- In this video i will teach you how to install install 24x48 porcelain tiles. This project will have 24x48 porcelain tile shower. I will be using my rubi tile saw and show you how to cut tiles as large as these! I do think that this can be a DIY project, but for sure on the harder side of it!
In our opinion KBRS shower system is the best shower system out on the marker. The KBRS shower pan is much stronger than the one you would get with schluter shower systems. I personally think that the schluter shower system has way to many steps and the fact that you need to go to a two day training shows how complicated it is.

I like how you showed your mistakes. They literally happen to everyone all the time. It helps as a reminder. There is a lot of setup that goes into a tile job and the more prep work you do before, the lest adjustments you have to make later. Especially on the PLUMB line.

An hour and you already had a tile up.mThat’s actually fast!. I was a tile setter befor me they invented wedges lol. My layouts take an hour by themselves. Great work. Most customers have no idea that tile setters need to understand the structure and plan accordingly before even thinking about mixing thinset. To you DIY guys out there. If your tile setter arrives and starts throwing up tiles - your job is not done right. You want to look for lasers, levels and site protection. If trades are using those they are understanding the concept of being a professional tradesman. Seriously great content bud.

@@Jack-russell103 Lasers, clips, better diamond blades etc all make tile trades jobs go quicker and a better quality installation. “Real” tile trades keep up with the times, dinosaur.

nice man ! recommend troweling short direction for air to get out set middle first then push air out, you ca use a euro trowel that self collapses ridges !

Lasers are game changers but you should have started with the laser to figure out your layout. It would have saves you the wasted hour, lol
Hot melt glue works great to hold that schluter in place. Also handy to put dot on a tile that wants to move
Suggest you use suction cups to make lifting and adjusting tile easier

Great video, but just a note. Large format tiles like these are not consistently 'flat'. There is usually around 1/8" deflection somewhere in the tile. This is probably the 1/8" gap you showed before you set the first tile - not the wall.. Also, checking this deflection is sometimes important when trying to figure out what size trowel to use..
Good stuff! Is easier to use suction cups to maneuver big tiles. Keep the good work!

I saw you’re frustration and know exactly how you feel, I need one of those bridge saws and a laser, I’ve been installing some of the same tile this week, using grinder and wet sponge to cut and chalk line ect, for everything else LOL

Thank you. I hope you still have that pikachu shirt! I am very nervous that the tile guy I get will not be great...either lazy, impatient, inexperienced, and/or mis/un informed. Maybe I should quiz him if he is a younger guy. They all think they're so great. I look at the pics of their showers, and yuk...they aren't doing what I want. I have one old guy whose showers look fantastic...but he is not going to help with any of the prep, like the frame or pan, or plumb the walls, not to mention the rough plumbing and drain. But these other guys act like anyone can do tile, yet they all refuse to do the large tile shower floor and don't seem to know about the envelope cut. So I am getting all the prep done, slowly, by good guys, and hoping my fav tile guy will come in last and finish it off amazingly.

That tiny 1/4 inch offset is a dealbreaker if you had already set that first tile!!

Hey man when you have a prefab pan like this it is really nice to have a level sub floor. A quarter inch from one side the other is getting close to water not draining properly. If it were a half inch you'd be in trouble (depending on how wide the shower is). It looks like you got about 2ft to the drain from the corner which would mean you have a half inch of pitch. Good work as always though man 🙏

I had a customer that saw 30 x 60 tiles at floor & decor . He said it should make tiling his master bath really easy 😌 😏
As long as he does it. I hope he knows he needs a flat wall, self leveling spacers, extra thin set ,levels, and patience. You have to make them go in right. Just because they are big tile doesnt mean they will go in easier.

I like how you took shallow saw cuts on the long runs. I’ve had trouble keeping the cut straight and that method fixes that. But please lay out the lowest wall and then lay out and install the back wall first. Be sure to leave a gap with spacers at the bottom.

Get a hot glue gun and use that 2 position and set your Schluter strip initially..
No men amateure do that

Some good suction cups would help. With tiles that big they are notch troweling both the tile and the wall.

I've always heard To start with the back wall. That way, it hides your grout joints n the corners. Much cleaner look, but to each his own. Your jobs look great in my opinion. Just throwing it out there. Is not trying to critique your work.
Did you installed the water proof membrane? Can you make a video on waterproofing shower?

I was just setting some 2’x4’ in a shower. Did the exact same f*cking thing and had to jump to the other side.
I like 2 suction cups with this size tile, allows me to really slide it up and down and collapse the ridges, and it’s a lot easier to move around. I set two buckets down to allow the tile to be supported and I keep the suction cups away from the buckets.

You should have started with your cut piece on the bottom so you could end up on the ceiling with a full tile looks a lot better that way
Hey Man great video I just bought the TZ -1550 61” Rubi. Having some issues with consistent cuts across the 24” looks like similar tiles to yours . Question do you think I should upgrade to the endurance wheel instead of that silver that comes with it?

Why don’t you use a manual dry cutter for straight cuts

Also when you mark the tile instead of flipping it upside down with the face still out you should have marked it on the back with it upside down in case the floor was out. Luckily it was 1/4” out level, not 1/4” to say 3/8” out from the floor.

Warning to people. Remember that you are installing them on wooden studs that can move at any time. Big tile have no forgiveness for movement, and will show it .
Good point man . I was looking at tile the other day for the bathroom and thought of every benefit of having this tile . That never crossed my mind once . So pretty much guaranteed to crack . True or false ?
@@New-Breed-Drywall-And-Paint I’m a contractor and people have a miss conception about tile. They think it’s cheaper to use big tiles, less work because less tile not understanding they have to be installed flat and solid , and framing today sucks. Complete mud job for big tiles is the best

Not really bout starting in wrong corners just always find ur low spots and set ur level of of there and won’t ever run into that problem anywhere , I’m sure after waisting that one hr , it won’t ever happen again though lol good work!!!

Here in India its hard to find good tile workers,i got 2 by 4 tile just like this but he didn't care to use spacer while tiling the floor....And his work helper is using white cement instead of epoxy grout

Ever thought of running your shower pan off the tile on the wall?
Can you put tile on the whole wall in one day or do you need to do it a couple rows at a time to let it dry?
Serious question: Do these systems like the KBRS you're using hold together if you have to remove a tile that cracks or chips? We float almost all of our showers and can float a patch if the mud comes off with the tile.
What kind of thinset are you using. If it took me an hour to set the first piece, LFT would set up on me.
