Destiny 2 Lore - Does "Ghosts of The Deep" show us how bad things are for the Lucent Hive?

  • Destiny 2's Lore and Story from the Ghosts of The Deep Dungeon might give us an idea of how bad things are for the Lucent Hive. The attempt to resurrect Oryx, The Taken King, is one of a few indicators that in the wake of Savathun's death, The Licent Brood is weakened and desperate. Ecthar and Simummah's plan to resurrect Oryx might also have helped us learn other things about the Lucent Hive's remaining Leaders.

It may not be out or the spectrum tbh. We know that Savathuns ghost got away, we may have her body in containment, that to me says we aren't done with her yet.
We just recently learned that even though Oryx is dead, he's still 'alive' in a sense. With the new dungeon centering around stopping the hive from reviving Oryx, while we did stop them, I think its entirely plausible that Oryx will return.
And with Xivu now coming into the fold, she's torn between her two sisters. She hates Savathun for using the light and breaking the sword logic, but she also holds Oryx in such a high esteem for his dedication to the sword logic, that shes so hurt that their traditions have been blasphemized she almost wishes that Oryx did come back.

    • @mobiuscoreindustries
      @mobiuscoreindustries Рік тому +8

@@stephentremblay1465 yeah but the Oryx that would come back, if resurrected by the light, would not have any of the context of the prior Oryx and it is actually likely he could have a bit of a "crow" moment. As in crew got his memories back but since he had the time to build up a new context and understanding of them, his interpretation of events would be widely different.
Look at Oryx. He held the sword logic, the darkness, the Witness, in such a high standard. To him they were strength and truth in equal measure. The hive were a doomed, weak race that lifted itself by the sword and became strong as a result.
But... That was with the context of the Oryx that rose from the ocean of fundament. The Oryx that would rise here would know that the Witness and Rulk crafted the whole situation. That the only truth that the sword brought was subjugation and the subscription to the endless blood tithe.
Oryx would be pissed at us for killing him and his brood, and his sister probably, he would be pissed at Xivu for being so utterly blind and lacking her own conviction, but would also despise his old self for being so driven to the furthering of a truth that was so incredibly wrong.

One of the big revelations from this new dungeon is that Ghost resurrection apparently can be combined with Hive Necromancy, to return to life a being that neither alone can accomplish.
It's apparent that neither one of those paracausal methods alone could bring back Oryx, but it looked like using both in conjunction was about to actually work (interrupted by the Guardian fireteam).
We don't know what the limits for it are, but it could potentially resurrect beings that were previously thought to have suffered the most final of "Final Death".
It's a very interesting idea. Now if only the Lucent Brood would work together with the great alliance of races that stands against the Witness. However, to me, it looks like this can only happen if/when Savathun returns; she's the only one with the authority AND foresight to call for an alliance with all the other races.. and basically have her brood shut up, swallow their prejudice, and join us. I can see this one final allied army making the alliance strong enough to face the Witness' forces directly, not in the least because it would have at its disposal the combined resurrection method described above.

My thoughts are that this may have been a back up plan of theirs in case savathun was defeated. This hinges on savathun knowing where oryx’s corpse was, which is very possible.
Step a) immaru attempts very quick escape if savathun is to die
Step b) either witness returns Titan at some stage (and they waited for this to happen to continue their plan) OR savathun was actually in control of Titan and planned its arrival this time after the events of TWQ
Step c) immaru commands the deployment of the ship to crash into Titan to action this ritual. Knowing full well it was destined to fail as she expected a guardian response that would succeed in stopping it.
Step d) due to vanguard uncertainty about the natures of the ritual, as well as various other “enemy of my enemy” situations going on and also the fact that we share a mutual goal of wanting to PROTECT the light/traveler that the vanguard ridiculously and actually authorize immaru to have contact with her for resurrection in some misguided attempt at another former-enemy-now-ally arrangement

I think what would be an interesting twist would be that if Oryx was resurrected, he would side with both the guardians and the light or simply become a separate temporary ally
Reasons being it follows his theme and nature he was defeated by light and dominated by it thus by his own logic he must submit to it and the ones who defeated him
Also through the books of sorrow, we originally learn that Oryx wasn’t as much of a domineering presence in the past and was not only against sword logic (verse 2:3) but originally was rather diplomatic and against concepts like genocide and total domination until being slowly gaslit tricked, and forced by his worm and his sisters into fully committing to sword logic (verses 2:4 to 3:8) in fact we learn in 3:4 that Oryx discovered that they were tricked and was placed into a constant loop of death and consumption for nobody's betterment than their worms which forced him into actually developing sword logic fully in 3:6 which he used to kill his worm, in 3:8 we even know that part of the reason that he kills akka is that the worm is a hypocrite and was desperately relying on him and the deep for survival and power so with this knowledge it's likely that seeing his sister submit to the witness who is just another being similar to him and Akka would likely trigger some form of PTSD and enrage him to the point of fighting against him especially if he learns that all his struggle was for absolutely nothing because he and his siblings were tricked into becoming pawns for the witness

