Sounds like exciting things ahead, glad to hear everything is going well.
Thank you for taking the time to explain all of this, Captain Mortlock!
I'm glad you are taking the plung into new and exciting things!
Best of good fortune to you, Tristan! You're highly qualified and your emphasis on safety and crew are very much needed!
Good luck Tristan !
Best of luck with your new endeavors Tristan. The future is bright!
As an owner - operator, I can tell you it is not just new motor yacht owners who struggle with docking or even anchoring. I have been an owner of sizable vessels for over 20 years. In 2010, I was truly shocked when I transitioned from a 1990 52 ft flybridge to a modern 55 ft flybridge boat. I felt very insecure docking this new boat, despite joysticks, bow and stern thrusters and a cockpit docking station.
The reason soon became obvious. Modern boats are 50% lighter compared to old solid GRP boats of similar size, for the same, or even higher windage. The cored hulls are lighter and stronger, which is safer and saves fuel, but those light planning hulls have no inertia at all and a very shallow keel, which make docking and close quarters maneuvering a whole different challenge, even for seasoned helmsmen. And this is an even bigger problem in southern France, west of Marseille, in Croatia, the Aegean, or any other windy area in the Med and beyond.
Perhaps you need to make a vlog to explain these dynamics in detail, so people who transition to new boats are at least aware of what is coming, and receptive to the idea of getting some initial training on how to handle this new and different animal.
The upside is Mercury Skyhook, Volva Docking, etc., are all coming into play including auto-adjustment (including of elements) to keep stationary and not be bounced all over the place, and proportional thrusters are a godsend when you're trying to single-handed dock a 60 foot flybridge in poor conditions.
Thanks for the update. Great to hear things are going well for you. Good luck with the next chapter of your life. 👍👍
Great to hear of what you're doing now, a logical progression for your career, albeit very different from being at sea. Hope you also get the job sorted on the newbuild, that sounds very exciting.
It all sounds exciting. Can't wait to see how things progress channel wise.
Thanks for the insight Tristan, good luck with your new ventures and really hope the yacht build series comes to fruition
Thank you for the explanation Tristan. The build project sounds really interesting and would be a definite watch for me if it goes ahead. All the best for the future.
Congratulations both on your past and future adventures/endeavors! It is exciting to know the possibilities for this channel. Although I suspected as much seeing how much you hustle.
CONGRATULATIONS! I'm excited for you in your new adventure! My God bless you in this new chapter in your life!

Best of luck ! Love watching your channel and all you put into it ! Looks like you have it all together for sure and I think we all knew that !
All the Best to you Tristan ! I know you will do well in any endeavor you get involved in !
That vlog to document the building of the vessel, hope for the best and you acquire that. what a great thing. Thank you for the updates, missed you on the vlog and really looking forward to this opportunity for you. GREAT STUFF, Thanks
your accident report breakdowns are my favourite videos! don't be dissuaded from them! life is both darkness and light, neither should be ignored. and congratulations, sounds like you've got a host of really interesting projects on the go, i look forward to watching the results.
Tristan, I appreciate your professionalism and attention to details and good seamanship. Best of luck Navigating this "sea change" in your life! Acting as a consulting Captain for those trying to make their way commercially should be a great benefit to those that can get past their egos and honestly allow for a circumspect look at what they have done in the past. Here's hoping that the contract on the new build works out- that would be a fascinating look inside!
Wishing you the very best of luck! You are clearly a highly organized person, so success will come your way with your endeavors!
Glad things are going well for you….many blessings forward!
Sounds great! Thanks for taking us on the journey!
I love the idea of seeing a super yacht build from the beginning; that sounds like an amazing opportunity for both you and the builder. And us too lol. I hope the contract comes through! Regardless, good luck on your new endeavors!

