Yeah, this would help me. I’m still not sure how to do this. Hold L or R right before grabbing ledge to buffer, and that’s it? Or does it still require a frame perfect (or close to it) tech input to do this? His frame data list made it look like you need another input when your invincibility runs out
For anyone unsure how to do the inputs for the tech, here's a breakdown: Inputs: * Grab Ledge while disabling rolling with L/R (there's several different ways and situations that can let you disable ledge roll) * (Any situation) --> Grab Ledge --> Input Analog L/R (During 'Cliff Catch') --> Roll is diabled * (in Air) Light Shield --> Grab Ledge --> Roll is disabled * Light Shield --> Pushed off ledge from attack (Keep Holding Light shield) --> Roll is disabled * PC Walk --> Input Analog L/R (During 'Cliff Catch') --> Roll is disabled * Wave Dash to Ledge (Keep L/R analog held down, don't release) --> Roll is disabled * Press Digital L/R right before you are hit to trigger tech window * Hit --> Tech * Hit --> Tech --> Attack (Bair/Shine/Whatever) * Not Hit --> No Tech, nothing happens * Not Hit --> No Tech --> Attack Input --> Forced Ledge Attack As Hax describes in the video, while you are in the animation of grabbing the ledge (called 'CliffCatch' in video) you can press down on L/R (light shield/analog input). What's worth noting here is once the ledge grab animation has finished and you've entered 'CliffWait', you are free to press in L/R (whatever shoulder button you pressed) and have nothing happen. It is impossible to trigger a ledge roll by changing the analog/digital value of the shoulder button. The only way to trigger a ledge roll with the shoulder button that you "locked out" is to release it and press in again. This is why when you press down fully on the shoulder button, you will not roll and only trigger a tech if you are hit (if you aren't hit, nothing happens). I recommend loading up melee and getting comfortable with grabbing the ledge and holding down L/R slightly to lock out ledge rolling. Wave Dashing to ledge is a convenient way to grab the ledge while already having a shoulder button pressed down (just make sure you are holding analog and not digital after performing the wave dash). From here it's standard teching behavior, simply fully press in L/R (whichever shoulder button you've locked out of ledge rolling) right before you are about to be hit and the tech will happen. As Hax mentions in the video you can input a directional attack after the tech input by using the same method to lock out L/R with the analog stick and inputting either A/B after attempting to tech the attack.
These seems huge vs marth in general and good for falcon edge guarding spacies. He now has another good way to deny ledge from spacies which is the hardest option for him to cover without overextending
The depth of melee is insane. Imagine in 20XXX when everyone uses all the under utilized tech Hax explores. There’s still so much more melee to be played my dude.
Not necessarily, to input an air dodge you need to hard press L or R (this is called digital press), but he mentions analog L/R which basically means "slighty pressing", this does not input an air dodge
Lol doesn’t tell you how to do it, you gotta grab ledge while holding lightshield. Then you press the other trigger while holding lightshield, this allows you to tech without forcing you to roll onto ledge. To roll back on ledge, just let go of lightshield
I think maybe adding a section on how exactly to do the input/techniques in slow mo would be a nice addition to your videos
homie went straight to quantum physics but forgot to teach us Newtonian
To be fair, thats a lot more work.

Thank you, really. Your explanation was easier to understand and deeper than Hax$'s, even providing examples.

When I studied in Japan in 2010 a Japanese player Thunder, used to do this alot. I never knew how he did it before
Only hax has the ability to make an easy tech hard to understand
Im still going to get forward smashed out of it
Isaiah was doing this 15 years ago. I'm convinced he was a time traveler.
Bruh isai is so iChat better and more legendary than anyone playing now, I’m trying to learn how
new techniques 20+ years later, what a game
If most games lived this long, I'm sure their metagames would develop as well, its just that most players move on before that can happen
this game is ridiculous

he said to press L or R while in the air, but wouldnt that just result in an air dodge?

Analog L or R, as in a light press.

please show the order of buttons and the timing of each press, its hard to look at frame data and work out exactly what to do

Wow this is indeed very good developpement

What if the Peach (and Marth) curl their upBs? Can they avoid getting hit by shine?
How should one curl their up b I’ve never heard of that

can i use the same trigger to lightshield and tech?
