- Some people hate their Jeeps. The point of this video is to keep people from making bad purchasing decisions. These ten items could bother you a lot, better to figure it out before you put down a lot of money on a Jeep. I don't hate mine, but there is definitely some aggravation in a lot of these sections. Stay till the end where I mention why I put up with all of this.

My girlfriend and I just watched this entire video. You had her laughing out loud over some of the reasons. I bought mine 4 months ago, just a 2016 sport S 2 door. Storage was #1 frustration and the back seat was totally useless. I removed the backseat and installed a baja basket by synergy. It was expensive but a solid well designed piece of steel. We live in the mountains of north ga and I have to say, despite the design limitations and the other frustrating things I've discovered no other car I've owned is as fun as my jeep. I love taking the doors off and keeping the freedom panels on while cruising on a mountain paved road. We've taken it offroad a few times over the last 4 months but on stock friendly trails. I've already put 10k miles on it and I also work from my home office. I've watched a few of your vids and just about everything you say is spot on with my observations of jeep ownership thus far. Looking forward to watching the rest of your videos. BTW what camera are you using for your jeep vids? I'm considering buying a gopro to film our adventures with. Perhaps do a video on that if you havn't done so already. Thanks and keep making these vids, more people than you know appreciate them.
Thanks Randy! I'm glad your girlfriend laughed. Hopefully it wasn't because you chose the Jeep over the ring. Ha. I use a few different cameras for videos. For the good stuff I use a Canon 5D. I was lucky enough to have been able to pay it off with some photography jobs I did. It is a luxury to have it, and the look of it is hard to recreate, though definitely not impossible. I also have a Gopro 3 and an iPhone that works very well. I would not recommend the GP3 it locks up a lot and is a beast on battery. I really use my phone more, just because I get instant feedback and I can nail down the exposure. I will definitely make a video on photography and video. Photography has been very important to me over the years and I am really starting to like video too. Thanks again for the comment and thanks for watching!
The people who complain about a jeep being 'uncomfortable' or getting poor fuel economy are probably the same people that complain about a bar smelling like cigarettes...

Uncomforable noisy Lousy milage and Rot/ rust buckets over valued and over priced. Jeeps are the kinda vehicle ya lease and get rid of in 2 or 3 years before it starts milking you dry
@@zilch7116 What planet have you been on? Let me know what jeep you find that’s cheap compared to other standard vehicles and let’s talk. They’re pretty damn expensive man. And they hold their value better than any vehicle on the market.
@@TheDman216 The rock and rust all depends on how you take care of it. And that goes with any vehicle. I drive a 2016 four-door JK and it’s way more comfortable than my old Toyota Tacoma it is a little worse on gas mileage I will admit that, But it’s also a hard top and really not all that noisy at all. Soft tops are a little different. But if you buy a soft top, you know a little of what you’re getting into. If you’re looking for negativity, you’ll find it.
Great idea buy a jeep raise it 5inches put 37inch tyres on it so the nagging wife can't get in. Then you can go 4wheeling without her and enjoy it more. I'm gonna buy a jeep now. Cheers

You make some great observations that might not be obvious to people who don't already own a Jeep. There are a lot of newer Jeeps on lots so they are not for everyone. Good video!

The 2 door pre Wranglers & Wranglers aren't for everyone. Real Jeepers understand this and don't complain, it's a part of a great commitment with your Jeep. The pros are exclusively Jeep. And by that I mean a soft top 2 door Jeep with round headlights, the freedom to go wheelin on a trail, beach, dune, snow trail, mountains with the doors off and top down. I couldn't imagine driving anything else. A true Jeep has the Willys MB configuration. Everything else is just apart of the Jeep misc line. So don't get angry if you don't get the Jeep wave. Honor the Willys MB Jeep configuration by getting yourself a true Jeep. 🇺🇸🇺🇸
I've never realized the relationship between impracticality and that "special" car feeling, but that's true for all of my special cars, they were all impractical yet very capable in impracticable ways. I think lends to their "character" or "personality".
Everything you said is spot on! I could add many more. Even with that, I LOVE my JKU. In fact it's my second Wrangler and looking forward to the new JL with diesel engine. Despite the shortcomings, I love my Wrangler! Good video. Despite its flaws...the Jeep to the most FUN you can have.