I had thought it was implied from the dungeon audio logs that Xivu buried her brother on Titan rather than let him float through space. She mentions visiting his grave more than once. As far as I understand it, she honored his wishes and let him be "worm food" rather than go to waste in the vacuum. Definitely seems less ludicrous than any magic or gravity contrivance orbiting him all the way from the rings of Saturn.

It wouldn't have crashed into Saturn, not in 5 years - that's just not how orbital mechanics works. That's literally why space debris is such a big concern; we're concerned about it being around ("only") for centuries BUT Earth's debris is much closer and being dragged (and burned) by the atmosphere. The Dreadnaught and Oryx were nowhere near Saturn's atmosphere, so they probably would've last orbiting for as long as the rings themselves remain: at least tens of millions of years. Also, such a small 'kick' towards Saturn wouldn't be enough - that sort of thing happens all the time with the rings' objects when they collide, and they're still there. Furthermore, in the rings there are Shepherd Moons' and the Dreadnaught's gravitational influences to take into account, which would likely drag Oryx back up from lower orbits (as they're much closer).
Granted, falling into Titan is about as far-fetched or more than falling into Saturn, because it's super far up from the rings, but 'darkness gravity anomaly' trumps it I guess

Since Byf doesn't seem to want to search the aforementioned Royal Chase that explains why Oryx is on Titan.
Also, fun fact, a gentle push is not enough to decay the orbit of an object, even if thrown from something like the ISS. Astronauts of the ISS don't tether to the station during repairs to prevent them from falling back to Earth. They do it to prevent them from drifting away from the station into an independent orbit away from the habs.
I'm not sure why this has been so difficult to take into consideration for Byf.

Apparently, he never landed on Saturn but was in its orbit until the Witness took Titan. Although Kraken Mare has a lot of historical significance, I cant think of another good reason to hold down Titan like the Hive did without Oryx being there (perhaps it would be a similar biome to Fundament and thus good for colonization? Through lore they love eachother. Tough love but love nontheless. Maybe it's just Savathun wanting to bring her brother back as a main goal?

My interpretation is that everything going on right now is part of some grand plan by Savathun. She would know that her failure in Witch Queen was a possibility and thus would come up with alternative strategies. She knew some of what the Witness planned and the location of the Veil, so could probably surmise the current situation. If that holds true, then she likely knew Titan would return, and also about Oryx's remains. So, my theory is She left instructions for the Lucent Hive to go after Oryx knowing it would draw the guardians. They would likely sequester Oryx's body wherever the hid Hers away. Third step... Profit? Why she wants this to be the case I can only guess. It could simply be that when Immaru rez's her she's trusting Ikora to question her about Oryx only to use that as an ice breaker to start a different conversation. Whatever the case, I do believe that Savathun will be on our side, not as an ally so much as someone who shares an enemy.

I think you are on the right track, it might follow the story of the 3 sisters of the pit of heresy, where the mind of one was joined with the body of a 2nd to rival zulmak. Oryx Sav and Xivu can be exchanged for those characters in the same way

@Zac A I don't think it's related to other stories. I don't think it's that complicated. Sav had to know there was decently high odds we would end her. Immaru can't rez her cause Ikora probably has kill on sight orders. But, Oryx corpse that is alive, but with no worm, no consciousness, and the lucent hive trying to resurrect means if Immaru shows up Ikora would have to delay killing for the sake of gathering Intel. If I were Sav this would be my plan... plus, ya know, having Immaru bury himself in my corpses guts so he would be ready for the rez, but ya know that's just me

Isn't Morak the Acolyte boss from the lucent battle grounds in season of the risen? Morak the Lightstealer or something like that.

One thing i thought about that would be scary is that the luzent hive could have hid a 2nd ghost nearby as a failsafe if any enemy of the hive find them and try to stop it

Byf, did you read the lore of the royal chase scout rifle? My understanding of this lore would be a possible explanation of why oryx landed on titan.

Wasn't Morak the hive hunter boss at the end of one of the psi ops battlegrounds that we captured, and then subsequently died when Crow turned the Psion machine off?

I wonder if the necromancer could have gotten knowledge via the hidden boss as well, the "Acolyte of Nokris"
