FF16 Barnabas boss battle. - Ігри
This whole fight against Odin is the perfect love letter to Devil May Cry fans. You don't fight him as your Eikon, the final arena in the rain is just like the one at the top of Temen-ni-gru, his attacks are just like Vergil's, and best of all he becomes MOTIVATED.
I definitely got devil may cry 3 vibes from that fight lol
It’s so good. He straight up Judgement Cuts you. Best fight in the game.
Vergil but with One Handed Zweihander
the battle was really fun gameplay wise but not having a proper Eikon battle against Odin fucking sucked. was really disappointed. Odin is the worst of the main Eikon battles imo excluding Phoenix which wasn't really a fight.
@@scartioantolare5825 I feel the exact opposite, I feel like it was the most of an actual fight out of all the bosses and less about the flashy Eikons.
the passion behind the “that i might revel in it!” line gave me chills man
yeah, squaring up against him after he says that was lowkey intimidating
David menkin is so amazing, love him in xc2 and this as well
If I had a penny for every time a game helmed by Naoki Yoshida had a battle hungry boss that loudly proclaims how he wants to REVEL in it, I'd have two pennies, which isn't a lot but it's a fun coincidence that it happened twice.
I like how he stays behind the helmet, but you don't have to imagine too hard to consider just how wide and twisted a grin Barnabas probably has on his face when he says that line. His eyes are probably wide and bloodshot too.
His semi-demonic voice really helps sell it too, plus the fact that he goes all DBZ with the power aura.
I was kind of lukewarm regarding him as someone so freakishly strong he beat Clive twice without difficulty. Even though this is a proper one on one where Clive gets the advantage with newly imbedded powers of Shiva, I was still not sold on him.
These lines though? It was the first time I gave a proper excited “oh shit.” Possibly my favorite voiced lines of the game.
I like how Barnabas reclaims his *motivation* as the fight progresses.
" I am yours, Mythos! Claim me as your prize! " Jesus Christ I did not expect this to be my endgame damn 😂
I was worried he was about to go full zenos and stalk clive to the ends of the earth
It was at this point, I realized:
"holy shit this dude wants Clive's ass"
How Torgal got through this fight is beyond me 😂 good pup
Ong bro was holding his own and saved Clive
Well torgal is a descendant of Fenrir lol
I thought this man was the Sephiroth clone, turns out he's the freaking Zenos clone. He dropped that whole holier than thou act as soon as he got battle horny.
BAHAHAHA that gotta chuckle out of me when you said 'battle horny'!
No one can replicate sephiroth, meanwhile zenos is just the guy waiting for a good fucking fight 😭
"THAT I MIGHT REVEL IN IT" has similar vibes to "BEEAAAAAR WIITNESSSSSSSS"
Nothing like Celto-Germanic inspired dudes screaming at the sky because they’re battle hungry!
Funny enough, Clive gets a dragon arm like Godrick’s in the new DLC for FF16
Initially I was disappointed we didn’t get a big spectacle Eikon fight but then after I defeated Odin and the more I thought about it, the boss fight was pretty damn amazing. It was Clive vs. Barnabas with bits of Ifrit vs. Odin. Hearing Barnabas absolutely lose his mind while fighting Clive was definitely the highlight.
as cool as the fight was the lack of a proper Eikon battle makes it drop pretty far down the list of my favorite bosses honestly.
@@scartioantolare5825 I thought the same until I started to realize that Odin's power isn't the fact that he turns into a giant man on a horse, the power of Odin is purely in the blade itself. He's arguably more threatening not doing giant sweeps back and forth, but as he is in human form (like where he pulls out a second blade in his human form). I wouldn't have minded another track though.
@@Narnio01this. He's probably the most dangerous dominant eikon for just how damn easy he can semi prime and prime on and off
I think this was just PERFECT on how this fight went as you said i love the Clive vs. Barnabas imo it fits so much better than a full on eikon fight since the fact that the alot of his power is from his blade and not so much an eikon and him losing his mind over the excitement of the battle sets it on a entirely different level for me
Nope. He didn't lose his mind.
*Now I'm MOTIVATED!!!*
I can count on one hand how many line reads that are so filled with ones soul as “SO I MIGHT REVEL IN IT!!!” that i can remember from media as a whole let alone any recent games. That monologue, and his unhinged laughter, alone made Barnabus go from so-so to me to one of my absolute top performances in this already amazing game.
Ironically the first one that comes to my mind is Zenos from FF14. Though Zeno's voice actor is somehow able to deliver almost every line of dialogue with that level of quality. Barnabas actually shares a line or two with Zenos.
