This song will never go out of style. Still amazing 30 years later
40*
TRY 40 YEARS I REMEMBER IT BEING RELEASED IN 1980/81 I FIRST HEARD IT DRIVING HOME FROM NIGHT SHIFT IN A WATER TREATMENT PLANT.....SOMEBODY'S KNOCKIN' AND WHEN YOU'RE ONLY ,LONELY CAME OUT ABOUT THE SAME TIME...BY TERRY GIBBS AND J.D. SOUTHER..ALL OF SIMILAR TYPES, ALL GREAT.
Good songs never go out of style
Over 40 years
Takes me back to 20 driving home from a new job in Chicago - it was on the radio!
Holy crap can this woman sing. Loved this song since I was a kid.
Me too 👍
It's shocking she didn't have a much bigger career.
@@templarrising6299 right? She's a huge talent with a top tier heritage who recorded good songs. It's a mystery.
@@templarrising6299 honestly, I've had this song in my head for about 4 days now. Isn't it weird how you come across a song you haven't heard or thought about in years then you hear some random person listening to it on their playlists and then "Bam" it gets stuck, but what a great song to be playing in the background of my mind.
She's miming
Her voice is so clean and pure. Class all the way.
Hey joan...
Hello Joan how are you doing hope you’re having a great time with your family may God bless you and your family
I agree with you 💯
I remember first hearing her sing and thinking it sounded like she was singing through some kind of smoke...screen? I don't know how to describe it, other than it seemed like some kind of affect that made her voice seem so unique and striking that there had to be something else behind it. I guess not.
love her voice!
All these years later, and still one of my all-time favorite vocal performances.
EXACTLY
I have loved this song ever since it first came out. You listening too? It is January 1st 2020!!!
I have always love this song too. I am still listening 1/17/2020.
First time I heard it spring of 1981.
Loved it for almost 40 years. Really.nothing like it
Yup
Me to !! I'm 58 Love This Great Ladies music as much as her Famous Father Here's to The Oldies ! ✌️✌️🎶🎶🎶
You can hear shades of her father in her twang if you listen carefully. Rosanne Cash and K.T. Oslin were untouchable as far as pure raw singing. Unfortunately, like so many talented 80's and early 90's female singers, they were both very undervalued by Nashville and radio stations across the US.
wrong
Ya
Very wrong. And that is a good thing. Johnny Cash was great, but no woman wants to sound like him. Lol
love her singing and easy on the eyes beautiful singer.
Wow you are so right 😮
She sure can sing. She pronounces all her words proper in her singing and makes it sound good. That is rare,
At least you can understand
Her Father is Johnny Cash. Enough said.
yeah i do
@@rosannecash4084 That you do. LOL!
@@rosannecash4084 OMG the real "Rosanne Cash" with her brand new youtube account, 1 subscriber and no videos! Hahahahahahahahaha
Beautiful! No tattoos, wardrobe malfunctions, lingerie, or face jewelry. Just a CLASS ACT !
Hope you're having a wonderful day ahead Stella?
Just a naturally beautiful intelligent lady.
Amen
tattoos has nothing to do with a person and their music. i have several and i love old school country and pop and rock. you can not judge someone for that.
Ear rings.
When country didnt suck. What a beautiful lady.Dressed classy and lets her amazing voice talk for her.Very few female vocalists back then or today can match her voice.
Back then, yes. Now days..... Not a chance.
@@jodybrooks531 exactly. People don't know what real country is now days.
She dresses classy too. She doesn’t have to come on stage wearing next to nothing.
Before "Tractor Rap".....
Some great artists came out of that generation (very late '70s./early '80s), especially great female artists. In addition to Rosanne, there was Lacy J. Dalton and Gail Davies.
😊who else loves this
Fabulous!!!!! 😊
I could listen to her sing this one over and over again. Her energy is contagious.
It flows so well!
She is more vocally accurate than any computer could ever be!
Her voice is so clear, you just wanna hear more and more of it!, She was under rated IMHO.
I thought the same thing. Great song and band too
Some singers voices give us goosebumps, Singing the truth out loud. 💘
Isn't she miming?
She sounds like a female Johnny, & I mean that in the most complementary way…..
I can tell that’s her daddy…..
I wish more "Stars" from today had half the class and talent this woman has. My heart just loves her voice!!!
Outrageously fine tune,vocals AND music....................
Nobody today can match this!!!!
So true. When did we go back to bubblegum pop which paved the way for a liot of great music, but I don't think music is evolving much these days.
We went from this classy performance to CardiB...
@@Nsaishie Thank you! You nailed that! BEST POST TODAY 👍💝👍
Not only does she sing it beautifully, she wrote it herself!
Watched an interview where she said she originally had 23 verses, hardest part was paring it down to fit album
RESPECT to the artist , yes indeed.
She had it just like her father.
The lyrics are pure genius and so is her voice. Love this.
Hello Lorraine how are you doing hope you’re having a great time with your family may God bless you and your family
Yes 💯
That sums it up.
Yes, sometimes it the great beat of the lyrics that make a song like this great.

