Elephants on Board : A Journey to Remember - the fifth estate
Вставка
- Опубліковано 20 сер 2014
- How do you move three enormous elephants 4000 kilometres? Very very carefully and bring lots of hay.... When the fifth estate joined the convoy taking 3 Canadian elephants overland to the PAWS sanctuary in California it was bound to be an incredible journey filled with tension, drama and unpredictability. The good news for the Toronto Zoo Elephants, Toka, Thika and Iringa is that the long battle over their welfare appears to have a very happy ending.

Thank you Toronto for letting those elephants go. It was the right thing to do and the world has applauded you for it🌹
Bob Barker didn't just talk the talk. Nope...he walked the walk. He left a legacy of kindness and generosity to protect animals. He was an advocate for animals and spent his time and money to educate pet owners to be responsible and spay/neuter. Bob Barker....... You are an extraordinary man.
Your comment made me go check to make sure I hadn't missed his passing. It was mostly in a past tense so it seemed either he died or stopped helping animals.
@@butterflyforeve alive and well
Thank you to the late Bob Barker for always being a voice for animals.
It cost Bob Barker $880,000 to transport these elephants. Now that shows you how much love he has for these animals. Who would spend almost a million dollars to transport some elephants?. Only a real no nonsense animal lover like Bob Barker. Bob Barker is an amazing man, a real animal lover. Bob doesn't just talk like some celebrities pretending to be animal lovers, he proves it.
Well said! Thank you!
Yes, an amazing man. I'll never forget he always signed off The Price is Right with 'Please remember to have your pets spayed or neutered thank you'.
I hope he leaves all his money to PAWS when he goes
That figure was spent to fly Maggie from Alaska to California. These are different elephants. You are thinking of Maggie that was flown from Alaska.
I never went to the circus but I took my kids to the zoo and wondered what the animal thought of us who stared at them. I feel bad for them I wouldn't want to be in a cage. I just hope that these beautiful Hugh animals have a long peaceful full free life I love animals especially elephant 🐘 thank you for caring
That Milton guy ought to be left on an island somewhere all by himself and see how happy he is when left all by himself with no family or human interaction. The man is evil!!!
I noticed the veterinarian saying Lucy doesn’t need elephants anymore, he sure looked stressed and his speech was pressured and he sure was defensive.
Mr. Barker thank you for helping those beautiful animals. I'm so happy they have such a great home.
So thankful! Elephants should never be in zoos or any other forced elephant slavery! They need freedom and close interaction with other elephants. Their brains ( problem solving area) and feeling areas are even much larger than ours. If you see a elephant pacing or holding its tail - it has suffered major emotional trauma from isolation and cement or metal enclosures for probably decades. I have gotten involved in stopping zoos no longer using elephants to attract humans for mostly greed and our shallow need for entertainment. You can take safe lead safari trips and see them where they belong- in the wild!!💝 For ones that have been in captivity for way to long-'sanctuaries are as close to heaven loke this one, here for them. Praying for all elephants worldwide to be FINALLY be free. God's most amazing, complex and magnificant creatures. He gave them to us to take care of and protect- watch out over, not enslave. Pray for them all and for wildlife rangers in Africa and other places that risk their lives to protect them from greedy and evil people who murder them for their ivory horns. They need our prayers for they are gentle plant eaters sharing this planet and only want to be left alone in peace with their babies and other adults- usually groups of females together. Very protective of the babies and each other. God bless what they have worked hard to do in this video. Amen.
Bob Barker is such a nice man and the greatest champion of animals from which we can all learn.
Thank you Bob Barker!! You're my hero
Where is Lucy now ?!
My heart just soared watching these beautiful creatures being freed to live out their lives with other elephants and have a taste of freedom if only for a short time.
I pray Lucy is NOW HAPPY & playful in CA. NO MORE COLD ice and snow. I pray n JESUS Name the elephant adapts well in the NEW environment on the West coast.
@@donnaeckhardt6960 But Lucy is still in the zoo ! They don’t want to release her in a Sanctuary! Poor Lucy😢
God Bless you Bob Barker
I wish there was MORE of them meeting their new family.... more of them enjoying their new life,. This made me cry. Mr.
Bob Barker is my HERO
Thank you Bob Barker and to everyone who help and taking care of these elephant. You have a special place in heaven. ❤️❤️
That was wonderful. Thank you for spotlighting the elephants.
