I do remember that you could replace the batteries in the brain piece. If you flipped it over, there was this small crack that you could kind of pull out with something hard, like metal, and then replace the battery; which is a small GP Lithium Cell (CR2032)
there are also 2 combiners wich use 3 and 3 piraka, they are official and look just like irnakk, i think they where sold in South Korea! its a great way to have some kind of irnakk build without spending a tremendous amount of money in the special spine! GREAT video Chris! loved it!
it aint easy, but you CAN replace the batteries for the light up eyes, it just uses one CR927 battery and you need a teeny tiny flathead screwdriver to pry open the little slots
Man, the Piraka were revolutionary for Bionicle as a whole in my opinion. Not only did they deviate from the "drone" aspect all non-titan villains before them had been given, replaced now with a sense of individuality which ultimately makes them far more interesting as characters, but they set the standard for all following villains to come in the line, and mark the point where Bionicle began to take itself more seriously than it previously had - this ultimately being what I believe the climatic peak of the theme as a whole. I was lucky enough to grab one of these guys (Thok) brand new for 27 dollars online a few years ago, and fondly remember the excitement of coming home after having finally received him in the mail, and building him - needless to say, my expectations were quite exceeded. I ended up having to put him away in a storage box somewhere for some time, but a few months ago my mother was able to find him again, and I can say with great pride he now stands on my display shelf where I've spent many times posing and playing with him, never ceasing to enjoy it even all these years later. Though flawed to some extent, these sets truly were fantastic.
As a kid, Bionicle was my FAVORITE thing, so it was the go-to gift for me every gift-giving occasion. And around my birthday or Christmas it was the usual routine that I would get the full set of six current canister figures (I was very, very lucky in this regard). When I got the Piraka around my 13th birthday, I was left alone that evening, and I built all six of them in one go because I was so excited. My mom was less than pleased. In my humble opinion (though I know I'm not alone), this group was the milestone that signalled the most important change in the main Bionicle character design, which had slowly been building since the Rahkshi: specfifically the pivot into the three-piece torso, hinged-limb design, as well as future reliance on the ol' reliable Metru head mold. It blew my MIND. It was revolutionary, though perhaps not as big of an immediately-obvious, all-at-once change as the Toa Metru. They laid the groundwork for the future of Bionicle, both in set design and overall tone. I wish they had brought back some of the colors used here, specifically the pastel "secondary" colors used on the socket bones of Zaktann, Vezok, and Avak. If they had given us more of Zaktan's foliage green (I don't remember the official color name) in future sets, it would have been my favorite color. And man, when I tell you I used the glowing eyes in ALL my MOCs for a while? Hoo, boy. What a frickin' squad.
"...if your eyes work *and* you have the teeth glowing in the dark, it's a pretty cool look if you ask me." -AllOutBrick, 2021. I love these vids. Been meaning to get better acquainted with the lore of Bionicle for years since I grew up on it, this channel is awesome!👌
The inika and piraka have slightly different upper torso molds, causing one of the pin spots on the piraka torso to be filled in and thus needing to make them shorter due to the design. So depending on which way you build connect the lower and upper torso parts signify if its a piraka or inika build. An example of this is the mahri jaller and.kongu sets. Jaller uses the inika design, being taller, while kongo uses a modified piraka design (due to his shoulder connections) making him stockier and shorter.
5:50 - The batteries actually are replaceable, you just need to open up the piece with a very thin flathead. I got a Piraka used recently, and I was able to replace the battery after just a handful of minutes.