One of the greatest female country singers ever. Beautiful and smooth voice. She's a hit maker.
I am not a die hard country music fan, but Rosanne Cash is the greatest. She comes across as your warm friendly next door neighbor as well. Nothing phony about her. a great talent.
Totally agree
Die hard country fan and I couldn't agree more
Yes
Johnny Cash left behind a legend in his daughter Roseanne Cash. what a voice, beautiful lady.
@@billfulton3701 i like johnny but not a great singer, more of a talker and no comparison to her
One of the most underrated singers ever. Could it be because she was just know as Johnny's daughter?
I would add to that Songwriter.
She was always known as his daughter but she has always been known as "Rosanne Cash" a star in her own right! Damn I love this song!
Underrated? This song was almost on every jukebox
@@stevegarvey5607 I meant underrated as a singer not this song. She had so many more songs as a singer and writer.
Her ex , Rodney Crowell ain't too shabby either . imo.

Hope you're having a wonderful day ahead Susan?
Ppp
You act like you were just born tonight
Face down in a memory but feeling all right
So who does your past belong to today?
Baby, you don't say nothing when you're feeling this way
The girls in the bars thinking, "Who is this guy?"
But they don't think nothing when they're telling you lies
You look so careless when they're shooting that bull
Don't you know heartaches are heroes when their pockets are full
Tell me you're trying to cure a seven-year ache
See what else your old heart can take
The boys say, "When is he gonna give us some room"
The girls say, "God I hope he comes back soon"
Everybody's talking but you don't hear a thing
You're still uptown on your downhill swing
Boulevard's empty, why don't you come around?
Baby, what is so great about sleeping downtown?
Plenty of dives to be someone you're not
You say you're looking for something you might've forgot
Don't bother calling to say you're leaving alone
'Cause there's a fool on every corner when you're trying to get home
Just tell 'em you're trying to cure a seven-year ache
See what else your old heart can take
The boys say, "When is he gonna give us some room"
The girls say, "God I hope he comes back soon"
Tell me you're trying to cure a seven-year ache
See what else your old heart can take
The boys say, "When is he gonna give us some room"
The girls say, "God I hope he comes back soon"

The moodiness of this song is 🔥.
It’s the perfect blend of pop and country and the simplicity of her silky voice. Damn. You don’t need to always be able to hit whistle notes or have an outrageous range.
Sometimes just smooth as buttah is enough. ❤️
How are you doing?
It certainly didn't hurt Karen Carpenter either. She never needed to hit those "whistle high" notes, because doing that would only show one's ego, not necessarily talent.
omg I love Karen too, wow :)@@hoozerob
my Aunt used to walk around the house singing this tune 40 years ago and i never knew who the artist was until just now, funny. i am a big fan of her Pop though.
Back when singers sang. No autotune, just competence. Miss that about music.
Damn “George” Strait
Of course this was not live and it was lip sync but yeah I know what you mean.

Roseanne Cash wrote this song. Pure genius. "You act like you were just born tonight face down in a memory but feelin' all right." So perfect. I hope she made a million bucks off it.
Great song from the early 80s. Actually the spring of 1981. Another great song by her is 1982 Blue Moon With Heartache.
..Yes ! "🔹️🌛 💔" ! ... I also very much like her 1985 no.1 hit "I Don't Know Why You Don't Want Me"...Great video ! 🏆 💙
I was fours year old when this song was released. I was raised by my grandparents of the greatest generation. My family did not listen to country music. I vividly remember this on the radio as my grandfather was cruising through the radio stations while driving somewhere. We had a 79 orange Honda Civic with that dreaded black vinyl upholstery. I was a quiet, docile, well behaved kid. I didn't pipe up much. My skin was burning from the black vinyl seat in the mid winter California sun. I remember calling out from the back seat to "hey let me listen to this song" which was bold for me being kid raised to be seen and not heard. Definitely not "hey my skin is burning on this black vinyl". It was magical. This song is magical. Her voice, pitch and enunciation is magical. Still one of my absolute favorite songs.
Still listening to this song 2019.
and will do next year too
The lyrics are outstanding along with the melody and the voice and the way she moves. perfection