What a great achievement. Thanks to everyone involved and to Bob for making it all possible ❤
Up to this day, February 2015, the Toronto Three are thriving. Now get Lucy from Edmonton here.
Zoo and Council from Edmonton, let Lucy go, or you will be remembered as the town that tortured and killed Lucy.
I think the latter is what they have in mind.
Oh Bob, thank you for helping this elephant! Good on you! An elephant needs to be an elephant! 🐘💕
Bob Barker is incredible. He was the best game show host so kind to spend his money like this instead of how most celebs spend theirs.
Tennessee has a great Elephant sanctuary
Your right! There are now more and more elephant sanctuaries- good inrsxlike The Elephant Sanctuary in Tennessee! God bless😉💝💝💝
A great episode. Thank you for sharing an important story, and for laying the facts plainly. Lucy must be next. There is no excuse Edmonton
I am from Edmonton I would love to see Lucy go to paws but unfortunately Lucy is not well enough to travel according to vets Lucy would not survive the trip and also she no longer use to being around other elephants so their is no telling how she would react
ILOVECHILE I went to PAWS (where theToronto elephants moved) last year and the owner said Lucy is absolutely well enough to move. Unfortunately Edmonton doesn't seem to care about her, and her story beans my heart.
@@ILOVECHILE they are lying to you guys about her not being a humans elephant. And even if she was afraid and not able to live with the other elephants, I'm sure allowances would be made so that she could still live at Paws and get to live in a natural setting. She has no choice but to be a human elephant at this point because that's her only choice. And I am calling bs on being too sick to travel, they are being selfish and only thinking of themselves.
There was a new medical examination done on Lucy in November and unfortunately the news is not good she has deteriorated to the point that she is in palliative care now. Moving her is no longer an option. It breaks my heart to be saying this but the kindest thing to do now would be to end her suffering by putting her to sleep
Thank you Bob... your million dollars bought you more than the freedom of these 3 beautiful elephants 🐘🐘🐘
❤
Aussie Flag actually that’s exactly what it bought him & nothing more.
Yes! Thank you Bob! 💕🐘
Mr. Bob Barker is a Legend!!! Thank you so much Mr. Barker!!!!
I am so, so happy they are in California's PAWS sanctuary, it's a wonderful place. Bob Barker is truly an American HERO - thank you so much for all you have done.
With that female elephant Lucy, if she has a respiratory condition, being in a cold climate would be far more dangerous than travelling overland to a warmer home. That vet is either delusional or lying.
Both
That vet is a Greedy man for the money & profit. They never think of the welfare of the poor LUCY. I hope one day those cruel people who imprisoned Lucy MUST Suffer heavily too.
He is lying, he doesn't want to loose his job.
He looks delusional yeah.
I have chills .. this was so make me feel good 🙏🏼 thank you all
Seeing the elephants enjoying the warmth & freedom of their new home is so heartwarming. ~~~ I think that the money the *good* *LORD* interested to Barker's stewardship was well spent. It is interesting to me that many (NOT saying all) animal advocates are childless, as the Barkers were.
Thank you guys for your support hard works. God bless you
Does Patrick Lampe visit Maggie occasionally? God bless you, Patrick, for allowing Maggie to have a better life!!! I watched a PAWS vid of Maggie roaming the hills of the PAWS sanctuary, blissfully, with her friends, and I cried tears of joy!
The people of Anchorage and the Alaska Zoo have remained true friends, visiting Maggie during our "Seeing the Elephant" weekends, open houses and other welcome visits. Alaska Zoo Director Pat Lampi not only visits Maggie, he has participated as a speaker at PAWS' International Captive Wildlife Conferences (next conference will be in Northern California in November 2020).
Thank you to “the fifth estate”. 🍁❤️🍁💞🍁❤️🍁
I want to thank everyone involved who made this possible for these Elephants to find & enjoy what real life for an Elephant is. .. to unlearn being in captivity..... Thank you to all the people who made a big difference..... Just to hear the joys from the other Elephants in the barn .... they gave as a welcome..... says it all......❤️🍁❤️🍁❤️🍁❤️🍁❤️
What a wonderful story! Thank you all for making sure these ladies reached their beautiful new home. God bless you all! 🙏 ❤
so glad they're at PAWS. admiring that lady's mindfulness and intelligence. now, how about that Lucy in Edmonton. I am hoping she will have her day in the sun.
this is a highly regarded episode!
Thank you. You gave them the greatest gift. Happiness.