These were my first complete team of canister-sized villains. Vezok (blue) was my first, while Avak (brown) was my last. Both of these along with Zaktan (green), I obtained at Toys R Us, while the other three I obtained elsewhere. I remember getting Hakann (red) from a book store near me on a field trip at the end of my second grade year on Thursday, June 22, 2006. These were the first canister sets to not have a gear function, and the last to come in a cylindrical or oblong cylyndirical canister. From this point on, canister sets would become more pose-able and less clone-like to each other. The new piece that is used for the right arm on these in Metru red (New Dark red), Metru green (earth green), and the new color of "reddish brown" are exclusive to their respective Piraka. The lower leg pieces in the first and third of these are exclusive as well. The knee armor on these in reddish brown is exclusive to Avak. Interestingly, due to historically low sales of brown-colored sets throughout the first five years of the theme, Avak was the final Bionicle set to be primarily that color. Reidak (black) and Hakann also mark the debut of the Toa Metru hip piece in dark stone and "Mata red" respectively. Vezok and Thok (White/light stone) mark the debut of the double socket joints from the Toa Metru in sand and medium blue, and that piece in sand green, sand yellow and Mata red are exclusive to Zaktan, Avak and Hakann respectively. The same goes for the hand socket and Visorak double socket joint in sand green and sand yellow. The webbed feet used on half of them is exclusive to Avak in reddish brown, and Zaktan marks the final appearance of the Toa Metru lower arms in Metru green. Along with the "Lava Hawk" and "Dagger Spider" combiners from the Voya Nui Matoran last week (which are the last to use the red/brown/green and blue/black/white combinations), the Piraka are the final sets to have combiner instructions in the backs of their manuals, though none of the three here are canon.
Wow Colin, that is absolutely LOADED with incredible information! First off, the specificity you have in your history with the sets is fascinating, I can tell how much it meant for you to have a full set of canisters for the first time! I also had no idea about the exclusivity of some of these colors and molds, thank you for providing so much extra information!
@@AllOutBrick You're very welcome. In fact, 2006 was the year of Bionicle that I had the highest number of sets from, missing only five (Two of which were minifigure-scale) Between the Piraka and the Inika, a "semi-Titan" set was released as a Wal-Mart exclusive (At least in the United States) called "Irnakk" (8626). It's technically a combiner of Vezok, Reidak and Thok, but it comes with Thok's spine recolored in gold along with some Technic corrugated tubes in gold. I wasn't sure if you would be covering that before the Toa Inika.
Yo yo Piraka. The best villains next to Barraki. I was so pissed off when they were fused into this Golden-Skinned Trash Being that can make dreams reality. Zaktan shouldve gained these powers rather than an entirely new character being made out with them out of six other popular characters.
These look a lot better than I remember, especially Hakann with the gunmetal torso, and those faded colour limbs, especially Zaktan's. I remember liking the frog feet of Zaktan, Avak, Thok, too.
This show is at Cobra Kai level when it comes to having respect for the source material. You really know your stuff about bionicles and I'm looking forward to seeing your reaction to sets you've never seen before
Thank you!! So much of what made Bionicle special was the lore so it only feels right to give it recognition. And we're REALLY close to the point where I'll be experiencing new sets. I had a few from '07 back in the day but that was the end
These guys are the best. My favorite villains bar none, and the start of individual canister villains. 2006 is when character personality shone and grew brighter by the year.
these guys were super special, probably because they were the first non hoard villains. the bohrok, visorak, vahki, and rahkshi were all groups of almost identical villains. these guys were actual characters.
I’ve used Zaktan’s wing blade weapon (X2) and managed to make a pretty cool wing/wyvern look to one of my Rahi ideas, and now I’m currently just trying to figure out what the head and beak will look like.
This is one of my favorite waves, but “frustrating” is probably the perfect word to describe the rubber spine pieces. I’ve always found it unsatisfying that the horns they have in their silhouettes are just behind the head rather than part of the head itself
This series is the highlight of my Monday’s! You are killing it! Do you plan on making a final video at the end of the series ranking the sets from lowest to highest rated?
Thank you! Love hearing the positive impact this has on what is oftentimes the low day of the week! There definitely will be some sort of finale type video, I'm not 100% certain on it yet, but have a few ideas
I love them I love the dual function weapons, which suit their respective element. They look menacing and do have great playability. The spines, while terrible for articulation and do warp over time, give them the individuality and menacing look
Something I'd say is note worthy with the Piraka is that with exceptions of Avak and Hakaan, the melee weapons seem to be quite fragile. The axle connectors on them were subject to wear and tear very quickly, to the point that my Thok's weapon lost it's axle within the year it was bought. This is mostly my personal anecdotal evidence on the matter, but I feel like it's worth mentioning.
