    People want to throw shade on Isabella . But I stand by this queen. She was no ''She Wolf '' It was just that she got sick and tired of being a doormat. She fought back.

      She wolf is a compliment in my book. They could have just said “b*tch”. She wolf demands respect and shouldn’t be taken lightly. The only problem with her is she is Spanish and we inherited our historical perspective from England. They did the same sort of mischaracterizing to Napoleon.

      Are you kidding me? She betrayed her king, committed infidelity, and destroyed her reputation and family. The king was killed thanks to his “wife”. Only the glorious reign of Edward III could reinvigorate the crown like a phoenix from the ashes.

      Edward II had the misfortune, like Henry VI, to be the mediocre son of a hero king. Although he unwisely favored male courtiers, thee is no evidence that he had a physical relationship with his favorites. William II, Richard I, Edward II, Richard II, and James I all were the subject of homosexual rumors but there is no proof except for the fact these monarchs were susceptible to the influence of charismatic male associates. Whenever a monarch has favorites, factions develop. With his favoritism of his wife's relatives, Edward IV created the same kind of jealousy, resentment and distrust.

    The misogyny of the time painted her a “she-wolf” but if she was a man, she would have been revered and regarded as doing what came naturally.
    I think she was a strong women who did what she had to, to protect herself and her children, being a woman in a man’s world… initially. Absolute power corrupts absolutely, and once she was unchecked and in charge she did become tyrannical as her children no longer needed her protection, but once she was back as a player she once again made choices to help her family. I don’t think she’s as black and white as people make her out, I think she’s a complex character in shades of grey, like we all are. She’s wasn’t bad or good she was just doing what she needed, in a turbulent time, when the only thing more dangerous than being on a battlefield, was being a woman.

    During the reign of Edward II, the conflict between thebking and barons was obvious. And the king had his male favourites, Gaveston and Despenser. Thus the queen had an affair with Mortimer which led to the deposition of the king.
    Fortunately their son, Edward III restored everything back to 'normal'.

      @user-jw7zi3rj5n you are clearly unfamiliar with the definition of genocide. Isabella, along with her predecessors across centuries, were prosecuting the Reconquista. This meant sustained warfare against the invaders (turned occupants). The primary objective was to expel them from the peninsula. With respect to the Muslims, very little has changed. See Hamas, Taliban, ISIS, and Al Qaeda. Must have slipped your mind eh?

    • @ScipioAfricanus_Chris
      @ScipioAfricanus_Chris 2 місяці тому

      @user-jw7zi3rj5n you must not be acquainted with the word genocide. Which implies a deliberate and systematic destruction of a race or culture. Isabela, like her predecessors did for centuries, prosecuted the Reconquista against the violent invaders (turned occupiers). War creates casualties, but thankfully, Spain successfully expelled the Moors under her reign. Centuries of occupation slipped your mind eh?

      England felt little stmpathy and no respect for Edward II. Strange you tried to rewrite history in such a simplistic way. Makes sense they did not respect him as he was one of the most idiotic kings in world history and he made error after error.. There is a reason so many of his nobles were fed up with him and did not support him.

  • @mondegofilms-2352
    @mondegofilms-2352 Місяць тому

    i think a lot of these focus too much on the substance of the possible relationships, and while who knows really? but for instance with Gaviston, imagine you are the son of the king, you have been told that you will be king, ordained by god. Everyone in your life is either there to use you, or kill you. You can't trust your own family, as they my try to overthrow you. You find the one person you think has your back no matter what, the only person who can take some of that fear/tension away. What would you pay for that? toss in that he was basically a petulant teen boy, i mean how many people these days do horrible things for their friends, often after their parents say "stay away". And finally, we have the 20/20 hindsight of their place in history, but these were just people trying to live the best they could, often with a lot of disadvantages, cause there rarely seems to be the proper preparations to teach these sons how to take over, a lot of times due to the fear of the father of being usurped (especially when they themselves usurped).

He had affairs with women and fathered at least one bastard; it was evident that he and Isabella had a loving relationship before Hugh Despenser started meddling with it.
