Not worth the $165.74 | Intellivision Amico "Physical Box" impressions | Video will be delisted soon

- You all asked for a quick video, so here it is. I'll be delisting this soon as it's not quite fitting for what I typically like to post.
Please *DO NOT* delist the video. This is a Public Service Announcement (PSA).
I'll leave it up for a while.
@@Jenovi years? 🤔😊
@@pferreira1983 no...this video is needed.
@@pferreira1983 You just keep right on shilling, but I ain't buying it 🙄
$165.74 of physical garbage.
Honestly, been avoiding Amico videos/news for a while. In addition to what I mentioned, I understood these to be something different than was received. The e-mail I received about ordering physical "Collector's Boxed Sets," it didn't mention these didn't include physical games. Last I remember hearing, that wasn't the case. We were getting physical games. I think most people are in my boat unless they follow the Amico community or drama. It's a bit manipulative to market these as "physical" and for "collectors." These are not "Physical," in the term gamers associate with the word, and a box of Cheerios is of better quality than this. They need to be transparent, something like, "Hey, you're paying a premium for a download code and not a physical game. That means you'll need the internet to download and play THIS game. There is no way to play games on this console without the internet."
Wow. Looks super cheap. What a let down
As someone who hasn't been tracking news on this system, it feels like a bit of a bait and switch too. I feel like the e-mail I received discussing preordering their physical games should have been a bit more clear that we were preordering digital games and paying a premium for the box and a card containing the code. It is what it is, but the package is trash.
At the start of the whole Amico story, I thought it was a great idea and something fresh next to the uninspired new consoles. I totally saw myself buying it and it being a modest success in the market place. But after all the delays and fuck ups, my trust has decreased enormously. I did not buy these. Might have if they were actually physical games...
I've been trying to keep away from any news it has been so negative for so long. I HAD ZERO CLUE they dropped physical games and their e-mail announcing these certainly didn't help.
Same
I wanted to like it pretty bad too. Shame really.
I thought the video was being delisted because Tommy Talarico is not dealing that well with criticism ( and he isn't).
Nah, it's just not something I want as part of the channel library.
I mean, I could have told you that for a lot less than 165 bucks :D
Jenovi pre-ordered the Amico?! Wow, that is a surprise. Can't wait for your impressions on the console once it's finally released
I try not coving things I'm disappointed with, but I'm really disappointed here. Also, as the guy who covers really odd and obscure items that shouldn't have been made, how could I not own this? 🤠
@@Jenovi Good point 😉
Not really that surprising. Jenovi has all the cool stuff!
LOL, “here’s a 32X box for size comparison.” Nice flex there.
Those look like original Intellivision boxes.
The Intellivision Amico is an investment scám & gárbage system dude...
$165 down the shitter.
I mean, if someone was going to purchase the game regardless, then it's just the money difference, and that money is 100% is down the drain with these.
Just watched Tommy’s unboxing and I felt like he was making it up as he was going along.
So the carts are actually just an RFID card that tells your console to download the game.
So… will your Amico be able to read the RFID through the package (unopened). If they can… holy crap people are gonna Abuse the hell out of that
Definitely don't delist. The BS boxes are a brutal and asinine Amico attempt to save their sinking ship.
well in their defense they probably never thought anyone would actually open one up and play it.
🤣
Deleting before Tommy sees it? ;)
🤣. Seriously though, I don't really care who sees it, the video was put up mainly for my channel subs as they requested it. I think it's important people are aware of this from a source who's neutral (hype wise). These are not worth the asking price and are not as advertised.
No one emphasized the flimsiness of the boxes which my goodness, that would be a pain collecting!
The Amico is in a very interesting of a situation and it is a giant wild card for me.
Some things I am interested in but so many turn offs and red flags really make me skeptical.
I'm still interested in the system, but there's a ton of red flags and issues I didn't even mention in this video. I'll keep my preorder, but that's it for physical products. This certainly has dropped expectations for me.
@@Jenovi I just hope you are happy in the end with the Amico and you don’t get heart broken by more stuff like this to come.
I’ve seen the cards already but the fact that the box doesn’t secure shut really chaps my…bottom…
Box quality is like something you would get with a Chinese knock off being sold for 5% the cost and quality.
How hard would it have been to even put some Velcro tabs in the box?
