Love the workflow Jared! I would have liked to see a bit more set up on the subsurface profile in unreal, setting that up always feels like guess work to me!
Ya, for this character it was just about establishing a base line on how much scatter was gonna happen. Then using the map to balance it out. But maybe at some point i can put together a quick vid!
thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you i remember pleading with the gods for this exact video during the original modeling/texturing series on it. thanks!
damn I could really use a breakdown of your unreal material setup for the sss, when I try to do the subsurface profile I can't see where I'd be able to plug my scattering texture in
I'm a junior character artist in the gaming industry. I hope you put out a 30 + hour course on how to make this creature from start to finish. I'll buy it in a split second since this is the level I want to reach asap
Awesome tutorial! If I wanted to have, say, the alien's internal heart be glowing and cast light through the torso's sss, how would I best handle the actual light source? Could I just slap an area light into the chest cavity and parent it to the model in engine or Marmoset etc, or would I want to have the "heart" inside the chest have an intense emissive map and be part of the actual model itself?
@@jchave7 ok awesome. I figured out what I wanted to know. specifically where to connect the scattering map. now I see when you use subsurface profile shader there's a Curvature pin that appears in the material node
Is there any chance u can share or record something abt the subsurface material in Unreal? i have my setup with subsurface profile but the mask doesnt work when i plug it to opacity channel
Hello, I got a question. Do you have to be really good at drawing before jumping into zbrush sculpting? I'm asking cause I wanna get into 3d but I've been told that I need to draw first before sculpting. Not that I'm against drawing but I just want to be sure.
Not sure what you mean. Do you mean export? You export out a scatter map, but you aren’t baking anything except a thickness map as a starting point, but you don’t require that
Probably the best subsurface tutorial on the internet. And exactly what I need for the latest character I happen to be working on!
🙏🏽🙏🏽 glad to hear!

Great tutorials. Thank You for sharing the knowledge.
wow this shading is insane
Thanks!
After doing Hardsurface for 14 years, I got curious about the character and came across this video. It was a great piece of information, thank you.
Glad to hear! 🙏🏽🙏🏽

🤘🏽🤘🏽 hope it helps!
You are honestly my main inspiration for texturing now. Keep it up dude you're actually amazing!!
🙏🏽🙏🏽 thanks!

On my list!
what a beautiful model and texture!
Glad you like it!
Every time so nice modelling and texturing . so cool!!!!
🙏🏽🙏🏽
Nicely done Chavez!
🤘🏽🙏🏽
You have outdone yourself peter!!
🤘🏽🙏🏽
Amazing Result! So well thought out!
🙏🏽 thanks Prashan!

The making of this character and more are available to members on the channel
Nice video man, love the light on this scene as well, can you showcase that in a future video?
Ya, I’m gonna be making that next! 🤘🏽
Awesome info man! I am a sucker for good SSS
🤘🏽🤘🏽 aren’t we all!
Jaredddd Lets go ma boy!
🤘🏽🤘🏽
This is dope!
🤘🏽
In Unreal Engine 5 where is the SS map connected in the shader, before using the SS Profile?
wow

hi, maybe you have the whole process of texturing allien, full timelaps video of the process.
I do, it’s currently available to the members!
nice! can you put the SSS ue5 shader for sale on gumroad or artstation? i wanna buy
Bro, if someone speak to me that is canonic, im will believe
hey man, can we take a look at your shader setup for this ?
May have to do a video on it 🤘🏽

man please give us back , the live uncut video of this character, i can't find them anymore in your channel ?
It is still up there, it’s available in the members section. All past live streams and full character recordings are available under them!
How much time has been done to the project since starting?
50 to 60 hrs maybe? Just a guess

Ya I need to make something about that!
@@jchave7 found out eventuallly that SSS map need inversed colors compared to substance :D

No, you don’t need to know how to draw to do 3d. It will help you in the long run, but isn’t necessary
what am I going to bake in order for me to apply that on Unreal Engine?
