Mr Bob thank you very much for being very thorough and precise with your teachings your step by step explanation make it easy for me understand, and watching you do it as your explaining it helps me as well because sometimes I can't hear you because it gets pretty loud at the garage but I can always count on following your lead and do as you do to get mr through the task at hand thank you sir for all your help I really appreciate how you teach .
great video, for me you missed a real important part though, the foot pounds on the bolts...?will it vary by car and location? my guess would be 30-40 ft.ib
More often than not, the section that the donut slides over would be badly pitted from corrosion. In many forums people recommend Ultra-Copper RTV. Though it is labeled as being oxygen-sensor safe, I'm wondering if a safer and more reliable solution would be to filling out the pitting with high temperature steel-epoxy then sanding it down. Some swear by Versachem Crack Sealer, which is ceramic based, for this task.
To add some clarity....as you didn't show it....the final installation should have the springs be NOT fully compressed...there should be a little air-space between each coil of the coil spring.

@@TheBlacktom I’m kinda late here but it seems to depend on which exact one. On the same website and the same brand of gasket I’ve seen from a couple of dollars to like 50 dollars.
Great video. I like the amount of detail that you provide. I have an exhaust leak for my 2015 chevy silverado. Do you have any pointers or advice that I would find helpful or useful before I get underneath there?
I have a Corolla with a rusty exhaust donut but isn't too loud. I've ordered a new exhaust donuts and bolts and will get changed next year. I think Japanese cars only use them.
It was a stupid video, they didn't even show how to fit the gasket on or how pipes fit together, PLUS, no washers, bolts too short, no anti-seize compound, NOT suppose to use silicone on exhaust connections because it destroys O2 sensors and to top it off he uses Hardware Hank cheap junk hardware that will break in two weeks.
In many exhaust systems the flex Donut gasket connection is BEFORE the catalytic converter, making it BEFORE the downstream 02 sensor, so you can definitely damage your 02 sensor if you glob the silicone right before the sensor.
@@icur Some silicone compounds, like Ultra Copper, say "oxygen sensor safe" on the packaging. I would think that they would be safe for such use as in the video.
why in the world is it so difficult to find how much you are supposed to tighten the spring bolts? I'm. assuming bottoming them out is completely redundant
I discovered my squeaking noise coming from underneath is at this point. Sprayed some silicone grease on it and it went away. But returned days later since the heat from the exhaust pipe would dry that up of course. I've checked and the bolts are as tight as you can get them. Although I'm not hearing any exhaust leaks. Would replacing the exhaust ring solve the problem anyway?
guess you didnt really listen. yes, they are there for a reason. you could get by temporarily BUT you will break it eventually without the spring loaded bolts.
Hi, i had it on my montero and figure it out its getting a noise when the engine got to aircon in full. Is it with Bolt Spring not enough to that make noise?
I've been working on my 74 f100 360 and I've worked on old cars/ trucks all my life and never had as much trouble as this one. Even smashed my finger almost off. Can't seem to get it on
Smashed your finger almost off LMAO has me cracking up in bed right now. Just thinking how many times a smashed my shit while wrenching and thinking it was gonna die and fall off....
I think this is what I need for my 97 legacy outback, the spring bolts are completely rusted and I see no springs... the flange is wide open and It’s leaking. Everything is rusted and I think the donut deteriorated or something I don’t see that either lol it’s terrible

Yeah sooo easy, any one could clearly torque on exhaust bolts like that and break the rust weld... I should just like my Granny change my exhaust if it's that easy.
The editing of this video is indescribable.

im waaaayy to high for that loop....

That threw me off 😂
damn.iThought iWas the only one high watching this shit
im tripping
Dude wayy to high
I learned alot. And keep in mind, don't leave excessive lube on your nuts. Your tool cold slip off. Lol.
it was a good enough video, but the looping was making my brain glitch
Amused. I’ve literally heard the word “nut” more times in this video than I have in the last month alone. Lemme tell you. That’s an achievement.
Was this an outtake from the movie "Ground Hog Day"?
Great work and outstanding vocabulary, Sir! Looking forward to taking a stab at this project. Thanks for the excellent instructions.

I tried versachem on a muffler seam leak let it cure 24 hrs and it melted and blew right out !
What infant did the film editing for this?
Great video though, besides the loops and zooming✊🏾
Warning......do not watch this stoned....your head will explode.
Those are the easiest exhaust bolts ive ever seen to come off lol
Yeah, this a**hole is acting as if he can outsmart the removal of every rusty fastener.
Yeah, as soon as I saw that first nut loosen I knew this video was from the Land of Make Believe. :-)
I think it was the 13 times that he oiled his nuts.
Hehe once I broke mine loose they came off with my fingers on my 96 outback, of course it has plenty of time release auto chassis lube
THANK YOU SO MUCH! THIS HELPED - AND I SAVED A LOT OF MONEY!
Somebody give Bob a 🍻 (beer)! 👍🏾

Same way you remove it you can install it back
what's with the looping?

I have a Corolla with a rusty exhaust donut but isn't too loud. I've ordered a new exhaust donuts and bolts and will get changed next year. I think Japanese cars only use them.
I've got some high temp gasket maker. Could I use that instead of silicone?
Yes, it's just to hold it in place.
God forbid the factory would use stainless hardware in this high corrosion environment.

In many exhaust systems the flex Donut gasket connection is BEFORE the catalytic converter, making it BEFORE the downstream 02 sensor, so you can definitely damage your 02 sensor if you glob the silicone right before the sensor.

Excellent for DIYers. Ignore the comments from shops who want to charge you for an entire new exhaust system when all you need is a simple gasket.
Yes it's very cheap amzn.to/2SVrI2u
Do you absolutely need power tools for this or can I break the gasket off without an air hammer and loosen the bolts without a powered driver?

do you have a video for Lexus rx350 front Y exhaust pipe gasket replacement?

Where do I get those spring bolts ?
Is that what's known as exhaust manifold to pipe gasket?
Very helpful video, thank you!
My head felt like I was gltiching on the repeating lines LOL
I have heard that silicone will poison the sensors.
Everything I have read, says don't use any type of silicone on the exhaust side of the system. It will ruin your convertor.
But then the customer won't bring the car back for a new converter and the mechanic will miss out on the extra profit.
General rule is not to use anything in front of the cat (s) unless it`s approved for the purpose.
I think with that intense heat it will carbonize.
Can I install the new gasket without requiring silicone or adhesive? Thanks.
Actually, If you have an O2 sensor after the flange, you should not use any silicone stuff, as it will deteriorate your cat and/or O2 sensor.
damn the heat resistant silicon thats the key, i cussed so much with mine moving and dropping out!! thanks
Where can i get sucket wrench thats a really handy tool

A proper mechanic would use a 6 point wrench to avoid it slipping
seems to be a judgement call on how rusty the fastener is - in this scenario, yeah 6 pt would seem to be better choice. As well as eye protection.