I agree with the statement that you buy a vehicle for a purpose, a sports car is a sports car, a truck is a truck and a jeep is a jeep!
When I was in my twenties and was buying a corvette I asked the seller what gas milage it got (LOL). He said, stop right there! If your asking questions like that you don't want this car!
A jeep is a jeep, and when you buy it you should know its advantages and limitations and accept both as part of the deal.
Its not a honda, but you won't see many hondas where jeep will go.

Marissa Aiello only thing I complained about was the front door leak when it rains and so I so a video of an owner who did that, I took the front carpet out now I laugh to see how big of a puddle I got and I just pull the drain plug
Yeah I agree with your points....but I researched it before buying so I knew going in.
They did at one time have skid plate for oil pan but it was overheating and catching fire. Rust - Plan on taking mine to Maaco and see if I can get it rust proof sprayed. Traction control and not being able to do donuts - it's kinda a joke among "Jeepers"...we know it's ability for traction and the reason why we can take it in the mountains and not get stuck....it's an asset. Windshield - yeah, and to replace the original (because it has the Jeep inlays) can cost over $1,000.
With all that being said....It's a JEEP!

well first off for the insane money people pay for theses things the under body and frame should have been done right with a high quality coating like a por15 from the factory..
This video is very good for a first time jeep owner. Most people buying a jeep wrangler would be much better off getting a Cherokee or Grand Cherokee. You really have to like the minimalist/simplistic features and rough ride. it truly is a purpose built vehicle. I love it but it's not for everyone.

great points, I can't argue with any of them. I'll even add, doors are hard to close. Wife and kids usually have to slam doors a few times to close. Windshield is flat like you mentioned, but takes a lot of rocks, bugs, dings, and cracks.
I agree about the hard to close. It is the weather sealing. If the windows are down, everyone slams the doors. Bang! When they are rolled up, the last one to close the door needs to do it harder than the rest. Who knows if two people slammed their doors at the exact same time the windshield would probably crack. JK , but you never know.
Great information! After seeing this I think I'm more suited to the Jeep Grand Cherokee Trailhawk. Most of my driving will be on the highway. And I wasn't planning on doing any serious rock crawling. So maybe the Wrangler is not for me. Thanks for taking the time to make this video.
i have had my two door jeep for two months now. still getting used to it. the storage sucks, getting in for my short wife is difficult, upgrades are expensive, but i love it! jeeps are not for everyone.
I own a 2007 Jk x 4 door and I love my jeep. When I buy a vehicle I buy it for its intended purpose. You do bring out alot of good points that people who are considering purchasing one should consider. The only two real complaints I feel Jeep should address is its electrical system and the death wobble issue. Other than that all other things are minor inconviences. All my broken windshields have been on the hiway and none came from dirt roads. I generaly dont drive fast enough on dirt to be a problem. My road had been covered in loose gravel for 15 years now. I use the foor wheel drive all the time and the doors spend alot of time stored in my garage. Jeeps are not for everyone and yes my wife hates mine but that is not a bad thing. I bought her a 2012 Huyndai Santa Fe and noe she is happy. I did enjoy your review and it should help people determine weather they should buy one or not. BTW every vehicle I have owened has had its own unique problems. I also drive alot of miles and my jeep had 73,000 miles when I bought it six years ago it now proudly sports 222,000 miles.
the rust is a real problem. my '17 jeep has 3,800 miles and the entire underside is coated in surface rust. it's inexcusable. my 16 year old civic with 230,000 miles doesn't have any rust
I was thinking about buying a preowned jk for some time but found it increasingly hard to find any info on actually owning one, thanks for the info man