@@theredcomet5670Honestly, Barnabas is basically a Zenos who allies with the Endsinger! Obsessed with the main character, check. Usually stoic but reveals himself to be absolutely batshit crazy when fighting the main character, check. Completely fine with humanity being destroyed, check.
Can you please calm down?
Only one i can think off are some of gabriels lines from p2 of ultrakill
I like how David Menkin (Barnabas) has a North American accent IRL and you can hear that with Malos in Xenoblade 2 where the cast is otherwise full of British voice actors, but he is actually originally from Norway and that his accent was just very developed, so it sounds like he tapped into the voice of his earlier days speaking English for the role of the major Norse deity’s Dominant. Especially since Barnabas is mentioned to not even be of Ash, so giving him an approximate yet foreign quality that adds to him.
I like how in Xenoblade 1-3 and this when UK’s varied regional accents are utilized in the English audio of an original concept world to signify region or fantasy race. (Like how Gormotti, the cat ear people, have Welsh accents; or High Entia, the winged head people from Bionis’s capital, have thicker Southern English accents)
Barnabas got to be one of the most unexpected plot twist considering what we theorised on him.
We thought of him as some great composed sephirothesque warlord with some goal of Darwinist freedom where eikons could rule the world.
Turns out it’s the exact opposite, he is but a clinically insane slave without will who just became complacent with his role and strength, accepting his role and fate out of loneliness and boredom with his only serotonin being the challenge that was promised to him. He is the strongest dominant but the « weakest » at the same time.
We thought Dion would be the religious meta slave but turns out it’s his nemesis
Kinda depressing ( not disappointing tho ) villain to be honest. Would like to learn more on him though.
The facts
Dion is the first gay character, that I can say a very good representation. I really thought barneys character is gonna be some morally gray badass character, but what we got is a wierdo who is a slave to fate but still do some badass feats as the dominant of odin.
Barnabas is basically this game's answer to Zant from The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess.
ass gas landu fart hara mutt gaaara man
@@jamarcusdavis4023 THIS
Geez you can tell from the dialogue that Barnabas' voice actor was REALLY enjoying it a lot at 15:41 Barnabas: Don't tell me you are TIRED, Mythos!? Your stubborn defiance has stirred my long-becalmed heart! Filling it with a... *JOY* that I have not known for generations! I had thought the tantalizing kiss of self-indulgence a dream forever out of my reach! And now that its sweet ruin courses through my veins, I shall not be quick to relinquish it! SHOW ME YOUR WORTH MYTHOS....THAT I MIGHT *REVEL IN IT!*
Voice acting is top notch fr
I love how suddenly he goes from composed to completely unhinged in this fight!
@@Michael019xmans VA 180'd all the way to Malos from Xenoblade 2 but somehow even more screamy
@@AlovonINDEED!!
Okay but calm down.
"Its not my will that should worry you but the weakness of yours" is such a cold line. Clive really hits those one liners
Barnabas is probably the hardest boss fight in the game because you don't fight him as Ifrit.
It's a massive skill test and it doesn't get more badass than this.
How is this guy dodging out of all Barnabas attacks??? I done got killed so many tunes in this part and I aced all the other boss fights this fight seems extremely cheap 😤 😑😑😑
@@yungjus1he uses one of the assistant rings or items that way he has a time window. I usually did all the side quests so I had most Max eikon abilities upgraded to rotate in/out with heavy stagger damage& actual damage and then sub priming to let my abilities recharge and took him out like that
I dont agree with the hardest fight part but he does take a bit more brainpower than the others
Loved Odin's monologue from 15:37, absolutely brilliant voice acting.
It was most unexpected, considering the last time I heard Barnabas' voice actor was when he played Preston Marlowe in the Battlefield Bad Company games.
:s It's great voice acting BUT NOT FOR A GOD. Odin should instill fear into our souls just by his monsterous deep voice alone OR he should just not talk at all, because why should he? He's above all.
Genuinely amazing
@@R.James. Odin is not above all. Bahamut is the God of all Eidolons. and even then Leviathan is still King of Eidolons by most FF lore. Odin from FF is not the same as Odin from Mythology. Only that Odin is heavily influenced by Odin in Mythology. Odin in FF is more of a lone dark undefeated knight with immense power who usually only gives his power to those who have proven their worth. Odin in FF4 and 8 is a perfect example of this.
@@RedStreak103 Oh very interesting. Thanks for clarifying. I thought Odin was based on the mythology yeah so that's why. FF8 is my fav game of all time and Odin there was just the end all be all. The way he entered was just ... you knew it was game-over for the enemy.
However with that said, I still don't like this voice-over for him, his voice should still make your knees tremble.
