Now THIS is how you make a video!!! Tell me exactly the info I need in 1:08, no life story, no blooper reel, no useless nonsense. Thank you for helping me get my exhaust back together properly and not wasting my time. Keep up the excellent work Mr. Holcomb!!!
Totally agree!
thank you. 9 years later and your still helping us blue collar folks 🙏🙏
Nice, easy and short explanation, rather professional
Good job thanks... I got a ford tempo...and I need to change the donut tomorrow.
I hope all will go well.
Excellent. Ignore the negative comments from shops and mechanics who want to charge you for an entire new exhaust system.
Thanks! Just the video I was looking for.
Straight to the point thank you
Finally been looking for hrs Thank you
Thanks man i need a couple donut gaskets i didnt know they exist
thats exactly the kind of thing i need to know before i get started. Thank you!
Makes sense why my spring bolts wouldn’t close looks like I had too wide of a bolt
Thank you!
Thanks!!
Thanks
I have a 98 Toyota Corolla and I just had this done with the front donut period every now and then it makes noise, does this mean that it was not tightened properly??
VERY HELPFUL. THANK YOU SIR.
This is such an important step I am surprised I have not seen another vid explaining this I watched about 100so far !! Thatnk You
its helps like yours tht saves us money😊. thanks from the Great White North💪
Great tips. may I ask where did you buy those springs? Thanks
well i just found out that my exhaust manifold have 2 broken bolts on the driver side and i have to change the bolts and of course change the gasket but i'm going to put a better gasket so i don't have to do the job again. so let me ask you this it's best if i do both sides instead of just doing one side. the passenger side is good but i want to change the bolts to stainless bolts and change the gasket so i can be straight so please help me out
I put it all together and have an exhaust leak out the bottom of the flange connection. I can't get the muffler and rear exhaust assembly to line up (they hang in kind of a "v"). They are suspended by those rubber exhaust supports. They seem fine, but maybe those need replacing? Also, the walker muffler looks like it needs weld nuts but I can't find any (the holes are WAY too big for the standard nuts that came with the spring bolts, and normal steel washers that fit the bolt size barely cover the holes and seem to be shouldering a lot of force...). Thoughts, anyone?
I discovered my squeaking noise coming from underneath is at this point. Sprayed some silicone grease on it and it went away. But returned days later since the heat from the exhaust pipe would dry that up of course.
I've checked and the bolts are as tight as you can get them.
Although I'm not hearing any exhaust leaks. Would replacing the exhaust ring solve the problem anyway?
I'm having the same issue, did you figure it out?
How much torque do you apple on the spring bolt, or as long as there is spaces in the spring you are good?
Just do not tighten with spring completely tension-ed (no space between coils)
Do you need to use copper grease or exhaust putty around the gasket? I keep getting conflicting answers!
would you know of a non-welding (since I don't weld) muffler exhaust pipe combo for a 1976 cj7 jeep? (with 258 4.2l i6 AND an 85 cj7 exhaust manifold and intake manifold) Prefer the flow through muffler and is pre-cat. Thanks for your video! :)
Massachusetts here as well! 👍👊
Thank you sir
i love you
You have to mount the donut gasket onto the male portion FIRST before bringing the mating female....or you will crush the gasket and there will be a gas leak.....The bolt is designed to be screwed on so much to allow for the length to compress a certain amount and flex when there is vibration from the engine and the road....but then ALWAYS maintains tensile compression on the donut gasket to ensure a close contact at all time....
Shit ..i honestly didnt know that...thanks man
this would explain why my exhaust sounds like it has a hole! The donut isnt in fully!
The most important part is which direction does the gasket go?
I literally can only go one way
Flat side toward exhaust manifold over the protruding piece of pipe..... "rounded" side toward the down-stream exhaust pipe flange.
For clarity....the shoulder of the bolt rides against the *exhaust manifold* flange ( the flange closer to the engine)...for this to work properly.....right? So the "hole" diameter of the other flange downstream..... the *exhaust piping* flange.... needs to be large enough for this bolt shoulder to pass through.....right?
Just add a washer between the small bolts to hold them in place, if both holes are big that the small nut wont even hold them
Thanks you Precise, interesting, intelligent and short. Should have picked yours first.
What if the gasket shows after assembling between the catalytic converter and exhaust manifold pipe?
It's supposed to be partially visible......
What about the condition of the pipes? How can it seal against all that black crud? The other pipe fits inside that donut, will it leak right there?
W kind of bolt is that what is the bolt name. Please thank you...
What's a reasonable price for a mechanic to change front donut gasket and bolts(very rusty)?
Cheers mate
"Cheers mate"😂😂😂😂 that's 🌈 as f..
iv done this but the bottom of the spring is squeaking on the exhust piece i have changed springs to new ones and i have put heavy duty ones on and it still squeaks i have changed gasket 8 times and changed lower engine mount nuffink is working i need help please the only way i stoped the squeak is to have nuts loose but to day it came off so i was going to put 2 nuts on to lock it but there ent enough thread it will squeak if i tight it to much
Chris Stainer WD-40 lol
Don't use a mesh style gasket like the one pictured 0:25 it will leak 100% of the time.
What do you use? Mine is leaking and looks just like this and new on a honda element.
@@paquesepas6696 I bought one from an ep3 that was completely solid material.
No....example.....expensive Toyota OEM piece is exactly this....the cheaper Walker unit is blank/silver color without mesh.
Hi Bob I'm Jimmy Holcombe from NC. Nice to meet you, lol
You forgot to tell how much to tighten the spring side of the bolts! Only one person asked this question, but received no answer! Please be a little more specific! Thanks!
Niichii Ca-In most of them have ridges on the bolt to prevent over tightening. just tighten it till you get there and then give it a good crank
ok so i guss im gonna loose it back and fill it with caulking and retighten it. so non instructive we already figure what he said.
Andy Cyr Hey Andy, how'd that work out for you? Seriously.
@@brandyf1932 yeah im pretty curious as to what made him go "ah yes! Ill caulk this very hot pipe thats supposed to have play in it right up! Thatll fix er!"
@@murphy874 maybe he’s gonna use concrete!
Iput a new gasket but it's leaking worse now. does it need to break in?
no
Did you replace the springs? You should always replace the spring/s when exhaust is removed. They lose their tension.
if this video helped you probably shouldn't be touching cars..
Charles Bergeron why?
Why is that? Everybody starts somewhere...
Cause this stuff is so complicated?
😂sadly this video helped
Yeah because everyone was born with knowledge about exhaust gaskets lmao what a stupid comment