In regards to the removal of the rear doors, if what you're referring to is the removal of the plug and cloth straps, there is a small panel on the inside of the B-pillars that comes off exposing a much easier way to remove those two components. Not sure if you knew this already, or if this is the difficulty you're referring to, but it wasn't mentioned in the video. Helping fellow Jeepers out. Keep the quality videos coming, brotha.
David, Yeah, I got it electrically disconnected ok and took the nuts off the bottom. It was the hinges. I think they are not perfectly lined up and there is a lot of tension between the two hinges and the door. I tried to lift off the door, I tried a floor jack underneath with a block of wood, I tried penetrating oil, the only thing that worked was putting a blunt chisel and tapping it into the gap between the top of the hinge pin and the hinge. Once I got it to move a tiny bit, I was able to lift it off, but it probably required 150lbs of force. Second time I took it off it didn't require the chisel, and it lifted off with about 75lbs of force. After that it was a little better still.
The number one reason to loathe Jeep is not the vehicle itself but the MAJORITY of their owners, particularly wrangler owners. They tend to be cocky, arrogant, misogynistic/sexist, prejudice, ignorant, self righteous, hateful, judgmental individuals that get butt hurt/offended easily even by the slightest of criticism. The list goes on and on, there's just too much. Just look at the UA-cam comments for just about anything wrangler related. Aside from that, subpar reliability, quality, safety and shitty public relations between Corporate and consumers, wranglers are nice and it's nice to see their loyalty and sense of community and adventure. All the aforementioned needs to go and all is golden.
Svensk46 thanks for the comment. I have had a lot of positive comments to my videos, even ones that are critical of the Wrangler. There are many Jeep owners that are exactly like you stated above, but from what I have seen it isn't the majority, just a vocal minority. I try to leave all comments, positive and negative to my videos. They aren't cherry picked. The only ones that I remove are comments with profanity, or personal attacks on me which are completely unrelated to the content at hand. In total there have only been about 5-10 of those comments, and usually they are from some user named something like Satan'sTroll666 or some other telling name like that. Are there issues like you mentioned with the Jeep community? From the wave's I would say no. But maybe I will have a different opinion after I take my mostly stock Wrangler to the Easter Jeep Safari. It should be interesting.
Cool Video... you pretty much nailed it on the head... but for the record i love my Jeep Rubicon, they will have to pry it from my dead hands before i let her go, lol... Unfortunately people want the best of everything and with the Jeep there is very little gas mileage, especially when your off-roading? I have a Rhino Rack system Rear Swing out Spare wheel bar with Jerrycans a Front Bar with Warn Winch 3" Lift and 35" tIres. I get 13mpg around town and if i keep it around 65-70mph i get 15 unless there is a headwind then forget about!!! It's a brick on wheels.
Owning a Jeep is what it is. Like you said it's rough, clunky, underpowered but that's what i love about my Jeep. I can literally turn any highway and hit a trail or side road and go bush.
I am older so i waited and waited until i could afford it and get what i wanted.

Excellent points. I completely agree. I have an eleventh reason to add. The rear subwoofer. I opted for the Alpine premium sound system when I was ordering my Jeep JK Unlimited. Love the sound system but the subwoofer takes up all of the hidden storage compartment in the rear floor of the jeep. I recently looked into installing sliding drawers in the rear cargo area but this subwoofer prevents any modifications. Without the Alpine sound system, I believe that I would still have a problem as the larger subwoofer would be located near the passenger side just in front of the rear tailgate. Love my Jeep to bits but the rear subwoofer is my arch enemy! ;)
socksandtea, thanks. Yeah good point about the subwoofer. Though, if you didn't go with the Premium sound, there is no subwoofer. Well in my 2015 there isn't one. I have a Rubicon with the 130s head unit. While I would like the extra bass, I guess I don't really miss it.

With the windshield issues , the hood bouncing as you pass a semi , Rust , etc , etc , etc. Wow... bummer !!
My wife had a 1987 Ranger when we got married and it was a true riding jeep and we had fun when it wasn't broke down.
But now , many years later , I had been really looking forward to owning my own brand new jeep , but I'm really considering things.
There are other options I might start considering. Thanks for taking the time to do this review.
Go take a Rubi out for a test drive. Then you will know. If you can walk away at that point then you don't have to look back. I just had my windshield replaced. It cost me $499. It sucked, but I got to drive a Jeep to the Arctic ocean and back, and nothing else broke.

That's what I plan on doing.
I use to work heavy highway construction and I can't tell you how many times the company I worked for paid to have windshields replaced because one of our triaxle trucks kicked up a stone. They were a good company and didn't even try fighting it , they just paid for a replacement windshield.
Great video! Never thought about the effect of the flat windshield on cracking. I wonder if there is any film that can be placed over the windshield to act as a protectant.
I have heard there are films and even replacement windshields that can be resistant to cracking due to rocks, but I have also heard these aren't good because first responders sometimes have to extricate people through the windshield, and they can't do it with too tough a window in there. Also if the windshield is softer, like lexan, the windshield wipers eventually take their toll on it and cause scratching and then you need to replace it for that. The JLs have a slightly more sloped windshield, not sure if it is enough to help though.
Some folks adapt, most folks don't!