Hello
Just like Johnny, likes to dress in black. God bless her father and his talented daughter. Great song!!
1981, 18 years old-sent to Ft.Knox for basic training, This song had just come out, I strained from the Barracks to hear it from the Gut Truck, You see music was forbidden, It was still a real boot camp setting. Anything to hear a beautiful female voice!
Why is this woman not more celebrated? I never hear her name any more. That voice is IT. OMG!
The lyrics sound like something her dad would write. (Lower the octave in your mind and think of his way of describing things and story telling.) Daddy’s girl for sure. Boy I bet she had him wrapped around her little finger. That voice!
Yesterday (01/09/24), I met with seven other book club members to discuss Composed by this singer. I started reading it but listened to the audio to hear Rosanne's voice. Rosanne, we loved it, and to those who might be reading my comment, find this book and get to know her. Rosanne, as an American Forces Radio and Television member, I played your Father's music. My signal started in Crete, Greece, and often went around parts of Europe! If you ever get to Northern Virginia, Ashburn in particular, stop at the library and ask about the book club discussing your book. I'm buying you dinner!
Still one of the prettiest songs ever

This is what the 80's sounds like for me.
My daughter grew up listening to Roseanne...my good friend and now husband took us to see her at Northridge University several years ago and was delighted when we broke into song and dance for this one. A night to fill my heart, sharing with my daughter, this amazing woman, and our younger years together. Her singing is, of course, untouchable, but gosh, her writing is amazingly incredible!
Today's country music pales in comparison to "OLD SCHOOL" country music and "SEVEN YEAR ACHE" by the the one and only "ROSANNE CASH" is the "CREAM OF THE CROP" that ladies and gentlemen is what "REAL COUNTRY MUSIC" should sound like 👏👏👏
I love this song to this day. And she looks so much like her mom here! Beautiful!
I always remember being a child and hearing her voice on the radio. Some of my best memories.
Take note. This is pure talent.
I was born in the wrong decade, Even way back in the nineties , one of my girlfriends claimed I was only dating her because she looked like Rosanne Cash , and it was about 2019 I recognized that she was in fact correct . Is it strange to be in love with a woman you only know of through 70’s era music videos ? If she zero fff’s given , Rosanne is an absolute goddess in my book.
She has a beautiful voice. She should have been more famous.
Amen!
Yup I like to know why more hasn’t been written or interviewed about her. She is Jonny Cash’s eldest daughter. She has been severely snubbed and underrated.
johnny's daughter was a consistent hit-maker across the 1980s with a highly intelligent form of country song.
Hits a nerve when I was 12 trying to come home From England to Canada. The family moved. But I’m still here. And strong. 😝
Roseanne Cash is so humble and cool that she let country artist Trisha Yearwood record a version of this 1981song 20 years later for her 2001 album "Inside Out", ..that featured Roseanne herself singing background vocals ! 🎤❣️

Such beautiful and talented singers bringing joy and warming the hearts of millions. Compare them to the miserable deceitful conniving polticians and health "experts" of our times spreading gloom and misery.
I remember being 19, working at a thrift shop when this song started playing on the radio and I couldn’t move... I just listened to that mesmerizing synth, those crushing lyrics, and that beautiful melody. I asked everyone in the room if they knew the song and no one did. So I wrote down the only lyrics I could remember from that haze “The girls say God I hope he comes back soon.” and I immediately looked it up when I got home. I replayed this song all night in my room, and couldn’t fathom that this song existed and I didn’t know it. One of my favorites.
what year was this?
You hit the nail on the head. Story of my life. But sometimes for me its not a song. Its a never ending story. Sometimes a warm thought, kind gesture and even person can arise amongst the thorns and inspire greater hope in the hearts of the living.
