    According to song writer Billy Montana, Cash was inspired to write this song when she didn’t win an award she thought she should’ve won. The subject of the song is the CMA.

    Flashback: In the 1980s when this song/video would be played at gay bars in San Francisco, every time the gorgeous Roseanne Cash would sing the line "I don't know why you don't want me tonight," the crowd would yell "Cuz he's gay!" or "Cuz he's got a boyfriend!". Also, her hairstyle became an iconic trend for The Lesbians. She seems like a wonderful person. It's hard to believe that I had a 29" waist then and even harder to believe I'm so old now, lol.

    1985: Johnny's daughter chose her own path, and with then-husband Rodney Crowell made a bunch of great records through the 80's. This one topped the Country charts and, like a number of her records, also crossed into pop and adult contemporary. And yes, she looked great. Still does.

    Okay people recall this is 1985 probably very early 85 when this video was made; if not late 84. For country music, Rosanne Cash was a huge innovator and Not only was her music ahead of its time but her videos we're top notch and certainly weren't cheaply made. No I'm not positive oh, but I am assuming that this video was made in New York City. Probably somewhere off Westside Highway. I know this because it does look familiar to me from 1985 beans that my dad owned a wholesale fish market near the corner of Leight st and Westside Hwy. Leight Street and many other streets around the area including buildings are now all gone. The roads aren't even there anymore. If anybody including you Roseanne we're driving down Westside Highway and the Hudson was on your left my dad's Fish Market was in between the World Trade Towers and "THE MEAT" District, but closer to the meat district. Being from a very small farm town in Monroe County Michigan, needless to say I could just sit in the semi-truck and stare and people watch all day. I just wondered if I was right about the video. I don't know why you don't want me if that was made somewhere near there. Not only was Rhythm and Romance the greatest album that was ever made (In my eyes), for country music this album again was so innovative and so before its time. There is that one song on the album that I never got tired of hearing. I mean how could you? Hey Roseanne, if you're reading this, I am so excited that you are touring and coming to Ann Arbor Michigan on May 13th 2023. I still can't believe it. And you know when I was in radio I told you I never got to do country radio. Even if I had I wasn't in the business for concert tickets and to meet people oh, I loved my job. Needless to say I was a perfectionist at that. Wasn't hard because I truly had passion for the business despite dodging and pulling the knives out of my back quite frequently over the 20 years that I was in the business. But I digress, I wouldn't take back a single day and I have no regrets. I left the business on extremely great terms. My ratings were number one for my time slot in the city of Toledo, Ohio. Actually we're number one for 2 years straight in every single quarterly book. My ratings for the highest with men 25 to 44. However my ratings were quite high in every demographic men and women from 12 to 90 year olds!!! And again Roseanne if you happen to read this oh, you invited me onto your Instagram, so I am on that. And if I didn't mention it in this long comment oh, I would love and give anything to meet you on May 13th in Ann Arbor. Do you think maybe you could make that happen? You are worth way more than 40 $60 a ticket by the way. I do plan on getting the pavilion floor $60 tickets. I can get front row Center, believe you me I will be in the front row Center regardless of the ticket prices. You're the best Roseanne oh, and I cannot wait to meet you if it turns out that it was meant to be. Thank you so much for being you and true, Ron Dusseau Toledo, oh.

    I read a comment on here about "disco" like country as if that's a bad thing. Thanks to Roseanne, Vince Gill, Alabama, Kenny Rogers and Dolly, I discovered a love for country music. I had heard Olivia doing Let Me Be There and Charlie Pride Kiss An Angel Good Morning, but they were as "country" as I would go in my teens. Then along came Roseanne, et al, in the late 70s and early 80s and I was hooked. Oh, and of course, George Strait, lured me to the country side too! 😗 😉

    No one EVER, brings up Rosanne Cash's name, whenever the very best women Country singers comes up in conversation. Most people I've been around, they almost always put Reba at the top of the list. Reba doesn't have S--T, on Rosanne Cash. Rosanne didn't stick to just one style either. She mastered several different genres of music. Plus, Rosanne didn't get into the music business by using her father's great name either. Don't get me wrong though, Reba is great & I do like her, but she is not anywhere NEAR, Rosanne's league & natural born talent. 😎

    This brings me back to my teenage years in high school! I always thought Rosanne Cash had such an amazing voice, and just look so incredible. She was really in my mind like a pop singer with her music in some respects, and on this song. It definitely was contemporary version of country before it was popular.

    What a great song.. somehow I missed this one in the 80's. I was aware of Great country music in the 80's but didn't appreciate it. Hanging out with little Jimmy Dickens and not even knowing he was a legend. Interrupting Ronnie Milsap's Breakfast to get him to sign a Greatest hits Album. ( I would never do that now) I had booked him 5 suites... it wasn't until the 90,'s that I went back to country..well better late than never .Rosanne 's Back story on this song and The Grammy are awesome! I have played this song 6 times today alone

    She was an incredible talent, but timing didn't serve her well. Had she come along in the mid 90s instead of the mid 80s she would have been a lot bigger. She was way ahead of her time for that period.

  • @Scorchy666
    @Scorchy666 2 роки тому +1

    SO ahead of her time. The Country market at the time was much tougher for a girl unless you sang heartbreak songs (except for Dolly). Roseanne had an edge most radio stations didn't like but played her because of her father. This was a super-cool Country-pop song.