Man, are retrogamers 'that' desperate for "physical media" to put on collector shelves that companies are resorting to selling flimsy boxes and cheap paper that supposely has RFID chips? Especially for a system that only does digital downloads...
I'm sorry you got ripped off, you should keep the video up as a life lession for others.
the genesis/32X/CD is my favorite retro console and if sega pulled this bs I wouldn't spend a dime on it. I feel bad for intellivision fans, this whole thing seems like a huge scam.
It's beyond disappointing. $10 for packaging that contains a hotel door entry card with a download code for a $10 game is insane ($20 each).
@@pferreira1983 Yeah give them something neither of them wanted lol
Thank you!! Lol nice Web of Fire flex!!!
It's nothing special, but you're welcome.
Heard about your video from PatTheNESPunk. Unfortunate that this product is bad and they couldn't even do the boxes right 😔
Originally I was impressed with the potential of the system but they dropped the ball with their arrogance, 3 delays later and still no release. Their bogus claim of physical media too. Def skipping this as I have no faith in the system’s success. More impressed with the Evercade VS and actual physical media and actual cases that comes with their games
$165?? For those flimsy boxes and silly coins? Gawd.
So... wait... is the game on the card or is this just... decorative?
I'm 99.9% sure it's just a download code. It shows RFID on the back and feels like one of those fake credit cards you get in the mail when they are trying to get you signed up.
@@Jenovi John Riggs who has gotten to play the system early with Tommy himself has confirmed it is indeed just a fancy RFID tag that you tap on the console, and it takes you to the download of the game.
The e-mail I received from Intellivision certainly wasn't clear about that. I mean, it is what it is, however, I don't have time to run the channel, raise my family, run my company, and then run down news on things that have changed with the Amico. I feel like the e-mail I received discussing preordering their physical games should have been a bit more clear that we were preordering digital games and paying a premium for the box and a card containing the code.
@@Jenovi Yeah, that's a bit scummy.
@@Jenovi That's fucking bogus.
That looks like very cheap packaging :/
I wish I could better explain the cheapness, but I think it's safe to say it's a step up from a junk mail flyer, but not by much. It's identical in form to the original Intellivision box. Those were kind of poorly thought out but build with solid construction. So you get the same poor design, but made extremely cheap.
@@Jenovi oof
It’s a shame they aren’t a little more polished at least. Thanks for taking one for the team and showing them.
It's disappointing on many levels. I can't imagine anyone receiving these and not feeling ripped off.
@@Jenovi yeah I was really expecting a little bit more. Especially with that “game card”. My expectations for these were low but I didn’t realize that they were going to be lower than my expectations. I hope you still get to enjoy it when it comes out.
@@Jenovi I got mine I think they are cool, kinda reminds me of nes boxes . But to be fair I haven't opened mine keeping them sealed
Then the trolls talking about the price of the games
8 games for $165 with shipping.
Then
8 games of switch is $400 + tax and shipping
Ps5
8 games
$500 + and plus taxes and shipping .
With amico you get a coin ,card and the RFID card that looks like the cartridge from back in the day they say, and this is the future NFT.
Then you got the switch
A tiny cartridge with nothing else
And the others xbox and ps5
CDS which is going out.
amico have some fun then move on to other things , life.
Ps5, switch ,xbox spending big dollars and turn into a zombie and staring at the tv 12 hours a day.
Not us . Amico Is great for some down time .
They have no

So I think amico is it.
kids should not play 12 hours a day .
Facts are facts.👌😎
My god 165$ for 8 cheap boxes, cheap coins and RFID cards. What a scam.
You can get a real Intellivision with 20 games for that price.
Then you got some troll videos that say look, look they are wearing intellivision shirts and hats thats sketchy lol
Really ?
Intellivision sells it on their site and sold thousands and thousands of their merch . Ofcourse you will wear it at their events
Just like concerts .
Man .they need help
😂👌🤦♂️
Fact.
I remember on Atari age at the time that people were defending these and it didn’t matter that they didn’t close because they grew up with games 30 and 40 years ago that didn’t always close. Pathetic.
Let's Go! Always appreciate your point of view. I know you'll say it like you see it. 🤟
Yeah that would drive me insane how they don't secure shut. What a shoddy cheap product
The worst crime possible IMO. I mean, a Velcro tab would have been a vast improvement over NOTHING.
@@Jenovi A pair of 3 cent magnets even...
