Destiny 2 Lore - The Story of Luzaku! The tale behind our first Hive ally!
Вставка
- Опубліковано 9 лют 2025
- Destiny 2's Lore and Story from the Final Shape tells us about our first potential ally amongst the Hive. Her name is Luzaku and she's a rebel of sorts that has made her own choice to split off from Savathun's Lucent Brood. Her path led her to the Traveller's Pale Heart, where she is now guarding over a lost sector in the Blooming. She may the first of many Hive allies that we make. Regardless, this is her story.

I want more than friendly. I want marriage with her

Love that Mithrax refers to Luzaku as "Guardian" just like us and not as "Lucent Brood." It's really wholesome in a way.
To make it complete, she needs to use a gun or a boomer like we do.
i also really love how he was clearly hesitant first talking to her but the moment she drew the connection to his initial reception from the city he immediately opened up more. he knows what its like to be on that side of the dynamic
To my mind, Luzaku is not a Guardian. A Guardian is a Risen defender of the City. She is Risen, and she is friendly, but without explicit ties to the City she can't be a Guardian.
@@Noname72105 She's more of a Guardian of the Traveler rather than a Guardian of the Last City.
The interaction with her and Mithrax is my favorite
I love how simple Luzaku's refutation of sword logic is. Literally just "I don't kill, and I don't die" and thats it.
It's also a rejection of bomb logic, Lucy is seemingly searching for a secret 3rd Logic implied by her questioning "What else is there?"
I call is Stone Logic - to be the Unmoving and Unbreakable. The Finale Shape
it's so perfect because the way the hive see sword logic is basically the old "survival of the fittest" mentality that never takes cooperation into account. you don't need to destroy others to prove that you have the right to exist, others have the right to exist simply by existing.
I call it Based Logic
Well she doesn’t have to follow it bc she doesn’t have her worm anymore since she died
“What do you want to eat?”
Luzaku’s ghost: “THE SOULS OF THE INNOCENT.”
Luzaku: “A bagel.”
Ghost: “NOOO!”
Luzaku: “Two bagels.”
Hehe I get that reference
"This one would like a bagel"
...
"THESE ONES would like a bagel."

I just love how LITERALLY all of us instantly clinged to her
Right? I must say the writers have crafted something in this and it is one of the things that keeps me playing despite every experience I have had with the seeming apathy of Bungie's technical staff and their utterly uncaring customer support staff.

I LOVE HIVE WOMEN
It's a female Hive what do you expect
I actually got a conversation between her and savathun. Savathun actually congratulates her, because of all her brood- Luzaku was the only one who truly wants the same thing as Savathun. Freedom to decide her own story. To not be content in merely following behind a greater force, but rather making something of yourself by your own choices.

@@AssassinoJake If you return to the lost sector and do it again you will get that dialogue...

This was the most important conversation imho
So long as they prove worthy of trust, I think we can trust hive guardians. Just like Mithrax and his house of Eliksni. Or Caitl and the Cabal she commands. Just because we've been killing each other's kind for years, decades, or even centuries in some cases doesn't mean we can't make peace with individuals deserving of it.
Side note, I loved the Mithrax/Luzaku dialogue the most. Was a very nice touch that Mithrax didn't create a distinction between Hive and Earth-Born Guardians. Luzaku is just a Guardian to him like the rest of us.
How is this comment not getting more than four measly likes?
I’ve always ascribed to the idea that “the peaceful country ringed in spears” should accept all who ascribe to its peace, and reject all who do not, regardless of their history.
When I first did the Lost Sector she’s in, I saw her and I was like “Oh Neat an actually friendly Hive Guardian. FRIEND!”
Didn’t know she was friendly at first.
But I think she forgave my accidental rocket.
@@acat1167 I actually feel ashamed that I keep shooting at her. She really is a fascinating character and I hope there is more to her story.

There's one with Ikora and Luzaku where Ikora tells her of an Acolyte Lightbearer who spared Guardians and their Ghosts and wonders if she's the same one, apparently when she crossed the threshold, she was changed from an Acolyte to a Wizard.
I do like that, which gives me the idea that they all start as an Acolyte and crossing the threshold leads to what guardian they become.
Does this mean she can still use Blade Barrage?
@@L0rdDeLtAit’s the same for the regular hive too i think. knight morph (xivu wrath) or wizard morph(savathûn). It was always strange to me why lucent brood hunters retained their baby morphs. I imagine it’s because the king morph is exclusive to oryx. A lore restriction that affects game design.

