Hi Ellie, I don't know how I am just now finding your channel. I have a 1965 2 dr Falcon that I'm starting to restore. It was my first car I got in '85 when I started working at my dad's machine shop. I'm a Master Engine Machinist and engine rebuilder. I'll have my youtube channel up and running in a couple weeks. I'm always glad to see other women and girls working on their cars. You're doing an awesome job!

Great job. With every action (steering column) there is an equal and opposite reaction (floor shifter).😮
Think I'll stick with my "3 on a tree".
No $ and no sponsors 😢
Love watching your videos though !❤

Hi Ellie I don't know how Im just now finding your channel anyways I bought my first car back on October 7th 2022 it's also a 4 door 65 falcon. Mines a base model (barley any options) it has the 170 inline 6 the C4 automatic, am radio, heater and is actually a cigarette lighter delete car but the guy i bought it from put a cigarette lighter in it. I have to fix the rear main seal, replace the carburetor, replace the fuel pump, put a new exhaust system on it new tires and i want to put a header on it so i can run duel exhaust. I also gotta finish the interior. I payed 850 bucks for my falcon .i live in Pennsylvania my falcon a few odd quirks on my falcon are . It only has front arm rest , only front seat belts ,no courtesy light(dome light don't turn on when you open the doors) no glove box light, and no reverse lights

The floor shifter looks great! It's perfect for when the bucket seats happen.

I feel like bucket seats would look a bit odd in a 1965 falcon, but beauty is in the eye of the beholder

Ellie , I have watch you modernize an antique automobile . You are amazing. Your Dad and brother are pretty cool guys too. Keep up the good work.

That'd be awesome with a 4 speed manual transmission and 260. The floor shift probably will be better in the long run just because the linkages in the column sometimes wear and cause issues. More of an issue with the 3 speed manual transmissions since they get shifted a lot more but can be with auto transmission too.

Might be time to up your upholstery skills by sewing up a color matched shift boot.

How do you like working with that scissor type lift? Any pros and cons you noticed while working on Carl? Love the videos-even tho I have a ‘64 F100- I learned a bunch from your videos! Keep the good work!

You are going to be an expert. May I suggest... that you write a book on this adventure. On how to repair and restore older cars. I think you could make enough to buy a house for cash. Really!

All of this work to eliminate the most convenient shifter ever devised and replace it with a unit that occupies too much space and doesn't have reverse light or gear indicator. BTW, factory floor shifters are mounted on a box that's welded to the side of the trans tunnel so as to provide clearance for the shifter arm.

I really like that sporty floor shifter. The fact it interfaces so well with your Dakota Digital instrument panel is a real bonus. Going digital on the instruments is a real plus; it looks less fiddly than reusing the old, analogue gauges. Aloha, and take care!❤

  • @Irishfan

This is on change I would not have done. It seems to me it would have been easier to shorten the rod in the steering column than to do what you did. My big question is WHY?

Shouldn't the digital readout read P-R-N-D-D-L, or is the Dakota Digital not able to be programmed for the dual range 1965 C4 and the O is for the 1-2-3 Drive and the D is for the 2-3 Drive? Or possibly, does your rebuilt C4 use a later C4 valve body that is actually P-R-N-D-2-1?

Fine work Ellie, Jerry and Dad. You can see the enjoyment Jerry has in doing this work and teaching you. Job well done. Its awesome that you handled the interface. Does it solve the Neutral Safety Switch that was deleted? I normally dont suggest anything but the switch is good to have with an automatic. A manual trans will just jerk, but an auto will take off on you.
If it happens during service and your out of the car...