@@Jenovi Yeah these are kind of a red flag, along with all of the other red flags. I guess I haven't followed the Amico enough to know that it doesn't accept any physical media. Seems like a huge miss - they could have really capitalized on the physical media trend the Switch has ignited. I would be on board day 1 for that, and building another physical collection. Granted the cost factor and implementing a physical format is understandably outside the scope of this project. The Amico is going to be Ouya level dead on arrival, just like the VCS. An interesting curio none the less, and I certainly very much look forward to any content you produce for it.
Just wrote this for another comment, but it's relevant here too.
@@Jenovi Yeah that's very deceiving, intentionally or not
I think the retro throwback style of the boxes and such are actually pretty cool. But I knew Tommy was lying out of his ass when he said there would be physical games. Looks like it's just a download thing to me. 🤷
Was never attached to the original box design, but they did use quality materials. I think the price charged for this package is unconscionable.
@@Jenovi yeah too much as far as what you're given, but I guess it's meant to be more of a collectible thing. They know most people aren't buying these, just the diehards.
@@TheLastLineLive I think it's meant to be a crowd funding thing... Tommy is a huckster.
@@retroprojections yeah I could see that. I'm sure we will still see it come out, maybe just to ensure a bit of a cash influx.
@@pferreira1983 per the faq on their website (which they should update):
Will there be physical games available for Amico?
Yes, certain games will be available in both our website store and as limited edition physical versions. We have something very special planned for our physical products; they will cost a little more than the digital versions, but will definitely be worth it. More details coming closer to launch.
wtf is an amico
Amoco gasoline or something prolly
Amico is a mental illness disguised as a video game console!
Thanks for making this video. Seeing the quality of the box alone really turned me off. Still excited for the system for the classics like Skiing, Astrosmash, Nightstalker - but definitely will not be doing a physical purchase thanks to this video.
And not a r4p3 simulator in the lot, see! Unlike that filthy ol' Nintendo Switch! Did you know if you attempt to play any Switch games in a couch co-op mode, Miyamoto-san will personally come to where ever you re playing it and fire you, the Switch and anything else that is family friendly directly into the sun?
Making the 32x look pretty good.
I mean, the 32X looks great compared to everything else, so maybe it was a bit unfair to include that box? 😉
I don't even know what Amico is and this video doesn't change that. I will google it.
Sorry about that. It was just a short video for some people asking about these. It wasn't really intended to relay any info outside a quick unboxing.
It's a new console from "Intellivision." It's had some controversies around it. From what I've heard I am not interested in it. From what I understand the system isn't even available yet.
You might want to refund them I'd that's an option. They're just a bunch of plastic that probably cost less than $10 to make in total if we're being generous. It's like limited run games but somehow at an even lower bar.
Err. Yeah. Not sure what was expected tbh. The intellivision was cheap crap the first time around too
Something closer to what was advertised and of quality justifying the marketing/price? That's about it I guess.
I wouldn't have minded one of them--but just one, and they don't sell them that way. Reason being, I don't believe it's actually coming out, and how cool would it be to have a Phantom or Indrema L600 box mock-up with coin?
I mean, that's what these are. Very odd to not offer them one at a time. Then again, how many folks outside of myself would have picked up the less desirable games such as the Brain Game? Not many is my guess.
I think they did a decent job of emulating the original look of the old Intellivision games and their boxes- no flimsy cardboard this time. 🤷♀️
The original boxes are much better built.
did u get the boxed variants with the inlay tray flipped? LOL
Wait…. What?
@@Jenovi lmao the tray inside has coin on top and game card on bottom, some have the card on top and coin on bottom and people are making a big deal about it LOL
So basically the packaging is like a clamshell CD case? So glad I didn't get into this.
I just rewatched the press
Conference when’re Tommy T claimed “no ports”, and here almost half of the games in this video are remakes and ports. Epic.
Be careful, Jenovi. Tommy Tallerico is known to have hissy fits over UA-camrs who give their honest opinions of the train wreck known as Amico.
Man. I'm soooooo glad I got my deposit back on my VIP edition. Can't believe I went along for the ride even that long. This is classic bait and switch tactics.
It would have been nice had they molded a whole plastic case instead of just the inlay. A regular clamshell case couldn't have been that much more than just the insert, but what are ya gonna do? It is what it is.
All I can do is just not purchase any additional ones going forward. The "Value" is 100% absent here, and anyone who tells you different to blowing smoke.
