  • The package tray in my '65 Falcon was worn out (and broken) so Dad and I decided to make a new one! Not only did we make a new package tray, but we installed some custom touches--holes for our new rear 3-point seat belts, a 3rd brake light, and we cut holes for my RetroSound speakers that I'll be installing soon!

    On spray adhesive you need to let it flash or tack up before adhereing the pieces together. It should say on the directions on the can. Usually a 10 minutes.

      Yes sir, good point. We did follow the instructions that said to wait one minute before putting them together, but we just cut that out of the edit. Maybe we should have left that in. Thanks for looking out for us!

    Love watching your videos Ellie! Pro tip - go to the local U-Pull it yard and get your seat belt trim for the back seat from a modern car. The trim pieces will look so much better!

    Good work once again. Keep it up. Also, you can let Holley know I have purchased an EFI kit for my Mustang. Largely because of your videos which proved the value and general ease of install. I will be showcasing it on my channel as well once it gets here.

    Excellent work and the end result looks really nice. The only problem I see is you are cutting the package tray, we call them the parcel shelf in Australia, and not reinforcing the sections you cut out. The flanges, that's the part that is like a step down, are for strength for the factory holes, that is their only function. You cut the flanges off and you loose the strength the factory built into that part, without reinforcements that section is now much weaker than it already was.

      Thank you for the encouragement and that information. Maybe we should look at welding in some metal to reinforce that area in the near future. Thank you again!

    To follow what you're taking out of the garage, often things that other people make, or that you buy as a replacement part, aren't perfect either. More often than not a compromise is necessary. Great video, keep up the good work!

    Nice job! If you find that the vinyl starts to peel, I would suggest using 3M's "Super 77" spray glue. Costs a few dollars more but sticks like...well, glue! Spray both the vinyl and the board and let them tack up. Probably wouldn't even need to put weights on it. P.S. my 16 yo daughter got her license a few months ago but doesn't have nearly as cool a car as you! Have fun!

    Pro tip 2 - always solder your electrical connectors. You will be much happier with the long term result!

    • @hughjohnson2674
      @hughjohnson2674 2 роки тому

      Crimping is easier, safer and more efficient, it’s why they don’t solder on racing cars, and don’t allow it on aircraft or spacecraft.

    any chance you still have the original or kept the "pattern" piece? I need a paper template to pattern a new tray from for a twin to carl - son's 65 falcon futura 4 door - but we didn't HAVE a package tray in it when we acquired it...

    What material did you use for package tray? Thanks

    • @ElliesGarage
      @ElliesGarage  3 роки тому

      We used marine vinyl. You can find it at just about any fabric store with lots of colors to pick from. But we definitely should have sprayed both the vinyl and the board before we let them get tacky and put them together.

    Looks great and like you said. The satisfaction of knowing you did it yourself. Hope you connected the 3rd brake light to the brake switch under the dash and not to one of the tail lights as it will blink with that tail light when the turn signal is on. Turn on the turn signals and watch , see what it does. Great work otherwise. Love it.

      Thank you so much! Yes, we should be good. We actually rewired with a complete kit from Painless, so the third brake light wire was right there for us to use. Thanks again for looking out for us!

      @@davidkastin4240 not many electronics that come from china are good though lol, but I've had good luck with some stuff. My dad had a bunch of cheap chinese voltage regulators go out in a very short period on his 1989 dodge truck and the OEM one he ended up getting has been working for 5 years now.