I had a Jeep Cherokee, Trailhawk, Trail Rated, 2015, fully loaded with all the bells and whistles you could dream of. I loved it but it was not really a "Jeep" as the one you describe in your video. So I changed it to a 2017 Jeep Wrangler Sahara Unlimited. What a difference in comfort, style, handling and all the different things you mention in here which by the way are all true. But...................I would not go back to the Jeep Cherokee unless I wanted to use it to commute as well as use it a lot in the city. People who buy a Wrangler normally will know what to expect as far as gas mileage goes and all that stuff you're talking about. I think that these negatives, as you mention at the end, are only small irritants that one can easily get used to when you think about all the fun you can have with a Jeep. I look at the BMW's, the Ford Mustang, the Lexus and all these very luxurious cars on the road and I swear I wouldn't change my Jeep for any of them. They might be very comfy but they will never give me the fun Off-Roading brings to me. As they say about a Jeep Vs all these sports and luxury cars: "You may be faster and prettier than me but you can't follow me where I go." Bye Bye baby!
Good pointing out the heavy rust on a near new jeep undercarriage. I HATE to see it.
I've adapted to the quirks in the Jeep. The problem areas, I've modified to make things better.
sounds like everything I love about my jeep lol. being able to remove the top and doors and all the options you can attach to it, being able to go places most vehicles can't, easy to work on and parts are cheap and you find them everywhere. it's like an AR15 with all the rails to attach all your tacticool gadgets. gas sucks but you don't own a jeep for gas. I've owned 4 so far and loved every single one of them. the windshield though I agree with. I get instant rage when a rock hits the windshield lol.

i have a 19 tj, I'm nana compare the problems since one in video is more modern
10. i personally like the bouncy feel, along with it being as high as it is i can see things better.
9. doors, my jeep has side ways handles and the door does not automatically close by itself, even id I'm on a incline i could undo the strap and open the door to the point of resting on side fender. and i can just pull them off no problem.
8.cargo, yeah my tj is rather small, only having enough room for a tool bag in the back. but i am able to put up the rear bench seat and allows me to hall anything that i need to.
7. yeah it is a bit loud inside my jeep, but really does not bother me.
6.haha if you don't want to sit in the rear seat you don't have to ride with me.
5.my gas-mileage actually is not bad i have a right four in it so that may be why.
4.again my jeep drives fine.
3. yeah getting in is kinda hard, it has a big lip under the door, but thats why there are step bars to help climb in.
2.yeah jeeps are expensive, parts are expensive, but my older model is not as much as the modern ones.
1. he was talking about the hood possibly coming off? do those new ones not have the hood clamps on the side? mine does so it stays on fine.
i personally have not had much trouble with rocks being kicked up,
and i have a pipe front bumper so i can clean it easy.
don't have bigger tires so breaks no problem.
my oil pan actually is protected.
don't have plug.
yes there is a goof bit of surface rust under my jeep.
he does have a point on the ABS but i would not want to do doughnuts in a jeep.
my stock speakers were shot out before i got it.
i have soft top so not much sealed off.
yeah windshield has big crack in it,
again i have a 97' so it is older and this is some personal opinion on it.
and i love my jeep no less. jeeps are amazing, and yeah so much fun.

As a single young woman (totally not trying to pull the gender card here!) I have gone back and forth between whether or not I should purchase a Jeep Wrangler. I have always wanted one, but when purchasing a car have always opted for Japanese made and good mpg. I live in Colorado though and am a huge outdoor enthusiast and feel that a Jeep would fit all my needs and is just enough room for little dog and myself. Since considering a newer car in the near future, I wanted to know everything I possibly could, good and bad, before making such a large purchase. I found your videos and absolutely LOVE them and you! You are so real and honest and that is so difficult to find on these Jeep pages. Everyone else is just showing off how they go mudding and all the mods they've put into them. Which is fine, but I need to know the real every day stuff about owning a Jeep. Your videos have given me just that, so thank you!! :)

Just like you noticed that there is a lot of bravado with some of the other Jeep videos, I get the same things with some of the comments on my videos. It is refreshing to get a comment from a person looking for honest information, instead of someone who is just looking to confirm their already entrenched beliefs. The number one thing I hate about Jeeps is that the wrong people buy them and then make videos and bitch about them. Do your research. They are the most customizable vehicle sold with the most after-market upgrades and OE parts available. Sell it and buy an Explorer and stay at the bottom of the hill!
So how far did you get into my video to figure out I am the wrong person to own a Jeep and that I didn't do my research? The whole point of this video is to help people understand some of the potential pain points that come along with a Wrangler. So that they don't make a bad purchasing decision and hate their Jeep.