By that time I was missing the gear box, but they had so much new stuff and personality that it didn't matter. I can't say say the same for the new Toa.
Loved these sets. They felt so individual and full of personality, this enhanced by their comic releases. One of these lads vs a toa felt so much more dramatic than toa against just another swarm enemy.
Thank you for the review. I had every color but i could never manage to get the red. I begged my mom to get it back in 06 I remember collecting the ones they gave out in every kids meal in McDonald’s !
i get what you mean about the spine piece. yet the arm part of said piece is the only issue, if it was only the mask & spine till tailbone i doubt there would be many issues. i would also like to mention the spheres can rest on the canisters lid in those 2 small divots beside where the eye-button is located.
@@AllOutBrick unfortunately my ice variant(cant remember his name) has had his foot break(phil connection). that and because of the subtle change in the white, replacement parts for the common connections(arms & legs) are very noticeable and same with the wave's toa i bet.
These guys are the only group where I had all the sets. Got Irnakk at one point and coincidentally it included the 3 Piraka that I didn't have. Love these guys. The Zamor launchers were probably the best projectile launcher in the series.
Zamor spheres are still one of the few bionicle parts still used today actually. I believe bohrok eye parts are used in some sets, and the barraki eye is used a lot for vehicles like tow trucks and stuff that needs a strobe light esque design the eye has.
Great review! The Piraka have always been some of my favorite villains in the series. Also you can replace the batteries but you need to pry the case open with a small tool like tweezers or a small flathead screwdriver, so it is possible, but it's a little hard to pull off sometimes.
The "two weapons in one" feature always had me excited for a new one of these. The concept was fascinating and ended up maturing into love for another series later.
I absolutely love these guys, it's interesting how despite being super edgy, they still fit within the world and it didn't kill the franchise because they had so much personality and charm in their scumminess.
I sure hope I can add these guys to my collection eventually, I love the character designs present here. The builds are awfully samey for my tastes, but man those heads give them so much personality, they're a ton of fun to draw and render as characters.
From here on I was a full stop in the history of the BIONICLES. A body design had already been established. But all generations have always had amazing designs!
I can't see the issue you have with the colors. All Piraka have unique color schemes, and some unique colors we never saw before or after like sand green, dark tan or very light grey. And with the chest armor and weapons, they have 3 different metallic colors, the other villains and toa before where all dark grey and silver. I'd like to add that the combiners from the Matoran of Voya Nui are the greatest combiner sets. The dagger spider and specially the Lava hawk are very cool.
The weapons did bother me in other sets though. In sets such as the Vahki I stated that the weapons all being silver were a disappointment and that they all blended together. The Toa Hordika having different colored weapons was one of the things I really liked about them. I really liked the monochromatic colors in the Metru and it could've been the same here
@@TymaDem have you opened it yet? Ehlek was my first Barakki in 2007 and those joins snapped the same day. Same with his replacement. @@vaimantobe3034 yep already opened it. I ended up buying 5 out of 6 as brand new, because most of them used on eBay are in poor condition (ether incomplete or missing instructions/canister). I have all six as display models so I am not too worried about the joints
The Piraka are weaker as sets in retrospect, given that their build became standardised and many models only got more monstrous with time. By themselves, though, they are absolutely striking and fearsome in the way that they tower over the Toa Nuva, both in toy form and in the story.
Awesome video!! I still have the Piraka as well as a super rare toys r us Piraka display showcase in my collection, I need the Inika showcase but they’re just hard to find plain and simple.
I found that over time and out in the open air the spines have really became more flexible. Now I don’t have nearly as hard of a time posing them, even though I don’t want to do it much in case of damage.
You CAN actually replace the eye batteries by pushing a very tiny flathead screwdriver into the bottom to free up the clips. They take CR927 batteries.
I'm surprised you gave the Vahki a higher rating! I personally thought the Piraka and Barraki (Phantoka being VERY close) were the 2 best villain sets and in my opinion the 2 best sets altogether!

One of the best bionicle sets to date. This whole line of bionicles were awesome even the Toas but the Pirakas were so unique and such a breath of fresh air.