A physical release that doesn't have a real physical game. This is a pointless thing to make for a system that is 100% digital only.
So it wasn't vaporware. Was it, though? I'm not sure lol
System is not out yet, and the cards in the boxes contain no game data.
They are just glorified download codes more or less.
When you factor in the purchasing power of the Dollar is around 0.02c today compared to the creation of the Frauderal reserve in 1913, that makes this metaware even more..well 2021 ;)
Solid point
Maybe those games will become rare and expensive since I doubt the console will ever be released.
I had to laugh at using the most expensive 32x game case for size comparison
Even actual carts from evercade are cheaper
Just found this channel and I am enjoying catching up to current.
I like to spend money because I have more money than sense I just like to throw my money at anything video game-related.what would you call that group the Mindless consumer it just proves people will buy anything you're selling thank you for helping Tommy manipulate people by giving him money.there's a sucker born every minute.
Group 2 and their followers? Depends on why someone is purchasing these.
This looks like a scam. People need to stop falling for this crap.
Why are you excited for the system? you realize it has no good games, just super cheaply made mobile games and even those are still not ready, a few weeks ago they were still posting a video about tommy and the devs discussing how to implement the motion controls and stuff
I'm always excited for new hardware and games in a more casual space. In 2021, I'm most excited for the PlayDate, so I'm in a niche group. However, I try to avoid commentary on things I plan on checking out myself. I'm not following this as close as others appear to be and really shouldn't need to. Their marketing material and advertising is misleading. It's a massive problem in more ways than just a product that is of poor quality IMO.
@@Jenovi ah right, well, i look forward to your review about this product when it finally releases after the next big delay :)
delisted not
huh?
Oh the Amico comes with a copy of 32x Spider-Man web of fire !? It might be a good deal then. I kid. I'm definitely not interested in the system.
I mean, Spider-man Web of Fire is a classic........
Yeah, when that Spider man game at that price is a better value than whatever product you are selling. That’s just bad news
Nice flex with the rare Web of Shadows box XD :P
Thanks for sharing. Glad I was able to peep before you delist it.
Web of Fire ^_^' lol
I'm up about 4 hours earlier than I usually am and watching this was the first thing I did before getting out of bed. Am on autopilot right now haha.
Lol
Boom!
Received my shipment last night (haven't opened yet). My impression of the box quality from a sneak preview were that they were a sturdier cardstock - thicker than a Lynx or SNES box - but maybe that didn't translate from the prototypes. I get the balance of cost - slim margins for these at retail, so wasn't expecting a Limited Run bundle. Still, would've liked to see a little more artwork on the inside.. maybe a concept sketch in white of an arcade marquee, or sidepanel for each new game underlaying where the coin sets, a coin slot harkening to the coin as the arcade throwback. If they would've included a custom vinyl controller faceplate/skin it could've been REALLY interesting to see how these do with kids, since they have a whole line planned for those and customizing your controller per game has greater appeal there. Along with our demographic :-)
Would've made these physical editions more lucrative.
You ever leave a short comment?
Yeah, I have some major issues with how these were marketed in the e-mail I received. Poor quality, lousy design, no physical game (though it wasn't disclosed), and in no way something worthy or collecting. It's beyond disappointing. $10 for packaging that contains a hotel door entry card with a download code for a $10 game is insane. There's a ton they could have done differently to make these feel special, but these don't feel special, and I certainly won't be in the minority here.
So is that a cartridge? Or just something in the box to make you feel like you got more than a download code? I agree, not having a plastic locking clam shell was a huge miss. Now… if these games are only $20 each… maybe it’s just a “ya get what ya paid for” type of situation… and in that case, you can’t please everyone.
That a woodwooking bench in there, Jenovi?
Old drafting bench, though I do dabble in metal and wood work.
Sad vid
Game cards? That’s what they are? With a watch battery?
A coin, and card that feels like a cross between a credit card/playing card, and some other paper........ items.
the card has RFID, you hold it against the console as a kind of password, then the console will download the game.
they could just have sent out game-keys, but they wanted to dress it up a little with making dumb cards containing those keys as RFID info
why would you delist this? I think it's important people get all the facts before spending money instead of having to rely on people who only promote the amico because they worship tommy tallarico.
It's not quite in tune with my channel standards. I mean, I could make a proper video about these and some other massive issues I have with this, but it's not really something I'm into.
