Amazing video, i always struggled with superman as a character but thanks to these awesome pro tips i've been dazzling people left right and center all day long. i even got a gf and my family is talking to me once again, thank you mr McFarlane!
So this 'ear' that you talk of. Is it a made up thing? Cause I looked in a mirror and noticed on the side of my head I have these "ears" in the exact same place as your drawing. Does that mean I'm a superhero
Amazing how UA-camrs who contribute nothing to society of actual value have millions of subs, and yet this legend doesn't have at least a million. Something is very wrong in the world today.
On one hand, Mr. McFarlane's sarcasm in this video makes me giggle. On the other hand, I think Superman in fact IS one of the most unique looking Superheroes out there. Like Mr. McFarlane said, just draw a handsome face and a red cape & blue suit and everybody's like "yeah, that's Superman" without any chance of confusion.
It's not that has a unique design but its one of the most known super heroes I mean being as popular as he is when you see his colors on a suit the first thing that came to your mind is superman but when it came to technical design it's nothing out of the world you can draw every handsome face in the world and as long as it has the suit and muscles that's it superman
@@Ducktaro to be fair, he was the first one to do it that way 🤷 Superman isn't exactly a new character. He did it first. If you want to call Superman unoriginal, blame all the heroes that copied him after
I'm a cartoonist since I'm a kid and I draw on Photoshop since 2001. I also use a Cintiq tablet like Todd is using but a different model (a 13HD touch). Please allow me to give few technical tips to artists who are using Photoshop to improve the quality of their lines and to save a lot of time to switch tools way more quickly. First of all if you draw on photoshop or any other program, it's a must to use a drawing tablet. You don't necessarily need a tablet with a screen like this one we see in this video. There are some great artists who don't even like those. But you need a tablet which you feel comfortable with. I recommend a Wacom one but another good one can do the job. Make sure you have some pen pressure on it. Remember that if you take this seriously like I do, this tablet is an investment so don't try to cheap buying a crappy one from and then few weeks latter you gonna regret it and think you should have bought a Wacom one... Now let's say you have your tablet and Photoshop and you are ready to draw.... Look at this sketch from Todd and notice how the lines are different from each other in term of thickness. Some are thin and some are thick. Todd is not readjusting the size of his brush all the time using the '[" and "]" keys. He's using pen pressure. This is very important! To do so, in Photoshop, select the Brush tool and press "F5" to go in the Brush menu. Once you're there, Check the first option line:" Shape Dynamics"and click on the Lock symbol to unlock it. Then at the right, right from "Control", put it to: "Pen Pressure". You can also put a minimum of Size Jitter. I put mine at 7% to make sure my lines are not too thin and visible enough. I do the same with the eraser. Also, I'm left handed and I feel better doing some lines from up to down or from down to up than from left to right and from right to left so I do not hesitate to rotate my canvas. To do so, pres on "R" to rotate your canvas the degree you want. Here's one more thing: When you draw you want to be able to switch from tools to tools as quick a possible. A big keyboard means long movements with your free hand that doesn't hold your pen. I hate the shortcut keys on my Cintiq. First cuz there are only 9 including which is really not enough. Also cuz I don't see them well, they are black on a black background and the rocker keys often make some mistakes. They press on the wrong buttons. The ultimate solution I found to quickly change tools in a matter of microseconds is to use a wireless Xbox 360 game controller with receiver which I only pay 50 bucks CAD and using a small program called Xpadder which is amazing and free. This program allows you to associate all the keys of your 360 remote to any key of your keyboard. There are 24 keys including the ups, downs, rights and lefts of the 2 thumb sticks. For example I use A for the Brush, X for the eraser, Y to rotate, B for the color picker, right trigger to increase the size of the brush and the eraser, right button to decrease, Start for undo/redo, select to put my canvas on full screen, left pad to fill, Right pad for color switch, down pad for the lasso, up pad for the stamp, left button for the line, left trigger for the pen tool. For the button on the pen I use the down key key to zoom in and out ( CTRL + Spacebar, you can zoom in and out super fast with this) and the pen button up to pan.
Spending 50 dollars instead of just using a wired controller with the correct drivers lmao you got mugged off son. If also a controller is retarded in the first place, learn the shortcut keys and just use the keyboard with your empty hand, problem solved. You're so illogical.
This might the most passive aggressive drawing ever - I love it!
Toddys Sarcasm level is at 101%
"It's all about the *red* (points at blue) and *blue* (points at red)"
I luv it.
Hahaha Todd man, you hilarious. Love these videos, I just wish they were longer.
Check Out My UA-cam Channel Errbody!!
I'm inclined to believe that Todd doesn't like superman xD
He actually likes him, he's one of his inspiration for Spawn. Superman's at the source of every comic book superhero.
Ok
Peter Stellenberg except those who came before superman
EnderCraft he was the first one
newparkshire mandrake the magician came 4 years before superman was a super hero with the power of make people believe anything
Even though this is a joke video, i mean, drawing hair like that with the lasso tool is a great idea! I will try this myself.
My gosh .. cant believe I'm just discovering this channel now. Very entertaining and you were always my favorite comic book artist.
Awesome to see Todd McFarlane drawing. Thanks for going through the steps of your creativity.
Too good. Todd is the best

B-rad M damn right
B-rad M yes
I was wondering the same thing
"It's an ear" I love the passive aggressive quirkiness.
Until you put the red and blue in I just couldn't see how that could be Superman. All I could see was Clark. Amazing!
the way he makes hair is awesome
That ear joke got me 😂

He's having so much fun I love it
this video will be very useful for aliens

How’s it doing these days, if you don’t mind me asking?
@@AkitsunesceilingfanI hope our friend here is doing better than ever
Anyone else want Todd to do a Superman comic
I never knew he was so funny.
This guy is hilarious, so ironic (in a funny way). Love it.
Love watching these videos
A good looking hero is groundbreaking
I love his art style.
Todd's hit the sauce.
i've got the feeling he is still getting better!
I appreciate how undeniably underwhelmed he seems
Those meaty ears, Todds signature
we want more!
This is blasphemy! Its madness!
No......
THIS
IS
SUPERMAAAAAAAN!!!!
You have a great personality!😂
really surprising asked me what a Superman figure designed entirely by the amazing Todd Mcfarlane would look like

Hi Todd, what type of drawingtable and software do you use? Love your drawings! :D
Looks like a cintiq 24, very old model and crazy heavy. I'd get a huion or a cintiq 22.

What a wonderful weirdo.

don't worry guys he doesn't have an apple in his throat!
RevolutionaryComics He doesn't!?
Yeah, Superman face is just a generic man's face, but still so funny especially with "google the ear" joke 😂
He has this thing on the side of his head its called a ear...you can Google it later.
So much sarcasm lol
I honestly can’t tell if he’s being sarcastic by title
Kablam!!!!
lol ( little bit of bad boy )
Whamo !!
funny
😂😂😂👌
Todd you need to teach me how to draw....😂
Todd you sound tired bud
hahahahahhahaha XD
😂😂😂😂
He either doesnt like Superman's design, or he really didn't want to do a presentation on Superman's boring ass design.
Way too many foreign words, I can't be expected to learn the entire dictionary in order to draw
Reminds me of micheal scott
Lololol
lol he has an ear, also he has a nose
Is McFarlane drunk?