Bet next week will be Toa Inika
After Toa Inika will be Walmart Exclusive that is combination of Vezok, Reidak and Thok with special golden pieces
and then after the Inika, he'll Move Along
^ "I understood that reference!"
Will that be the course of action though...... 👀🤐
Irnakk hype!
"yo yo everyone!"
Leonardo DiCaprio pointing "he said the thing!"
Seeing this is so surreal... my brain had made 2001-2005 synonymous with your reviews.
Glad you're enjoying!
OMG! The LEGO Bionicle Piraka Gang of 2006! Brought tears of Nostalgia of that era >>> Still have the Vesok , Reidak & Thok in my collection! Thank You So Much for Sharing the Fond Memories! Stay Safe & Stay Grateful! Unity. Duty. Destiny! 🕯🌷🌿🌍💖🕊🇩🇰
These guys are one of my two favourite teams of clone sets, and, among other things, it's awesome how their canisters are shaped like their Voya Nui HQ in the story.
reidak was my first bionicle. 17 years later and i still have him
I do remember that you could replace the batteries in the brain piece. If you flipped it over, there was this small crack that you could kind of pull out with something hard, like metal, and then replace the battery; which is a small GP Lithium Cell (CR2032)
The Trigger
Tracer
Drifter
The Snake
The Beast
The Bully
All that makes
PIRAKA !!!
You don't know how much I regret not being into Bonicle when the Piraka came out. I missed out on so much man!!!
there are also 2 combiners wich use 3 and 3 piraka, they are official and look just like irnakk, i think they where sold in South Korea! its a great way to have some kind of irnakk build without spending a tremendous amount of money in the special spine! GREAT video Chris! loved it!
Thank you!! Irnakk had his own separate release so I wasn't going to cover them now. Maybe I'd come back and revisit the other at a later date though
@@AllOutBrick thats great, im thinking in building irnakk myself, i almost have everything
it aint easy, but you CAN replace the batteries for the light up eyes, it just uses one CR927 battery and you need a teeny tiny flathead screwdriver to pry open the little slots
My favorite gimmick besides the spheres were the dual purpose weapons that can be switched to without taking out weapons
Thank you!! Welcome aboard the channel!
I find it funny that we call it the "Inika build" despite the Piraka technically introducing it. Talk about getting robbed!
"Getting robbed" is pretty ironic seeing as Piraka was a Matoran word for thief...
@@jeremycocciolone9223 sure they technically have different molds, but the way you build them is basically identical when you get down to it.
@@TheHaloHedgehog sorta. Its honestly determined.by how close the arms and legs are with each other due to that mold I believe.
5:50 - The batteries actually are replaceable, you just need to open up the piece with a very thin flathead.
I got a Piraka used recently, and I was able to replace the battery after just a handful of minutes.
Who can forget the masterpiece, that is, the Piraka Rap..

In all fairness though, I remember not liking the Piraka when I was a kid, but man as I grew older I liked them more and more
Eh, someone was bound to do it
When I was a kid in 2006 and I had six piraka + Vezon & Kardas, the glowing teeth made for a pretty awesome addition to my room at night
Always remember, Lego specified that the word Piraka is a slur in the Matoran language
One of my favorite villains, awesome review as always
Thanks!
Yo yo Piraka. The best villains next to Barraki. I was so pissed off when they were fused into this Golden-Skinned Trash Being that can make dreams reality. Zaktan shouldve gained these powers rather than an entirely new character being made out with them out of six other popular characters.
My favorite villains/Bionicle squad ever. So much nostalgia from 2006. Those were good years :)
The only time in Bionicle I got all six in a wave when they were still in stores ^_^
these guys were super special, probably because they were the first non hoard villains. the bohrok, visorak, vahki, and rahkshi were all groups of almost identical villains. these guys were actual characters.
5:52 they are
It’s a bit hard but it is possible
I’ve used Zaktan’s wing blade weapon
(X2) and managed to make a pretty cool wing/wyvern look to one of my Rahi ideas, and now I’m currently just trying to figure out what the head and beak will look like.
