, special matoran. Seeing them becoming Toa is surprising, but not strange. Of course Jaller would be a great Toa of Fire, he's the bravest Ta-Matoran out there! They all always felt like they were something more than just villagers. It's awesome, even heartwarming, seeing them become these amazing heroes and save the world. So yeah, I kinda like them, could you tell?

    Ah... The Inika, perhaps my favourite Toa team. I have a fun story on how I got Inika Kongu. Back in 2006 I only had Piraka Hakann and 5 out of the 6 voyatorans, of which I was only missing Piruk. So naturally I've asked my dad if he could get me "the green one", but he got me Inika Kongu instead, and while it wasn't what I've asked for, it was truly an unexpected surprise to finally have a Toa to call my own, a rival for my Hakann and a protector for my matoran. Eventually one of his balljoints from his shoulders broke off, no idea on how that happened. I wish I could get them all back, but where I live is a tad bit hard to find these old toys. Only once I found a complete lot of decently price Piraka, but quickly sold out before I had a chance
    Also in 2:02 you can see it a tiny bit flashing blue, just barely.

    One thing that the Inika really improved on over the Toa Metru are the knees. They can't bend backwards on these models, which was always something that really bothered me about several other Toa (including some that come after the Inika). Perhaps that's not as good for MOCs, but they're great for the base models.

    Yet another reason Bionicle 2006 was high art, a soft-soft reboot of the early years where the next generation that washes up on shore is non other than the McToran, who's eye pieces and gnarly rubber masks make them look animated and organic. Instead of uniform silver, primary color with grey color schemes they break all the rules and give them different color effects: Hewkii is a gunmetal rock monster, Jaller and Matoro have ice and lava bones, etc. And what better way to represent their lightning infused powers than strobe lightsabers that are still identifiable as specific toa tools

    I have the 6 Toa Inika, every day when I arrived from school I'd look at them, helped me drain the stress.
    Also got all 6 Piraka.
    And many sets from 2002 - 2003. If all goes well, I'll buy the 6 Toa Mata soon, my budget is getting there, slowly.
    My first bionicle set was Matoro, a christmas present from my Grandmother.
    It took me a few years to rebuild them due to my younger brother and cousin damaging my sets the one day I forgot to lock my room when I went to school, my father came home to pick me up a bit late that day due to some stuff at his job amd my mother never learned how to drive, I was so worried about getting late that forgot to lock the door and give my mother the key
    It made me feel quite sad to get home to that disaster, I literally felt sick and had to sit down, I was sweating as if I had a fever.
    All my Barraki were broken by them, except for Ehlek that broke on his own due to the lime joints, only Kalmah and Pridak survived and were rebuilt, the others were too damaged or parts were lost.
    Bricklink saved my sets as I was able to buy replacement parts (still need to get new claws for Nuparu, the ones I have have bitr marks).

    I loved Bionicle Heroes when I was a kid and these toas were always surrounded with mystery for me
    "What is this game? Why the doors? Wow there is a jail!"
    And more Lego mysteries too
    "How do the heads work? I love the shooters! Those swords are so cool! CHAIN PIECES????"
    I wish I could get some old (or even "new") bionicles, but there aren't any where I live, not even online

    I gotta say: for me, I'd say Bionicle in the years 2006-2009 was their apex at the time. REALLY enjoyed those sets at that set of time.

    When the swords of my Matoro and Nuparu figures died out, I was incredibly sad, because they were easily the best part of the figures. My dad saw how bummed I was, so he pulled me to the side, showed me how to work a screwdriver and taught me about the different types of batteries that exist. He's a mechanic, so he has spares upon spares of extra gadgetry, including all kinds of batteries. So after teaching me this, every time the swords died out again from then on, I changed them without any problems. Me, a 7-8 year old at the time, already an aspiring mechanic!

    This set was so cool, the Voya Nui line was really good and I really enjoyed the stories. Unfortunately this was also the last set I was into before I fell out of Bionicle for awhile.

    These were the first of two complete teams of Toa that I had. In this video, the three positioned on the left I found in stores, while the other three I obtained elsewhere, but all were obtained within the span of three monthes. Nuparu was my first of these, while Hewkii was my last. Hewkii is also significant as he is the first stone-associated Toa to not wear brown armor, and coincidentally marks the debut and only appearance of several pieces in gun metal, including all of the pieces introduced with the Inika as a whole. He also marks the debut of the Toa Metru hip piece and the Visorak double socket joint in Keet-orange (flame yellow). The shoulder armor in black, and in the melded/"tie-dye" Metru green and Metru blue are exclusive to Nuparu, Kongu and Hahli respectively. Hahli in particular was my 25th Bionicle set overall and is also the last Bionicle set to have the Visorak double socket joint and hand socket in white, though the latter of these appeared in a "Mars Mission" set (7697) in 2007 before being retired. All of her "tie-dye" parts are exclusive as well. Nuparu marks the first of two sets to have the Visorak double socket in "medium stone" and the torso piece introduced with Inika would appear the most often in black after this. Jaller's hand socket and Visorak double socket joints are exclusive to him in transparent bright orange, as is his chest armor in the then-new shade of "warm gold". The Zamor sphere holder in Metru red (New Dark Red) and in white are also exclusive to him and Matoro respectively. Matoro's chest plate is exclusive to him in silver, and he is also the final set to have the Vahki leg in white. The weapons of four of the Inika were exclusive to their respective sets, but the "Laser Axe" and "Energized Ice Sword" from Hewkii and Matoro also appear in one of the Titan sets from this year. Though it was originally only in the September/October 2006 issue of Brickmaster, there was one Combiner for the Inika called "Toa Jovan"-which combined Hahli, Nuparu and Hewkii. The other three strangely never had a combiner model.

    This isn’t the sets that I came into the world of Bionicle with, but I was old enough to understand the story. I would use the computer to see what was up, and even got the comics with the Lego magazines. These are my favorite cause I deep into Bionicle with these.

    I view this team as the beginning of Toa/canister-set-variation-as-norm. There were a couple notable exceptions theretofore, such as Pohatu's torso build (the Mata in general ironically broke the mold a bit from the very uniform canister sets that would come after them) and the varying leg molds of the Visorak, but the Inika marked the beginning of a clear design intent with the canister teams. From here on out, it was clear that each character in the set was meant to be entirely distinct -- in body shape, method, toolset, etc. From the disparate chestplate designs, to the tie-dye pieces, to the blade/blaster stance variation, to Hewkii's chain blade, to Nuparu's CLAWS AND SHOULDER CANNON! And it only took off from here. LEGO really was upping the ante twofold with every passing wave in this era. What a time it was.

    About the swords, I believe LEGO went with the "blinking sword light" decision in order to prevent children from making swords quickly run out of battery life if they forgot to turn them off after they were done playing

    I had the entire team back in 2006. In order I got Kongu, Hewkii, Hahli, Nuparu, Matoro then Jaller. I know the downside is that they are all clone sets but that's kinda why I love them because they all felt the same and I didn't have to adjust my playing style with them, not to mention they were just a different color scheme throughout. The amount of articulation in them was top tier, unlike anything I've ever played with before.
    everyone else's favorite heroes were the avengers or the justice league…

    Watching this is such an amazing throwback, Hahli and Nuparu were me and my sister’s first bionicle’s. It is a shame the pieces were too brittle (from our experience), both of the bionicle’s ended up having broken limbs. I still have Nuparu’s sword somewhere, so at least there is something left. Also, the way they did the heads on the Inika is very interesting imo, although I am not a huge fan of them.
