- The easiest way to install new exhaust flange bolts into an old, rusty exhaust manifold, without using vice grips, or pliers of any kind, and without damaging the threads on the new bolts.
Thanks for posting this...as many have said, this is a very old technique for installing a threaded stud. However, not all people looking things up on UA-cam are seasoned experts and know all these techniques and tricks. And, BTW, your explanation and filming was great. Some of the "experts" are so spastic, both verbally and with their camera, the content is practically worthless. You did great.
What a genius idea. Thank you so much. I wish I saw this video sooner before ruined one bolt.
I've seen this another videos but you did a great job of showing how the two flanges go together of the nuts. Great job thanks
Great idea! So simple that most people wouldn't think of it!!
Excellent video of the two nut workaround for exhaust studs without damaging the threads or buying a kit.
Helped out. Ran into this issue installing a Corsa Exhaust. Thanks for the video!
Thanks for shairing.
Helped me out. now off to get new studs and nuts.
I was lost. Did not want to get New Cat very expensive.
You saved me aton of Money.

Wow, that is incredibly simple and effective thank you. I would have struggled greatly trying to screw this in with one nut. My turbo lost one of its flange studs while I was taking out the catalytic converter on my Audi A4 b8.5. was semi concerned how I was gonna screw it in. Off I go to install my new test pipe!
Forgot about that trick. 😉Thanks for reminding me.👍 wish it was that easy with it still being in the vehicle.🙄
Well done sir, well made video for a phone. Exactly what I thought you would do.
Great video just made my day soo easy
"Excellent video using basic tools thank you".
🗨️🤓👍
Thanks very helpful and universal. Just used on my Honda atc 200x 👍🏻👍🏻
Thanks for the tip! Great stuff!
Awesome thanks. Changing the gasket on a 67 mustang and the nut was cross threaded. Old stud came out instead of the nut coming off so I'm changing hardware. Never done studs that don't have a head to wrench on
Thanks for posting these tips.
Great idea! Thanks!
Great video! Very explanatory!
Thanks, very helpful 👍
Big help and thanks for making tthe video
Thank you perfect information for my application
Thanks ❤
Just run a tap through the manifold side, then you can spin 'em in by hand. The studs are interference fit on the nut side so it'll bottom out the stud when you torque down the nut.
And don't forget the nickle antiseize on everything, making it easy on the next guy is a good idea, since it's usually you.
Certain brands don't tap their bolts correctly and call it an interference fit... Tap the bolts as well or have fun drilling them out again after following the brands "directions".
Great vid amigo. Answer to my problem
This helped me. Thanks!
Wow, that was a good trick thank you
Is this why that "mechanic" couldn't take them off my car? I swear. I'm gonna check myself. Thanks, good sir.
Awesome, thanks just what i was looking for
Glad I could be of help!
Thank you. I'll be doing this tomorrow morning.
That's the oldest trick in the book rookie LOL good job
Thanks
This is a game changer
Thank you Sir!
Nice trick!
so use two nuts and lock them together. glad to see it
Work smart not hard 👌 nice vid man
now can you do this the opposite way to get them off without removing the whole manifold off the car?
Great share,thank you.
How do you know which end is supposed to go on which side?
Awesome bro thank you 🙏🏻
Most helpful!
Brilliant
Great video, Thanks!
You can also use some pb blaster to spray the hole
That's true, pretty much any penetrating oil will work.
Nice!
Thank you sir that helped alot
No problem, glad to be able to help you out.
Very good video but one video says to put anti-seize on threads
That's a good rule of thumb.
We’re did you get those bolts and nuts? What size are they?
I got them from Oriellys, the size is M10-1.50 × 62mm
And the part number is 03133 by Dorman
Awesome
Should this be a good way to back the stud out ?? before I get down there and start on my headers swap
Yes, as long as the nuts are tightened enough together, and it wouldn’t hurt to use some penetrating oil where they screw into the manifold/header, especially if they are rusted in
To back it out you would need to wrench the bottom nut. Otherwise you will just loosen the top nut if the stud is stuck in there.
Smart move.
Perfection
Good trick
What size are those studs?
M10-1.50 × 62mm

Aren't those "studs"?
THANKS BRO!
First thing on this is anti seize on stud! Don’t forget that
How do you get the old ones out?
I used a pair of vice grips to grip onto the old studs, and a hammer to tap on the vice grips in a counterclockwise rotation to break them free due to them being rusted into the exhaust manifold.
@@revmatchstudios is this the same method for a down pipe on 99 accord..
It should be very similar.
have you tried putting the stud in the freezer for a while to shrink it a little?
Wouldn't this work if you used a regular boot with a head on it ? Good idea though
Am i wrong or should the bolts come in thru the other side??
how many nuts are suppose to be one each stud?
How do you take them out ?
you came up with that idea?
I wish, but no, my dad taught me this trick a long time ago.
Why don’t you, I don’t know, just chase the threads? And then just installed them by hand until they bottom out...just saying
That is a great Idea, and would work just fine, I was only working with the tools that I had available to me, and I didn't have a tap and die set.
If your bolt doesn't spin easily it's because the threads are messed up. If you look closely there's 1 of the threads that he stripped hanging on the stud when he removed it. This video should be called how to cross thread. Just go get a proper tap smh 🤦🏽♂️
That's a stupid design. Those bolts should have a 6 point head to get a 8mm socket or whatever the size may be
Doing my turbo drain tomorrow
How did it go?
@@revmatchstudios like a boss got my studs at granger I’m gonna stud the cold side as well
He says he came up with it LOL..this trick has been around since before he was born
nice bro but what about the 2nd one 😂
My boy sound like the joker lol
ya but what if you don't have tools...then what smarty.
Lol, then chances are you wouldn't have broken the stud off in the first place so you wouldn't need to replace them.
@@revmatchstudios There's no logic allowed in this game. try again please
I thought my header was a lost cause haha
at 1:45 he says " what I've come up with " ...as if it is your invention .!!!! the technique is called the " double nut technique ".... used by any mechanic who knows what he is doing ..!!!...anyway great video , clear pics and audio
young man well done for figuring it out, but clearly you haven't been on the planet long enough yet! anyone with basic knowledge would know this !
Ok, now do all that procedure under your car. Good video, but it didn’t work for me.
an old injun trick .. injunuity
It's too shiny for the camera
YOU cane up with that???? I got news for ya, that's been used for 50 years. Nice try though.
Oh you're a "genius"! Whoever would have thought to lock two nuts together to run a stud in?! So glad you "came up with that"!
Just put them on a wire buffing wheel
Dont forget LOCK TIGHT!!!
Bro I but three nuts on it and full sent it
What kind of phone did you use to record this?
The quality is on point. 👍 Great Video. 5 Stars.