As an owner operator of a 48' boat here in the PNW I think your approach to share the decades of experience you have built up with other boat owners is fantastic. If you ever make your way to Vancouver Island I would love to have you on board for a day! All the best with the new business ventures.
this sounds so awesome, im a ship owner of a inland cargo ship. and look for inspiration of my own ship build. so the sound of vlogging this proces of a superyacht sound incredible. good luck with the exciting times
Best of luck with your new projects
Looking forward (if it goes ahead) to seeing a super yacht being built from start to finish
Brilliant to hear all your exciting ideas. Good luck .
Thanks for these - I think the not-so-good-sides (and downright dangerous events) are extremely important and informative. Good luck and "Fair Winds and Following Seas".
Tristan, I am very pleased to hear that you will continue to work in the industry that you clearly love. Good luck to you in your new company, "Mortlock Yachts Limited". I have my fingers crossed in the hope that the filming of a new build project goes ahead, I can understand your enthusiasm about this opportunity, amplified by the fact that it will be a first, it will be fantastic if your previous videos are anything to go by,. I can tell that you are really excited about it and if all goes well, I will look forward to seeing it in the future. Exciting times ahead, I wish you all the luck in the world.
Great video, thank you for the update. Look forward to continuing to watch your journey.
Love your work and your open and honest reports on incidents, good luck with ll that you have on!
I really enjoyed the video. It sounds like you're starting on interesting new adventures! I look forward to seeing what happening in this year's videos! Love from Vermont
Oh cool! I love documentaries that follow building and engineering stuff. It's fascinating. Would be great to see a complete build of a mega yacht. And it would be invaluable to have a teacher like you to train owners how to control their yachts.
Great to have lots of projects on the go and looking forward to seeing all of the new content 👍
Looking forward to your new stuff. All the projects interest me. Best of luck!
Wow that’s fantastic and my best wishes. You’re Such a professional so enjoy the next adventure and keep at the videos if you can
Thanks for the update Tristan. Your ideas sound great. Watching the building process of a super yacht could be very interesting, particularly if you can capture the tension and interplay between the different factions: architect, designer, interior designer, engineers, accountants, owner, Mrs owner, etc etc and the compromises reached.
The training of more inexperienced owners of smaller craft could be equally if differently fascinating.
It’s great to hear your plans and to see you looking well and fit. Wishing you all the best - onward and upward!
Thanks for your videos and good luck with your projects!
Lots of luck Tristan! Cant wait to see what comes next!
Good day Captain, sure whatever you decide to do will be well and professionally done. Will keep viewing your vlog. All the best☺️

I had a hardwood flooring company for 34 years and one of my employees was a boat builder employee before. he had serious skills and I will be looking forward to seeing one built. Hope you score the contract. all the best Tristian.
Nothing sadder than watching a boat builder trying to build a house, never finished
@@andrewpease3688 😂😂😂
It sounds like different but interesting content to come I can't wait. Good luck in the future and I wish you the best of luck
Good things happen to good people! Great success for the future.
Hi Tristan, all that sounds very interesting. I specially like your idea of instructing owners how to handle their boats. Did something like that years ago: one week of intensive maneuver training, but with several people on board. Acquired quite a few grey hairs .... 🤣🤣
I have no doubt your plans will be successful, good luck to you
Now, that is one great plan, al the success to you. I was a fan before this change and with this announcement I’m more of a fan. Impressive move, very happy for you!
Always enjoy your videos. All the best for the future.
Good luck to you on the new adventure! Hope we will still see you in the blue from time to time. miss Awol!!
YES YES please Vlog the building of a Super yacht! It would be amazing!
I really love the content on your channel, it is always both informative and interesting! Keep up the great work!
Best of luck with your new direction, and I look forward to when you are able to publish videos again!
Hello there Tristan, I really wish you the very best of luck whatever you decide to do. I would love to see the built of a superyacht/megayacht step by step! One way to make money would definitely to stay in the Fort Lauderdale/Miami area and teach these owners of vessels between 30 and 60ft how to navigate! These boats are pretty much available to everyone with $ and many people in Florida have disposable monies! But they should not be on the water! Cheers
The best thing you can do here in Florida when teaching people how to use their small yacht or up to 100 feet is common sense teach them common sense something you don’t see my of out on the water. Looking forward to seeing a super yacht be built
🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Wishing you good luck with your new ventures

Your professionalism and sound standards are so refreshing to see, and I know you are a genuine good fellow. All the best and I look forward to seeing what comes next.
Good for you, Tristan! If I had millions of dollars to invest in a boat, being able to consult with someone I could trust to advise me properly would be a huge value. Sounds like you might have really hit a great niche.
Super excited and look forward to the next adventure / videos
Tristan, its sounds like you are opening a wonderfull new chapter of your career. Looking forward to watch your future work, hope the construction vlog works out. Being an engineer, im really interested. Best of luck!!

Great video. Also like the incident reviews. Have enjoyed the perspective you give on your vessels as well.
