I've been a proponent of peening pins for years. I do epoxy the scales on, but I use dummy pins which I will remove before I shape the handle. Then I peen in the permanent pins after I ream the holes. Mechanical connection that is better than any epoxy!
I have the same calipers. One day I was driving to the hardware store when I realized the Snap-On truck in front was pulling into a business. These are what he sold me - a Harbor Freight product! ;D
My question is, you say your way is the right way and others are doing and telling us the wrong way, what if they are right and you are wrong, how do we know?
@cliffordmaynard6559 it's your choice how you put scales on. Sometimes I put them on with both epoxy and peen, that said, watch the full video next time, and you would clearly hear me say all this.
@@Kodiak_Edge it's always good to find out firsthand but it might take a while! I made a bush knife in 5160 and epoxied the Lilac scales straight onto the taper tang with six Lilac pins. It's going to take me perhaps years to find out how long the G-Flex epoxy is going to hold out. Perhaps decades - indeed I may not live to see the day - but I do take your word for it that eventually the G-Flex will deteriorate and the scales will loosen off. It stands to reason. As a rule synthesised compounds are not as stable as natural materials. So since I understand your reasoning and can principally agree without seeing for myself, I might consider drilling out those Lilac pins and peening in some nickel silver, some day :D
@@dongkhamet1351 Sure but if we consider how a buck knife and their scales are put on no epoxy is ever used and the peening process has preserved these knife scales in tact to the test of time.
You think? Now you will have to come back for my next planned video for reasembling the knife from my last knife video. You just might see it in action. 1100 views in 5 days on this one, not bad thus far, just think how Manny the one that's coming will get. You will be notified when it's up. You just need to subscribe. Thanks!

Double insurance for sure!

Great video!
Thanks for this video.

To be certain you'd have to try both ways for yourself

I guess if he doesn't, he will never know himself lol😅@dongkhamet1351

"Brass will get harder than steel over time"? 🧐
It can yes indeed but just heat it up to anneal it!
The vid would've been much more effective if you actually did the peening, not just talk about it! 🤔😱
