She was amazing 🐺🐺🐺🐺🐺
@@danielsantiagourtado3430she was also a tyrant
I love 10th-14th century European history.. always have. Isabella of France certainly counts as one of the most important of the times.
If you love medieval European history, you will love the channel called "schwerpunkt" which is dedicated to making in depth academic history videos on every aspect of the subject.
Had she not let herself into that entanglement w Roger Mortimer I think her reputation would’ve been that of a saviour. Nevertheless, she was a strong woman, and one whose story is fascinating! Icl, she ranks higher in my “best to worst Queens Consort of England” list than she maybe should, but ultimately I feel sympathy for her situation and admire her strength
This is awesome. This is the first time I have heard of Isabella of France.
Ever? The She-Wolf?
If you haven't seen them yet, watch Dan's (not Dan Snow--the other Dan, who did the Templar videos, and also just wrote a book about the Crusades, in their order of time). Last name escapes me right now. But his series on the Wars of the Roses is excellent! Especially the ones on Isabella the She-wolf, Richard III, and Margaret Beaufort! But they are ALL great! I have watched the series a few times through!
Well LISTEN I'm Done with DEAD kings and queens ETC. I'm now about the Future
@@skontheroadDan Jones? Outstanding author and historian
@@LadyCat183 YES!! Thanks! I think I looked it up since as well. He's hot, lol! And has tatts from his elbow down (may be a sleeve, they don't show it all, lol!). You don't often find sexy British Midevil professors. Or atleast they didn't when I was in college!
Yet another well researched, well written and well produced video. Thoroughly enjoyed. Thank you.
She sure was a SURVIVOR! Thank You! ✨🦩⚜️💎
Well, I would become a she wolf too, if someone had taken my 3 youngest kids away as hostages!! The mama bear in me would have been even more brutal!
A very misunderstood woman but her son managed to bring glory to England and their family.
Her son is the idiot who started the disastrous Hundred Years war and his creation of duchies for this sons was the root of the War of the Roses. Historian Mark Ormrod perfectly summed his reign up: By 1377, the king's family had been depleted, his territories reduced, his diplomacy wrecked, and his own control of affairs nullified.
Wonderfully told story. I'm team Isabella.
The Accursed Kings by Maurice Druon covers the whole French family including the life and times of Isabella and her family. There was a tv series many years as well. Absolutely fascinating. They were so corrupt!
Edward II kinda prefered men skilled in the art of war and military tactics.
Do they get thrown out of windows often?
I've heard he was fond of swordsmen:-)))
No, he did not
I think Monty Python 's lampoon of him, was pretty correct. You might be thinking of his father or son
@@giselematthews7949”but father i don’t want that” 🤣🤣
Methinks the sentence should have stopped after the word men.
She's my 22nd great grandmother. Philip the Fair is my 23rd GGF. Ironic. I'm also descended from grandmasters of the Knights Templar.
Me too! I recently traced Edward III to be my 23rd grandfather, through his third son. Hey family! Lol
Thank you. I think Isabella would have been revered as a heroine if she had just bought Edward the prince back to England by herself. Perhaps one could understand the poor woman wanting some romance in her sad life but , with Mortimer, she made a bad mistake. Her son made an excellent king even with, unknowingly, causing the way for England to descend into civil war. Sometimes having too many sons is a problem. 🙏🙏👵🇦🇺
Superb as always! She had little choice but to adapt and fight for herself.
The anticipation waiting to see who the narrator is going to be is always exciting for some reason. On to the show ❤❤❤
It is!! And, personally, the one who narrates this one is my favourite, along with the Nixon video narrator
@@lfgifu296 me too!
Thanks for a riveting story
Great video keep it up you're doing amazing things 😁💯
really enjoyed this, I read a book as a child called the She Wolf of France, not the newer ones. I remember understanding her need to control her world when no one else would. Thanks for the balanced presentation.
Wasn't Margaret of Anjou called the she wolf by Shakespeare? It's a back handed compliment for a woman. She's not a pushover. She can hold her own with the mediaeval lords.
Both margaret and isabella were known by that name
Excellent, as always!
Great story of a very interesting Queen , the mother and grandmother of Englands finest King and his son and warrior Edward of Woodstock oh and no mention of a hot poker , nice one 👍
Given how Edward II humiliated his wife and his lack of awareness or care about his subjects opinions of his affairs, I think Isabella was within her right to do what she did to save her older son's throne.
OK, he did not humiliate his wife. Are you believing this? Why don’t you recap Warner‘s biography where she dispels every single myth
YES! The woman who overthrew Edward II and gave birth to England's greatest king Edward III🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Edward III? Greatest? Why?
Normans
That's not true. He was good, but not better than a few kings
Saxon's were more English
@alcoholicjoe6199 the Saxons were just as germanic as they were angles
Great stuff as always
Wowzers! The AB is a fan of this channel. 😁
The disunity in France with her nobles not under the full control of the French king would've served as the model for many English nobles in their relationship with their own king.
Very detailed account of this part of history.
There is a lot of historical ground to cover through the centuries.
This was pretty intense I may have to listen again.
Thank you!
30:02 I love how the particularly gruesome manner was taken out of the narration but it is still in the captions.
😮🤭
Worse than castration and gutting while alive? 😱 Horrifying.
What an extraordinary documentary! A pleasure to the eyes and years, and with a lot of information about those distant and so frequently troubled times. Thanks to The People Profiles for another great video.
39:31-39:53 Those were tough times, to put it mildly.