She just switched class
It’s amazing how easily I can be won over by a character simply not shooting me in a situation where I expect it to shoot me… though just how cool and friendly she is definitely helps too.
We're so use to to being shot at and attacked on sight by the Hive that when you finally meet who doesn't do that it makes you pause for a second.
Follow by it talking and greeting you it makes you consider, do we have a ally/friend here?
Its how it went with me and Mithrax
i mean, that is exactly why there is so much intrigue behind the friendly harpies, and those barely interact with us besides not attacking us. so having a hive wizard not only not attack us, but also be friendly is pretty pog.
Destiny took all the way until Forsaken and the Spider's buddies to give us friendly AI, if I recall correctly, so it's still weird to stumble upon this. XD

@@_ybabruhnot to mention that with all this fighting, and even with the discovery of Neomuna, there's one thing that basically is uniformed across us all; we are all refugees from a war the Witness began. The Cabal losing Torobatl, the Eliksni losing Riis, us losing Earth to our own warlords, we all are born survivors of losing our worlds. Now that the Witness is gone, things can finally look up. As long as we clear up a few... loose ends first, starting with Nessus.

@@My0ldFr13nd Indeed friend, indeed.
Seeing as Luzaku is also voiced by Mara's voice actress, Kirsten Potter, she's literally just talking to herself in the lost sector
As for unique npcs talking to luzaku, ive gotten savathuun talking to her and that was really interesting. I dont remember all the details but she was praising luzaku in a sense. Saying shes happy she made her own choice, and hopes more will in the future.
A friend got one with caitel, and caitel was not very friendly with her, while luzaku kept trying to take the moral high ground in the conversation
The caital one is intresting. I wouldnt say Izuaku tries to take the high ground. Rather she says she shouldn't be blamed for what her species did. Caital is very venomous to her and even says "Your kind turned my world to ash, do not speak to me of forgiveness".

@@RuiNDieM1988 you know you drank too much of the KoolAid when not even the Hive you raised from the (un)dead laugh at your deranged jokes
This makes Luzaku all the more impressive in my eyes. The new influence she got in her ghost is pushing her even further towards what she was.
Though that might be what helped her recognize the problem. Ghosts and the light can be twisted by the sword logic, therefore a hive can reject it.
@@markmittelbach7975 That's a fascinating insight.
Mara’s interaction is so honest and vulnerable, I adore it
Mara Sov annoyed the heck out of me in this DLC.
The fact that Luzaku and Savathun are both present in Excision and Savathun didn't even say anything says to me that Savathun has further plans for Luzaku.
She talks with her at the end of the LS, and she's proud that Luzaku is one of the first to finally understand and make her own choices, rather than keep following the sword logic
Aye. I also think I saw a Lightbearer Knight fighting alongside us in Excision too. Meaning that there must be more Hive Lightbearers who are on a similar page as Luzaku when it comes to their attitude.

