@@UltimateTS64 Yes! Unleashed has genuinely one of the best OSTs in the series too! Feels less Sonic-y to me, but that doesn't take away from it at all, soooo gooood!
Now I am convinced a video on Shuffle's OST isn't possible, especially since one was never officially released... really sad. But this OST? Absolutely my childhood. So good
My favorite stage track is definitely Bullet Station. It’s definitely encapsulates the action and stakes of rail grinding above a canyon that goes a mile deep. This Machine is my favorite of the team themes, but Follow Me is a close second. And I agree it really fits Amy’s character, more so than My Sweet Passion (which I still think is a fun song but the world was definitely not ready for “pappappaya” LOL). What I’m Made Of is what I would consider the last of the “big three” Crush 40 songs along with Open Your Heart and Live and Learn. Their songs from Secret Rings and Black Knight are among my favorites too, as well as the Sonic Heroes theme and some of their non-Sonic songs, but the big three just defined the band in the way we know them all these years later. Besides the killer guitar riffs, I also really like the lyrics “Is it me, you say, you’re looking for, let me show you who I am and what I’m here for”, which I’ve always viewed describes Sonic’s attitude whenever he fights Eggman. Funny thing, I oftentimes play Sonic music on my bluetooth speaker at the pizza shop I work at, and today I primarily played Sonic Heroes tracks. What a coincidence.
37:55 I am sorry to say this is an error. As much as I've yearned for What I'm Made of to be in Smash, it actually isn't, and people often misremember it as being in Smash. That said, this video is still amazing, and wonderfully put together! I just wish my favorite Sonic song was actually in Smash... 😂
Another great one! I'm biased as Heroes is my favorite Sonic game but learning what occurred behind the scenes when producing the music is a cool experience. Thanks for this, guys!
Great video! I've only ever heard the beta version of Casino Park, so it was a very interesting experience to learn about all the others. Also heck yeah the System Select and all of the multiplayer tracks are so underrated! They're some of my favourites from the Heroes OST
Thanks That One Dude, I can promise ya one thing I will do an Unleashed Music video at some point. That OST is GOD-TIER, it may take me a while but it will get done ;) Thanks for watching!
With the song What I'm Made Of I'm sure I heard something about Sega thought the song was too dark for Heroes, hence why they asked for something more upbeat. I'm glad Jun stuck with What I'm Made Of to get it in the game. Also with vocal scatting over demo tracks, I remember Metallica's James Hetfield is quite well known for this with the demo tapes. Wasting My Hate being a good example of this.
Oh btw, some more specific stuff I was able to pick out: that prototype Seaside Hill track uses synthesized drums. I can't tell whether it's a physical drum machine or a computer sequencer. The final track has live drums. Grand Metropolis prototype's percussion is also synthesized, though I don't think that's a surprise to anyone :) The final track, again, uses live drums. What's really interesting is how different the drum patterns are -- I wonder whether that was originally how Senoue wanted the drummer to play, or if he just set up a sequence that would have a similar energy to the final track? The melodic 'shape' of that lead guitar riff in "We Can" feels a lot like Sonic going around a loop-de-loop. I wonder if it's a coincidence that that's the first thing you see when the song starts playing? The Rail Canyon prototype track *does* have real drums already. That's an interesting difference. The Lost Jungle prototype track actually *is* at a different tempo -- a word you like to throw around a lot -- from the final version. It's noticeably slower. Funny that you didn't throw the word in there when it would have been definitively accurate. :) The fact that the tribal drums still sound identical despite the tempo change suggests that they're synthesized even in the final track -- which makes sense considering the track's very mechanical groove. The fact that the scatting from "My Sweet Passion" is done by a single vocalist in "Follow Me" when the original version had what sounded like a group of backing singers, could also be seen as a reflection of Amy's growing confidence and self-reliance. Or it could just mean they didn't have any backing singers this time :) Some of the lyrics from "What I'm Made Of" were referenced in later Crush 40 songs, I think the most notable one was "I Am... All of Me" referencing the "seen a million faces and watched them fall" imagery, but I might be missing some others. The early City Battle track sounds like a synthetic drum-loop that could have been thrown together in a few minutes, most likely meaning it was a placeholder that was never meant to be used. Not mentioned in the video, but I find this interesting -- the Egg Emperor boss track begins with what seems to be a stock drum loop. The exact same drum loop can also be heard at a few points in the game Red Faction II, which, as far as I know, has no connection with Sega or Jun Senoue, and was released at least a year before Sonic Heroes.
This soundtrack was one of the ones that eventually got me interested in picking up guitar myself, and, in particular, I think it was the first place I ever heard a seven-string -- which is now, broadly speaking, my instrument of choice. So I think over the last few years especially, I've come to owe a lot to this particular soundtrack :) This all probably makes it a bit funny that my favourite song on the soundtrack is Lost Jungle, you know, that one which barely uses any guitars at all XD
Eldarin! Every single time you put out a video, I’m overjoyed because I know it’s going to be great. Heroes has such an incredible soundtrack that is top shelf and quality! Funny thing is that for over a decade, I had thought that the lyrics in Sonic Heroes were: “Sonic Heroes! Sonic Heroes! What you can’t find, you can find in your friends.” Instead of the actual lyrics: “Sonic Heroes! Sonic Heroes! Bind you, confine you, defining your reign!” I think my misheard lyrics fit so much better and make a ton more sense. Imagine my shock when I realized I was wrong.

40:05 This sounds like Crash Bandicoot 1 - Papu Papu
30:29 I understand why you used Rail Canyon gameplay for this, as that part of that version of Follow Me is VERY similar, if not identical to Rail Canyon's music.
JUNE SE NOY, ITS NOT THAT HARD
12:19 Funnily enough, I made a joke on your Discord server about Sonic Heroes having the best anime intro LMAO.
Great video! It had a very cozy vibe and I really enjoyed the guests giving their own analysis! I'm a big fan of Sonic music and this is one of my favourite Soundtracks, but this video had tons of information I didn't know about!
That said, I do have to point out, Mystic Mansion wasn't composed by Tomoya Ohtani (as stated in 6:17), but by Jun Senoue and Naofumi Hataya.
I'm new to your channel and will definitely check out your other videos on the development of Sonic music! :D
Hey Dreampillet! Thanks so much for the kind words on the video. Really happy to hear you enjoyed it and was able to learn some cool trivia from it. I hope you enjoy what other content I have on the channel and I also appreciate the clarification on Mystic Mansion, my mistake!
Amazing video!
You are so kind! Thanks Matthew I appreciate it :)
@@Eldarin btw I got ps now and played sa1 and sa2 for the first time and I really enjoyed them! I'm currently playing unleashed and enjoying it as well.