The Toronto zoo should have had their paperwork completed *before* the elephants were loaded for travel. The lack of using their little gray cells in that area is very clear & shows that those people truly did NOT have the compassion for supplying the best interest/comfort. of the elephants at heart!
400 kilos of dung! That’s some fantastic compost/fertilizer matter for the land.Bless and praises to all elephants.
❤️u Bob! God bless u😀
Watched many times, always through tears.
The worst thing that can happen is that there is a delay once the loading process is completed. Shame on whoever caused that.
Beautiful man to protect these magnificent beautiful creatures thank you Mr Barker peace and health and blessings to you God bless you 🙏🏾❤️💕❤️🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🐘🐘🐘🐘🐘
God bless, Julie, & all others who have deep compassion for animals in need of a "real" life of loving care, freedom, & space to roam. And those in the case of dogs & cats who rescue & care for them on many levels, as they seek loving & caring forever homes for each. God bless you all today & always!
Bob Barker has given so so much time and money to help animals. You sir are an inspiration and a hero.❤
Wow - thoroughly enjoyed this !. I'd loved to have witnessed/heard THAT welcome the elephants got - it was so impressive !
I dont think they want her to have the life she deserves
Great story, I'm not anti-zoo but Elephants are just too big for cages or little patches of ground. Paws sounds like a real positive.y
Bobby Paluga PAWS is amazing! You can go on an elegant tour there for $300. I did it last year and it was awesome to see how the elephants (and tigers and other animals they've rescued) are living.
@@rebeculus how is the tour done?
Desire Love oops. I didn't mean "elegant." Last year when I did it, you book on advance and I think it costs $300. They held them once every few months. It starts at 8 or 9 AM, and they give you a tour of the various elephant areas and talk about each of them and where they're from, etc. It included lunch, which was delicious. And the coolest part for me was when they did a demonstration of protected contact, which is a procedure for how they and a lot of other sanctuaries interact with elephants and do vet care, etc. The other coolest part is that the co-founder gives the tour and he was amazing.
Seeing the braces in their ankles breaks my heart instantly. They should never be captive. So happy they are going to a new home
mr Bob Barker u have a big heart, God Bless you and your family
What a wonderful story! Thank you!
Oh my god……….I love Bob barker!!!
One word to describe Bob……Legend oh ya and sexy.lol
The Edmonton vet seems to be a real company man, he wants nothing to do with any opinions not identical to zoo policy. I don't like the rings they put around elephants legs and the hooks seem very cruel. Giraffes in a zoo housed in horse stalls without room to run around chew on trees etc man be similar to the elephant dilemma
Five years ago today, October 20, 2013. . .
Hi, l am from Scarborough, very close to the Toronto Zoo. How is Thoka doing, and how is Thika making out? I hope she's finally settling in and making friends with the others.. Thanks for taking them in, and a great big thanks to Bob Barker. I think Thika had a birthday recently. Happy Birthday, Thika!!!! Lots of love to the Scarborough-born girl like me and Mike Myers!
Dianna Grose I was at PAWS last year, and they're both doing great. They live in separate areas, and get along well with the elephants they're paired up with.
Beyond words.mans love and mankinds ability to care and do good as strong as his ability to do the not so good . fantasy tale of love and concern for one the most beautiful amazing innocent gentle giants of our world . for the entire team which pulled off this generous compassionate act and narrative God bless God keep u and urs forever.
Thank u thank. U and thank u
Bob Barker, thank you so much for helping save us. Love The Humpback Whale's. Australia. xoxoxoxoxoxoxox
God bless you Bob 🙏 ! Job well done 👏 !
This brings tears to my eyes.
Thank God they made it to California. When those trucks pulled through the gates, the tears just burst forth...
It's 2 BAD LUCY died. I love elephants more today, than yesterday.
I wonder if the elephants tease each other about their Canadian and American accents. Sadly they should all be speaking African but this is much better for them in their lives right now.
Thank you love y’all and Bob❤️💕❤️🐘🐘🐘🐘🐘🐘
Outstanding, thank you for an amazing video!👍👍👍🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Awww I love paws! They help Hope for paws with a lot of their domestic animal rescues. This is awesome!
I cried watching this happy and sad tears
Ha Ha. Great stuff.. I love there pack lunches.
Couldn't the Air Force have been used again for these gorgeous animals ?
Thank you for all you do Mr Barker
A great report of this transition!
Yeah TEKA made it at 2:00am. Thank u GOD FOR THE WEALTHY WHO HELP YOUR CREATION.