Not only that, it took a beating and came back driving and sounding exactly the same as before we started. I was very impressed by that. When you have to drive 500 miles in one day on washboard roads with huge potholes you need to drive faster than you probably should. My teeth had more permanent damage than the Jeep did. I love my Jeep. This video was to make sure people knew what they were getting into. Thanks for watching, sorry if it was misleading.

Ouch that's tough. Sorry to hear that.
Most of your points are valid and known design limitations but most diehard jeepers know all of that and more before going in. IMO the positives must outweigh the negatives which could explain the increasing Jeep sales and the huge aftermarket support to correct some of the limitations or expand the capabilities. If you did your research before purchasing a Jeep its quite possible this list could be shorter because no vehicle is perfect. Good video but nothing new exposed except a list of your personal dislikes. Fix them all and one might as well drive any available mall crawler.
I love my Jeep. I made a UA-cam channel about it. But it's not perfect, and could easily be made a lot better by Jeep.

I believe all these issue could have been addressed when someone has ordered/built it to their purpose. The Jeep Wrangler is the most optioned/custom built available vehicle to purchase from the factory these days. Gotta pay to play. ;) BTW Nice Video I wish you would have suggested joining a local Jeep club...
If you address your "design issues", you will get Cherokee. I used to own 1990 trooper. Thin doors, flat windshield, tough, unstoppable off-road fun beast. Missed it big time. Now only jeep is left with these fun features. Thanks God somebody still makes cars like that! BTW over 9 years only had to replace that flat windshield once.
I have driven 40K miles so far. I have had three major hits on the windshield that created cracks bad enough to consider the windshield broken. The JKs have pretty thin windshields. It wouldn't have to turn into Cherokee unless you wanted to fix the gas mileage. I love my Wrangler though.
Cut a 1/8" acrylic glass protector and put it on before hitting highway in the winter. This is what I have done and it worked just awesome. This is a clear advantage of the flat windshield over curved one.
I love my Jeep! It's a keeper!! I thought it was the best looking and feeling vehicle on the market to drive when I bought it two years ago. Everything else's interiors just looked like cheap junk. I have no issues with my Jeep having to be a smooth "floating on air" ride and I kinda like that I can feel the ground because it puts me in touch with reality that I'm driving and not flying. I don't need the doors to effortlessly stay swung open for me, and I feel no need to strip it down either! Limited space, yeah, but it's just me, I'm single, no kids,, no pets, so what huge amount of cargo room do I really need? As far as handling well on the highways, Jeep has no problem keeping up and blending in with other vehicles in traffic; it's the other vehicles that seem to have serious mental problems keeping up and blending in with the Jeep! ;)

I only hate when my jeep leaks rainwater.
Where does it leak from and what type of Jeep do you have? I have been dry so far, knock on wood.
Exploring Jeeps I have a 2012 wrangler. It leaked everywhere. got it repaired . It then leaked around door frame seals. Just got seals replaced again. poor weather stripping . poor design on weather proof. no biggie. just rip out your carpet and suck it up.

Honest review and done well, all of the pros only say good things as they are sponsored by the companies. I dont know if I can deal with the road noise. Also, dont know how often ill go off road to make use of it. Seems like a fun idea though
MHobson, thanks! The road noise can be pretty harsh with the Rubicon's stock BFG KMs. Thankfully my new tires have knocked that down quite a bit. I'm very happy so far with the BFG KM2s that I bought. Seems like we can have a conversation much easier with my kids in the back now.
I feel as if most of the problems he talks about are with the newer models of Jeep's. I drive a 1994 yj and it's a dream to drive. My doors come of very easily, they only have one bolt holding them. She also gets great gas mileage, I generally get around 25-28, I don't own a lift kit or bigger tires on it. And while most people will get lift kits for better off-road performance, the only thing I have found that you need is air lockers. I've gone up hills in reverse that my friends had to get a running start on. I won't lie though it is loud and has no space whatsoever being a 2 door. But being an older model it can go to hell and back and not even care. I've jumped it and rolled it and she still has no problems. I've only ever had to replace a track bar and windshield on her. But that's just my perspective on Jeep's though.
If you can find a good Jeep TJ, you'll get the best buy for your money. Under $10k, solid foundation, no fancy extra electronics to get in the way of fun. 👍