The move at 20:30 when Odin reaches full power that's called:"Woden Worhte Weos", is a line of the Maxims I, an Old English poem. In this line, the God Odin is described in constrasted with the Christian's God and the line in particular means: Woden (Odin in old english, one of the over 170 name that he has in history) wrought idols, perhaps implying his primacy over the other gods.
Caught that as well! Smiled this whole fight through, had me wanting to wear my Valsgarde helm as I played the game.
I like how this fight has the least amount of QTEs to break the phases, mostly a combat mechanic duel
Yeah, it's basically your Duel Fight 1 on 1 fight in an action game akin to Vergil/Nelo Angelo fights in Devil May Cry, or even fighting Jetstream Sam in Metal Gear Rising.
I like to think of it as a duel to test just how good you've become at the game.
If you've been slacking or half-asleep he,ll annihilate you and the lack of QTE's send the message of "Earn your victory earnestly."
At least on non-baby mode.
I was expecting a spectacle similar to Bahamut, but what I got was a straight skill check.
This fight was a Souls boss without the rings. Arcade mode is going to be a nightmare
yeah first boss where i thought jesus the potential in this game is pretty big cant wait to get to him on my FF mode play through
Every action game needs a great rival fight, and this is definitely this game’s. He even uses Judgement Cut
I kinda like how it sounds initially like the whole "you've made a weapon of your weakness" bit is sarcastic, even the way Barnabas says "I apologize". Then he says "You are not the fool I took you for", and you realize he's being sincere.
And then, he lets loose.
I love that the music gives the sense of Odin riding the storm
Odin is the storm that is approaching
I loved barnabas’s theme from the very start but damn it’s awesome how upbeat and celebration esque the boss theme is, makes it feel like the best 1v1 duel I’ve ever had the joy of playing since Slave Knight Gael
Exactly what I was thinking. What’s his theme called btw? Can’t find it anywherw
@@prodizayah4694The Riddle
Barnabas really fights like no other Dominant, the way he goes in and out of various previously unseen stages of Priming is incredibly impressive, and it's like he can semi-Prime to a state where he can concentrate Odin's full power without having to sacrifice speed or go into the huge form and make a big target of himself, he shows amazing control of his Eikon, like he IS Odin. It may not be the big Eikon Vs. Eikon spectacle like some of the other bosses, but still an amazing fight that really showcased a Dominant using their abilities at full potential, and the way he becomes more psychotic as the fight goes on having finally found a worthy opponent, fucking love it.
When I first beat this boss fight i was disappointed we didn't get a full Eikon fight like Bahamut, but looking back on it now it makes a lot more sense that we fought him mainly in his semi prime form. The Eikon of Odin wasn't really the main thing that made Barnabas so strong, it was the black blade paired with his masterful swordsmanship that was regarded as the best in all of Valisthea that made him so OP, so the fact the we straight up whooped his ass while just using sword and no eikon just goes to show you how badass Clive is. Still not better than Bahamut though.
Obviously in his full eikon form he would be stronger
@@rexlapis1075technically yeah but for one on ones not so much because he can’t be as quick. Odins power purely comes from his blade not the fact he can turn into a huge horse and big man. I would argue in semi prime he’s way more overpowered because of his mastery of the blade
@@jamrah8713
No? It’s mentioned the true power of a dominant is when using the power of the eikon
Full form Odin would obviously be stronger just like any other
If He was fighting any other eikon , he would be using his full form instead
Agreed especially how Odin got one shotted just after transforming
@@breadandbutter6097 I think the one got one shotted is his horse Sleipnir, after got hit by Ifrit Zantetsuken his horse vanished. when Barnabas prime into Odin using his Skill the horse is nowhere to be seen
15:37 This whole speech got my adrenaline rushing into the final battle
Ok but calm down....
Glad I’m not the only one xD
When he laughed at Clive midway, I burst out laughing. This is one of the funnest battles, in my opinion, but nothing tops Bahamut.
Definitely the coolest 1V1 😂 I love it
This game's combat is basically what FFXV should have been like.
Specifically when playing as Luna, who would use the power of the gods/eikons to fight.
Agree. Perhaps they didn't know what combat mechanics to use.
@@ronaldlalisan4987 They clearly did have a vision at some point, but then forced the lead developer to drop the project and go work on Kingdom Hearts.
Screwing up the entire project.
@@jefthereaperwhile 15 wasn’t good when first dropping I really wish they let him finish his vision ….the reason 15 stuck out to me so much was the caption of the game literally “a fantasy based on reality” all locations looked Gorgeous and even took from real life areas. The setting was perfect and the story was beyond saving after the year 1 patch.
