    Not a fan of hotels having unconnected annexes and charging the same price, If I booked a room in a Country Manor house I expect it to be in a country manor house, not the old garage and servants quarters. Thanks for another great video Tim and happy new year to everyone, all the best for 2023!!!

    That mold situation really is quite unforgivable. Hopefully Brittania buy them out eventually and make sure there's a gap in the windows (ventilation) and maybe introduce some more amenities like go karting and an out of service leisure club.

    This has happened to me a few times. You book a room in a magnificent country mansion and end up in a converted garage or outhouse. It's unacceptable and devious of the hotel management not to inform you of this during the booking process.

    • @margaretmaskell9985

      @@margaretmaskell9985 I did book directly with the hotel. It was many years ago before the Internet existed. The practice of sneakily putting people in converted garages is an old one.

    • @margaretmaskell9985
      @margaretmaskell9985 Рік тому +1

      Well someone has to be put in the main building. Probably people like me! If I want a specific room in a hotel then I phone reception at the time of booking. I’ve never been put in an outbuilding,or a room next to the lift or above the bar or over looking the kitchen bins. Just ask for the main building or specific room and if the room you want is available they will reserve it for you.

      @@margaretmaskell9985 why would I ask be put in the main building if I didn't know they had annexed rooms. Are trying to make out that I'm naive or stupid?

    • @margaretmaskell9985
      @margaretmaskell9985 Рік тому +2

      No I’m not trying to make you look stupid. What an odd thing to say. No need to be so defensive! The hotel website will say if they have annex rooms as well as the main building rooms. If you can’t be bothered to phone/do a bit of research or at least look at a hotel website or trip advisor room tips then it’s hardly the hotel’s fault if you don’t know what rooms are available at time of booking! Room information is always available before you book.

    I honestly didn't like this hotel at all. The urns were quite depressing and the general feeling the place had, at least how it came across to me, was that it was "stuffy" and unfriendly. Also sticking you in that room away from the main building without specifying when booking seems a bit off. Happy new year Tim and Gaby. I enjoyed the live stream last night.

    If I booked a room in a Country Manor house I expect it to be in a country manor house. I see this a lot where the slightly lower priced rooms aren't int he main house. In some cases it's a brand new building attached around the back somewhere. This has happened to me numerous times, a lot of the country house hotels do this now. It is mis-selling and they should tell you up front in the listing.

    I can remember a vacation we booked at a mountain resort and when we got there our place was a few miles down the road and we would have to walk or drive up to the main building for breakfast and dinner. I went into the main building to talk about that and they upgraded us to a suite in the main building with a heart shaped bed and a hot tub, and it had it's own little pool just outside the back door. Just goes to show you if you take a chance and talk to them you might get upgraded for free. :)

    Watching this after seeing your stay at the Royal Hotel in Scarborough was a trip! 😅I was a bit taken aback by the scaffolding around the coachhouse but your room was very nice, limescale and a bit of dirty tiling not withstanding. It was a bit cheeky of them to stick you in another building without telling you upfront that the main hotel was full, though (if it was full!).

    To be totally honest I didn’t like it. It’s not somewhere I would stay. I would be put off by the building works on the way to the house you were stopping in. The public rooms in the main building looked small and the reception looked like it was just put in a corner and there is no excuse for the state of the roof of the greenhouse that just looked terrible. Nothing about this place says grand to me. If it was me I would have been very disappointed. Great video though Tim keep them coming and happy new year… 😀

    I used to work at a hotel slightly bigger than this hotel and it wasn't the best experience I've had. There was a separate area that contained several rooms and it was always forgotten about which was amusing. On 3 occasions the cleaners forgot about it and went home and then we had guests arriving who would come back to the reception and complain that the beds weren't made and the room was a mess so we had to rush around cleaning the rooms giving the guests free nights or discounts it was terrible and is why if I book hotels I always make sure I'm in the main hotel and not in a separate building. For a luxury hotel the fact that there was mould on the window is very concerned, I hope he mentioned this to the staff so they can sort it out as it's such a simple 5 second job for them :)

    You missed the best view towards Scarborough Castle from outside the bar and conservatory and didn't show the glorious stained glass window between the reception area and bar! There's so much interesting history on the hotel website about the Ellis family who built the place. There's an excellent restaurant opposite the hotel entrance and a popular cafe, gastro pub and traditional pub in Scalby village which also contains the Temperance Hall, built by John Ellis for the village, and medieval church of St Laurence. It's an easy drive or bus ride into Scarborough, Robin Hood's Bay or Whitby and the hotel is on the edge of the North York Moors.

    Hi Tim,
    The key fob was very bad I would have asked if they had a replacement, and got off on the wrong foot straight away! Key fobs can be covered in bacteria, and it didn’t look washable! The dirt around the windows was irritating and annoying, when it could so easily be fixed. In my experience these sort of hotels with bags of character appeal to the older generation, who perhaps don’t care unduly about a little dirt around the window, but like somewhere characterful.
    Often the food is very good English cooking, locally sourced.
    I remember staying at the Bear in Woodstock many years ago, and being disappointed that I wasn’t in the main building, the facilities were the same but it just didn’t have the same character. I think hotels should always check with guests, to see if they are happy to be accommodated away from the main building or perhaps offer a reduction in the bill.

    A lot of Europeans I found drink sparkling water and when working there got into the habit myself. Not as bad as I was expecting tbh.

    Considering they are charging around £150 a night, I wouldn't go near it. A premier inn has a higher standard in my opinion and for less, I found it interesting that they did not pay attention to hygeine issues like mould and the showerhead but took time to polish the plug sockets....

    The main hotel part looked lovely. I wouldn't be happy booking there and being put in a different building.

    We stayed at Wreahead Hall in a February 2020. We were in the main house (not sure the Carriage House had been opened then) and have to say we loved it! My only comment was that the main bar room seemed to be of a jarringly different style to the rest of the house. Great staff, and the food was excellent :)
    Brilliant video as usual!

    Loved that. I'm a sucker for a country house hotel and that place looked really nice. What was your room rate? It's a place I've considered and may yet take my wife for a night!

    Very grand. One thing I noticed, you’re walking through a Downton Abby sort of home with modern music playing in the background. Seems rather odd.

    If you've not arrived by Lagonda and failed to qualify for the main house, perhaps better in the motor shed than my experience attending a course at Belper when we were billeted at a farm hotel in what were aromatically clearly some ex-pig sheds.....

    Great video Tim as usual. Pet hate of mine - plastic cartons of milk. I would expect these in a Premierinn or Travelodge, not a hotel like this for the amount charged. Cheers.

    I love you reviews & your little picks Tim. Me if I'm honest I never check any of the bedding & if the weather is rubbish just happy to be staying somewhere different in the dry.🤣 I'd love to stay there even more if it was haunted now thats my scene.😜 Happy new year Tim & Gaby.