Love 'elephant woman' . . . she knows wtf she's doing . . . and knows animals and what it takes to move them . . . 🐯🐴🐘.
spectacular
Yaeh yeah the ELEPHANTS finally made it. The elephants will be happy NOW.
Beautiful video
Thank u God for these magnificent creatures that humans, to a certain extent, have learned are precious and must be treated as such and not disposable commodities. May all of Earth's treasures be treated well. ❤
The Elephant Sanctuary in Hohenwald, TN would have been a much shorter voyage. I wonder why these ellies weren't sent there? PAWS is a great place, just wondering. Glad they were in much better surroundings, regardless of location.
I wonder the same thing.
Elephant sanctuary ❤
Hope Edmonton, Canada zoo will let Lucy join the California elephants!!! ❤
Yes, the question is what place is better to the animal ?
Thank you Bob!!
Wonderful stories of improving the lives of captive 🐘 🐘 🐘 🐘 elephants.
Another bonus the commentary had the measurements eg weights, distances etc were in the metric system!
Yeah! 😁
As a child I can remember wanting to climb atop a small Asian elephan, I only doing this twice, I felt special, this beautiful beast was calm, I felt completely at ease petting her ears and talking to her. Horses are also beautiful animals but I hv a fear of them, silly huh?
HOW WONDERFUL 😢❤ ! THANK YOU TO THE DEDICATED CARERS, STAFF, VOLUNTEERS .... FOR THE PATIENTS AND KINDNESS 😅😢❤😢
TOWARDS THESE BEAUTIFUL CREATURES 😢❤😢
😂❤😂❤😂❤😂❤
FROM AUSTRALIA 🇦🇺 ♥
17:28 Was that the actual plane taking off? Or was that a different plane for example. That looked like a pretty steep climate if there was an elephant in there.
the magic starts at the 34 minute mark
THE ZOO STALLED DELIBERATELY -
Good on Bob
Love the jernelist laughed in vets face when he sead she is fine all alone with people poor Lucy God bless Bob and this jernelist haha if she so happy around people imagin her with elophents
Love that story
While this was an excellent, well thought out, well organized journey, my question is - how did they elephants get to the zoo in the first place? If they weren't born in captivity, then were they originally transported in a crate? Don't get me wrong, I love the care that was taken to transport these animals to a better place. I'm just wondering if they got to the zoo in a crate in the first place and how they did then?
Chele I don't know about these elephants specifically, but many elephants in North American zoos that weren't born in captivity were likely bought from countries in Africa or Asia as babies - so, separated from their mom when they were still nursing probably (since they often nurse till they're like 4-5) and taken to a zoo. I don't know if any zoos in North America do that anymore, but Zimbabwe has sold tens of baby elephants to China in recent years, for zoos. Heartbreaking, because female elephants spend their whole lives with their mom and sisters and aunts, etc. And all elephants have life long relationships with each other. So they're basically traumatized when taken as upping elephants from their family.
there are several elephant sanctuary in the u.s. the one in tennessee has over 3,000 acres.
I can't believe those poor elephants were left on those trucks for 9 hours, without moving, while you pissed about with paperwork before departure.
Yeah sounds like deliberate delay from those whose feelings were hurt.
Greed, greed greed....poor Lucy. That man saying she preferred humans is delusional, making excuses for their greed...
great video..................great outcome
27:06 h thank you for your love!
If the elephants were allowed to go to Tennessee Sanctuary…. It would have been much closer……2700 acres in that sanctuary
They should have loaded at the last possible minute. It will be good for them to live the rest of their lives with space, love, and care. They can live free and wild and eat grass as they should. I'm soo happy for them, 😊😊😊😊😊
THANK YOU 😢 THANK YOU !!!
Wonderful hard working CARERS , VOLUNTEERS , and the public .... whom DONATE s their hard earnt wages , to support these BEAUTIFUL MAJESTIC CREATURES ❤😂❤😂❤😂❤😂❤😂❤
May these Beautiful Animals.... live their remainder of LIFE , enjoying VAST GREEN SPACES 😢😅🎉❤🎉❤🎉❤🎉❤
Une excellente vidéo j'ai kiffer tah les fous
Is there a video of when elephants were released to meet the elephants already there? I want to see that!!
Now theres a reason for those Canadian zookeepers to visit California 🐘🐘🐘
These people should learn from the experts, Sheldrick wildlifeTrust, Nairobi, Kenya.
