You saved me hours of my life. I've been trying to do this manually and I was pulling my hair out trying to figure it out lol. Thank you for making such an important and extremely helpful video! God bless!
Very helpful. One other method, provided you have access to a DAW, is to build and export a click track (on whatever beat or measure intervals you like) that matches the music track. Then you can drop that into Fairlight and do the transient detection thing. The advantage is that for less beat intensive [let's say orchestral] music tracks, you can still use this system.
Thanks for posting this video. It clearly explained a lot about trying to sync audio to video, etc. I didn’t know what transient detect was but it makes perfect sense. Also, I use Epidemic Sound and didn’t know what stems were. Now I do. Thank you.
I did not know about it and would do the usual of marking to the beat of the song after repeated listening. This is a absolute game changer for me and I wish to Thank You. Yes I will be using this with pleasure.
tysm ur the goat like i used to just do it manually each beat all of them took so long so i just decided to stop now with this i will be coming back to making videos again!! tysm
club DJ 16 years, and counted 8's for every new song I'd bring in to get the beats per minute. This is what I would use to figure the beat or rhythm for a sound track /video transition point. I saw this used on an app editor, but wanted to see how it's done on PC...this video helped A LOT
Love the practicality of your videos! To do this, i just vibed to the song lol (i wouldn't get the markers frame perfect but it still did the job), from now on i'll try this method, seems much more reliable!
Thank you very much for this function that I did not know, and which will help me a lot to synchronize the sound and the change of shot in cut in my video editing!!!
Thanks for this tutorial! Now I understand how to create this nice effect I've seen in many videos, trailers etc. I didn't spend any time in Fairlight yet, but I'm wondering why only there's an option, within the timeline settings, to change the timeline scrolling. Wished this would be also available in the Edit part!
So Easy to do!! Thanks. I enjoy your channel. Great information. I edit many music videos where the music was recorded in my studio, so I have access to all my own stems.
Can you help me? Somehow the transient detection in Davinci Resolve don't show any line whatsoever in my computer unlike in your video that you have shown. Maybe it's just not visible, so I pressed up and down keys, but nope, it's not that as well. Maybe I just need to wait. Left my computer for hours, it's still the same. It can't be my computer since it's very new. It can't be the music since I can hear the drum beat or "transient" loud and crystal clear. I've been banging my head for a whole week now, trying to find what's the solution for this issue. Asking for help on the internet, no one answered. Trying to find the solution to fix this issue, but I guess no one had this same problem like me? Please, can you help me with this? I can't give you the link of the picture since UA-cam didn't allow me to give any link for some reason. But there's surely ONE person asking this exact same issue in Blackmagic design forum, but no one answered on how to solve this. If you managed to solve this, that would be very wonderful.
Alternatively you could put a gate on the drum track and raise the level so that only the loudest points got through. Gives you a filtered visual for easy reference. Good video btw.
damn that was very helpful. i found out that my bluetooth earphones had delay in them and edited using those. it would sound fine while during the edit then later when i exported it the whole video was off beat. it was basically trash and i had to do it again. this solves it i guess
Thank you very much for the tutorial, I want to ask you, is there a way to tell the timeline that it has to be at 120 bpm, for example, since it is a function that I like a lot about Vegas, since knowing the bpm of my song I set the time line and done, but I don't see a simple way to do it in other programs, thank you very much
Very good tutorial. I´m on a 25fps timeline and I can only set markers on every frame not between frames. Is there a way to set markers in between frames so that the markers match the lines more precisely?
I'm not sure I understand the use case. Most audio is going to have 44100 samples per second so that's something like 1700 samples per frame. So adding a marker is going to match to the nearest frame. You would need to have a project at 44100 fps to match exactly.
Is there a way to use the transient as part of the formulas we can use in attribute fields in edit or fusion pages? For example, visual equalizer effect. By comparison, it's possible to use a midi file to influence an attribute of another object (lets say the length of a square, can increase or decrease) add a duplicate node and it can become a visualizer of a sort. By formula i mean the math we can use in the fields to keep symmetry or create reactivity to change in another field
I think you're confusing snares with high-hats. In that song, you're adding markers on both the bass drum and the snares, but you're skipping the high-hats.
Hello!! is it possible to sync photos to marks of a song? lets say I upload a song and add marks (M) with the tempo. Then I want to add images. Is there a way to do it automatically so photos just sync to marks?
So sad that this didn't actually work on my audio, at least for the section were I struggle to pick the right place for the beat, because it's so quick🥲 but worked for the rest of it, silver linings😅 UPDATE: I found the way around the issue! I found the last section at which davinci correctly identified the beat and then counted the number of frames (or clicks to the right) between transient points and then just manually counted out those amounts until I got to my fast section of music that davinci struggled with. I marked in those beat chunks and voila, it's perfectly in with the beat! It's not a very elegant solution, but it works!😅
Maybe I don't understand something but transients and markers is definitely not a 'quick way' for beat detection. I recently had an opportunity to work with BetEdit for Resolve and this was a dream experience...but the trial expired. Anyway.... maybe BMD Team will implement something quicker for beat edits.

awesome idea, cause I really only want to snap to a 4 bar measure
That's a really great idea! That works even if you change speed of audiotracks. Thanks!!
how i do that
Love the Solid Color Bkgd Effect as a means to illustrate why we're doing this marking process. Thanks for showing this technique.
Thanks for posting this video. It clearly explained a lot about trying to sync audio to video, etc. I didn’t know what transient detect was but it makes perfect sense. Also, I use Epidemic Sound and didn’t know what stems were. Now I do. Thank you.
This is a gamechanger for my production workflow!! Thanks so much!
This was very helpful. Thanks. Jumping up and down using the transients as a reference for marker placement is a good technique.
I'm just starting in learning to edit especially to music and this is soooo helpful thank you so much!
I did not know about it and would do the usual of marking to the beat of the song after repeated listening. This is a absolute game changer for me and I wish to Thank You. Yes I will be using this with pleasure.
Thank you!!! This will save me hundreds of hours in manual marking. You sir, are a gentleman and a scholar. 😃👍
didn’t know about the transient view! Great tip for editing music to video. Thanks!

