It’s not a wet saw it dry cuts and uses a vacuum to collect dust. I want one but some reviews I’ve read say it burns out after 1 yr and they cost 1,800.

Ive seen mini skill saws made for tile. Maybe clamp a straight edge and use the guide or shoe of the saw like cutting large plywood with a straight edge.
It would be nice to know the costs of the different options!

Thanks for this. I had to cut a single tile lengthwise only 2" from the edge to make a vanity top. I took it to a marble countertop fabricator and paid him $10 to throw it on his huge wet saw and cut it for me. Best $10 I spent in a long time.

    1. horsing around a 4 ft. tile and cutting it dry to add dust to your misery is too much.
    2. A $1000 52" razr is kind of a steep price to pay, then you get to polish the knife edges.
    3. A dry grinder with a sponge???
I just finished a 100ft2 2 x 4 ft tile job with a $99 kobalt hand held 4" wet saw with hose attachment. Clamping a straight edge and measuring twice gave me professional results. I highly recommend it for smaller projects.

I clamp a piece of 1 inch angle steel to the tile. The offcut protrudes this ensures that you cannot cut into the piece you need I also have water from a hose on it. The best place to do this is on the lawn. I don't know how he cut that tile so quick and straight it's hard enough to cut a normal tile let alone porcelain and without water. He obviously has a better grinder.

You can also buy a diamond blade for your circular saw if you do a DIY job.
You can get a helper who can spray water from a garden plant pumpable sprayer in order not to damage your blade fast and not to breathe all the dust.
A guide is easily made with 2 planks of laminate flooring or anything straight.
To not get a single chip - place reasonable strong tape over the cutline. First cut only the face side of the tile only 1/4th then proceed with a cut through. I use painter's tape the regular beige one.
If you do this professionally yeah a machine is a huge time saver.

Good vid like watching them. Extremely important to zoom in with a close up shot slowly (not a far away quick moving glance) to show the mass chipping a dry table saw and hand held grinder does to porcelain, natural stone and ceramic (sanding stones won’t fix that totally). Also a close up shot with a straight edge needs to happen if you’re giving an honest review. When cutting with dry saw or handheld grinder, It’s common to have the tile veer off and split towards the end of the cut. This happens especially with the high honed glass sheen, extremely fragile porcelain - and happens even with the smaller 12x12 or 12x24 - would be compounded with the 24x48 just from a single tap vibration especially on rectified edges. I’ve been installing tile for 40yrs for reference. Keep up the great content.
