Hi Jay I’m so happy and what a surprise you visited my home town! I grew up there and spent 20 years before embarking on my wine journey that took me to different continents. Les Tulipes has always been a family favorite and one one the few places left in the region where you will find the true locals. I’ve been eating there more than 30 years and it never disappoints. The owner Patrick is one of my old classmates I’m so happy you could see the true passion for ingredients and simple best home cooked food and stay away from medieval city tourist trap. Well done on you and your wife true testimony of your tastebuds and culture knowledge 😍

The waiter explains the dishes well, advises you and is nice as he should be in all restaurants. I'm relieved about your bad experience in another video! You speak French very well, it's amazing and you have a great culture! 👍

I'm watching this channel for the first time (*I live in the UK). Its amazing but I've watched four videos back to back so I feel slightly unwell from seeing so much food! However, its really interesting. I returned from Paris for the firs time (well, second time, I visited twice in September) and was very confused by the shockingly poor customer service from waiters - apart from one restaurant. But, I'm seeing two things, after watching your video. Firstly, it may not be racism. Secondly. adopting an upbeat and friendly style even if the waiters are rude is the best way to deal with the situation and ultimately have a better experience. Thank you!

This is my favorite video so far, I've discovered your channel yesterday and I've been binge-watching your videos! I'm so glad you've enjoyed girolles, they're my favourite mushroom, simply with persil and garlic the best way to enjoy them. I hope next time you get to try crepe and cidre in Bretagne where they are originally from, we don't have much wine but the best food and seafood !
One thing I would like to point out is that what you had was indeed crepe and not galette. Galettes with are often seen as the savoury version of crepe are made with buckwheat flour (while crepes are made with regular flour), they are darker in colour, like gray-ish and crispier while tasting different. It seems this restaurant does not serve galette but crepes in both sweet and savoury versions which is why they call them crepes salées and not galette, I hope this clarifies :) Hope to see you in Bretagne next !

Chantrelle, they grow wild here in sweden from july and until winter. Often served just fried with salt, pepper and butter, served on toast with perhaps some cheese on top..

Hi Jay, love your channel. You guys are such a nice couple.

Girolle/chanterelle is my favorite mushroom, it grows wild in my country too. Omg I'm drooling, a couple of those crêpes and a pitcher of cider would make my day right about now 🤤👌

    Great video, as always! 😊👏
So glad you enjoyed every piece of your meal, the wine and the cidre! 😊😋(the "cidre brut" is always better, in my opinion)
The waiter was nice and had a good sense of humour too! 😄
Here in France we tend to use "galette" when savoury (salé), "crêpe" when sweet (sucré). Most of the time, the savoury ones are made with a buckwheat (sarrasin) batter (and very often "labelled" with a full "galette de sarrasin" mention on the menu), but not always (which was the case here, if I am not wrong). But it's a regional thing too, so, there's no pressure at all on using the "right" term, "crêpe" is fine for both cases (sweet/savoury) as long as it is not based on buckwheat (I've never seen "crêpe de sarrasin" anywhere, whatever the place/region...), "galette (de sarrasin)" is mainly savoury (I've never seen sweet "galettes de sarrasin" 😅)
As for the girolles: yes, amazing mushroom!! It is, **indeed**, not that far from the oyster mushroom (in terms of shape) but the oyster mushroom is not a "cèpe", it's a "pleurote" mushroom (and, in my opinion, not as good as the girolle mushroom). If I'm not wrong, girolle mushrooms are considered a "chanterelle" variety (UA-cam does not seem to like external links in comments, I'm sorry about that, but you can easily try Google Images with "girolles", "chanterelles", and "pleurotes" to check how close they can look - except for the nice, light orange colour of the girolles 😄). The "cèpe" mushroom is of the Boletus family, and has a very distinct taste compared to the girolle. It's the Italian "porcini" (apart from the local differences in shape and taste depending on the area - just like for truffles) If you have a chance, try them side by side just once, you'll get it immediately and will never forget it 😉😊
The "key", here, is that those girolles were freshly gathered 👍👏Mushrooms are very fragile, especially those ones: the fresher, the better! And the chef clearly knew how to cook them - which is, obviously, very important too 😂
Still very impressed with how well you (and your wife!) speak French! 👏👏