JediMasterJF, There are a ton of things we love about the Jeep. I guess the three top things would be the capabilities, the strength, and just the fun of it. It reminds me of my childhood 4-wheeling in a CJ-7 too.
Which Jeep trim is most comfortable for city driving and long trips? If none which mods would make it more comfortable?

Getting a bit of mud on the bumpers of my Jeep is not a design limitation - I've owned a Jeep for over ten years and never washed-it, as it looks great covered in mud (ok it has rusted somewhat).

Greg, I bought one from Harbor freight for about $70 dollars maybe $80. I forget, how much I paid. They have sales all the time. It is a beefier one that can pivot and folds upward(Haulmaster 750 lb rating). I never did fold it. It would be a tight fit with the rear tire. It was solid and while it could sway a little bit, I did not feel it back there except for two times when we hit very large potholes. Aside from it blocking the tailgate it really worked well. Our two main reason for buying it was we needed a lot of stuff on our trip for three people and we needed to bring 10 gallons of gas for the Dalton Highway. Keeping the gas in the Jeep was not an acceptable solution for us. It gave us three options. Tire carrier mount from AEV, Roof Rack with Jerry cans, or a trailer hitch basket. I have no problem recommending the basket I purchased. It is pretty tough. Would I do it again? It is the least glamorous solution, but fiscally the basket made too much sense to go any other way.

JEEP. Just Empty Every Pocket. LOL, that said, just got a used 2014 Wrangler Unlimited Polar Edition. Factory stock and I'm loving it so far. Mind you, I just don't think these were ever made for 80 MPH. I drive slower, usually 65 range, and so far getting over 21 MPG with the vehicle. In town, lower in stop and go type traffic. But still not bad. 16 or so.
Air conditioning isn't really a problem if the people in the back are hot they can put the windows down😂
It a lot easier to take the doors off if the windows are down lol
I would advise anyone reading this who is considering a jeep to really think about it. After nearly 3 years I traded mine in for a new truck and couldn't be happier. Don't get a jeep if you have to do even a fair amount of driving. They are without a doubt the coolest looking vehicle on the road but the worst driving experience. Just being honest.
Great video, lots of good info. Didn't know about the rust factor. If I purchase new I'll definitely get after it with undercoating right away to try and preserve the black underbody. Also, how tall is your wife? I'm 5' 9" and wife is 5' on a good day. My plan is to purchase a Rubi next year and go with a 2.5" lift and 35's. I will likely go with the new electric step rails I've seen recently. They look like a good option. Thanks!
Rich Beach, Thanks! She's 5'3" We have the Hard rock rails, but even my wife says that she probably would not get them again. A lot of times, they are great at transferring the mud from them to the back of your calves. Maybe the electric steps would work well.