These people are supposed to know about video games, they know that gamers really appreciate the physical format that the games will be given and so they do this ... I don't get it, I guess it's due to budget.
Didn't they say the boxes were biodegradable too? That's gonna be a nightmare for preserving them in the future if they're supposed to be collector's items. It's like they *want* you to recycle them. For what it's worth, I think this video is worth keeping up just as a "caveat emptor" to anyone on the fence about these- regardless of any grief people may give you for it.
I don't think this system is going to be the biggest success, and Tommy's poor handling of criticism and subsequent bad PR are partly to blame for that. I feel like he's going to show up in this comment section at some point, haha. I hope the system doesn't fail and that you and everyone else purchasing one are happy with it, but I just don't see it succeeding outside of the small, dedicated niche that's hyped it up. I'd certainly love to be proven wrong, but everything about it just reminds me of when Butch Hartman was trying to make the Oaxis streaming platform a thing.
It would of been dope if they were resurrected Hu-Cards...
Why stop at the 32X? You should have replaced the Vita and Switch box with a CDi and Apple Bandai Pippin cases so we would be completely lost on the size comparisons of the Amico boxes.
If I do another one, how about Jaguar, Gizmondo, and GameCom cases instead? 😉
I can sell you my Sega Pico ROM collection as consolation, only 100.99 US dollars or iTunes giftcard
🤣 Just what I always wanted.
Even if it isn't a big video I would love to see your thoughts on the console when you do get it.
Earthworm Jim? 😏
Nice
PS5 and Xbox Series X have physical games that are also useless, because the real game will be delivered over months through patches. The game in the box is useless, you don't want to play that game, you want to play the one downloaded from the web.
That doesn’t make the physical useless.
@@BlownMacTruck I don't care, today I played Resident Evil 4 in VR on Oculus Quest 2 and that is the best thing I have ever done with in my life.
@@MarquisDeSang Ok? Do you often have conversations in complete non sequiturs?
Spider man 32x better then all those Amico games combined.
Ouch, Jenovi teeing new ones. Didn't seem that bad to me for shelf collecting but glad you tested this.
I have stronger feelings on this and they are not good.
Understandable, have a nice day.
I'm sorry they didn't turn out better, but the comments from your kids is priceless. Mine are younger but I look forward to them dunking on stuff I buy or care about for years to come lol
I'm disappointed too, not for myself, but that I would like to see this find success and this is not going to help. Having kids is great, just keep a tight relationship with them, try to have meals together, keep communication open, and take interest in their hobbies even when they don't interest you.
I find the physical versions very nicely designed. Compared to Nintendo, where this tiny cartdrige is simply on unprinted inlay... so I think the Amico games are really prettier.
Just looking at them, I felt the same way. However when you get them in hand, they have that cheap quality feeling only found in a Childs toy section at a dollar store. Also, not calling out that the "Amico Collector's Boxed Sets" don't include a physical game is very deceptive. I reread the sales e-mail a few times and it's not mentioned. There's no transparency here and that's a massive problem/red flag.
Oof
With every video made with such assertion and the plan to de-list and/or delete video evidence of albeit current, yet video game history has me questioning everything you've ever said about historical preservation of video games.
One of the oddest comments I’ve received. The video was requested by some subs after posting a short. The was me filling a request for my subs. It’s clearly not in line with the channel (I mean, it’s my channel, and everyone watches for free, so I decide). Save the link or re-upload if you like. Me unboxing a package others certainly received and will cover, then posting it in a temporary video, is not in anyway related to preservation.
They do look cheap. I bet most of the games themselves are roughly on par with mobile games of a few dollars.
Not being funny, it’s not terrible!
The games look fine, nothing spectacular but worth the investment in something unique
If the games turn out to be spectacular fun, then these would look slightly cooler to me
Much better off spending $164 on some stock or letting it ride on one hand of blackjack than betting your Amico games will become valuable
the switch box looks the same, flimsy lol
Amico you get
1. A coin
2. A card
3.a NFT card that looks like from what people say the original intellivision

"Get with the times."?! Hilarious considering Tallarico markets old tech, old ports on old hardware, ineptly like it is 1990. It takes a special talent to be that bad an executive.
There is no comparison between Switch games, and the utter garbage Intellivision sent out to everyone. There isn't even a game, nor access to one in these "physical products"!