@@Aceondacase They story was already ruined after the project was ripped from Nomura's hands.
It was supposed to not just be a story about brotherhood, but love and (hate?) between Luna (Stella).
As well as a large emphasis on the love of a father.
I strongly think many parts of the game were supposed to be played with young Noctis, experiencing the past with the other young Chocobro's and Luna.
It’s a shame we never had an eikon battle but this, in my opinion, was still pretty fun
I think they realized they couldn’t top Bahamut and gave us a sick Clive boss
I think it's okay that we didn't. It's like saying we don't always need Ifrit to kick total ass, though it would've been cool to see Ifrit bust out a greatsword berserk style and go ham on Odin in a sword fight. Damn....I was expecting it too
We couldn't have a eikon fight because ifrit would never have one against Odin the fight would've been a 3 tap at best cause he got pieced up off of 1 hit from the sword
I mean odin is all about duels. So this fits very well

I’m 38 years old. Of all the ff16 games I’ve played this game took the crown. The story, the action, and most importantly the skill it takes to beat the game. Hard mode is the only option to truly revel in it.
The voice actor for Barnabas is incredible, I love how he progressively comes more and more insane as the fight rages on.
The design of odin is amazing. The Image of the Dark knight. 👍👍
If there's ever a new dissidia game, I'd rather have him as the Chaos rep for FFXVI rather than Ultima. Ultima is kinda similar to Zemus from FFIV, an alien god main antagonist that's been manipulating behind the scenes. But instead of Zemus being Chaos rep for FF4, it's Golbez(the character he's been controlling). I can see them doing smthn similar with having Barnabas instead for FF16 rep
He definitely will be, he has a lot of Zenos, Sephiroth and Vergil DNA in him. With some Garland / Golbez esque fashion
Ultima feels like a personal arch-nemesis to Clive though.
I could see Barnabas being happy in a Dissidia like game if he gets a lot of worthy enemies to fight. Look how excited he was when Clive challenged him.
@@shiroutheherotraceon3313 would be cool to see barnabas fight against noctis, firion, garland, emperor, cloud and sephiroth
This game reminds me of FF4 in so many ways...!
I have to admit the bosses in this game are quite something. VII, XIII, and XVare still my all time favorites followed by VIII, X, and IX, but XVI is catching up into the top 10 just because of the cinematic scenes and boss fights. 😊
SquareEnix you did a darn good job in creating another beautiful game that I'm loving in the franchise. I haven't yet played it, but I hope to soon.
😂😮😢😂😂😅🎉 23:30 😅🎉😂😅😮😅🎉😅
Someone who like XIII. Thank you! Most people didn’t like it but I loved it. But For me this is my new no 1.
Ultima gives me strong Veros from Infinite Undiscovery (another excellent Jrpg) vibes. Both are gods, both manipulate the mc and the antagonist to fulfill their will, both enjoy toying with mortal lives, and both are brought to heel by their own hubris.
I'm surprised no one in the comments noticed that that's Malos from Xenoblade Chronicles 2 that Clive's fighting. David Menkin's ability to go from calm and collected to full on shouting to maniacal cacking is terrific range. Wait, Barnabas is Malos and Ultima is Z...? Well played, Square Enix! Well played!
INDEED!!!!
I kept hearing that the Barnabas fight was so disappointing. Now that I've actually done it, I feel like I couldn't disagree more. I think it was one of the most intense and aesthetically cool boss fights in the game. Sure, we didn't get a full Odin and Ifrit fight, but honestly, I didn't mind. Despite all the spectacle, I kind of thought Titan and Bahamut were a bit TOO over the top and took too long to complete. The Barnabas fight lasted just long enough, and his descent into deeper madness over the course of the fight was truly unsettling.
I think the Benedikta fight is still my favorite boss in the game, but Barnabas might well be a close second.
The Garuda fight is prolly my fav fight. It shows the power of Eikons to change the entire battle field and world. It was like fighting in a hurricane!
I think it was a real grounded display of Eikons power. Sure scorching the earth and shooting beams are cool, but this changed the weather! Idk It did something for meX
“Don’t tell me you’re tired, Mythos”
🙄 uhh excuse me, do you see Ifrit running and jumping around while you riding your horse?
6:02 the timing with which the music joins and the transformation of barnabas is wonderful even creepy
Perfection!

i really love that Odin's (and maybe Ultima's?) theme that starts at 2:55 is basically the ff1 overworld theme but slowed down. i kept thinking how it sounded so familiar and then it just clicked. Instead of being full of hope it's almost like a... dirge? not sure if that's accurate or not.