Best girl we need more luzaku in our lives
i think i like her so much because she just noped out of the hive dogma. It also makes me like Savathun more by extension. Given how many people (inlcuding myself) were like 'omg she's so cool i love her' i'd say Savathun was successful in yet another scheme, but i'd also assume she respects those under her who have different perspectives as she can use that to her own ends.
Most definitely. But also I think Savathun has a respect for people who walk their own path under their own goals, just as she is.
Ultimately while her brood serves her, it is evident she does not exactly care about them. And in return her brood seems extremely distant, mostly still tied to the logic and structures of their civilization, though the light has altered it of course.
When Savathun was gone, her brood went so far as to try and resurrect Oryx just to have a leader again, because fundamentally the hive is a very pyramidal structure and those under MUST receive their commands from those above.
This is, as far as we know, the first to break away from the old dogma in a fundamental way, one that embraces choice over certainty.
@@mobiuscoreindustries She definitely keeps me in the game, just to hear more of her story. Well, that and all of this amazingly creative team. I wonder why then there almost seems to be a desire on the part of Bungie's leadership to sour the experience. Or maybe I'm just colouring them with my own admittedly sour experiences with the bugs and the almost hellbent actions of Bungie's nearly non-existent customer service.
It almost staggers the imagination.
This one is pleased with your news. This one hopes for more.
There's one I keep getting with ikora, she asks if she's the same acolyte named luzaku that spared a guardian, to which she says she was reforged for a purpose and invites ikora to contemplate with her about why. Ikora awkwardly declines.
Luzaku is like that one enemy in a pvp game that t-bags with you and both of you burn friends and foes down, together forever
How she t-bag tho
I did get some dialogue between Luzaku and Savathún, and she mentions that Luzaku is the first one to truly "understand". Savathún also says something about the Hive having become a hierarchical mess, and seems to support Luzaku's decision, I'd go as far as saying she wants more of the lucent Hive to do much the same and make their own choices
Glad someone else got that too, seems like not too many people got that dialog. Felt like Savathun was happy to finally see one of her people finally make a real choice.
To be fair she’s not against Savathûn and therefore not an active threat to her plans, so I think she has no animosity. For now at least. With Savathûn I’m always suspicious of her feelings by her very nature, so I think taking this interaction with some salt is wise.
@@acgearsandarms1343 Very wise indeed.
Oh good, someone else has had this. I couldn't remember where the dialogue was and what was exactly said. It really seemed like the first time Savathun was actually proud of one of her brood
Well, based on the 4 interactions you showed us, I think Luzaku is having her "precursor" stage, she is looking for purpose for her " place in the universe " as she states it. However, its also clear she is not in a rush to find it. Furthermore, it seems she is a dreamer, she is able to contemplate the light and " see " multiple possibilities offered by the light.

Luzaku: Here drink this calming tea
Her ghost: *GET THAT SHIT OUT OF MUH FACE WOMAN!*
Luzaku: 😊 *slips tea*
Luzaku, to me, seems to be the character most adhering to what the gardener wants, with Crow being a close second. It would be cool to see her ascend in the Heresy episode and maybe she is the shake up on the hive pantheon
I have the feeling that while the biggest chance of Heresy being a sort of Oryx returnal (probably changed, such similarly as the dreadnought), if we get a dual heresy, both returning from the dead, and a Hive God that completely rejects the Sword Logic.
Also I've realized that the change the dreadnought is going through looks a lot not only like bones, but also like the damned wood of the silver tree so... Maybe whatever is happening with Heresy, maaaaybe let's say the possibility of a stray ghost making it to Oryx doesn't seem odd for me to happen
Plus, would make sense to that to be the test to Savathun and Xivu, Oryx back, but not as his old self, I mean, if he was actually resurrected during ghosts of the deep, he would be given basically context and information of himself, but if resurrected alone, without and inch of knowledge of himself and enough time for this Oryx to develop a new self, maybe that would be the Heresy itself, not only taking back from his true death a Hive God, but denying him his "King's Rights" or whatever.

I absolutely love Luzaku!! I didn't know I needed this!
I got a run through with Luzaku and Glint talking, he was really intrigued by her, and sounded like he was wanting to talk more about her experiences, which she was willing to do as well.
I remember reading lore about her before the release of The Final Shape expansion. I'm happy that she's in the game.
As far as I can remember there was also a dialogue between Luzaku and Ikora. I think it was about how Luzaku spared a Ghost as Acolyte, then turned into a Wizard later on, with ikora asking alot of Questions.
But Luzaku is easily the second best girl, right after Failsafe
There are actually two more conversations I found with Luzaku that didn't get mentioned in this video, there might be one with Zavala and Caiatl yet to be found but here's the ones I got. One is with Ikora who asks what changed Luzaku's perspective to which Luzaku says she doesn't know, but invites Ikora to contemplate with her. The other is with none other than Savathun herself, and what I found interesting is that Savathun doesn't say anything bad to her, but rather commends Luzaku for deciding to ally with the Guardians and seeing past 'The hierarchal mess' the Hive have become. Idk, I find the one with Savathun the most interesting one of all.
Yeah i got the savathuun one and found it very very interesting. Friend got one with Caitel and caitel was not happy or friendly with luzaku yet she was being friendly and trying to be on the more high ground regardless of the insults caitel threw at her.
Hopefully byf can listen to all of them eventually and give his thoughts on it.
I'm glad at least one hive stands up and say this isn't right
I got it to and that’s what made me think Savathune is encouraging individuality in her own way. She’s trying to give the hive back what they lost when the Witness tricked them, the ability to choose one’s own path.
I don't think I"ve done that lost sector any more than the couple times I've played through the campaign. It makes me want to just spend as much time as I can in that one small part of the Pale Heart, just so I experience this for myself :)
@@Sinestra00 They really do craft some amazing characters and I love every one of them.
I find it interesting how with humanity, Ghosts and Guardians tend to have very similar personalities. Ghosts and Hive however seem to be almost always at odds with each other. Savathun and Immaru are always arguing, Fynch refused to raise his knight, we've seen lore of one hive that wished to remain dead but his Ghost insistently raising him, and now we have Euloch and Luzaku with their enmity.

