    One thing that's working for me is that I give away a recipe booklet on how to use the microgreens. People LOVE it. 1 sheet of paper contains 4 recipes and I change the recipes each week depending on what I'm selling.

    • @CoreysCave
      @CoreysCave  5 років тому +1

      Elite-Advantage.net I have considered doing that as well!

    • @Elite-advantageNet
      @Elite-advantageNet 5 років тому +1

      @@CoreysCave One of the things I've just started doing is to partnering up with other Farmer's Market vendors who also give away my recipe sheet at their booths. We have a little logo on the sheets and at our booths and on the recipe sheet it says "Look for this (picture of the logo) at participating recipe vendors."
      For instance, I have a roasted red pepper cilantro microgreens recipe and all the ingredients are available at the market here. The sheet offers a 10% discount for each of the vendors if you buy the ingredients from them. Eventually, I hope to be able to have most of the vendors on board with a variety of recipes so no one decides to compete, but we all work together.
      Since I'm new to microgreens and I have quite a bit of established competition, I'm putting my marketing background to work to make myself stand out from the crowd. Oops. Sorry if this reply is too long.

    Another value is water quality if your area doesn't have the best water get a good water filtration unit...It's actually besides the seed stock the most important thing considering these crops are not dried out so they are full of moisture aka alot of water... I've been cultivating a much different crop for decades and am looking into another area of farming and this is the area I've decided to attempt...I've always grown the highest organic quality product...Good listening to your ideas though....I have a feeling this is going to be a joy to do...Thank you...

    Hey North Easter! NW here.. I wanted to say Thank You for being real. Thanks for no up sell and or self promo.
    I get that You Tube, BLOGs and Blogs are as well as all social media is steep competition. But the push makes the most important message get lost.
    And that's just get started! Welcoming competition thats old school and respectable.
    I subscribed and Thumbs up this video.
    I'm just getting restarted in life due to well I guess life... But I'm getting started and just doimg it. I'm hoping in the future to have a family farm homestead (Father of 4) so growing and raising our own clean food is important, as I overcome 3 failed back surgeries and being 100% physically disabled and all the mental stuff that has came with it..
    Going back to my roots and building family values.
    So Thanks again.
    Im really close in having my room finished.
    I do have a couple questions:
    1) from what im researching sunflowers seem to be somewhat challenging and troublesome for many in beginning. What was tje reason you had them in your beginners plan?
    2) You mention fluffier soul the better. I started worm farming last year as I prepare for my future plans in farming. Any recommendations on a starting mix with castings???

    • @CoreysCave
      @CoreysCave  5 років тому +1

      Bubba Baker Hey there, Thank you for all the kind comments. Sunflower isn’t really challenging at all, the thing that is a pain is that the seed hulls tend to stick on them but at a small scale it’s not a big deal and at a larger scale you learn ways of dealing with it.
      I’m not sure I can help you much with the soil as I use bagged soil (black gold, sunshine mix and Promix)
      Good luck to you

    Thank you so much for this. Wow, this video is already 5 years old by now, but how amazing is that! I am so thankful. I am from Germany and very, very interested in this topic. For some reason, the only good, kind of complete and really helpful info always seems to be from the united states. Germans share some stuff too, but it very quickly reaches a point where everyone is like "that's a business secret, I am not going to tell you." Must be a cultural thing. haha. 😁 Another thing is, while so much of this stuff from you guys over there is amazing, sadly, we over here do not have access to many things. Specific things, of course, like specific lamps, specific racks ets. We do not even have Home Depos, for example. So I am always investigating and then looking for regional alternatives. The info is helpful, nonetheless. Thank God Bootstrap Farmer, for instance, sends worldwide. Haha. Corey, thank you! I love you, man. And to all the ones out there that love plants in general and microgreens specifically: Keep going. I wish you all the best. Much love.

      Oh and the "Cat Topic" is something that is real for me aswell haha. When i grew my own peas and weeds in the kitchen (no racks, lights or anything) for myself to eat, my cats always loved to sleep in the tiny, young plants or dig holes into the soil. 😂 Also there is always a cat hair in the harvest. Funny, if you grow for yourself, but an absolute no-go if you want to share or even sell. (The plastic thing is a good Idea. Just yesterday I was investigating a solution to the whole "sterile space in your own apartement" thing using a dust barrier.

    I built PVC racks with the measurements for my trays to get closer to the lights, cost $38.00 and because we are organic and soilfree with food grade trays, and plantbase bags to sell with we paid more but to hit the market in our area, everyone uses soil and we want something different.

    Great video with a lot of bit of information missing in some other places. A quick correction, T5 HO are not more efficient than T8. They consume more power than regular T8. By specifications, a regular T8 consumes 32 Watts a bulb that will be 64 Watts a shop lamp, or 128 Watts a 4 tube lamp. In contrast, the power consumption of a HO T5 is around 220 Watts. When you add the consumption of 10 or 12 of these fixtures for 12 hours 365 days, your bank account will notice the difference.
    Probably T5 are more efficient in the amount of power converted to light instead of heat, but from the point of view of the grower, that efficiency is irrelevant since T8 will growth the crop as well as the T5.

    1000 watt led grow lights on ebay from blue planet are $42 per and are amazing. I have 8 of them and the coverage is very wide. I also have a reflective interior, so the light isnt wasted by any means. I built my grow tent from scratch and its huge. I used pvc pipe and wrapped it in plastic, 6mm, with aluminum foil adhered to the inside. Anyways, LEDs are not expensive and are cool, cheap and perfect really.

    For any grow room that has any issues with moisture or humidity levels I would not recommend a plastic or mylar because it will trap moisture between the material and the wall. Triptans cause mold and other issues on your actual structure. If you have a dehumidifier or do not have issues than it is a great choice 😉