6:57 really underrated line. Perfectly encapsulates how Barnabas feels humanity has gotten them to this low point and that they can’t get out of it themselves.
16:29 ost kinda sounds like a celebration to me, the change in the ost made it my favorite fight in the game, though not as big in scale as the others before, it’s last half does it justice
For him it is. Clive's given him back the joy of a good fight.
Bahamut was an amazing spectacle. Barnabus/Odin is a one (plus Torgal) on one duel that felt so fun to experience and test what I've learned thus far. Plus the music change is fantastic.
But can someone explain how during the final phase the player was able to use the LB attacks outside of LB? I just beat the game and not once did I ever see myself able to do without having to burn my LB to... well to use that moveset. Unless it's the game being confused or one of the accessibility rings doing it.
The berserker ring accessory gives you limit break attacks for a few seconds after you do a precision dodge. I think you find it around 30% through the game.
@@lightcolt8784 That's what it does?! I thought it was just a dps accessory for dodging correctly. That's great to know now.
@@lightcolt8784you get it when you have the patron’s whisper unlocked and have 85 renown points
The Berserker Ring. Makes the game a lot, lot easier. It triggers a semi LB counter if you make a precision dodge in the direction of an attack instead of away from it.
Its actually great to see the constant progression of skill from the player. The player has turned into an absolute beast playing the game.
19:15 the use of flames of rebirth fit so well here
This was a hard fight, worthy of being a boss fight. Had to every single item at my disposal, including that final phoenix down thingy (that you only get one of). Maybe I just suck in my old age lol, but holy crap the only other time it came down to the wire like that was the first fight against Garuda.

Easily the best fight in the game, mechanically anyway. Titan is a great fight, but it’s not as fun or replayable, it’s just a great first time experience.
The Bahamut fight is my all time favorite, but this one is amazing too
Man it’s the complete opposite for me on Titan. I’ve replayed that stage 3 times now😭
This is the worst fight in the game just dodge and go behind him the whole fight, pretty disappointing cinematic wise too
@@CountArtoriaswell, all the other fights are like that, dodge and attack.
Bahamut was for me
Why does it play the FFI Overworld theme when Branabas gives his speech before battle?
Because that’s an Easter egg
FF Easter eggs throughout the game. Vivi scarecrow, Yuna whistle, and this. I’m sure there’s a lot more
It's used as Ultima's leitmotif in this game.
Imagine if all boss fights were as epic as these
Odin is my favorite icon
Everyone calls this the Odin boss fight, yet Barnabas never actually uses his Eikon form
Edit: Let me rephrase, Barnabas never uses his Eikon form IN ITS OWN PHASE/FIGHT, the game stuffs him in one attack and one QTE
To be fair, the Odin Eikon got one-shot by Ifrit.
Barnabas is meant to be the Vergil / Zenos of the game, which is why the boss fight is meant to be a 1 v 1 sword fight
Plus what would you expect from a Odin fight, it suppose to be a duel.
He uses it in short bursts against normal Clive though. A good subversion from all the Eikon fights before.
@@aguywithgames3135 well they did say each will be different from the last, I think this is suppose to be a duel like battle, then again I expect no less from Odin.

@@lexsims2516 he’s not! This is his main goal from the beginning! To give up his dominant power for Clive! This is his purpose, this is Ultima’s instruction to Barnabas.
@@A_3M2 he does it weirdly passionately tho lol
@@lexsims2516 i agree 😂 maybe because he’s akashic?
@@A_3M2 surely 😂
Last phase he has pretty much become zenos becuse it seems like he is happy to finally find a worthy opponent especially when he says his heart is beating fast filling him with joy.
This dude is powerful I will give him that.
Not the dodge ring.
I like how Barnabas is being portrayed as cold and composed person throughout the game, but in this fight, especially from 15:37 onward, he shows us how insane he can be.
Is it me or Barnabas Eikon form resembles Garland more than Odin
The design of many bosses and invocationsin this game is largely inspired of different japanese mangas/anime renowned for magic and large creatures. Garuda and "Odin" look like two of the Abyssals in Claymore (Lucilla of the South and Easly of the North) whereas Ifrit form is also quite similar to Nosferatu Zodd from Berserk seinen.
As batalha contra os Boss desse game são espetaculares
Not go lie I was expecting the man scream INDEED!!!
Just got done with this fight and honestly this is probably my 3rd fav fight in game and i say third cuz nothing is topping titian and bahamut fights for me personally
Y'all he almost clapped me at a segment of health and i popped my stance shift last decond and ran through his aoe arena attack and used the a Titan windup to kill him😂😂😂 fuck I Love this game