You're welcome!

This one is really cool with solid color example.....
Great little tutorial! I'm very new to DaVinci and this is going to be a huge time saver.
OMG, you are a lifesaver! Might keep watching all of your vids now!🙏🔥
Amazing!!
Been looking so long for this!!
thanks dude, explanation easy to understand, congrats
Thanks man, as a new Davinci user this is eye opening :)
Helpful, thanks. I do wish they would implement beat detection and have it so the detection lines can be scene on Edit page (as Vegas now has).
I've finally found a cogent description of audio detect here at JayAreTV. Thanks a bunch Jay!
Hit a homerun with that last color demonstration
Thank you very much for this function that I did not know, and which will help me a lot to synchronize the sound and the change of shot in cut in my video editing!!!

Great video on Transient Detection. Also BPM Grid works good in this case. Thank you very much.
This is great, thank you. Is there any way to automatically add markers based of the transients? Feels slightly laborious to go through and add them
Best tips yet
Thanks! Exactly what I was looking for to save time
Wauw, great explanation. This save me a lot of time! Thanks A lot. 👍🏽
Seems like a lot of people didn't know about this. You're welcome, I'm happy I could help!
So Easy to do!! Thanks. I enjoy your channel. Great information. I edit many music videos where the music was recorded in my studio, so I have access to all my own stems.
I usually just tap the "M" key as the music plays.
Transient view was very illuminating.
thank you so much! youve made this so much easier!!
Thanks man you're a lifesaver
exactly what i wanted to know to dive into syncing clips flow to music beats....Thanks a lot!
You're welcome!
Great tip. Is there a way to adjust the transient detect to filer-out and/or pickup a particular frequency so accuracy can be improved?
you could try using a gate or eq, depending on what you want to achieve
Very useful. Thank you Jay.
Sensitivity nob would be a nice feature for the transient analyzer. (as in my DAW) thx 4 the vid.
Great tutorial, suscribed!
Very helpful video❤... Thanks 🙏...It will save a lot of time ❤️
Really helpfull thankyou! is there a alternative to Epidemic Sound?
oh i wish i could found you earlier just couple hours ago i edited 14 second transition clip but really that's impressive
Great video!!! Thanks a lot. You saved my time and bucks. Great!!!
fantastic, made it so easy to follow...thank you and a new sub
great - didnt know about the transient feature.
Thank you so much extremely helpful video!
very useful video, thanks man
Yes, fun and helpful info. Thank you!!
Wow, great tip and very helpful/useful. No more guessing. Thank you for making this video !!
Yep np, you're welcome!
Thanks brahhhhhh. Very helpful indeed
That was helpful. Thanks.

@@ByCy_ What are you using? I'm using Davinci 17.4.6 and the problem still there.
Thanks for the explanation :)
Thanks for this tip. Have a great day.
Yep you're welcome. Thanks you too!
Whoa. That. Was wicked cool! Thank you for this. 😃
this is gold
Good job big son!
awesome, would give this a try

Dude i was looking for the same thing and found this. Hope this helps it's a game changer for me.
Gonna try this
Is there any option nowadays to have auto marks for voice on audio? to know when a sentence starts and ends?
Awesome 👍👍
Capcut also automaticl does beat detect. all you gotta do is go to auto beat>beats 2. Job done in 5 seconds
separate your audio using an ai separator, use the bass line, or the guitar riffs separately to detect transients
Genius!
Thank you very much !
Thank you

you are a great source of information, many, many thanks for your sharings. Grazie ^|^
how to you add a marker to all the transient lines all at once? or is it not possible?

did davinci has a feature to auto detect beats like capcut.. ?

Awesome !!
Is there an easy way to edit to the lyric syllables? I’m a music teacher and need to make lyric videos to help my students learn songs.
awesome
Thanks 👍 sar
Tap the "M" key as the music plays.
It's more fun.

What version of Resolve is this in? I can't seem to find the button in Resolve 16 in the fairlight section, guess it must be 17+
I am unable to skip to next transient and I have all the same settings that you showed us. What am I doing wrong?
thanks doood!
is there a way to edit to the track in fusion?
Add a media in node in your comp, in the inspector for that node you should see a tab for audio.
Great
how to setup the keys so you can jump transients?
I explained in this tutorial.
Dumb question what is the key for down to make it move back and forth between transients. I definitely can’t find it
I'm assuming it's the down arrow on your keyboard
@@sonipitts I pressed it. I had to map previous and next clip to the up and down on the keyboard which is stupid it didn’t come that way by default
thanks
1:50 annihilated my eardrums.
Time to UPDAT this video to the newer 19.3 Beta

What are "stems"?
the arrow down doesnt work, how to make it work?
Basically the old ways are always better, listen to the song, smash the M button then adjust the position if needed
I thought i was gonna get rickrolled when you played that song
My 'press down' did not skip to the beat. help me
谢谢!!