I love them
I love the dual function weapons, which suit their respective element.
Yes my favorite Bionicle gang! Let's go!
I suppose that is true, different part usage in the limbs would have certainly increased the level of articulation
YO YO PIRAKA
The "two weapons in one" feature always had me excited for a new one of these. The concept was fascinating and ended up maturing into love for another series later.
The gang is on the loose!!!
I have all these guys but I still need to rebuild Zaktan and Reidak
Great video as always and no dislikes! I hope one day you get the recognition you disserve!
I appreciate that! The overwhelming support for these videos is incredible!
I really liked the monochromatic colors in the Metru and it could've been the same here
In the US they have gangsters, in Voya Nui we have Piraka
I noticed that the Vezok canister has Intertoys stickers on the back. So it's from the Netherlands! :D
Yes it is!! The Dutch came through on Vezok
I just wanna say that I pretty like your videos. They are informative and entertaining. Waiting for more! And good luck to you!)
Perfect first sentence
I was waiting this one :)
Excelent video my friend, greetings and blessings from Lima, Perú.
Thank you!
Boy, can't wait for Barraki review, super happy with mine!
I've never built one so I'm just as excited!
Just prepare lots of extra lime green joints for them :/
@@vaimantobe3034 ha, I’ve bought Ehlek brand new for this very reason
@@TymaDem have you opened it yet? Ehlek was my first Barakki in 2007 and those joins snapped the same day. Same with his replacement. I ended up getting replacement parts directly from Lego and basically didn't dare to touch Ehlek much after that. I think even some of the replacement parts had the issue...
So ehm... brand new might not help much
@@vaimantobe3034 yep already opened it. I ended up buying 5 out of 6 as brand new, because most of them used on eBay are in poor condition (ether incomplete or missing instructions/canister). I have all six as display models so I am not too worried about the joints
Virgin Rahkshi: Im under attack by two toa, I just have to die :c
Chad Piraka: I HAD BREAKFAST TOA AND PICK MY TEETH WITH RAHKSHI
Ahh yes, the piraka, thok was my first g1 set, I remember when g2 came out and I wanted them so bad because the glow up eyes.
Oh I’m excited your gonna tackle my two favorite bionicles and my favorite wave is coming soon
12:27 Boy you realy dont like the 2007 Matoran xD
Great videos by the way! Waiting every Monday.
Yeah they stunk! 😂 Bad way to start off 2006
can't wait for you to get to the Toa Inika next week, they're some of my favorites
This is by far my favorite Set out of them all!
IVE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS MOMENT
The combination model on 9:22 reminds me so much of the Revenant from Doom! :D
They were cool Villains, I like the Designs and the depiction in Bionicle Heroes was good
I found that over time and out in the open air the spines have really became more flexible. Now I don’t have nearly as hard of a time posing them, even though I don’t want to do it much in case of damage.
Thank You For Celebrating Bionicle Sets 2001-2006 It Been A While For No One That Cares About Them, But I Do, I Do Care About Bionicle 2001-2006 Sets
You CAN actually replace the eye batteries by pushing a very tiny flathead screwdriver into the bottom to free up the clips. They take CR927 batteries.
Bionicles are always awesome, no matter how old they are
Great memories from the Bionicle Heroes videogame too!
Thanks!
Thank you so much!!! Really appreciate the support!
“Yo yo, piraka”
1st thing that came to mind
I remember getting Avak and being confused that his head was a big triangular chin unlike the top of the cannister.
Awesome review I have never seen these sets before
Man I remember having the whole set but sadly I had to sell them... It was a struggling time.
Ah yes the piraka! I like the canisters on the set with the non rubber faces of the select piraka.
Really nice touch on the packaging to throw in the heads
@@AllOutBrick It is! Sucks they can’t really fit on the piraka heads.
I'm surprised you gave the Vahki a higher rating! I personally thought the Piraka and Barraki (Phantoka being VERY close) were the 2 best villain sets and in my opinion the 2 best sets altogether!
I wish we would of seen them in a movie they’re cool
10 years and my piraka eyes still work!
YESS I WAS WAITING FOR THIS ONE
