There is the Garibaldi Meucci museum on Staten Island. You may want to check tbat out if you're in NY. The museum has cultural stuff going often. Garibaldi stayed with the inventor and candle maker Antonio Meucci. It is interesting that he was there for a few years. I lived there as a kid and liked the historical revolutionary history stuff and went to something there(I'm not sure exactly as U was very young) on a school trip, and we made hand dipped candles which was cool. I thought that was interesting as being Italian background and knew more of him in my 20s reading more about him and the risorgimento. Fascinating life he had.

Sadly he was not, I used to idealize history but the actual reality is: he obtained the unification of Italy thanks to monarchs and with Cavour (Right Wing). Even though they declared ideals of revolution and progress. They actually planned and acted out a complete plan to impoverish the South, committing genocide and taking land from their rightful owners, destroying the economy of small farmers. Only for the industries of the north to pollute and exploit workers. That went on for the following leaders up to the 19th century. They were all Freemasons in lodges, organized for maintaining wealth among the rich. Italy was united, and that's admirable, but the monarchy just changed its face. There is no such thing as good power

Giuseppe Garibaldi was blonde/ginger. The Kingdom of Sardinia was in reality the Kingdom of Savoy and Piedmont (to call it Sardinia it would be like calling Britain as India!!! As Queen Victoria was Empress of India, Victor Emmanuel was King of Sardinia, but a Savoy-Piedmontese king: Sardinia was a sort of colony).

It is really irritating to see the way history documentaries across youtube use stock footage with no relation to the actual story beyond crude, literalist illustration, just to fill screen time. It's not that I don't understand their predicament. They've got to have something going on on the screen at all moments, whether or not any historical image exists, and they cannot afford to film everything themselves. Also, I understand that some viewers consider footage of the narrator him or herself just talking is considered to be somehow lame, although it would in fact be preferable to me. I guess the only solution is not to watch, but I often want to watch because sometimes the visuals do add something.

Well ..there is more to Garibaldi than just heroism ..like most legends the real person and deed is shrouded in mystery....he was definitely a mercenary working for the British for the kingdom of Sardinia the French etcetera... Kids at school in Italy we were told he was the hero of the two worlds "l'eroe dei due mondi"??? The kingdom of Sardinia was in fact the Piedmont royal family of Savoy...it wasn't a unification it was an aggression of a sovereign country...daylight robbery rape and misery for millions of innocent people that had to emigrate to escape poverty created by the conquerors.... Garibaldi? Just a pawn in their game....

and here we have the home where GG stayed with inventor Antonio Meucci. They made candles. The home is now a museum
and we can see GG's red uniform and other artifacts. He was an exiled man, going from place to place, war to war. I'm not sure
if he ever had real job in his life. He was completely politicized like some people we see today who cheer on Hamas.

Most of those countries he wanted to "disintegrate" (like Austria or the Ottoman Empire) were empires in the proper sense, relics of the Middle Ages in the modern world, and they kept exploiting and oppressing the locals. Most of the Balkans for example did not consider themselves Ottoman or Austrian and were just client states with little to no autonomous power, but plenty of obligations toward the central power.
"No taxation without representation" said the american revolutionaries. A country that doesn't recognize universal political, economical and social rights for each and every citizen of theirs, deserves to disintegrate.
