Man, FF4 was first ever Final Fantasy game I've ever played. And I wasn't a kid - I was 2 months from turning 20, it was 4 years ago. I was recovering from trauma after a car accident for almost 2 years of drifting between hospitals and my home and I was pretty depressed. And then I was able to play this silly old game. This heart-touching story about hope and remedy hit very close to home.
1:35:37 If you're wondering, the Yang fight script is supposed to go as follows... Cecil (after attacking Yang): "Come on, Yang!" Yang counterattacks with the Black Sword (yes, the Dark Knight Weapon) Yang: "Shut up!" Yang kicks Cecil (after attacking Yang): "......It's me!" Yang counterattacks with the Black Sword Yang: "ACHOOOOOOOOOO!" Yang kicks Cecil attacks Yang Yang: "Ouch!"
+Trilkin What I call really trying to cram a limited character space is MegaMan Battle Network struggling all the damn time with the 8 space limit. Early FF games just kinda fucked with a lot of the names, some of which would work fine with the space limit.
I learned something today that I'm pretty sure I should've already known, but didn't. And yeah, my suspicion is that Easytype actually was the NA release all along and was not originally going to be released in Japan. Someone thought there was virtue to releasing an 'easier' version of the game domestically, though, so while the game was still being localized, they released the changed version in Japan first without bothering with changing any of the sprites back.
If it was finished after the US version, it was released before it. Easytype was released in October, NA release was in November. It's possible localization or importing issues delayed the release, but. Again - the two teams probably made their own changes prior to release, but the base version of Easytype was probably intended for NA audiences first.
This was my first and favorite FF game, im gettin all the nostalgias.. this was like the only game i owned for a good few years so i have played it way too much lel.
LoganMartinsChannel Each time you get a new character you choose one of twelve job classes - each with its own License Board - and that character is then locked to that class for the whole game.
Oh wow! Sounds like fun. I don't like games where you can do everything with every character. Too easy and ruins the immersion a little when basch can rain down hell with magic and penelo can ohko with a sword lol
The guy sitting on the couch has this weird vocal affectation where the last syllable of every sentence, he extends it and rises up. But specifically, if it ends with a hard consonant, then he extends the hard sound. It's weird. It's "weird*eh*".
I'm not sure if they mention it because I'm not all the way through the run yet, but I think its basically because there's spare time in a lot of battles anyway while animations are playing out, and so if he rearranges inventory during those scenes hes getting more productive things done per second and saving himself a long menu transition outside of battle
+Zichz You should give 9 a try. The original is a bit rough around the edges due to being rushed to release before it was really ready but it's still really good (had it been a little better polished, I would have a hard time choosing between it and 6...and it definitely beats 10 imho...)
+Zichz wow you played 3?, that game is the ghost of the series, I never heard anyone talk about it and I can see why, tried playing the original and just saw no reason to keep playing after a few minutes, and I did finish mystic quest and the second FF, at least that one had a character so dumb he could talk to animals.
+Youa Numbah Oneah Racist I mean, if I had to speedrun an RPG, I'm pretty sure the characters names would be second nature and would take a lot of focusing to suddenly call them new names
Oblivionitus I don't give a shit about what the runner calls them, he can refer to every character as Bill if it helps him run. Commentators though? The least they could do. The very least.
they are obligated to call them by the donation names. whether they meet that obligation is another issue entirely, as the names can be random and hard to remember compared to the default names.
That blonde guy just talks when he wants to lmao he interrupts everyone. Good commentating but wait like .5 seconds for people to finish their sentences dude. Also, might not be the best but don't pass on FFXII people...
It's weird to me how much lip service FFVI gets. I mean, it's good but I feel like people heap more praise on it than it really deserves just to be different than the people who love VII and X.
6 is a great game... but it's not as good as people seem to think it was. The story was a bit of a mess. Too many characters, too many subplots. It didn't even commit to having a main character. The main villain's motivation was... well he didn't have one. He was just crazy and wanted to destroy everything due to being crazy. Great game, great characters, but 7 was a bigger deal for a reason.
@@smilingkevin It's partially that, but it's also that people have this contrarian streak where they won't like something if it gets too popular. Also the fact that 7 was on playstation where every other FF game up until then was on the Snes/famicom. I always preferred 4 over 6 to be honest. 6 was a bit depressing. Half the world dies, all the Espers die, Locke's gf dies, Terra gets stuck raising a bunch of kids whose parents died, if you don't feed Cid the right fish he dies, Celes tries to kill herself, Cyan's family dies, Terra's parents die, Setzer's gf died, Shadows partner died. Cyan writes letters to a girl whose bf died...... the game is a constant stream of people dying. The resistance leader Banon and the Returners.... they completely forget about them once the world of ruin starts. Not even a mention. Kefka wants to destroy the world... but he doesn't use his giant super weapon until you finally reach him in his huge tower. In fact.... he doesn't do anything the entire time you're in the world of ruin if I remember correctly. Just kinda chills. There's so many characters that they only get 1 or 2 development scenes each aside from Terra and Celes. And because there's so many, you never really get any kind of feel for the chemistry between characters the way you do in 4, 7 or say.. 9. So yeah..... this is still a great game.....but it has a ton of flaws that people overlook due to rose colored nostalgia glasses.
i know this is an old post, but the people said it correctly. the correct name is meteor, but they cut the numbers of letters do to memory limitations at the time. so you say meteor with the r.
The various donations comments just make me think 'seriously fuck cancer'. Like I know that's a bit of a redundant statement but I really hate how a disease exists that can affect literally fucking anything in your body, develops in secret and only becomes obvious when it's too late, and is more often than not a death sentence. I'm lucky enough to have not had to deal with it in my family but to anyone who has my heart completely goes out to you. It's terrifying and horrible and anyone who gets it and soldiers on is the bravest of souls.
Well, to be fair you can die at any point at any time. If you believe in fate or destiny you could be scripted to die at any time and it wouldn't make a difference. You could die of cancer without knowing you ever had it or die in a car crash just the same. It just is how it is, death is just as unpredictable as cancer can be.