Finally, a round of applaude for Gareth Johnson, a superb narrator.
Thank you am French and had never heard. Of her until now❤
To gay man she’s a little polarizing because she’s sort of an anti-hero, I mean Edward did take the hot poker up the bum that they reserved for “us” back then…but I’ve always loved strong women and he likely broke her heart and made it hard so I’m happy to enjoy learning what I don’t know about history. Thanks again you amazing folks ! 👍👍
Edit: wow, imagine if your kids were given to the family of your husbands cuckold to care for. Can’t blame her one bit for her anger. Some of the great kings in history were Queens.
This video is amazing. Gave me a fresh perspective after Braveheart.
She was about 6 years old at the time of Braveheart. This video is fact, Braveheart was fiction based on some facts.
Merci!
I very much admire her as long as the story of Edward the second being put to death by red hot pokers stuck up his arse “so as to not leave any marks on the royal body” is not true. God, I hope not. Apparently his screams were heard throughout the entire castle.
Video suggestion: Emiliano Zapata, the Mexican revolutionary 🇲🇽
Viva Zapata! 😉
calm down pedro
Poncho villa
And other figures of the Mexican revolution.
Should be a great series of videos from People's profile
She was a pawn of her father who grew up to take what control she could over her own life, for her and her children's sake.
Of course, male commentators of the day would disparage an intelligent, strong, and determined woman. In particular, one that could have so much impact on society and the power of those male commentators.
She arrived as a child in England, and became a power broker as an adult that led to Mortimer's death and her own incarceration as her own son was then ready to take control of the crown.
I am a Patron!
Love the vids
Isnt this the same woman from the braveheart movie
Yes although she never did wallace that never happened as she was too young when the events in braveheart happened
UKR got screwed!
Should have kept weapons, with help maintaining them.
Please make a video on Lorenzo the magnificent ☺
Podcast version please!!!!!
What’s the difference between a podcast and a video please? I have asked before but no one has answered the question. I know I’m showing my ignorance but at least I’m truthful . Thank you 🙏👵🇦🇺
@@gonefishing167 a podcast is just audio 👌🏼
I want to be able to listen to them on the road driving
I listen in the car as well. Works o.k on you tube doesn’t it. Love them when travelling long distances but recharging is a problem sometimes. 🙏🙏👵🇦🇺
Oh, I see. Thank you so very much 🙏🙏👵🇦🇺
Good lady❤
Oh, ok. So, contemporary historians are immune from political prejudice. Gotcha
In my eyes she did what she had to too survive in an unfamiliar country and having to deal with an idiot of an husband from a young age. If she did not become tough and vigilant she might have been killed.
There was no such thing as Renaissance (ideas) yet in the 14th century, and certainly not at the start of it
Everyone who enjoyed this should read "The Accursed Kings" by Maurice Druon. It tells a fictional account of the french court during her life, and her hand in it.
Braveheart just took a huge dump on this amazing real character for the sake of Hollywood fluff. Thanks Mel.
I did find that part of Braveheart to be a disappointment as it was so no part of what took place at that time.
She like Eleanor of Aquitaine was instrumental in the vizier chess piece becoming the queen chess piece.
She was bad-assAF!
An energetic, protagonistic and not very faithful queen married to a politically weak king who had a male lover. All this in the very moralistic and religious Middle Ages. What in this story wouldn't make Machiavelli laugh and consider his conclusion that politics exists in a space where morality and religion must be ignored?
Go Isabella!s. Brava! Brava!
😮😮😮Can you say one of the most toxic, abusive and twisted families ever!!!?!!!😮😮😮 I never knew this period of absolute insanity of greed and survival...Please don't take offense...this just my immediate reaction...reaction...😅I will have to find out more.😊😊😊
They're ALL THE RULERS OF THE WORLD
A medieval boss babe
Omg it’s Anya Taylor Joy 🤩
It is not difficult for those in power to be kind and fair and to not be so selfish and self-centered and an unempathetic to the plight of those they abuse. Is there one one amongst any of them? Who isn't that way?
If this account had better merch designs id totally buy something
Her husband's bisexuality was a major cause of the political instability.
Did Isabella's 'daughter, Eleanor, become Eleanor of Aquitaine?
No Eleanor of Aquataine was the wife of Henry II making her Edward II's great great grandmother
No. Eleanor of Acquitaine was the eldest daughter of the Duke of Acquitaine, and Duchess in her own right after his death. She was first married to King Louis of France, had two daughters with him and then they were divorced. She then married Henry II of England. Two of her sons by him became kings of England - Richard I (aka the Lionhearted) and John I.
An excellent reason NOT to watch TV these days, outstanding work! 👍🏻👌🏻👏🏻
It does appear that the basic law of matrimony for the period would have been that the wife had only the right to tolerate and obey the husband, no matter what else what happening to or around her. Sounds like a lovely life, doesn't it!!!
❤❤❤❤❤❤amen
I’m still annoyed she’s known as a “she wolf”
Aquitaine and Brittania at that time were not France.
They were Vassals of the King of France anyway.
HAHAHA SO NOT FAIR BECAUSE HE WAS JUST
Edward II & his lovers the origins of the gay mafia 😂
She survived
Was Edward ll really bisexual or you hope so !!!!!!!
The evidence points in that direction.
No bodt knows

Can we stop believing myths that Edward was a terrible husband please!!!
Please do Johanna the Mad, her story is sad and interesting, and her progeny ruled so much of the world!
after watching this. I'm so bummed to be a decended from Mortimer
You should definitely do Charles VII of France.