She’s instantly just such an interesting character that opens up so many possibilities. I love how her intuition resonates through all of her interactions with us and the other characters.
Byf, theres another rather interesting piece of Lost Sector dialogue between her and Ikora, in which Ikora mentions the events of the Lucent Tale, but states the Guardian she spared reported that Luzaku was an Acolyte. She questions Luzaku about why she is a Wizard, and Luzaku states that as she passed through the portal into the Pale Heart, the Traveler physically transformed her body from Acolyte to Wizard, for an as of yet unknown purpose.

Remember how in Season of Risen we learned that Savathun controls the Lucent Brood through Psychic Projections mind-controlling them… so, I suppose it’s safe to assume that Luzaku found a way to remove Savathuns Projections from her mind somehow?
I’d really love it if the Lucent Hive started to Evolve physically thanks to the Light. Remember that epic Moth People Concept Art? The Lucent Hive could change into them! Grow flesh, skin, Wings, fur. I’d love to see that!
This brings me to a related topic. Remember how in the Season of the Risen we learned that the Lucent Broods plan was to convert the Moon into a Lucent Hive and then bring Savathuns Throne World into it? At the time, we thought this was a “dumb plan” that may be set up to fail and not planned by Savathun. That cannot be the case considering Savathuns Projections were still mind-controlling them.
I think i figured it out: Savathuns plan was to trick the Traveler into entering her Throne World, then the Throne World would be fused with the Moon, granting Savathun abilities like the Dreadnaught (another physical Throne World)and remember how the Traveler can fire Light-Terraforming Blasts? I think Savathunwas going to use this to “Reterraform” Sol for the Lucent Hive! Savathun didn’t just want to hide, she wanted to win.
I can't believe just how much of this amazing story I missed by just taking a break from the game after Forsaken. I don't know why, I just stopped and walked away for a bit. I wish I could turn back time and replay all those story beats.

There’s a dialogue with Glint as well. TLDR: Luzaku and glint talk about why Luzaku refers to herself as “this one”, originating from her belief that each resurrection is a new person rather than the same person being brought back over and over again. Guardian: meets Luzaku.
Also Guardian: "She's my sister now"
There is also a dialog in the lost sector with Savathun where she literally says that it's good she chose her own path and that the hive don't need Savathun
This confirms what I've suspected that while Savathun still uses her brood I've felt like at the end of the day she's over being a queen and wants better for her species
savathun expects that the lucent brood would start going their own ways but will keep using the fanatical bunch too for her own agenda
I'd really like to see a moment where our new Hive Guardian gets taken down by something, and we have to hold to revive her manually, and we get that little moment between she and our guardian.
Two important ones that you didn't get here is Luzaku conversing with Micah 10 and, more importantly, one with Savathun. You should really try and get footage for those ones, cause it's *crazy*.
I was just running through this lost sector again for a quest and I was like imma need some lore behind this friendly lucent hive. She’s so cool!
Not only can I trust Luzaku, I want to get her a comfy sweater, sit down with her and have some tea while reading manga. I'd like to think she'd enjoy reading some yuri.
I think she'd enjoy reading in general. Well, reading Earth literature. The Books of Sorrow are great and all, but they get kind of old after a while.
This One is most intrigued by the Earth illustrations Guardians... *looks at page to see Nyan-cat pose*
I’m gonna be so emotionally hurt if something happens to her or she’s been playing us for Savathûn
luzaku best girl
Guardians make their own fate, even Hive Guardians.
Goated hive
Luzaku to me represents the hope that the lucent hive may abandon the bladed path entirely. the investigation within the lore about a thrall that seemed to withhold its tithe revealing that savathun has become a wellspring of light and that light flows down the tithing system like a river gives me similar hope.
the lucent hive are something new, and the old ways only hold them back. it's good to see one of them realize this.
Mommy Luzaku 🤤
Someone's thirsty.
I suppose you were inevitable🗿
Grandma savathun?
real