i don't understand. the rear doors are lighter, around 45lbs. i think the front doors are more of a pain. close to 80 lbs . especially with a 3 inch lift. and I am 6 foot and its not difficult to take them off. its more difficult to put them back on without bending the drop in pins
I agree that from a weight and awkwardness perspective the rear doors are much easier to move around. My issue and I believe it isn't just my Jeep is that the pins are not lined up properly and there always is a very high level of resistance to lifting the rear doors because of this. I am 6ft and am no small guy. I could not lift the rear doors off. I tried using a floor jack, I tried working the hinges back and forth lifting at different points and at different degrees of being open. I had to use a blunt cold chisel and tap the pin while lifting the door to get it to move. Once it moved it became easier, and now they aren't too bad. That first time I am lucky I didn't get a hernia.
I wash washing mine today.. now that you saw it I noticed my hinges sort of looked crooked. Also, glad you did not suffer from a hernia. Your wife would have had a fit!!
Good points I think the video should be title jku review 2 doors get better gas mileage the added room is a plus on the jku but I average 18-25 depended on how you drive they don't have bad mileage they tell you what it gets it's people's driving I cruise control all the time saves tons the wind resistance does play into too on 2 and 4 doors the and they are expensive rubicon's are expensive but the addons do kill you, hates a strong word if I can respectfully add pisses off certain owners that don't take it with a big grain of salt only thing I didn't like with my jeep was the leaking so I just took the carpet out if it puddles I pull a drain plug before or after it rains.
If your running the bfgs that's not good road tires it's an aggressive thread, your gas is going to suffer badly the all terrains are the best choice for daily drivers light offroad use I've seen Jks on the rubicon trail run bfg all-terrains with no issues if your running on a looser surface or mud it's to be expected but definitely I get better gas mileage and yeah they're going to be loud inside because of those tires jeeps aren't loud my doesn't even have the carpet in it anymore and isn't loud, but if I remove the back carpet you do hear the wind noise under the car only if the rear carpet is removed. And jku get worse gas mileage than the 2 door longer and the extra doors and longer hardtop
I have a 2013 Grand Cherokee Laredo 4x4 with 117k miles on it and am considering getting a Wrangler in the future. The one giant issue that I still haven't found a concrete solution to is the soft/hard top leaking water inside the vehicle issue. What's your take on that? I just don't see a justification for a leaking issue when you drop $40k on a brand new car.

Youre in luck, the new 2018's will have a steeper windshield angle and they will address the fuel efficiency issues better. This has been confirmed by FastlaneTruck following the test mules around. There will be an 8 speed auto (most likely) and the biggest change will be the optional power plants but no news on exactly which ones from FCA. Rumor is a diesel but no concrete evidence to which one, the old 2.8 4 banger CRD or the new 3.0 ecodiesel. There's also the rumor of a i4 Turbo gas motor that will put out similar numbers to the current pentastar but everyone knows that turbo lag in a gas motor isn't good for off-road use so it'll be interesting to see that if it's a chosen option.
Yeah, hopefully I can get my hands on a 2018 when they come out. If not to buy, at least to do a review on it. Thanks for the comment!
The doors are easy to get off...takes me a minute to take them all off by myself.
Mine are relatively easy now. First time was unbelievably difficult for the two rear doors.
Exploring Jeeps make sure you regularly put some grease on the hinge pins and it'll keep door removal easy for next time.
They might also leave the doors on if there are kids in the back who want the doors to stay on.
I have say that hardtop isn't event loud if you take carpet out and the tires is expected that why I went with the all terrains cause I second you on that nobby tires male a lot of noise it might be just a jku thing my 2 door doesn't make that much noise if you put the top on and don't adjust it right you will get a whistle
The thing I hate about my jeep is that water tends to get in it.
Doors hardy to take off no way. Easy as heck. I always keep my back doors on not cause it's heavy or a pain. My 5 year old thinks he's a dare devil. He is the reason those doors stay on.
I can "guarantee" that I and others leave the rear doors on because sometimes no one is back there to enjoy it. Also, some riders want the doors on. I don't know what is wrong with your Jeep to make it so hard to take the rear doors off. I would take it to the dealership if you continue to have problems. They will gladly show you how to take them off with ease.
OK, this is kind of funny. You are not alone in thinking that I can't figure out how to take the rear doors off. Since it was easy for you, it must be easy for everyone? I mention it gets easier after the first time. Now, my rear doors come off more easily than the fronts. They are significantly lighter. But it took two or three times before they loosened up. This was not a problem with my technique or my abilities. Did you buy a brand new JKU and take all of the doors off effortlessly? I am curious because that would be a good data point for everyone. If you bought a used one then maybe you didn't experience what I did. Also I'm sure this is not the same for every Jeep, there has to be some variation. Next time I see someone with their rear doors on I will try and ask them why.
Exploring Jeeps Exploring Jeeps Brand new 2016 JKU. No issues with removing doors. My Jeep club members also have no issues taking their doors off. Some of these members are 50+ men and women. I just don't think it's a reason to hate the Jeep. Some of your opinions are true, I just disagree with this one.

Jeeps are great and I have owned mine for 10 years, But I would really like a better soft top design by now. I think your forgot brakes, towing ability, security (mine has been broken into so much I just leave it unlocked now).
