    This fella addresses better--by far, the PESKY CYLINDER 8. It can be intimidating, but by piecing the smaller extensions together as you go into the plug chamber, you will be able to conquer this. Mine's a 2020 Ram 1500 Classic SLT 5.7L V8. The heater hoses and that dadgum wire cluster was REALLY in the way, but if you follow this guy's advice you'll be able to do it as a first-timer like I am. Cheers!

      @@briancano1806 Because you can't film it it's so tight! That's why he used the toilet paper roll to illustrate the valve cover hole of the cylinder that you're complaining about... if you already know how hard it is to get in there and still leave a comment bitching about how no one films it.... that leaves me to believe you have a special relationship with the short bus.

    FYI: You can also use a piece of 3/8in fuel hose approx. 8-12 in long to get plugs out/in. Has worked very well for me once you loosen plugs with socket as you explained.

    Where your ones are at the brake booster they make a thumb ratchet it works really well once you break the plug loose and you can turn the plug out an use four 3/8 swivel to pull it out that was my way of doing it. Thank you for the video it was very good. God bless you and keep you.

    I started the job before i watched the second half of the video and came to a similar solution to the drivers side cylinders, however i didnt have a long magnet tool on hand. Instead what i did was use a spark plug socket then a 2" extension then a universal joint. When it came to getting it in and out of the drivers side ones i just put side pressure on the socket against the spark plug well with one hand and pulled the extension with the other and was able to connect and disconnect the extension. I also had to climb on top on the engine to be able to reach. Having good manual dexterity is key.

    I had forgotten about Dodge's duel plug set up. Airplane have this redundancy because to ensure that you didn't lose a cylinder mid flight, not to enhance performance. It made sense 100 years ago when they had a short lifespan to begin with but with plugs going for 100,000 miles this makes zero sense, not even on an airplane.
    On the plugs: when I was a parts salesman I was told to NEVER try to gap plugs that came with that protective sleeve for two reasons. 1: They were pregapped and you shouldn't mess with perfection and 2: any attempt to gap them could remove the thin layer of platinum and shorten the life of the plug. Your thoughts on that.

    I just use a spark plug socket that is fastened by a wobble..bends around and the extension doesnt pop off the socket when i try to pull it off the spark plug

  • @user-uh9nr2wd1c
    @user-uh9nr2wd1c 9 місяців тому +1

    A quick blow down the tube before the socket helps too. Ive witnessed dirt down in the well from a prior entrys. Especially if someone's been swapping coils chasing a misfire. Better safe than sorry. Could be too late once the plugs out. Even blowing air down the opening of the plugs could blow something back through an open valve into the intake. Crank up and bam.

    This is my first time changing plugs on my 15' ram 1500. Normally I just buy them from the store for my 4cy. But seeing they take 16 I was curious about Amazon because of the price. I have read about people saying there are fakes on amazon. What is your experience and where do you buy your plugs from. At this point since I do only the best for my truck I will spend the extra $ and go to the retailer. I'm just curious about other people's experiences.

Couple of passes with an air wand outside will save you what surely to end up on your floor or in your face or eye if anyone had the misfortune of needing to be underneath it at any point. @@derekmcgraw9865 driver side, rear most, cylinder 7, all you have to do is drop the spark plug socket down the hole, then feed the socket you just dropped down the hole with a 3 inch short extention, click it into the socket and then spin it and push it onto the plug with your fingers to make sure it's seated.....then connect the ratchet to the tiny bit of the extention that is still sticking out of the hole a tiny bit past the valve cover. Loosen the plug with the ratchet just to break it free... now remove the ratchet from the extention and use your fingers to spin out the plug the rest of the way..... you'll see your extention "get taller" past the valve cover and it'll be easy to grab on to. On the reverse, now that the plug is completely free of the threads.....grab the extention, socket and plug out of the hole with your hand. If your extention is to long to clear the bump out on the fire wall then disconnect it from the socket and plug, and let the plug and socket drop back in the hole and fish out the socket and plug with a magnet stick that has a swivel type end... harbor freight has them for $4 www.harborfreight.com/hardware/magnets/18-inch-telescoping-magnet-37187.html or use something like this to snatch out the socket and plug www.harborfreight.com/hardware/magnets/flexible-magnetic-pickup-tool-94614.html .... FOR INSTALL, FIRST SPRAY YOUR SPARK PLUG SOCKET WITH WD40 or dielectric grease! ....put the new plug in the LUBED socket and drop both down the hole....to reinstall do everything above just in reverse. Connect the extention to the socket n plug that in the hole... hand thread the plug in and then tighten with ratchet. EASILY AND SLOWLY PULL BACK to get the socket to let the plug go.... now Disconnect the ratchet from extention.. the extention from the socket and magnet the socket out of the hole. DONE!
      It's really not that big of a deal if you just use some common sense, HAVE the PATIENCE to do the job and the right combination of simple hand tools. ,
      I HOPE THAT HELPS SOMEBODY. That was a lot to type out 😂
      He didn't film it because if you ACTUALLY TRY DOING THIS JOB you'll see it's impossible to get a camera in there while your trying to get your tools in and out of the hole... you can barely get your hand in there nevermind a freaking camera. If all of this is "too much" for you or if you're irritated or annoyed then it's probably best to bite the bullet and pay someone with the skills and patience to do it for you.