I love that Luzaku made a choice to try peace with us and it worked in her favor, and ours too!
You probably already discovered it at this point, but there is a couple more interactions, one with Caitl, and one with Glint. Glint's is a more curiosity driven one, but Caitl makes it clear she has no interest in an alliance of any sort with her.
No clue if I was too tired and was dreaming I got a dialogue with Luzaku and caital over luzaku being not part of the hive and caital being angry and one with savathun praising her being the first of her brood to separate
That's real
I LOVE Luzaku, the possibilities for story with Friendly Lucent Brood is out there now and I am all for it.
I wonder if one day in the future she makes her own brood of radicals
Can we just appreciate how Byf keeps making the experience of watching the videos better and better by voice acting and sound effects
I have been waiting a long time in hope of a friendly hive. Hive guardians opened up the door to that possibility and now we see it with Luzaku. Only time will tell just how friendly she actually is, but I believe in her. Plus, I don't want to make a completely immortal hive mad at me! What do mean she isn't? I unloaded all my rockets into her and she yet lived! I, uuuh, blamed that one on the taken...
When I ran the lost sector again Luzaku had a conversation with Savathun, they talked about how Luzaku broke out into becoming an individual instead of part of the whole brood. I think Savathun also mentioned that she wants this to happen, to have the hive become their own individuals instead of relying on senseless violence and sword logic. Basically a conversation of Savathun inciting curiosity and retrospection in Luzaku and asking her to keep thinking and keep being doubtful and curious
Afaik there's at least 3 more you haven't seen, with Savathun, Ikora, and Zavala. I think there may be dialogue with Caiatl and Micah but I'm not sure yet.
It's unfortunate you missed the one with Savathun as I'd argue it's the most important and gives us more real insight into what Savathun actually wants.
She explains that she's proud of Luzaku, because of all the lucent brood, she's the first to truly understand. To have the freedom to make her own choices, and that the hive don't need her anymore, that they were always meant for something greater than the "hierarchal mess we've become".
It's hard to say if Savathun truly planned this or not, because in truth the entire point is that they had to make this choice of their own volition, otherwise they'd simply be following the paradigm.
savathun speaks with her in the same lost sector and tells her that she’s proud that luzaku has found her own voice and was actually shocked about it. im not entirely sure if it’s a scheme but luzaku wasnt too keen on speaking with her
I just notice the theme of deserters/diferent perspective of the old ways that our allies of different species share with Caitl, Mithrax and now Luzaku
(Next is a spoiler for TFS campaing)
Even the witness had voices that were against itself
Luzaku was something I wasn't expecting, but definitely welcomed, and I would love more Hive like this. Not exactly being our allies but choosing not to be our enemies, anymore. Choosing their own "truth", like Luzaku did.
What if we find a Hive Hunter that abandoned their brood for loot! Traveling everywhere looking for cool stuff they consider cool loot. Even using our weapons and Exotics, and maybe having some unique Hive ones.
What if we find a Hive Titan that found something they want to protect. Maybe their own small brood of Hive, stuck somewhere, and they wish to protect them.
What if we find another Hive Warlock, but one that abandoned their brood to learn more things everywhere. Not for any strategic reason, but fo a inner desire of WANTING to learn.
Personally I think it would be great to find more Lucent Hive finding their own truths in their existence, and if we can finally add "Hive" in Team Coalition, I'm game.
Some how we listened to every dialogue I havnt heard, and not the only one I’ve heard where Savathun is actually kind of proud of Luzaku for making her own choices, her own fate if you will