demilung 9 months later, I hope you're doing fine :)
Cool man. Hope you're doing ok now.
@@nostalgia6669 I'd like to say I'm fine, but I live in Ukraine of all places, so it's pretty far from ok
@@demilung maybe the perfect time to play FF6
the music in this game is so beautiful.
I love how they do bonus fights to get Rydia more summons, but she's just dead for most of the fights.
FFIV is the best FF ever in my opinion. Hoping FF will pull away from the futuristic stuff and maybe get us a medieval-esque FF once again.
I think it's intentional. they are building up
You mean medieval AND futuristic at the same time like FFIV (we even go to the moon in a space ship in this game LOLOLOLOL)?
I'm with ya there.
I'm late but this game isn't all medieval
I'm late but this is my fav game of all time

The monster names aren't typoes; they're just trying to cram the name into a field with limited characters.
+Trilkin What I call really trying to cram a limited character space is MegaMan Battle Network struggling all the damn time with the 8 space limit. Early FF games just kinda fucked with a lot of the names, some of which would work fine with the space limit.
Antdot was always my favorite name cram
That was such an unfortunate abbreviation, but it's still not wrong. "Cockatrice"
4:00:35 Trash Can Glitch
Even if it doesn't count as a real FF game, Final Fantasy Adventure is definitely my favorite. In the main series, 4 and 8 are my favs.
Great run. I once named all characters Golbez. Made the cut scene before the last battle very funny.
LOL HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
run starts 26:07
Also, the guillotine turning into a ball, the visible passages and etc were all part of the Easytype release in Japan as well.
I learned something today that I'm pretty sure I should've already known, but didn't. Someone thought there was virtue to releasing an 'easier' version of the game domestically, though, so while the game was still being localized, they released the changed version in Japan first without bothering with changing any of the sprites back.
Any additional changes to the NA release were by the localization team itself. That's my GUESS, though. Not sure how true it is.

First FF i played all the way thru when I was young back in the mid 90s. Got me hooked on FF games
FF 4 IS MY FAVORITE FF GAME DUE TO THE MUSIC IS AWESOME! My favorite FF song is the prolouge and the epolouge!
Arbys, never forget...
Bif, always remember!
Kain had such a good character design, his ending was sad though
His arc continues in the After Years though.

38:00 the wall street trick. Sell a whole lotta nothing for 6 million bucks.
If kain get death 3:57:16, the run was be more extensed
Got me yelling out "you spoony bard" at work. Eh whatever Haha
Am I the only one who thinks that the finale was abrupt?
Chrono Trigger is the best Final Fantasy
I hope we might one day see a ffXII run at a gdq event. The childhood memories are real.
Look up "youkai"
Maybe in, like, 2018 we'll get one with The Zodiac Age. I know puwexil is interested in playing it again due to the IZJS.
Are there enforced classes in that version? Never played

Really clever manipulation. Well done!
3:11:56 Come on guy on couch, Thousands of dollars are getting donated. Don't tell your audience to get serious over a fun naming game.
So, if this runner was playing the GBA version, would that be NoCa$hGBA?
Wow.

Thumbs up for mentioning FFT
how come he got many Excalibur for Edge throw ability?
Do any of the glitches here work in the PS1 version, specifically the mist village clip?
Oof I've been watching so much Free Enterprise randomizer that I'm lowkey forgetting how the vanilla game goes xD
IV is the best
Is there a non-64 floor attempt made as well?
I think I missed the explanation, but why is he menu-ing and moving items during combat?
